Flipkart's Returns Policy gives a sari, a pair of jeans and a suitcase "Refund, Replacement or Exchange" within 10 days. It gives a laptop, a pair of earbuds and a smartwatch neither a refund nor an exchange — only a replacement, and often not even one Flipkart handles itself. Which of the two electronics rows you land in is decided by a list of brand names. We read the policy on 11 October 2026, counted the lists, and checked them against 130 earbud listings actually on sale that morning: not one of the 130 carries a refund right. Below: the full category table, the 37 brands, and the five pick-up checks that sink returns at the door. Published text only; not legal advice.

"Please note that Flipkart is an online marketplace and the final decision on replacement of defective device rests with the seller/brand"
📅 Update log:
11 October 2026 — First publication. Flipkart's Returns Policy read in full from flipkart.com/pages/returnpolicy: the opening scheme statement and the clause that the product page's policy prevails; Part 1 and its complete category table covering furniture, Home and its exclusions, the Lifestyle apparel, accessories and winterwear rows, medicine, home improvement tools and furnishing, books, sports and fitness equipment, auto accessories, toys, stationery, musical instruments and the non-returnable wind instruments clause, the two electronics rows with the 10-brand phone list and the 37-brand electronics list, the 47-brand large appliance row, the chimney, water purifier, fan and geyser row, the grocery rows, and the No Questions Asked section with its one-time replacement limit and its three stated exceptions; Part 2 and all five pick-up conditions — Correct Product, Complete Product, Unused Product, Undamaged Product and Undamaged Packaging — including the formatting and screen-lock requirement and the field executive refusal sentence; and Part 3 covering the replacement-to-refund fallback, the accessory eGV clause, the open box delivery refund and its post-acceptance bar, the installation clause, the furniture service-personnel clause and Flipkart's right to restrict returns per order unit; plus the separate Hyperlocal returns table. Brand counts made mechanically over the page text: 10 phone brands, 37 electronics brands, 47 large-appliance brands. Phrase counts: "product page shall prevail" four times, "only one replacement" three times. The brand lists were then checked against 130 earbud and headphone listings pulled from Flipkart search the same morning: 19 listings across 6 listed brands, 111 listings across 25 unlisted brands. flipkart.com/pages/payments and flipkart.com/pages/shipping read the same morning for context. Policy verified 11 October 2026.
The short answer: a sari gets a refund, a laptop does not
Flipkart's Returns Policy opens by telling you it is not one policy. "Returns is a scheme provided by respective sellers directly under this policy." It then divides into three parts, and Part 1 is a table of categories against "Returns Window, Actions Possible and Conditions".
Read down the Actions column and the pattern is immediate. Furniture and most of Home: "Refund or Replacement". Lifestyle — watches, t-shirts, footwear, saris, dresses, jeans, bags, luggage, winterwear: "Refund, Replacement or Exchange". Books, sports equipment, toys and stationery: "Replacement only". Grocery staples: "Refund only".
Now find electronics. There are two rows for it, and neither contains the word refund. One says "7 days Replacement only". The other says "7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only". Which of the two you land in is not decided by what went wrong, how much you spent, or how long you waited. It is decided by whose name is on the box.
The 37-brand list, and the thing it does backwards
The second electronics row names its brands. For phones it lists ten: Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme, Samsung. For everything else it lists thirty-seven, and we counted them off the page: Acer, AMKETTE, Apple/Beats, Bose, Brother, Canon, Compaq, CREATIVE, DELL, DIZO, Epson, Google, GoPro, GOVO, HP, INFINITY, JBL, Lenovo, LG, Lifelong, Mi, MOTOROLA, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Panasonic, PHILIPS, Realme, REDMI, SAMSUNG, Sansui, Seagate, Sonos, SONY, Thomson, Total, Xiaomi — explicitly covering "Tablets, Laptops, Smart Watches, Headphones, Speakers". A third list of 47 large-appliance brands runs the same way.
Here is the part worth slowing down for. If your product is from one of those named brands, the policy gives you "7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only" and adds: "Brand assistance for device related issues is subject to brand warranty guidelines and service policies. Please reach out to the nearest brand authorized service centre." It then says the quiet part outright: "Please note that Flipkart is an online marketplace and the final decision on replacement of defective device rests with the seller/brand."
If your product is not from a named brand, you get the other row — "7 days Replacement only", handled by Flipkart, with a troubleshooting step and a replacement "of the same model ... at no additional cost".
