We pulled Plum Goodness' own product feed on 6 September 2026 - 390 in-stock listings, 267 of them discounted. The finding is that the discount tells you nothing: every in-stock face-care listing in this read is at exactly 15 per cent off, from a Rs. 217 toner to a Rs. 1,339 serum. With the percentage constant, the only comparison left is cost per millilitre, and that is where the shelf gets interesting. Four ThinkDerma serums with four completely different actives - niacinamide, salicylic acid, alpha arbutin and hyaluronic acid - are all priced at the identical Rs. 509 for 30 ml. The Bright Years line costs Rs. 44.63 per ml against ThinkDerma's Rs. 16.97. And the size ladders are unadvertised: the 50 ml niacinamide serum is 27 per cent cheaper per millilitre than the 15 ml bottle of the same formula, at the same 15 per cent badge. Twenty-one products seated, Rs. 217 to Rs. 1,339.

Plum Goodness prices in three tiers: singles at 15 per cent off MRP, face-care combos at 19 per cent, BodyLovin' body-care combos at 23. The combo always wears the bigger badge — but both figures are measured against MRP, and the single you would otherwise buy is already 15 per cent off. We read Plum's own feed on 6 September 2026 and priced every combo we could match against the sum of its own singles. Fourteen Pack of 2 listings all returned a real saving of 4.7 or 4.8 per cent. BodyLovin' combos returned about 9.4 per cent. And the badge itself is noise: listings showing 9, 12 and 19 per cent off all saved the same 4.7 to 4.8 per cent. Named routine duos measured 4.8 per cent too.

Plum's face-care shelf is a flat 15 per cent off on everything in stock. Its BodyLovin' body-care shelf is not. We read Plum's own feed on 6 September 2026 and found body lotions in a separate 20 per cent tier, the solid perfume sticks at 35 per cent — the deepest standing discount on any single product — and one eau de parfum at no discount at all, listed at its stated MRP. Per millilitre the shelf spans 34-fold, and the ends invert what the sticker price implies: a 400 ml body lotion is the cheapest thing here at Rs. 0.99 per ml, a 10 g lip balm is the dearest at Rs. 33.90 per gram, and the Rs. 1,019 eau de parfum — the highest price on the page — is the cheapest perfume per millilitre at Rs. 20.38. Twenty-one products seated.

We pulled Dot & Key's own product feed on 6 September 2026 and read all 151 in-stock listings. Not one of them is discounted. No struck-through price, no percentage badge, nothing — every product is sold at its list price, which is the exact opposite of the flat 15 per cent we found on Plum's shelf the same morning. With no discount to compare, what a rupee buys is the only variable, and the sunscreen shelf makes that vivid: Rs. 595 buys either a 20 g sunscreen stick at Rs. 29.75 per gram or a 110 ml body spray at Rs. 5.41 per ml — the same price for five and a half times as much product, at the same stated SPF 50+ PA++++. Elsewhere the serums cluster within two paise of Rs. 19.96 per ml, two moisturisers share one Rs. 399 price with 20 g between them, and face wash is the cheapest thing here at Rs. 2.49 per ml. Twenty-three products seated.

Plum takes a flat 15 per cent off everything. Minimalist takes 10. Dot & Key discounts nothing at all — 151 listings, not one badge — and mCaffeine discounts nothing on 174 of 193. Four brands, four policies, badges spanning zero to fifty-five per cent. We read all four feeds on 6 September 2026 and priced the same products across them. SPF 50 sunscreen costs Rs. 7.20 to Rs. 8.90 per unit; a 10 per cent niacinamide serum Rs. 18.00 to Rs. 19.97 per ml; a 100 ml face wash Rs. 2.42 to Rs. 2.70. The ordering barely tracks the badges: Minimalist at 10 per cent off beats Plum at 15 on both sunscreen and serum, and on face wash the undiscounted Dot & Key undercuts Minimalist outright. Compare per millilitre, not per badge.

Forty-seven shampoo, face serum and sunscreen listings read from nykaa.com's own search results on 2 September 2026, with every price, MRP, discount, rating and rating count as Nykaa displays them. The aisle decides the discount: shampoo runs a 20 per cent median and holds the four deepest badges on the page — TRESemmé and Himalaya at 40 per cent, Dove and L'Oreal Paris at 35 — while face serums and sunscreens sit at a 10 and 11 per cent median and the biggest Indian skincare labels hold at 5. Sunscreen is a Rs. 330 to Rs. 500 category, with four Dot & Key bottles at exactly Rs. 387; serums span Rs. 195 to Rs. 3,591. And the ratings cannot separate any of it: the eight most-rated listings carry 1,32,000 to 5,40,000 ratings each and every one scores 4.3 or 4.4.

Tata CLiQ's perfume shelf held 28 fragrances on 1 September 2026, from Rs. 413 to Rs. 10,320, and it is not priced bottle by bottle. Twenty-five of the 28 land on exactly five discount rates — 10, 15, 20, 23 or 25 per cent — and which rate applies tracks the brand rather than the price, the size or the category. Every Ajmal core listing is 23 per cent off; every Jaguar Classic is 25; every Calvin Klein, Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger is pinned at 10. The four Jaguar Classic variants all sell at exactly Rs. 3,675 off an identical Rs. 4,900 MRP, and four listings from three different houses — Rasasi, Lattafa twice and Jaguar Pace — all sell at exactly Rs. 4,675 off Rs. 5,500. The deepest routine tier, 20 per cent, holds the dearest bottles on the shelf, so prestige and discount run backwards here.

