We read Croma's own laptop catalogue on 18 August 2026 - 66 models across its laptop and gaming-laptop listings - and the shape of the shelf is the story. Prices run Rs. 46,990 to Rs. 2,78,990 with a median of Rs. 1,08,990, and exactly one machine is under Rs. 50,000: an Acer Aspire 3 with a Ryzen 3, 8GB of RAM and the only 256GB SSD in the read. Nineteen models sit between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 80,000, 46 are above Rs. 80,000, and 35 of the 66 are gaming laptops. The discount badges split by brand rather than by value: all six Apple machines are at exactly 7 per cent off, while the Windows laptops have a median badge of 23.5 per cent and a maximum of 51 - that deepest one calculated from a stated MRP of Rs. 1,84,990 on a Core i5 thin-and-light. The specification steps are what actually matter at the bottom of this catalogue: 512GB storage from Rs. 50,990 and 16GB of RAM from Rs. 61,490. Only 7 of the 66 models carry any customer rating at all.

We ran the same five category pulls - washing machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and microwave ovens - on Croma, Reliance Digital and Vijay Sales on 17 August 2026, and matched the results on brand, capacity, star rating and load type. Croma returned 209 listings with a price and a higher stated MRP, Vijay Sales 135 and Reliance Digital 60. One machine could be matched by model code, LG's T80VBMB1Z 8 kg top-load: Rs. 23,190 at Croma against Rs. 20,490 at Reliance Digital, a Rs. 2,700 gap. Across eleven spec-matched Croma and Vijay Sales pairs, Vijay Sales was cheaper on ten by Rs. 1,009 to Rs. 6,500. The stated MRPs disagree more than the prices do - the same Samsung 8 kg machine carries a Rs. 31,990 MRP at two sites and Rs. 37,990 at the third. And only Croma publishes customer ratings, on 129 of its 209 listings.

We read Amazon India's own search listings on August 15, 2026 across four smartwatch and fitness-band queries and got 74 non-sponsored results carrying a price, a higher stated MRP, a star rating and a review count. Seventeen are seated here, every one at or under Rs. 1,999. The finding is that the badge and the rating run in opposite directions: the nine listings discounted 78 per cent or more average 3.86 stars, while the six discounted 60 per cent or less average 3.92 - and 4.04 with the single no-name label set aside. The four largest stated MRPs on the page, Rs. 11,999 to Rs. 21,000, all belong to watches selling between Rs. 999 and Rs. 1,399. Two listings at an identical Rs. 396 carry badges 27 points apart. Three watches sit at exactly Rs. 1,399 claiming MRPs of Rs. 18,999, Rs. 21,000 and Rs. 6,999, and the smallest claim has the best rating. Seventeen picks, Rs. 396 to Rs. 1,999.

We read Croma's own search listings on August 15, 2026 and got 157 results carrying a price and a higher MRP; 20 wireless earbuds and neckbands at or under Rs. 2,999 are seated here. The first thing to know is what the aisle cannot tell you: 19 of the 20 listings carry fewer than 61 ratings, the median count is six, four carry no rating at all, and one 5.0 average was produced by a single person. Only one row, at 445 ratings, has a count worth leaning on. The second is that the badge sorts by brand rather than by value - boAt shows 76 to 79 per cent off, OnePlus 10 to 12, Croma's own label 31 to 53, and an unfamiliar label 82, all on one shelf on one day. Two pairs at an identical Rs. 1,799 carry badges of 10 and 77 per cent. The axis that actually changes what you hear is in the listing titles: ENC cleans your voice for callers, ANC quiets the world for you, and the cheapest ANC here is Rs. 1,244 while the dearest pick at Rs. 2,999 has none.

boAt's homepage carried "Sound of Freedom Sale is Live" on 15 August 2026, and its own product feed returned 274 in-stock products selling below their stated MRP, from Rs. 129 to Rs. 34,999, with a median discount of 67 per cent and a range of 2 to 89. This page cuts that feed by aisle rather than repeating a headline: smartwatches deepest at a 74 per cent median from Rs. 1,399, true wireless earbuds 71 per cent from Rs. 799, soundbars 66 per cent from Rs. 999, Bluetooth speakers 63 per cent from Rs. 799, and wired Bassheads earphones shallowest at 50 per cent from Rs. 279. The ten deepest badges sit on stated MRPs three to four times the selling price - Rs. 13,990 on a Rs. 1,999 pair of earbuds, Rs. 2,999 on a Rs. 329 cable - while the shallowest sit on MRPs that look like real prices. One code is live on boAt's own announcement bar: BOATHEAD, for an extra 5 per cent off prepaid orders. boAt publishes no end date and no customer rating in its feed.

