Croma's Flash Sale has a Midnight Edition: extra online-only discounts that run from 9 PM to 10 AM, while the showrooms sleep. We pulled the entire rack live at half past midnight on August 26 — nine category shelves, 163 tiles — and kept 23 deals worth losing sleep over: a Redmi at half price, a 55-inch LG NanoCell at 48% off, Sony's WH-1000XM6 at Rs. 10,000 below sticker, laptops from Rs. 59,990 and a Voltas AC at early off-season pricing. Every price was captured inside the live window, with the theatrical MRPs called out where we found them.

We read Flipkart's soundbar listings on 26 August 2026 and seated 22 bars priced Rs. 3,499 to Rs. 29,990, every price, MRP, rating and rating count taken from Flipkart's own search results the same day. Two things hold across the whole shelf. First, the discount badge measures each brand's MRP policy rather than your saving: Sony's HT-S100F is 33 per cent off and Samsung's bars 35 and 38, while Mivi, Motorola, GOVO and Goboult run 61 to 81 per cent - and the Mivi Fort Sonic 900, claiming 80 per cent off a stated Rs. 64,999, costs Rs. 3,009 MORE at checkout than the Sony claiming 33. Second, Flipkart pools rating counts across a model family: the Fort Sonic 400, 600, 800 and 900 all show 4.3 from exactly 36,067 ratings, so the reviews cannot tell four bars apart. The counts that are genuinely their own - boAt's 89,396, Zebronics' 60,355, Samsung's 17,648 - are flagged on the card.

We read Flipkart's television listings on 26 August 2026 and seated 22 sets priced Rs. 8,299 to Rs. 63,990, every price, MRP, rating and rating count taken from Flipkart's own search results the same day. Each listing states its screen size and resolution class, so we priced both. The two figures disagree. Price per inch rises with size - a median Rs. 356 an inch at 32 inches, Rs. 605 at 43 and Rs. 673 at 55 - which makes small televisions look like the bargain. Price per megapixel collapses in the other direction: a median Rs. 10,761 per megapixel on HD Ready against Rs. 3,979 on 4K. The result is the headline. The Rs. 63,990 Sony BRAVIA costs Rs. 7,719 per megapixel; the Rs. 8,299 Foxsky costs Rs. 7,904. The most expensive television in this read buys pixels more cheaply than the cheapest one - and the genuinely best value, Rs. 2,328 per megapixel, is a Rs. 19,299 43-inch 4K in the middle of the page.

Apple never discounts, so the game at an authorised chain like Vijay Sales is played in three lanes: a sticker cut Apple's own store won't give, a card-cashback lane on ICICI, Axis and SBI credit cards, and a stores-only exchange bonus. We pulled all 50 live listings off Vijay Sales' Apple Store page on August 26 and kept 21 picks — an iPhone Air at Rs. 22,910 under sticker, the new MacBook Neo that the 'from Rs. 66,590' banner is really about, a 37% Beats Studio Pro steal, and the honest math on every 'starting from' price, which quietly includes the cashback you only get with the right card.

Puma India runs five checkout offers at once - an extra 10% off your first order, 10% above Rs. 4,999, 10% on two or more items, a prepaid 5%, and a no-return coupon - but its own terms say they cannot be stacked. Puma's own sneaker wall, filtered by budget and swept live on August 26, 2026: 22 pairs across three price bands — under Rs. 3,000, Rs. 3,000-5,000, and Rs. 5,000-10,000. The floor is the Smashic at Rs. 2,024; the sweet spot is the X-Ray 2 Square at 55% off; the ceiling is the BMW M Fade at Rs. 8,249. Every price and MRP was read from in.puma.com's listing pages the same day, and every pick owns a distinct job — best overall, biggest steal, the F1-weekend shoe. Roles, not rankings.

We read 301 in-stock Crocs footwear listings from crocs.in's own catalogue on July 30, 2026. Crocs uses exactly five discount rates — 0%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 40% — with nothing in between, and 196 of the 301 carry no discount at all. The rate is not decided by the price tier: one stated MRP of Rs. 2,995 holds 55 listings split across all five outcomes, and Rs. 5,495 holds 38 split four ways. What decides it is the colourway. The Classic Kids Clog in navy and elite blue costs Rs. 2,995; the identical clog in lavender, aquamarine and blue calcite costs Rs. 2,396 — same mould, Rs. 599 apart. The Crocband in white and black is Rs. 4,396; in charcoal, blue bolt and microchip it is Rs. 3,297. On licensed clogs the character does the same job: Superman, Pokemon, Minecraft and TMNT hold at Rs. 5,495 while Frozen Elsa is 30% off. The core colours and current licences keep their price; the rest are reduced. Crocs returned no ratings, so this page shows no rating pills.

We read Myntra's boys' and girls' shoe shelves on 26 August 2026 from the store's own listing data and seated 23 pairs priced Rs. 306 to Rs. 2,023. The pattern is consistent enough to shop by. Twelve of the seventy-five listings we pulled carry no discount at all, and they are the names with shops behind them - max, which is Lifestyle's own label, and Bubblegummers, which is Bata's. adidas and Puma discount 10 to 40 per cent off list prices their own stores charge. Every badge above 70 per cent in this read belongs to a label that exists only as a listing: a PARRY WALK school shoe at Rs. 399 claims 87 per cent off Rs. 2,999, while a max clog at the same Rs. 399 claims nothing off Rs. 399. Rating counts repeat across colourways too - Crazyly shows 506 on three slip-ons and 480 on three sneakers - so a large number may describe a design rather than the pair you receive. Every price, MRP, badge and rating here is Myntra's own.

