The discount percentage turns out to be a property of the brand rather than of the product or the price: Nasher Miles' sixteen listings run 67 to 83 per cent, Safari's ten run 66 to 83, Benetton's seventeen sit between 50 and 55, Mokobara's thirteen cluster on exactly 50, all four Fastrack rows print exactly 30, and Decathlon's eight have the lowest median of any brand here at 25. Because the number belongs to the house, two items at the same price can carry wildly different badges. A Safari backpack at Rs. 738 prints 81 per cent off. A Decathlon backpack at Rs. 729 - nine rupees cheaper - prints 9. Three bags within Rs. 73 of each other print 83, 50 and 25. AJIO publishes no ratings on these listings, so none are shown or claimed. Twenty-two picks, every sticker read aloud.

Most Indian shelves we read this month publish a star rating on every listing, however thin the sample behind it. AJIO publishes none at all. On August 6, 2026 we read 226 live listings across kurta, dress and sandals searches, and not one carried a rating or a review count - which leaves the discount badge as the only number on the tile. So we grouped the 226 by label instead of by price, and the badge turns out not to be a per-product figure at all. Eleven XQsee dresses on this shelf print exactly 89 per cent off. Five ZWERLON X AG dresses print exactly 89 per cent. Twenty-eight kurtas from AVAASA MIX N' MATCH, AJIO's own house label, print exactly 49 per cent across a fourfold price range. That is forty-four listings - nearly one in five - whose discount was set once for a whole range. Meanwhile in footwear, brands you can look up elsewhere discount at 10 to 48 per cent, and labels that exist mainly as AJIO listings discount at 69 to 80. 22 picks, every label named.

On August 5, 2026 we read 358 AJIO women's footwear listings across four queries - heels, flats, sandals and boots - and found something worth leading with: not one of them carries a star rating or a rating count. With no crowd signal available, the only readable structure is price against stated MRP, and it splits the wall into three systems. Marketplace labels such as Shoetopia and FROH FEET run 267 listings at a median 69 per cent off a median Rs. 1,999 sticker, landing at a median Rs. 675. Shoe-retail brands including ELLE, Mochi, Metro and Bata run 72 at a median 50 per cent - 24 of them at exactly 50 - landing at Rs. 1,100. Chain-store labels like MAX and YOUSTA run 19 at a median 25 per cent against a median Rs. 599 sticker. The comparison that carries the page: a RED TAPE flip-flop at 86 per cent off costs Rs. 602, and a MAX ballerina at 8 per cent off costs Rs. 549. Twenty-three picks, every stated MRP printed.

On August 5, 2026 we read 444 AJIO menswear listings across four queries - formal shirts, casual shirts, trousers and blazers - and counted repeats before comparing anything. Two hundred and ninety-six of the 444 share a selling price with at least one other listing, and 186 sit at a price shared by three or more. ARROW's 71 listings collapse to 35 prices: ten blazers at exactly Rs. 3,600 against Rs. 7,999, nine more at exactly Rs. 3,150 against Rs. 6,999, with titles differing only in words like slim, regular and notched. Seven NETPLAY and DNMX listings share Rs. 509, pricing a shirt and a pair of chinos identically. Six Peter England shirts share Rs. 811, charging the same for half sleeves as for full. Strangest of all, five listings from four unrelated brands share Rs. 500 against an identical Rs. 2,499 sticker. Not one of the 444 carries a rating. Twenty-four picks.

On August 5, 2026 we read 127 AJIO listings across sarees, kurta sets and ethnic dresses, keeping every row with a price, a stated MRP above it and an image. Then we did one piece of arithmetic on each: sticker times one minus the badge. For 119 of the 127 it gives the selling price to within a rupee, and only 12 of those prices end in 00 or 99. The rest are Rs. 359, Rs. 468, Rs. 516, Rs. 671, Rs. 944 - numbers no one writes on a price tag, because the price here is an output rather than a decision. Thirty-three badge values cover all 127 listings and the top three account for 38, because labels apply one percentage across a whole range. Twenty-five stated MRPs appear on more than one listing; Rs. 4,345 is the sticker on five garments from four labels selling at five different prices. The exception is AVAASA, the retailer's own label, whose stickers are ordinary retail numbers carrying 29 to 49 per cent. Twenty-two picks.