Croma's homepage this week leads with a students-and-educators exclusive — up to 10% extra off Windows laptops from HP, Lenovo and Samsung — landing precisely in admission season, when India actually buys laptops. We read Croma's own product API on July 25, 2026 and pulled 123 discounted machines; the 21 that survived our spec-per-rupee filter run from an Acer Aspire 3 at Rs. 43,990 to tournament-grade ROG hardware, with the floor's single deepest cut (60% off an i5 IdeaPad, landing at Rs. 73,990) sitting squarely in the student band where the extra 10% stacks hardest. Four chapters organised by buyer, not brand: the student rack, the thin-light-and-AI-ready tier (including two Snapdragon X battery outliers), the gaming wall from entry Victus to OMEN and ROG, and the convertible-plus-Apple shelf — where a 7% MacBook cut gets explained for what it honestly is.

Reliance Digital's homepage this week belongs to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra pre-book banners — but the floor underneath is where July's real numbers live. We read the site's own product cards on July 25, 2026 (each prints price, discount and strike-through MRP in one place) and pulled 21 deals that reconcile: boAt Airdopes at 85% off, POCO's 40 dB ANC buds at Rs. 799, a TCL 55-inch QLED at Rs. 40,990, Lenovo's Legion Tab at a bizarre 62% cut, and an appliance floor — Samsung WindFree AC, LG washer, Aquaguard RO — priced for the July demand lull that smart appliance buyers wait for. Four chapters: the audio wall, screens and computing, the appliance floor, and pocket-and-power. Challenger-brand picks (Perrel, EVM, Urbn) appear only where the price gap justifies the service bet, and every card names that trade.

We read 102 Amazon India smart home listings on August 12, 2026 across four searches - security camera, smart plug, smart door lock and smart LED bulb - and seated 23. The discount badge in this aisle shrinks as the object gets serious: a median 72 per cent off across 27 smart LED bulbs, 68 per cent across 30 smart plugs, 50 per cent across 15 security cameras and 48 per cent across 30 smart door locks. Nine of the 102 listings state an MRP exactly one hundred times their selling price - Rs. 799 against Rs. 79,900, Rs. 1,504 against Rs. 1,50,400 - which is a decimal error rather than a discount, and none of them is seated here. The camera shelf is the worst-rated in the aisle at a median 3.7 against 4.2 for plugs and 4.3 for locks. A hundred of the 102 rows carry a rating, with samples running from four votes to 52,307. Twenty-three picks, Rs. 79 to Rs. 13,499.

We read 157 Croma smartphone listings on August 12, 2026 from the retailer's own catalogue across six queries, and seated 23. The discount on this shelf is a brand policy rather than an offer: the median badge is 33 per cent across 38 vivo listings, 40 across 4 Redmis, 17 across 31 oppos, 16 across 9 OnePlus, 11 across 31 Samsungs, 6 across 3 Pixels and 4 across 35 Apples. Thirty of Apple's 35 listings sit between 2 and 6 per cent off, and the same Rs. 2,910 reduction appears on phones priced Rs. 24,000 apart. One oppo listing states an MRP of exactly Rs. 1,00,000 against a Rs. 35,999 price, producing the read's only badge above 55 per cent - a round number no Reno has retailed at. Only 31 of the 157 rows carry any rating at all, and the single largest sample is 2,447 votes on a three-generation-old iPhone, which is the only pick here with a rating pill. Twenty-three picks, Rs. 7,999 to Rs. 2,24,990.

We read 84 Croma water purifier and geyser listings on August 12, 2026 from the retailer's own catalogue across two queries, and seated 20. Priced per litre of stored water, the 42 geysers run from Rs. 206 to Rs. 1,575 a litre against a median of Rs. 625 - a 7.6x range for the same commodity - and every one of the ten cheapest litres sits in a 25-litre tank. The cheapest listing on the shelf, a Rs. 2,999 three-litre instant heater, is among the dearest water on it at Rs. 1,000 a litre, while the dearest geyser at Rs. 15,100 holds twenty-five litres at Rs. 604. Within one brand's range, the fifth BEE star costs Rs. 1,700 at identical capacity. The 16 non-RO purifiers carry a median price of Rs. 10,545 against Rs. 18,925 for the 26 RO ones, so the UV-versus-RO decision is worth about Rs. 8,000. Only 34 of the 84 rows carry a rating and the largest sample is 17 votes, so no pick here gets a rating pill. Twenty picks, Rs. 2,999 to Rs. 18,360.

