Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University, previously known as Kota Open university was established in the year 1987. The university offers various UG, PG, diploma, certificate, and PhD courses in various disciplines. It also offers some of the courses in lateral entry as well under the different schools.

VMOU is the third oldest open university in India with an aim to improve and update the quality of study and research.

Following is the list of various schools which offer the different programs under the university.

VMOU: Courses Offered

The university provides 76 courses in total including the specializations. Following is the list of some of the courses offered:

Along with the regular courses, the university also provides various other Lateral entry courses such as MSW, MSC, Mcom, MA, Bcom, BJ, BA.

VMOU: Admissions

Admissions at Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University are either entrance-based or merit-based.

Admissions for Bachelor's degree programs except B.ed are done based on merit.VMOU conducts a separate entrance exam for B.ed.

Admissions to all the PG programs except MBA are based on the merit of the candidates in previous academic examinations. The selection for MBA candidates is based on the Management entrance test conducted by VMOU or the scores obtained in CAT/MAT/CMAT.

Admissions to the PhD program are done based on the UGC / CSIR NET (JRF) examination / SET / GATE (with a valid score) / followed by an interview.

How to apply?

The application process is conducted in online mode at VMOU. Admissions are held twice a year viz January and July.

  • Visit the official website of MOU and click on Admissions to apply.
  • Register yourself by filling in the basic details.
  • Then complete the application form by filling in the academic details, personal details, guardian details, etc.
  • Upload the necessary documents in the required format.
  • Then submit the form by paying the application fees of 1000 using online modes of payment available.

VMOU: Placements

The university has its own placement cell which aims to grow the relationship between the students and industry. The university also makes sure that they can help most of the students getting placed into various companies by helping them in every possible way.it also conducts mock tests and practise sessions to enrich aptitude, logic, and reasoning to help students for their interviews.

Following are some of the activities that are conducted by training and placement cell:

  • Career counselling: organizes guiding lectures by senior executives, consultants, etc.
  • Training and placement: Arranges training and placements of different top companies.
  • Conducts seminars and other activities: Preparing students to develop personality growth, soft skills, communication abilities, etc.
  • It maintains a job placement format that the students use in the placement drive.

VMOU: Scholarships

VMOU provides scholarships at Rajasthan ONLINE Scholarship System (ROSE) portal. The students are provided scholarships and assistance based on the merit of previous qualifying exams. The students had to register themselves on the portal for getting benefits.

VMOU: Facilities

Library: VMOU has a well-equipped central-library to support the education and research programs by providing physical and intellectual access to information.it has a huge collection of humanities, social sciences, science, and technology which includes references, textbooks, journals, cassettes, E-resources, etc.

Study centres: there are various centres established by the university. These centres contain the following facilities for students as Audio and Video facilities, Coordinators and other trained supervisors, Organization of regional service units, Program-specific outlook.

VMOU: Faculty

The teaching responsibilities of the teaching staff at open university is quite different from regular colleges. The faculties here do not teach in regular classrooms like in conventional universities but they conduct counselling sessions and doubt solving lectures at various regional and study centres. The teaching responsibilities for the open universities are prescribed under the DEC guidelines.

Ques: Does the university provide admission to nonresidents of India or foreign students?

Ans. Yes, students from other countries than India can take admission to the university in various programs subject to their fulfilling the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the university.

Ques: Does the university provide a facility to study more than one course simultaneously?

Ans. No, the two-degree programs cannot be pursued simultaneously. However, a student can pursue 2 programs simultaneously through distance mode or a combination of distance and regular mode from the same/different universities.

Ans. VMOU releases the results online and one can check it by the following process.

  • Visit the official website and click on the results link.
  • Then click on the desired course or the detailed results.
  • Enter the scholar number and select the program
  • Then download the scorecard.

Ques: What is the “student one view” tab?

Ans. It is a link provided on the website where the students can get to know about their results, assignments, question banks, SLM and can even download them. The students can log in with their scholar number or name.
