Mahindra launched the Xylo in India in 2009 based on the Scorpio’s platform. Initially, code-named Ingenio, the Xylo’s news was highly talked about before and after its launch. The 8-seater MUV debuted the Indian market to rival the popular Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera. In 2012, it got a new update for the transmission and a 2.2L mHawk turbo-diesel engine was added for higher-end models. After this, in June 2012, the Xylo had reached more than 1,00,000 units in sales. It got some minor cosmetic upgrades in late 2014 and from then onwards, no upgrades were made. The 2019 Mahindra Xylo is a powerful midrange MUV with the great build quality. It shares the engine of the Mahindra XUV 500.
The 2020 Mahindra Xylo offers two diesel engine variants: 2489 cc and 2179 cc. It sports a top speed of 160 kmph. Offered in five variants: D2, D4, H4, H4 ABS, and H8 Airbag ABS, the Xylo comes with a manual five-speed transmission. The mDI CRDe 2489 cc diesel engine powers the D2 and D4, whereas the mHawk 2179 cc diesel engine powers the H4 and H8 trims. The D2 and D4 trim produce 95 bhp and 220 Nm torque, while the H4 and H8 variants produce a whopping 118.3 bhp and 280 Nm torque.
The sporty appearance and massive dimensions of the Xylo provide for a spacious interior to seat up to nine people according to the variant. It is the best MPV in the segment with the most spacious trunk suitable for large families. The Xylo is incomparable when it comes to cargo volume and cabin space. Years after its launch, the Xylo made a record sales in just one month in 2012, however that didn’t continue for long.

Mahindra Xylo comes in 5 attractive colours namely Rocky Beige, Mist Silver, Java Brown, Fiery Black Toreador Red, and Diamond White.
We recommend that you choose the H4 trim, which may cost quite a few thousand bucks more than the base trims. However, this trim offers the most important features like the optional ABS, Electronic Braking Distribution, and Driver Airbags. The H8 variant is the most premium among the Xylos, but that comes at a hefty price.
The Mahindra Xylo aims at a vast category of buyers and offers the engine options accordingly. The Xylo was powered by the Bolero Storm's CRDe engine, which has been fine-tuned to produce even more power. But this engine was discontinued and relevant technological advancements were made to the engine. The Basic models of Xylo come in 2489 cc and the higher variants come with 2179 cc diesel engines. The 2489 cc mDI CRDe engine produces a power of 118.3 bhp @ 4000 rpm and the 2179 cc mHawk engine generates 95 bhp @ 3600 rpm of power. The torque generated by the base model engine is 220 Nm @ 1400 rpm and the torque produced by higher trims is 280 Nm @ 2400 rpm. The mHawk engine of the H4, H4 Plus, and H8 variants is turbocharged with fixed geometry. All variants of the Mahindra Xylo are Rear Wheel Drive cars.

The transmission is still a five-speed manual gearbox. Whenever a gust of power is needed, the top-mounted intercooler delivers it. The Dual pilot injection improves the drivability scores of the Xylo and the advanced engine damping, hydraulic lash adjuster and auto tensioner technologies ensure minimum service frequency for a pleasurable drive.
The Xylo’s 2.2L diesel engine churns out 118.3 bhp of maximum power at 4000 rpm and a torque of 280 Nm, which gives you an excellent pickup and acceleration. The mHawk turbo-diesel engine produces only 95 bhp, which is the same power as that of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Xylo can reach a top speed of 155 kmph and it can reach from 0 to 100 kmph in just around 16 seconds.