We read 36 Reliance Digital ceiling fan, air cooler and water heater listings on August 12, 2026 from the retailer's own catalogue, and seated 20. This is a shelf of seasonal machines being cleared at the end of their season and the badge shows it: the median discount across all 36 rows is 47.5 per cent, roughly double what the same retailer's kitchen and television shelves carry, with air coolers running to 61 per cent in the last weeks anyone will use one this year. Priced per litre of tank, the coolers run from Rs. 97 to Rs. 314 - a 3.2x range - and every one of the cheapest litres sits in a large desert cooler while the dearest sits in a slim tower. On the fan side the gap that matters is not price but power: a one-star induction fan draws roughly 75 watts against 28 on the single BLDC model here, which at twelve hours a day is about Rs. 1,400 a year and repays the BLDC premium in six months. Not one of the 36 rows carries a customer rating. Twenty picks, Rs. 449 to Rs. 8,288.

We read 68 Vijay Sales headphone, speaker and soundbar listings on August 12, 2026 from the retailer's own category pages, and seated 20. The badge here is set by the brand rather than the product: the median discount is 66 per cent across 12 boAt listings, 62 across 15 Zebronics and 62 across 2 Noise, against 30 across 16 Sony listings, 26 across 13 JBL and 20 on the single CMF one. The shelf median is 38.5 per cent and the range runs from 4 to 80. Along the way we found the same Sony WH-CH720N listed twice by this one retailer at Rs. 9,299 and Rs. 9,499, both from a stated MRP of Rs. 14,990, with nothing in either listing explaining the Rs. 200 - so we have seated both. Not one of the 68 rows carries a customer rating, which in audio removes exactly the evidence that would separate two similar pairs. Twenty picks, Rs. 999 to Rs. 22,990.

We read boAt's own Shopify product feed on August 12, 2026 - 972 products, of which 220 sit in its Home Audio and Speakers categories and 40 are in-stock soundbars carrying a stated MRP above the selling price - and seated 23. Priced by the watt, this one brand's range spans a 27x spread: a watt of stated RMS output costs Rs. 22 in the 450W and 500W multi-channel systems and Rs. 600 in a 10W portable bar. Two listings sit at exactly Rs. 5,999, one of them a 10W portable and the other a 160W 2.1 system with a wireless subwoofer. A 200W bar costs Rs. 50 less than a 120W one from the same brand on the same day. The discount badge carries no information at all: across the listings we seated it runs 14 to 78 per cent with a median of 65, and nearly every one states an MRP three to four times its selling price. boAt's feed publishes no customer rating on any product. Twenty-three picks, Rs. 999 to Rs. 34,999.

We read 61 Amazon ceiling fan, pedestal fan, table fan and air cooler listings on August 10, 2026 from the retailer's own search results and seated 22. This is one of the few shelves where a very large crowd has voted, and the verdict is that the cheap machines work. Six listings carry more than 5,000 ratings each - an Amazon Basics pedestal fan with 41,637, an Orient 1200mm ceiling fan with 34,942, a Havells ceiling fan with 21,921 and a Bajaj cooler with 18,145 among them - and they score between 3.5 and 4.1 at prices from Rs. 1,199 to Rs. 5,500. The most expensive ceiling fan in the read costs Rs. 9,099 and carries 135 ratings at 3.7. The two lowest-rated listings on the page, both at 1.5, are a Rs. 10,499 bladeless tower fan and a Rs. 599 device sold as a mini AC. Three coolers priced within sixteen rupees of each other are badged 27, 44 and 50 per cent. Twenty-two picks, Rs. 549 to Rs. 11,491.

We read 40 Croma camera listings on August 11, 2026 from the retailer's own listing data and seated 19. One counter, three separate economies. The interchangeable-lens bodies above Rs. 30,000 discount between 1 and 19 per cent - a Sony Alpha 6700L at Rs. 145,490 is marked down exactly Rs. 2,000, the narrowest badge in our whole read - because current-generation body pricing is set upstream rather than by the retailer. The action cameras run from 14 to 51 per cent entirely according to model year, with last year's DJI flagship at half price and this year's GoPro holding a quarter off. And eighteen of the forty rows are a single Fujifilm Instax family sitting inside a nine-point band between 18 and 27 per cent, because one company owns both the camera and the film. Only twelve of the forty rows carry any rating at all. Nineteen picks, Rs. 1,824 to Rs. 174,074.