Buying a better-known brand therefore moves you further from Flipkart, not closer to it. A no-name earbud gets a Flipkart replacement. A Sony earbud gets an address for a service centre. That is not a trick — it reflects how brand warranty networks actually work, and a Sony service centre is a real asset a no-name brand cannot offer. But it is the opposite of what most shoppers assume they are paying the brand premium for.
We counted the shelf: 130 of 130 earbud listings, no refund either way
A brand list only matters in proportion to what is actually on sale. So the same morning we pulled 130 earbud and headphone listings from Flipkart's own search and checked each brand against the policy's 37.
19 listings, across 6 brands, are on the list — realme, OnePlus, MOTOROLA, PHILIPS, OPPO and SONY. Those are the service-centre row.
111 listings, across 25 brands, are not — boAt, Noise, Mivi, GOBOULT, TRIGGR, Fire-Boltt, Hammer, PTron, truke, ZEBRONICS, Aroma and fifteen others. Those are the Flipkart-replacement row.
The totals are the point: 130 out of 130 listings sit in a replacement-only bucket. Not one earbud on that shelf carries a refund right under the general policy. The split only decides who handles the replacement. If you want your money back rather than another pair, the general returns table does not offer it for this category at all — which is worth knowing before you buy, not after the pair arrives. The same shelf, priced and ranked, is in our Flipkart earphone coupon guide.

Part 2 is where returns actually fail
Having a return right and keeping it are different things. Part 2 lists what the pick-up executive checks, and ends: "The field executive will refuse to accept the return if any of the above conditions are not met."
Correct Product: "IMEI/ name/ image/ brand/ serial number/ article number/ bar code should match and MRP tag should be undetached and clearly visible." On clothing, that MRP tag is the one most people cut off in the first five minutes.
Complete Product: "All in-the-box accessories (like remote control, starter kits, instruction manuals, chargers, headphones, etc.), freebies and combos (if any) should be present." Freebies included — the free item has to go back too.
Unused Product: "unused, unwashed, unsoiled, without any stains and with non-tampered quality check seals/return tags/warranty seals". And a step people forget: "Before returning a Mobile/ Laptop/ Tablet, the device should be formatted and Screen Lock (Pin, Pattern or Fingerprint) must be disabled. iCloud lock must be disabled for Apple devices."
Undamaged Packaging: "The product's original packaging/ box should be undamaged." Not just the product — the box.
One more clause sits in Part 3 and catches people at the door: "Once you have accepted an open box delivery, no return request will be processed, except for manufacturing defects." The flip side is genuinely good: during an open-box delivery, if the item is wrong or damaged you get "a refund (on the spot refunds for cash-on-delivery orders)" — which is the fastest refund route anywhere in the document, and it only exists at the doorstep. If you paid cash on delivery, our guide to Flipkart's mobile exchange offers covers how that interacts with swaps.
What to actually do
Read the listing, not this table. The policy says four separate times that "the returns/replacement policy provided on the product page shall prevail over the general returns policy". That cuts both ways, and on a lot of listings it is more generous than the general table. The product page is the document that binds; this one is the default.
If a refund matters to you, the category decides it, so choose with that in mind. Apparel, footwear, bags and furniture carry refund rights. Electronics, books, toys and sports equipment do not. If you are unsure whether a gadget will suit you, the general policy will not undo the purchase.
Keep the box and the tag until you are sure. The MRP tag undetached, the original packaging undamaged, every in-box accessory and freebie present — those are the three conditions a pick-up most often fails on, and they are all decided in the first hour after delivery.
Take the open box delivery seriously. It is the one point in the process where a wrong or damaged item gets you money back on the spot, and accepting it closes the door on everything except manufacturing defects.
Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here says Flipkart has refused any return or breached any law. This describes a published policy as it stood on 11 October 2026; the policy shown on flipkart.com prevails over anything written here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a refund on earbuds or a laptop bought from Flipkart?
Not under the general Returns Policy. Electronics appear in two rows of its Part 1 table and neither offers a refund. Items from brands not on Flipkart's named list get "7 days Replacement only"; items from the 37-brand electronics list — which explicitly covers "Tablets, Laptops, Smart Watches, Headphones, Speakers" — get "7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only". We checked 130 earbud and headphone listings on Flipkart on 11 October 2026: 19 fall in the service-centre row and 111 in the replacement-only row, so 130 of 130 carry no general refund right. The one exception route is the listing itself — the policy states four times that the product page's own policy prevails, so check it before buying.
Why does Flipkart send me to a service centre instead of replacing my phone?
