XAT Selection Procedure 2020

XAT Selection Process will begin its selection procedure in February 2020. The selection starts after the result, which is expected on January 31, 2020. Students who meet the cutoff will be further to other rounds. The selection process for all the colleges is not unified. Candidates are required to study the selection processes of the college they are interested in. There is a two-step process for selection:

Shortlisting candidates: The students are shortlisted based on their XAT scores. The shortlisted candidates are classified based on their preferences and the individual cutoff of the colleges.

Writing Ability Test (WAT): Shortlisted candidates will be called for the second round of Writing Ability Test and later, for a Personal Interview Round. Participating institutes conduct Personal Interviews and Group Discussions for selection. Some institutes also take past academic records, work experience and the CV of candidates.

Tertiary Selection Methods

Group Discussion: GD rounds help in discovering the packer among the punch. Candidates are divided into groups of 8-15 participants and are given a topic to discuss within the group. Each GD lasts about 15-25 minutes. The topics range from politics, current affairs, social issues to advertising, education, technology or business in India.

Some guidelines for the Group Discussion are:

  1. Candidates will be given a topic beforehand and can develop some quick notes for themselves.
  2. Candidates cannot lose their calm while answering their questions. They will be judged on their candour.
  3. Candidates should focus on the weight of their argument, rather than their vocabulary.
  4. Candidates should mind their body language, as it will be counted.
  5. Candidates should not pick personal fights with others.
  6. Candidates should be updated with the current affairs of the country and must be able to frame their arguments in support of facts, rather than your opinions.
  7. Candidates are required to address the entire group while talking.

XAT Personal Interview: Candidates can expect questions about the candidate's background, achievements, academics and motivations behind pursuing an MBA. An interview aims to judge the candidates based on their content, confidence, communications skills and the ability to perform under pressure. Candidates' lack of communication will be a breaking point of the interview.

Some guidelines for the Group Discussion are:

  1. Candidates should not fear the interview panel and take them as experienced academicians and experts who wish to bring out the best in them.
  2. Candidates must mind their general etiquettes.
  3. Candidates must be thorough with their application form, essay and resume.
  4. Candidates must be honest in their answers, as bluffing will not take them very far.
  5. Candidates must treat the interview like a talking session.
  6. Candidates must look presentable and have a welcoming smile.

Step 3) Final Selection: After conducting the XAT 2020 selection procedure, a list of final students is prepared. Those candidates will be offered admissions to the management programs that they were chosen in.
