UPDATE - VITEEE 2020 which was to be conducted online from 13th to 19th April, 2020 has been postponed. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, VITEEE 2020 will be conducted from 29th July 2020 to 2nd August 2020  Application process for which is also extended again, candidates can fill the form in both online and offline (OMR) mode. 

VITEEE is a university-level engineering Common Undergraduate Entrance Test for admission in Vellore, Chennai, Amravati and Bhopal campuses of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam is one of the prestigious tests offering admission to varied courses at all its 4 campuses. In 2019, 1,62,000 candidates registered for the exam.

Slot booking process is expected to commence after the registration ends, candidates can download their admit card after that. Counselling process is held in offline mode at the assigned centers. A new change in VITEEE 2020 Exam Pattern is introduced this year that is the introduction of 10 Aptitude questions. This is in addition to existing sections on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.

VITEEE 2020 - Exam Sessions

VITEEE 2020 is conducted in three shifts in a day. The duration of each shift is 2.5 hours each.

VITEEE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for VITEEE 2020 depends on the basis of various factors.

On the basis of Nationality

  • Applicants must be Resident/ Non Resident Indian National.
  • PIO candidates are also eligible to apply for the aptitude test.
  • Foreign candidates or candidates obtaining their qualifying degree from abroad can apply in foreign applicant category. 
  • A separate application form will be made available for foreign category students.

On the basis of Qualifying Examination

  • Candidates passed or appeared 10+2 from a state board, Central Board of Secondary Education or Indian School of Certificate Examination.
  • Intermediate or 2 year pre University Examination from a recognised university is also accepted.
  • Candidates having High School Certificate EXamination of the Cambridge University or INternational Baccalaureate Diploma, Geneva are eligible to apply. 
  • Regular NIOS) (National Institute of Open Learning) Category students are also eligible to apply, they have to produce a Migration cum Transfer Certificate at the time of Joining.

On the Basis of Qualifying Marks

Minimum of 60% marks are required in each Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology in the Qualifying Examination of VITEEE 2020 Exam. 10% relaxation in the qualifying marks is granted to the following categories:

  • Students from SC/ST
  • Candidates from Jammu and Kashmir/Ladakh and 7 sisters of North East (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura)
  • Domicile certificates for such students are mandatory to produce at the time of counselling.

Age Limit Criteria

  • Candidates with PCM with English as their Qualifying Subjects are eligible to apply for all B.Tech Programs.
  • PCB with English Candidates can apply for Biology Stream courses but have to opt for mathematics as a bridge course mandatorily. 

VITEEE 2020 Application Form

Students applying for VITEEE 2020 Exam are only eligible for admission to undergraduate programs offered at different campuses of VIT. Following steps must be followed to complete the application process for VITEEE 2020.

  1. Start with Basic Registration: Navigate to the official VITEEE 2020 portal vit.ac.in and go to “New User Register Here” link. Basic details like name, DoB, gender, nationality and contact information are to be filled up post which an OTP will be generated. 
  2. Fill Application Form: Next step is to fill up a detailed application form including Personal and Parents information, Educational Qualification, Address information and so on.
  3. Upload Scanned Photograph and Signature: In specified format and size, candidates have to upload their scanned photo and signature, preferably a light color or white background will be beneficial.

  1. Payment of Registration Fees: Candidates can pay the VITEEE 2020 Exam fees through various modes through NET Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of VIT Campuses- Bhopal, Chennai, Vellore or Amravati.

Note: In case, candidates fail to do the transaction for VITEEE 2020 at one go or it gets stuck in mid it is advised not to cancel the payment rather wait for 24 hours and try again from the same registered email id. Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome are two preferred web browsers to fill the online application form.

VITEEE 2020 - Offline Application Form

Candidates who do not wish to fill the application form for VITEEE 2020 in online mode can avail the facility of offline form filling. It is available at all VIT University Campuses and selected post offices mentioned down below. In addition to the application form, candidates will also get a prospectus, VIT brochure and important enclosures in the envelope. Cost of offline application is INR 1250/- 

  • Candidates should use only black ball point pen and fill out the form in capital letters. 
  • A recent color photograph is to be pasted in the space provided. And all the details are to be filled in correctly without mistakes, 
  • Note the Application number and send the form in an enclosed envelope to Director-UG Admissions, VIT.

VITEEE 2020 Form Correction Window

Candidates can make suitable corrections in their VITEEE 2020 exam application form until application form is available. This one time correction facility is beneficial to candidates who have mistakenly submitted incorrect details in their form. 

VITEEE 2020 Application Submission Status 

Once the entire registration process is complete,candidates have the option to crosscheck their form submission status on the official website itself. A link stating “VITEEE 2020 Application Status” is activated. Candidates can enter their application number and verification code to check their status. 

VITEEE 2020 - Slot Booking and Exam Centers

VITEEE 2020 exams will be held over a period of several days and slots. Selecting a day and slot totally depends on the convenience of the candidate.The option of selecting the exam centers is available during the slot booking process which begins after application gets over.

Following process should be followed to book the exam center and slot for VITEEE 2020.

  • Visit the official website vit.ac.in and click on the “Book a seat” option.
  • Select the state and the city for the test.
  • Select the test center and exam slot for VITEEE 2020 Exam.
  • Click on “Book” to confirm slot booking.