The Xylo is pretty quick, but it is slower than the Innova by 3 seconds. The Xylo's mDI CRDe engine's 118.3 bhp is far less than the Innova Crysta’s dual VVTi engine that generates an impressive power of 163.7 bhp. Hence, in terms of acceleration, Toyota Innova Crysta is the winner. The Xylo has the same acceleration as that of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, even though the Ertiga's DDIS 200 Smart Hybrid Engine's power is less. Both the cars reach from 0-100 kmph in around 16 seconds. Xylo's top speed is 156-159 kmph
Mahindra has focused mainly on the suspension of the new Xylo. The minute you drive the car over bumpy surfaces, you can feel that. The polyurethane bushes in the suspension mounting points make the new car more stable and comfortable than ever. The Xylo gets a new set of polyurethane bump stoppers over the rear axle to take loads and impacts when there is a dip in the rear. It also gets new shock absorbers and the higher variants get a wider 205 section tire.

The 2020 Mahindra Xylo's new stiff bushes in the suspension of the shock absorbers make it much more composed of better handling dynamics. This greatly reduces the stiffness that the Xylo was known for and at the same time it reduced roll and pitch. Xylo’s hydraulic power steering provides effortless handling even in tight spaces and congested traffic. The larger 215/75 R15 tires of the Xylo provide sharper handling and cornering. All these come together to make the Xylo, a more composed car with amazing handling.
The Mahindra has improved the Xylo’s brakes and the higher-end variants offer improved wider 215 / 75 R15 wheels than the 205 / 65 R15 wheels that the base D2 and D4 variants come with. Its braking efficiency of 100 to 0 kmph in just 50 seconds.

The Mahindra Xylo's braking is sharp and the road grip is pretty good. It comes to a halt very quickly in emergencies, thanks to the Air Braking System (ABS) and the Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). It comes to a halt from 80 to 0 kmph in 3.13 seconds, which is pretty much decent for a car of 1875 Kg of curb weight.
The Mahindra Xylo’s 14.02 kmpl mileage may not be as efficient as the Ertiga Diesel's 24.2 kmpl, but it is more efficient than the Innova Crysta’s 13.68 kmpl, though.

Concerning the MUV’s size, Mahindra tries hard to keep the fuel efficiency under acceptable limits. The base 2.5L variants of Mahindra Xylo deliver an ARAI certified mileage of 14.95 kmpl while the 2.2L variants return 14.02 kmpl. However, the real-world mileage would be around 10-12kmpl which is not bad for a vehicle of this size.
The muscular stance of the Xylo comes from the boxy contours and aggressively styled front profile sporting elements like black-finished grille, large headlamps and fog lamps with air-dam insert lend. The sporty flair comes from the wheel arches, wheel arch cladding and body graphics

The Mahindra badge blends well with the bonnet lines on the car. The rear gets the same extended chrome too with a chrome strip running across the tailgate. Comparatively, the Xylo offers more kerb weight when compared to rivals. The kerb weight allpows the car to maintain balance while off-roading or encounter uneven roads.

Available as a seven, eight, or nine-seater, the Xylo’s spacious cabin has ample room in the second and third row. The Mahindra has always focused on the Xylo’s spacious interiors and the new model Xylo continues to reflect that.
The height-adjustable driver seat provides the perfect driving position and comfort. The Xylo provides a combination of seating options, with the entry-level variants getting a bench seat setup. The dual-tone interior with the premium upholstery looks upscale. The fully reclining flatbed seats offer good lumbar support and several storage points like bottle holder, storage cubby and glove box. The Indian market has a soft spot for beige interiors, so the Xylo came up with a beige interior with a wood finish in the dashboard. On the centre console, the new Xylo’s updated panels look more premium.

The 2019 Toyota Innova Crysta is the chief competitor of the Xylo, which offers premium and luxurious interiors and is way more better than the plasticky interiors of the Xylo.
The infotainment of the Mahindra Xylo doesn't have a touchscreen display. Bluetooth connectivity is standard. The music system is a 2 DIN, 4-speaker audio system that provides a booming sound for an immersive audio experience. It comes with a CD/MP3 player, a USB interface, and an auxiliary port. The steering wheel has some built-in volume control buttons for the audio system in the right and left spokes. Unfortunately, all these audio features are standard only on higher variants.
The top-trim includes voice command to control the audio features. In the lower models, the above features can be purchased as an optional feature, though. The rivals offer better infotainment options and features than the Xylo.