We ran six monsoon queries against AJIO's own search API on August 4, 2026 - sandals, flip flops, rain jackets, sliders, clogs and crocs - and kept the 413 listings that returned a price, a stated MRP and an image. Then we counted one word. Of the 67 rain layers, 31 say waterproof in the title. Twenty-nine are named a raincoat or rain jacket and say nothing at all about water. Three are windcheaters, which is a promise about wind. And the badges run backwards: the listings that state the claim are discounted at a median of 45 per cent, the silent ones at 53 - the deepest badge in the rack, 72 per cent, sits on a jacket described only by its fit, and the most expensive listing at Rs. 8,059 makes no water claim either. On the footwear side, of 346 listings exactly one mentions anti-skid, quick-dry or waterproof; 98 say slip-on and 45 say open-toe. Twenty-three picks, Rs. 316 to Rs. 8,059. AJIO returned no rating on any of the 413, so nothing here carries a rating pill.

On August 4, 2026 we pulled five AJIO home searches - bedsheet, curtains, cushion cover, bath towel and dinner set - and kept the 308 listings that returned a price, a stated MRP and an image. Then we read the titles for a quantity, and the shelf came apart. Rs. 288 buys either two BIANCA door curtains or one, from the same brand, against the same Rs. 2,399 sticker, at the same 88 per cent badge. Rs. 360 buys any of seven CG HOMES double bedsheets, from 150 TC flat with nothing else to 200 TC fitted with two pillow covers. Rs. 234 buys five Rosarahome cushion covers; Rs. 245 buys two. And the pattern is measurable: of 81 curtain listings, the 62 that state a piece count carry a median 53 per cent discount, while the 19 that state none carry 81. Five bath towels in 49 publish a GSM. AJIO publishes no ratings at all, so this page argues from stated specification and division only. Twenty-four picks, every one priced per piece.

We ran six activewear queries against AJIO's own search API on August 3, 2026 - sports shoes, running shoes, track pants, sweatshirts, gym wear and sports bras - and kept the 395 listings that returned a price, a stated MRP and an image. Then we counted what the grid tells you. Only 33 of the 395 name a performance property: an impact or support level, cushioning, moisture control, breathability, compression, stretch or a quick-dry finish. Zero of the 80 men's sports shoes do. Zero of the 40 sweatshirts do. Twenty of the 33 are sports bras and 14 are Decathlon listings. And the 33 that say something carry the smallest badges - a median 40 per cent against 60 per cent for the other 362. Twenty-four picks from Rs. 120 to Rs. 4,406, organised by how much the listing actually tells you. AJIO returned no rating and no review count on any of the 395, so nothing here carries a rating pill.

We read 443 in-stock women's ethnic listings from AJIO's own feed on July 31, 2026 — kurta sets, anarkalis, sarees, salwar suits, dupattas and ethnic dresses from 81 brands, priced Rs. 81 to Rs. 4,234 — and counted how many of them shared a stated MRP. The answer reframes the whole shelf: 443 listings carry only 197 distinct MRPs. Fifteen garments from three unrelated brands all declare Rs. 4,345 and sell at anything from Rs. 455 to Rs. 975 — Rs. 520 of movement on a sticker that never moves, with badges falling from 90% to 78% as a matter of arithmetic. Ten more garments share Rs. 4,596, fourteen share Rs. 2,998, and on that last shelf a six-metre saree and a three-piece kurta set declare the identical MRP. The exception is AVAASA, Reliance's own label, which marks 22 of its 34 listings down by exactly 49% — a house rate, not a derived percentage. And the read's smallest badge, 15%, sits on a SOCH saree, because a brand with shops has a ticket price it actually charges.

We read Neemans's own product feed on August 2, 2026 - 648 in-stock listings with images. Two hundred and forty-five of those are sneakers, and we have covered the catalogue as a whole three times already, so this page is the other 309 products: flip flops, slides, sandals, slip-ons and loafers, organised by what you would actually wear them for. Doing it that way surfaces something the price cannot. Across all 309 there are only 28 distinct prices you can pay, and whole categories collapse onto one number - the mainstream slides all sit between Rs. 599 and Rs. 799, more than a dozen slip-ons sit on Rs. 1,299, and about a dozen loafers sit on Rs. 1,499 with stated MRPs running from Rs. 2,099 to Rs. 4,999. Two slides at the same Rs. 599 carry badges of 57% and 68%. Two loafers at the same Rs. 1,499 carry 65% and 29%. Twenty picks from Rs. 339 to Rs. 1,999, chosen on the shoe rather than the badge.

