Vijay Sales August 2026 collage - the Carrier Flexicool 5 Star and 3 Star 1.5 tonne split air conditioners, a Samsung 189L 5 Star direct cool refrigerator and an LG 55-inch NanoCell television
Zoutons Picks — Vijay Sales, August 2026

Five brands list the identical 1.5 tonne machine in both trims. Godrej charges Rs. 3,980 for the two extra stars; Daikin charges Rs. 12,300. Twenty-three picks.

Prices & codes last verified August 4, 2026

The short of it Vijay Sales' own listing pages, 108 rows read on August 4. Godrej charges Rs. 3,980 to go from 3 Star to 5 Star. Daikin charges Rs. 12,300 for the same two bands. The deepest badge in the read, 60 per cent, is on a 3 Star machine. One refrigerator in 27 is 5 Star - in the category that never switches off.

Every August the same argument happens in Indian living rooms: the cheaper air conditioner or the efficient one. It is normally impossible to answer properly, because retailers rarely stock the same machine in both trims and you end up comparing a 3 Star from one brand against a 5 Star from another. Vijay Sales, on August 4, 2026, happened to stock five such pairs. We pulled four category slugs from the retailer's own listing pages - air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and washing machines - across two pages each, kept the 108 listings that returned a price, a stated MRP and an image, and read the BEE star rating out of each title, which is where Vijay Sales prints it. Five brands list the identical 1.5 tonne machine in both 3 Star and 5 Star. And the price of those two extra bands is nothing like consistent. Godrej charges Rs. 3,980. Voltas charges Rs. 8,509. Bluestar charges Rs. 9,500. Carrier charges Rs. 9,700. Daikin charges Rs. 12,300 - three times the Godrej figure for exactly the same upgrade on the same shelf on the same day. The discounts are no help in seeing this, because they are almost identical across the divide: Voltas' 3 Star is 44 per cent off and its 5 Star is 41, Bluestar's are 37 and 36. Sorting by badge would place these machines side by side and tell you nothing about the only difference that matters. Across the whole AC rack, 18 of 27 listings are 3 Star at a median 38 per cent off and the seven 5 Star listings sit at 36 - and the single deepest discount in all 108 listings, 60 per cent, is on a 3 Star machine. Then there is the finding we did not expect. An air conditioner runs a few hundred hours a year; a refrigerator runs 8,760. Efficiency ought to matter more in the fridge aisle than anywhere on the shop floor. Vijay Sales' refrigerator rack contains one 5 Star listing in 27 - against seven 3 Star, eight 2 Star and eleven that print no star at all. And the television rack, 27 listings deep and dense with specification, names panel type, processor, HDR format and operating system while mentioning power consumption exactly nowhere. Our July read on pricing the spec rather than the badge is the same method on another retailer's appliances, per cent versus rupees covers why the percentage misleads on large purchases, and paying more for the motor makes the efficiency argument at the other end of the price range. Vijay Sales publishes no ratings on any of these listings, and we have not used any of these machines.

Every price below was pulled from Vijay Sales on August 4, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Vijay Sales coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