Myntra's makeup, skin-care and lipstick listing pages, read on 31 August 2026, returned 95 products priced from Rs. 71 for ANI'S rose water to Rs. 1,080 for a Dr.Aqsa gold facial kit, median Rs. 259. The shelf is really two shelves. Twenty-eight of the 95 are three- and four-piece lipstick multipacks from PERPAA and ForSure, all Rs. 243-271 against stated MRPs of Rs. 747-796, carrying 64-69 per cent badges — and 16 of them carry no rating at all, with 262 the largest rating count in the block. The other 67 listings run a 28 per cent median badge and hold the evidence: Maybelline's compact at 4.4 from 183,239 ratings, Plum's toner at 164,214, deconstruct's sunscreen at 100,894 and a 5 per cent badge. The exception is Blue Heaven's Rs. 399 kit: 75 per cent with 24,760 ratings behind it.

Beardo's own product feed, read on 31 August 2026, carried 84 hair listings priced from Rs. 199 to Rs. 1,499, median Rs. 399. Thirty-two of them ask one of two prices — 18 at Rs. 299 and 14 at Rs. 399 — regardless of whether the product is a shampoo, a wax, a hair colour or a scalp massager. The discounts sit on the bundles: singles run an 11 per cent median with twelve listings at no discount at all, while kits and multipacks run 27 per cent and reach 63. The pack maths is inconsistent. Anti Grey Hair Serum costs Rs. 699 single, Rs. 1,099 for two and Rs. 999 for three, so the three-pack is cheaper than the two-pack; Beer Shampoo's two-pack at Rs. 700 costs Rs. 102 more than two singles. Twenty-four of the 84 listings were out of stock.

We pulled 64 face wash, moisturiser, serum and sunscreen listings from Nykaa's own data on 30 August 2026. The shelf runs Rs. 99 to Rs. 3,780 with a median of Rs. 492, and the median discount is only 12 per cent — 31 of the 64 sit at 10 per cent or below, and nothing reaches 60. The small badges are the honest ones: Minimalist holds a flat 5 per cent across all six of its listings, La Roche-Posay 5 per cent, CeraVe and Re'equil a flat 10, because these brands sell at one national price. The deepest badges belong to old mass-market names — Cetaphil 56 per cent, Ponds 40, Neutrogena 37. And the evidence is unusually strong: 63 of 64 listings are rated, ten of them with more than 140,000 ratings apiece.

We read Minimalist's entire own-store catalogue on 30 August 2026 — 60 listings from Rs. 149 to Rs. 1,614, median Rs. 450. Forty-eight of them carry a discount of exactly 10 per cent: the identical figure across skin care, hair care, bath and body and baby care. That is a standing price, not a sale, so there is nothing to wait for. The only way to beat it is a multi-product kit, and all seven 15 per cent listings are kits priced Rs. 1,019 and up. Four listings carry no discount at all and none of them is skincare — a tote bag, a travel pouch and two gift sizes. Exactly one product in the range is genuinely marked down: a Maleic Bond Repair hair mask at Rs. 399 against Rs. 699. The MRPs are small and precise, which is why the badges are too.

Nykaa's homepage carried a Beauty Bonanza banner on 29 August 2026, with offer tiles topping out at "Up To 50% Off". We pulled 50 live listings the same morning across serum, lipstick and shampoo and read each one's own MRP and price. The median discount is 14 per cent, the range runs 3 to 45 per cent, and exactly one listing in fifty reaches 45. The deep cuts cluster in legacy mass-market brands — Maybelline 45%, TRESemme and L'Oreal Paris 40%, Dove 35% — while D2C names hold firm, with Minimalist at exactly 5 per cent across all three of its listings and Bare Anatomy at 3. The separately-searched Hot Pink Sale is not running: its price-reveal machinery is dormant in the page config, with the master flag off and share copy still pointing at a 5 May start.

We read Dot & Key's full published catalogue on 29 August 2026: 149 in-stock products across 205 variants. Every one of those 205 variants carries a compare-at price that is present and exactly equal to its selling price, so nothing on the store is discounted — and that is a published equality rather than a missing field. Yet 54 of the 149 products are combos. We matched seven multipacks to their own singles at the same size and every one costs the sum of its parts to the rupee: the Rs. 249 face wash is Rs. 498 for two, the Rs. 375 bottle is Rs. 750 for two. The only genuine saving on the store is the size ladder — 175ml at Rs. 2.14 a millilitre against 100ml at Rs. 2.49, about 14 per cent. The Rs. 99 minis are the dearest skincare here at Rs. 6.60 a millilitre.

Mamaearth's own product feed carried 569 in-stock items on 28 August 2026, priced from Rs. 75 to Rs. 2,197 with a median of Rs. 549 across 116 distinct price points. Not one of those 569 records carries a struck-through compare-at price, so there are no badges and no percentages on this storefront - the listed price is the price. That moves the decision to size, and the size ladder is steep. Thirteen products are sold as both a mini and a full bottle, and in ten of them the mini costs more per millilitre, at a median of 1.74 times the rate: the 20 ml onion conditioner is Rs. 4.95/ml against Rs. 1.40 for the 400 ml bottle. Three listings that appear to break the pattern turn out to be multi-packs, and 111 of the 569 records are combos that cannot be priced per millilitre at all.