We read 179 in-stock men's jeans, trousers, chinos and cargo pants from AJIO's own search responses on July 31, 2026, and grouped them by what you actually pay instead of by the badge. The result is hard to unsee. Nine listings sell at exactly Rs. 750 and their discounts read 85%, 75%, 70% and 50% — because POSHAX declares an MRP of Rs. 4,999, Vogaan declares Rs. 2,999, Buda Jeans Co declares Rs. 2,499 and John Players Jeans declares Rs. 1,499. Seven listings sell at exactly Rs. 600 with badges of 85%, 80%, 76% and 70%. The badge is arithmetic on a number the seller chose. Two labels behave differently: NETPLAY and DNMX, both Reliance's own, discount at exactly 49% or exactly 29% across 26 listings with nothing in between — the one place on this shelf where a deeper badge reliably means a bigger reduction. And a MAX jean at Rs. 649 with a 19% badge undercuts every 85%-off listing in our read.

We read all 61 in-stock accessory listings on adidas India's own site on July 31, 2026 — bags, balls, caps, socks and licensed merchandise — and found a store that runs on exactly four discount rates: 0%, 10%, 30% and 50%. Forty-eight listings sit at zero, nine at thirty, three at fifty, one at ten. Every discounted item is a bag; every cap, sock and ball holds full price, including the most-rated item in the read — the FIFA World Cup Trionda match ball, 4.8 from 478 ratings, never discounted. The half-price shelf holds just three bags, two with crowds in the hundreds at 4.7 and 4.8. And one bag, the Classic 3 Bar Logo Backpack, is live twice on the same storefront: Rs. 1,750 at 30% off and Rs. 2,499 at full price, both showing the same 4.8 from 72 because the rating belongs to the bag. Search the exact name before you pay — nothing on either listing points to the other.

We read 245 in-stock AJIO kidswear listings from the retailer's own search responses on July 30, 2026, then grouped them by brand rather than by discount. The pattern is hard to miss. RIO GIRLS appeared ten times and was 75% off all ten times. AARIKA GIRLS ETHNIC appeared seven times and was 60% off all seven. YB DNMX, KG FRENDZ and KB TEAM SPIRIT contributed 41 listings between them and used exactly two figures across the lot: 49% and 75%, nothing in between. At the 75% rate the checkout price is a quarter of the stated MRP to within a rupee, every time. The sharpest pair needs no interpretation: a Rs. 100 crop top badged 75% off sits beside a Rs. 101 T-shirt badged 49% off, same brand, same week — one rupee apart at the till, 26 points apart on the label. Meanwhile MAX used six different rates across nine listings and left one at full price. AJIO returned no ratings for any of the 245, so this page shows no rating pills. Twenty-one picks, read by price first.

We read 88 in-stock adidas India listings from the brand's own content-engine API on July 30, 2026, against kids', junior, boys' and girls' queries. Eighty-one of them carry no discount at all — priced at exactly the stated MRP, nothing struck through. The seven that do use exactly two figures: three at 30% and four at 50%, with nothing in between. Across all 88 listings there are only 30 distinct prices, and two rungs are crowded: eleven listings at Rs. 4,299 and eleven at Rs. 6,599. The Rs. 4,299 rung is entirely kids' club jerseys — Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, Liverpool, Bayern and Arsenal, home and away, this season and last, all at one number. It is a category price, not a product price. And this is the one shelf we read this week with real evidence on it: a full-price Samba OG carries 20,391 ratings, an Adizero EVO SL 6,041, kids' Samba Jane 560. The largest sample on the whole jersey rung is 39, and one jersey shows a perfect 5.0 from four people. Twenty-one picks.

We read 641 in-stock Neeman's listings from the brand's own product feed on July 30, 2026 — sneakers, slip-ons, walking shoes, clogs, flip-flops, slides, sandals and socks — and counted the distinct checkout prices. There are 46. This is a price ladder rather than a set of individually priced shoes, and the rungs are heavily loaded: 73 listings at Rs. 1,999, 58 at Rs. 2,299, 37 at Rs. 1,099, 35 at Rs. 899, 24 at Rs. 4,499. Each rung then carries many stated MRPs, which is where the badge stops meaning anything. The 73 shoes at Rs. 1,999 have ten different MRPs between them, producing badges of 0%, 9%, 20%, 23%, 26%, 29%, 33%, 39%, 43% and 49% — forty percentage points of spread across shoes that cost exactly the same. Rs. 1,099 runs 0% to 70%; Rs. 899 runs 0% to 72%. Some listings carry no reference price at all, and those are the only ones that cannot mislead. On the Rs. 1,099 rung the shoe with the smaller badge has the better sole.