Pointers to keep in mind while booking a slot for VITEEE 2020

  • The booking is done on the basis of first come first serve.
  • VITEEE OTBS 2020 will be a real time application.
  • The booking window is open for 1 minute only.
  • Candidates can select the slot only once.

VITEEE 2020 Exam - Admit Card

Admit card generation for VITEEE 2020 will begin as soon as the slot booking is done. Candidates can download the admit card from the official website. It is mandatory for the students to bring the admit card to the examination hall. Admit cards will have necessary information such as name, roll number, allotted date, exam center and slot.

VITEEE 2020 Exam Pattern (Revised)

A new section of aptitude consisting of 10 questions was added in 2020 to the already existing 4 sections: Maths/Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English. 5 Questions in Physics and Chemistry were reduced from 40 to 35. Thus the total number of questions remains the same. 

A simple marking scheme will be followed in VITEEE 2020 Exam.1 mark is granted for every correct answer whereas there is no negative marking for any incorrect answer.

VITEEE 2020 English and Aptitude Syllabus

A short poem or passage will be given along with questions based on it, English Grammar and Pronunciation. The level of question is that of Higher Secondary. 

Aptitude part has questions on Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Syllogism, Number Series, Coding and Decoding along with some questions on Clocks, Calendars and Directions.

VITEEE 2020 Exam - Results

Vellore institute will release the results of the aptitude test tentatively after 2-3 weeks from examination date on its official portal. Application Number and Date of Birth are required to access the same. Results will include marks secured by the candidate and rank bagged by them. 

Candidates have to visit the official website vit.ac.in and go to the ‘VIT 2020 Result’ link. Application number and Date of Birth are required to login, post which results of the candidate will be displayed on the screen. 

Calculation of VITEEE 2020 Scores?

Since the aptitude test is conducted in different sessions and slots , a statistical and calculated method is adopted to normalise the scores. VIT follows the Equipercentile Equating Method. Scores in different forms are treated as the same percentile rank. After scores are equated, rank and merit list is prepared. 

VITEEE 2020 Exam Cut Off

Difficulty level of the exam, previous year cut off trends, Number of applied and appearing candidates and NUmber of seats available in the year across all participating institutes are factors determining VITEEE 2020 Exam Cut Off. 

No official Cut Off is released by VIT rather released in the form of closing rank. Seperate Cut off for each branch and different campuses are released. Initial 20.000 rank holders will be called for Round I of counselling in May, 2020.

VITEEE 2020 Rank/Merit List

Exam conducting authority will prepare a rank cum merit list taking into consideration the marks obtained by the candidates in the engineering aptitude test in VITEEE 2020 exam. These ranks and scores are usually informed to the candidates via SMS at the time of declaration of result. Results once declared will not be entertained for any correction or reconsideration.

VITEEE 2020 Exam - Counselling 

Post declaration of merit list, VIT will call the qualified candidates for further rounds of counselling and set allotment. Counselling will be conducted in two phases: Round 1 and Round 2. Candidates have to report at the assigned centers of counselling for document verification and seat locking process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques: What does VIT keep in front as the eligibility Criteria in order to apply for it?

Ans: Candidates are supposed to have their Higher Secondary education completed, but only from the State or CBSE Board, on the basis of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, in aggregate.

Ques: Are there any other criteria for VITEEE?

Ans: There is an age limit, but that will be specified by the University. Also, if the candidate has done diploma, they will not be allowed to apply for VITEEE. And the attempts made to crack VITEEE are only once.

Ques: Is there any reservation for students?

Ans: Need at least 50% aggregates in the above-mentioned subjects. Same criteria apply to North-Eastern students.

Ques: What is the syllabus for VITEEE 2020 exam based on?

Ans: It will be based on class 12th syllabus in PCMB section. Various topics such as electromagnetic induction, energy and power, to name a few, will be in Physics, whereas, thermodynamics, electro-chemistry will be included in Chemistry.

Ques: What will the questions be based on in Biology, Mathematics and English?

Ans: Biology section will deal with genetics & evolution, taxonomy, health & disease, etc., whereas Math will see questions on probability and vector algebra, among other things. English will, as usual, see pronunciation and comprehension.

Ques: What questions can candidates expect in the Aptitude section of VITEEE 2020 Exam?

Ans: It is a much newer section of the VITEEE 2020 question paper. However, as the name suggests, the questions will literally be food for thoughts. So, just hone your aptitude and appear for the exam.

Ques: Which is the best branch at VIT? Which campus is better?

Ans: As deduced by student reports and views, many prefer branches related to Computer Science engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, among others. More often than not, students prefer the Vellore campus, obviously, because it is the oldest campus and equally the best, as compared to others.

Ques: Can I get placement chances if I study in Vellore Institute of Technology?

Ans: The University does offer a good option of placements, and that too in prestigious and good companies, with decent enough packages. One can check the University website to know more about it.

Ques: Does VITEEE offer NRI quota?

Ans: No, there is no dedicated quota for NRI’s admission and therefore no special admission process for them; it is all open for them. However, PIO/OCI candidates must have taken education in schools located in India in the preceding two years.
