IBSAT 2020 is an entrance exam for gaining admission to Postgraduate Programmes at 9 ICFAI colleges. As per the IBSAT 2020 Exam Pattern, it is a 2 hour duration test in which candidates have to attempt 140 multiple choice questions. The IBSAT 2020 Exam pattern comprises four sections- Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Data Adequacy and Data Interpretation and Reading Comprehension. One of the salient features of the test is that there is no sectional time limit and negative marking.

Application Forms for IBSAT 2020 are expected to be released in July 2020 in both online and offline mode. If you wish to fill the form through offline mode, then you will be required to purchase it from IBS Marketing offices and pay an amount of INR 1800. There is no age limit for candidates willing to apply for the exam. 

  • IBSAT 2020 will be conducted in centers located in about 94 cities across the country. 
  • It is a gateway for admission to MBA/ PGPM courses of 9 campuses in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Dehradun, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Pune.
  • Mumbai Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) Business School also accepts IBSAT Scores.
  •  It will be conducted by the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education. Around 50,000 students appear for the entrance test each year.

Maximum number of questions are from the Verbal Ability section that is 50, essential of vocabulary and English proficiency form part of it. Reading comprehension has 30 questions on passages. Mathematical skills have a larger emphasis on arithmetic. Analytical skills of the candidate are tested in Data adequacy and interpretation.

IBSAT 2020 Exam Pattern - Syllabus

The students stated that sections on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension were easy while the sections on Quantitative Aptitude and Data Adequacy and Data Interpretation were moderately difficult.

  • The Verbal Ability section has the highest marks and is the most scoring section. It had questions based on vocabulary and grammar.
  • The Reading Comprehension section had 4 passages. 30 questions were asked from 4 passages. There were 3 passages with a word length of more than 500 words. 8 questions were asked from each of them. One passage was of more than 400 words and 6 questions were asked from it. Most of the questions were direct and easy to answer.
  • In the section on Quantitative Ability, the difficulty level of questions ranges from Easy to Moderate.
  • In the section on Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency, 15 questions are based on Data Interpretation while 15 are on Data sufficiency. The difficulty level was moderate.

IBSAT 2020 Exam Pattern Preparation Tips

Go through the IBSAT 2020 exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly and then start with the preparation. Start with the topics that you have a good hold on and work on perfecting those sections, then move to the sections that you are less proficient in. A good and thorough preparation will guarantee a good score. Most of the questions are analytical and require a good analysis. There are no questions based on General Knowledge in IBSAT 2020 unlike many other entrance exams. Some of the tips for preparation are given below:

Section wise preparation: For the section on reading comprehension, practice reading more and try solving reading comprehensions. Practicing more will lead you to more accuracy. The sections on Data Interpretation require a good analysis while the section on Quantitative Aptitude will require more and more practice. A good hold on vocabulary will help you solve the section on Verbal Ability.

Manage your time well: Time management is the main aspect to be looked after by the students preparing for IBSAT 2020. You should divide your time equally between the four sections and start with the preparation. Prepare a time- table and stick to it. Remember that this time is very crucial and it will not come back.

Work on Weakness: Work on your weaknesses and for increasing your speed and accuracy as they are the key to success. Focusing on weaker areas will also help in improving concepts and thus, building up confidence.

Practice Sample Papers and Mock Test: Taking mock tests is a good way to develop exam temperament. This will also prepare you for managing time in the final exam and give you a fair idea of the IBSAT 2020 Exam pattern of questions. Solve the sample papers given on various online websites. This will help in understanding the level of questions that are asked in the exam. Carefully notice your mistakes and work on them and try not to repeat them.

Time and Break: Spending more time on preparation would not guarantee good rank. But the quality of time spent on studies would make the difference. Thus, students should take short breaks between study sessions in order to freshen up their mind and start studying after the decided break time.