Because of which brand you bought. The policy names ten phone brands — Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme, Samsung — and 37 electronics brands, and routes all of them to "7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only", adding that "Flipkart is an online marketplace and the final decision on replacement of defective device rests with the seller/brand". Phones from brands not on that list get a Flipkart-handled "7 days Replacement only" instead. The better-known the brand, the further the policy routes you from Flipkart — which also means you get the brand's own authorised service network, something a no-name brand cannot offer.
What is Flipkart's return window?
There is no single window; it is set per category. 10 days for furniture, most of Home, and all Lifestyle apparel, footwear, bags, luggage and winterwear. 7 days for home improvement tools, groceries other than perishables, books, sports and fitness equipment, toys, stationery, musical instruments, mobiles and electronics. 2 days for medicine and for dairy, bakery, fruit and vegetables. A separate hyperlocal table runs shorter still — 1 Day Return on fresh fruit, vegetables, milk and non-prescription medicines. Some products are non-returnable outright, including all wind instruments, which the policy attributes to "hygiene and personal wellness".
Why was my Flipkart return rejected at pick-up?
Part 2 of the policy lists five checks and ends "The field executive will refuse to accept the return if any of the above conditions are not met." The three that catch people are: the "MRP tag should be undetached and clearly visible" along with a matching IMEI, serial or barcode; "All in-the-box accessories ... freebies and combos (if any) should be present", the freebie included; and "The product's original packaging/ box should be undamaged." For a phone, laptop or tablet there is a fourth: the device "should be formatted and Screen Lock (Pin, Pattern or Fingerprint) must be disabled. iCloud lock must be disabled for Apple devices." All four are decided in the first hour after delivery.
Can I return something more than once on Flipkart?
The policy says no, and says it three separate times: "In any case, only one replacement shall be provided." It also reserves a broader discretion — "Flipkart holds the right to restrict the number of returns created per order unit, post the evaluation of the product/order defect is undertaken by Flipkart's authorized representative." Under the No Questions Asked policy the same limit applies: "a customer may only be able to seek a one-time replacement under this Policy". Where a seller cannot replace at all, the policy does fall back to money: "In certain cases where the seller is unable to process a replacement for any reason whatsoever, a refund will be given."

The counts of brands and of repeated phrases were made mechanically over the text of the page as served to us, and the comparison against 130 earbud and headphone listings reflects the brand names shown on Flipkart's own search results at the time of reading and nothing more. This page describes a published returns policy. It does not assess, and expresses no view on, whether that policy or any clause in it is valid, binding, fair, reasonable or enforceable, nor whether it or any seller's conduct complies with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, the Sale of Goods Act, 1930 or any guideline made under any of them — all of which are matters for a court, a consumer forum or a regulator, and not for a shopping page. Nothing on this page is legal, consumer-law or regulatory advice or a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. The observation that the policy's electronics rows offer replacement rather than refund, and that named-brand items are routed to a brand service centre, describes the published text only. It is not a statement that Flipkart Internet Private Limited, any seller on its marketplace, or any brand named in the policy has refused a return, denied a refund, delayed a replacement, provided deficient service, engaged in any unfair trade practice, used any unfair contract term or dark pattern, or failed any statutory or contractual obligation; no such allegation is made or implied against Flipkart, any of its group companies, officers or employees, or against Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme, Samsung, Acer, AMKETTE, Beats, Bose, Brother, Canon, Compaq, CREATIVE, DELL, DIZO, Epson, GoPro, GOVO, HP, INFINITY, JBL, Lenovo, LG, Lifelong, MOTOROLA, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Panasonic, PHILIPS, Sansui, Seagate, Sonos, SONY, Thomson, Xiaomi, boAt, Noise, Mivi, GOBOULT, TRIGGR, Fire-Boltt, Hammer, PTron, truke, ZEBRONICS or any other brand referred to here only as a name appearing in a published list or on a search results page. Routing warranty service for branded electronics through the brand's own authorised service network is an ordinary, lawful and extremely widespread arrangement across Indian retail, online and offline, and it gives the buyer access to a manufacturer service network that an unbranded product does not have. Describing a category as carrying no refund right under the general policy is a description of that document; it is not a statement that no refund is ever available, that statutory rights do not apply, or that a particular listing offers no more than the general table — the policy itself states four times that the returns and replacement policy on the product page prevails over the general one, and many listings are more generous than the default. Statutory consumer rights apply to a sale irrespective of how a returns policy is drafted.