The updated generic brown colour plastic panels now come in a shade of black. This makes the Xylo’s interior look more mature and luxurious and helps reduce the overall clutter on the inside. Though the Xylo's dual-tone interior looks upscale, its quality is not up to the mark. Most rivals offer a much upscale interior than the Xylo.

The 2020 Mahindra Xylo offers a generous trunk volume of 376 litres, which is the highest boot space compared to the competitors. The Xylo's boot space is higher than the Innova Crysta's 300 litres of boot space.
The Xylo is still a great MUV for long-distance family trips, though. Compared to both the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta, the Xylo offers a tremendous amount of boot space.

The primary safety features including dual airbags, ABS with EBD and intellipark reverse assist are standard on higher models. The engine immobilizer is a feature of all variants. With Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, the Xylo sure offers good braking. Unfortunately, neither of these features is standard on all variants. All these features are available for top-end models, which also feature the intellipark reverse assist system.
However, basic models do get central locking, rear defogger, and engine immobilizer in the safety aspect. The Xylo doesn't have much in terms of safety ratings, whereas the rivals, such as the Ertiga get a 3 star global NCAP rating for safety. Mahindra hasn't focused on the safety rating of the Xylo as much as it did with the Marazzo (4 stars global NCAP rating), Mahindra's latest iteration of MUV.
The 2020 Mahindra Xylo starts at Rs 9.37 Lakh for D2(Diesel), Maruti Ertiga starts at Rs 8.84 Lakh for LXI (Petrol), and Toyota Innova starts at Rs 14.93 lakh. Xylo offers the 2489 cc engine, while Ertiga has a 1498 cc (Diesel) engine. The Xylo offers a mileage of 14.95 kmpl and the Ertiga offers a mileage of 26.2 kmpl (Diesel). The Mahindra Xylo is cheaper than the other main competitor, Honda Mobilio but expensive than the popular selling Maruti Ertiga. However, the Xylo is much bigger than both the car and it aims more at the likes of the Toyota Innova, which is a popular and expensive MUV. Though the Ertiga offers a better fuel economy than the Xylo, it has very little boot space and hence it is less practical.
The Innova Crysta offers a poor mileage of 10.75 kmpl than the Xylo, which offers 14.02 kmpl. Innova Crysta's boot space of 400 litres is enough to beat the Xylo's 376 litres of boot space, but considering the price factor, the Xylo is the better option. The Xylo cannot compare itself to the Innova Crysta in terms of luxury, but it provides the space for large Indian families looking for cheaper options. Concerning its price, space, and fuel economy, the Mahindra Xylo is the best MPV for large families.
The 2020 Mahindra Xylo is an all-rounder, though it may not have the flair and road manners of its competition. However, the new suspension has made it a much more comfortable car and by all means, it is spacious on the inside offering more space than any rival in its class could have. Mahindra's diesel-driven Xylo is a great MUV for off-roading, long-distance drive, and daily work commutes. It is very easy to maneuver around in city traffics, despite its size. Its muscular exteriors establish a commanding presence on the road. The sporty exteriors are well proportionate to the spacious and comfortable interiors. Moreover, plenty of thoughtful storage cubbies inside the Xylo's cabin make it a very capable companion for long-distance trips with big families.
The Mahindra Xylo is a robust MUV that can tackle even the worst of our roads. That said its impressive price range of Rs 7.73 lakh and Rs 10.93 lakh comes with our favorite flatbed folding seats and the foldaway snack trays. Bearing all these in mind, Xylo is an ideal MUV that you should think about once-over if you are on the lookout for a comfortable seven-seater. In short, the 2019 Mahindra Xylo is an Innova slayer with a sedan market in mind. It is spacious, comfortable, and value for money.