We read Amazon's washing machine shelves on 26 August 2026 across three searches and seated 21 machines priced Rs. 4,999 to Rs. 34,690, every price and stated MRP taken from Amazon's own results the same day. One word covers three appliances here, and each has its own price per kilogram of drum. Semi-automatics run Rs. 588 to Rs. 1,899 a kilogram, fully automatic top loaders Rs. 2,320 to Rs. 2,856, and front loaders Rs. 3,061 to Rs. 4,399 - so a kilogram of front-load capacity costs up to seven times a kilogram of the cheapest semi-automatic. The sharpest case is a 10.5 kg VW semi-automatic at Rs. 9,999: it holds more laundry than every automatic machine in this read and costs less than all of them. Within Bosch's own front-load range the rate falls as the drum grows, from Rs. 4,199 a kilogram at 7 kg to Rs. 3,854 at 9 kg.

We ran the same three washing-machine searches on Amazon and Flipkart on 26 August 2026 and matched every machine we could on brand, drum capacity and machine type. Eighteen pairs matched, and twelve of them carry exactly the same price to the rupee - a Bosch 9 kg front loader at Rs. 34,690 on both, a Midea 8 kg at Rs. 24,490 on both, four Samsung semi-automatics level. On the six pairs that do differ, Flipkart is cheaper every single time and Amazon never is, by Rs. 1,149 to Rs. 3,896 and Rs. 13,248 in total. The caveat we flag on every row: neither store prints a model number in its title, so those six may be different models sharing three attributes. Across the whole shelf Flipkart's median price per kilogram is lower in all three machine types, but its search returned 121 listings to Amazon's 43 - and Amazon holds the cheapest kilogram we found anywhere, at Rs. 588.

We read Amazon India's kitchen chimney shelf on 26 August 2026 across three queries and seated 22 models priced Rs. 4,199 to Rs. 25,749. Two of them carry a discount badge of 99 per cent, and in both cases the reason is the same: the stated MRP is exactly one hundred times the selling price. RUWA's Rs. 4,199 chimney lists against Rs. 4,19,900 and Glen's Rs. 24,999 KOPPA against Rs. 24,99,900 - a price field entered in paise rather than a discount. Because the badges on this shelf cannot be compared, every card here prices the specification the category is actually sold on: suction in m3/hr. That rate runs from about Rs. 4.7 per m3/hr on an INALSA at Rs. 5,199 to Rs. 15.6 on the Glen KOPPA. Rating counts repeat across hood widths too - Elica's 60 cm and 90 cm 1350 m3/hr chimneys both show 4,459 ratings, Faber's two autoclean models both show 678 - so a large count often describes a model rather than the width you are buying.

We pulled both retailers' own air conditioner listings on 26 August 2026 - 27 models at Vijay Sales, 42 at Croma - and found six configurations stocked by both at the same brand, tonnage, star rating and type. Vijay Sales is cheaper on four of them, by Rs. 1,501 to Rs. 4,211, including all three Daikin models. Croma is cheaper on two, by Rs. 1,300 on a Carrier and Rs. 2,000 on a Godrej. The discount badges cannot settle it, because the same air conditioner carries a different MRP at each shop: Daikin's 1.5 ton 3 star is struck from Rs. 56,100 at Vijay Sales and Rs. 55,100 at Croma, and the Voltas MRPs differ by Rs. 4,000. Evidence is asymmetric too - Croma publishes a rating on 27 of its 42 listings, though the deepest sample on the shelf is 38 voters and fifteen are rated by fewer than five people, while Vijay Sales publishes no rating on any of its 27. Neither price includes installation.

We read Nykaa's hair care shelf on 26 August 2026 across shampoo, hair oil, conditioner and serum queries, and seated 22 products priced Rs. 152 to Rs. 4,410. Two things make this shelf different from a marketplace one. The discounts are small and orderly - the median badge is 20 per cent, the largest in the whole pull is 42 per cent, and four products are cut by 5 per cent or less - so the percentage carries some information rather than none. And the ratings are useless as a score: all 63 products sit between 4.1 and 4.9 with a median of 4.4, while the rating counts range from 290 to 539,781. A TRESemme shampoo at Rs. 822 carries 539,781 ratings at 4.4; a Redken pair at Rs. 4,410 carries 2,557 ratings at the same 4.4. Format sets price more than brand does: oils start at Rs. 170, serums run to Rs. 1,275, and the one salon shampoo-and-conditioner pairing costs five times the shelf's best-seller.

We read both sunscreen shelves on 26 August 2026 - 13 SPF 50 sunscreens from Nykaa's own listings and 27 from Amazon India's search results. The clearest case is Deconstruct's gel sunscreen, which costs Rs. 379 on both sites: Nykaa strikes it from Rs. 399 and prints 5 per cent off, Amazon strikes it from Rs. 758 and prints 50 per cent off. That is not an isolated listing. On 19 of Amazon's 27 sunscreens the stated MRP is exactly twice the selling price, which produces a 50 per cent badge mechanically - Rs. 399 against Rs. 798, Rs. 1,009 against Rs. 2,018, Rs. 1,200 against Rs. 2,400. Nykaa's median badge across its 13 is 12 per cent and its largest is 20. On rupees the answer is mixed: Amazon is cheaper on two premium D2C sunscreens, Nykaa is within Rs. 9 on the mass-market ones and carries far deeper rating counts. Neither shelf publishes pack sizes consistently.

Flipkart Flights is running a windowed flash sale: flat 15% off on flight bookings paid with HDFC Bank credit cards, live only from 2-3 PM, 8-9 PM and 10 PM-12 AM each day, with limited inventory per slot.