Five rules for buying a star rating

First: size the machine to the room before you argue about stars, because an undersized air conditioner runs continuously and never reaches its rated efficiency anyway. In this pull the step from 1 tonne to 1.5 tonnes cost about Rs. 5,000 in Voltas' 3 Star range while the step from 3 Star to 5 Star at 1.5 tonnes cost Rs. 8,509 - so the capacity you actually need is the cheaper decision, and it is the one to get right first. Second: compare within a brand, not across the shelf. The whole reason this page exists is that five brands happened to stock both trims of the same machine; where you cannot do that, a 5 Star from one manufacturer and a 3 Star from another differ in too many ways for the star rating to be the variable you are isolating. Third: work out the payback with your own numbers rather than ours. Our estimate - roughly Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000 a year saved by a 1.5 tonne 5 Star over a 3 Star - assumes about 1,600 running hours and Rs. 8 a unit, and both of those are yours to change. At three hours a night the Daikin's Rs. 12,300 may never pay back; at twelve hours a day the Godrej's Rs. 3,980 pays back in a single summer. Fourth: ignore the percentage on large appliances, which is the argument we made at length in per cent versus rupees and which this rack demonstrates twice over - a 25 per cent Godrej 3 Star at Rs. 34,190 is cheaper than a 37 per cent Bluestar 3 Star at Rs. 38,490. Fifth, and least glamorous: check the service network in your city before you check anything else. An air conditioner needs annual servicing and eventually a gas refill, a refrigerator eventually needs a compressor, and a brand with no technician near you is the most expensive option on the page whatever its sticker says. Vijay Sales publishes no ratings or reviews on any of these 108 listings, so the shop floor gives you nothing to judge that on - our read on the brands you actually know is the closest thing to a shortcut.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: 85 of the 108 listings. The entire washing-machine rack, 27 listings at a median 30 per cent off, is left out of the picks and used only in the methodology - 17 of its 27 listings are 5 Star and none of them pairs with a lower-star sibling of the same model, so it has nothing to add to this page's argument even though it is the best-starred category on the shelf. Among air conditioners we left out 13 of 27, including the Lloyd 1.5 tonne 3 Star at Rs. 34,990, the Panasonic 1 tonne and 1.5 tonne 3 Stars at Rs. 32,290 and Rs. 36,490, the Mitsubishi Electric 3 Star at Rs. 48,490 and the second Daikin 5 Star listing at the identical Rs. 49,790, all of which repeat points the seated machines already make. On refrigerators we seated four of 27 and left out the LG 630L at Rs. 1,81,390, the LG 610L French Door at Rs. 1,27,000 and the LG 650L at Rs. 87,000 - all 3 Star, all large, all making the same point as the Godrej 600L we did seat - along with the eleven listings that print no star rating in the title at all, which are described in chapter four rather than seated. On televisions we seated three of 27 for a chapter that is really one observation, and left out everything from the Rs. 3,09,990 Sony 85-inch downwards. Nothing was excluded for being a bad product.

What we look for

We read one retailer's listing pages on one day and matched pairs by hand

On August 4, 2026 we pulled four category slugs from Vijay Sales' own AEM listing pages - air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and washing machines - across two pages each, and kept every listing that returned a price, a stated MRP above that price and an image. That gave 108 deduplicated rows. We then read the BEE star rating out of each product title, which is where Vijay Sales prints it, and matched listings that shared a brand, a capacity and a feature description but differed in star rating. Five such pairs exist in the air-conditioner rack at 1.5 tonnes: Godrej at a Rs. 3,980 gap, Voltas at Rs. 8,509, Bluestar at Rs. 9,500, Carrier at Rs. 9,700 and Daikin at Rs. 12,300. We are confident these are genuinely comparable machines because the titles describe the same feature sets, and we are open about the limit of that method: we did not open the product pages to confirm that the two Carriers share a model line beyond what the title says.

The star rating is on the listing; the number behind it is not

Vijay Sales prints a BEE star rating in the title and does not publish the ISEER figure it derives from, nor the annual energy consumption. That matters because the star bands are wide and are periodically revised - two machines can both be 3 Star and sit some distance apart within the band, and a 5 Star machine certified under an older schedule is not equivalent to one certified under a newer one. So nothing on this page ranks two star ratings against each other numerically, and where we discuss what a band upgrade is worth we have used the published band definitions and said so. If the efficiency difference is the thing deciding your purchase, the ISEER number is what you want, and it is on the manufacturer's own specification sheet rather than on this retailer's listing.

The running-cost arithmetic on this page is an estimate, and here are its assumptions

Where we say a 1.5 tonne 5 Star saves roughly Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000 a year over a 3 Star, that figure assumes about 1,600 running hours a year - which is roughly eight hours a day across a six-month Indian cooling season - and a domestic tariff of about Rs. 8 a unit, applied to the difference between the current BEE band definitions for split air conditioners. It is an estimate we have constructed, not a measurement we have taken and not a figure any listing on this page publishes. It moves substantially with your actual usage, your state's tariff and slab structure, your room's insulation and how well the machine is sized to it. Someone running an AC three hours a night in Bangalore and someone running one twelve hours a day in Nagpur should reach opposite conclusions from the same Rs. 9,700. We have shown the assumptions so you can redo the sum with yours.

No ratings anywhere, nothing tested, and service is the cost nobody prints

Vijay Sales published no rating and no review count against any of the 108 listings we read, so no pick on this page carries a rating pill and we have not imported a score from a marketplace listing of the same model to fill the gap. We have not used, installed, run or handled any appliance here. Feature names quoted - Flexicool, DUAL Inverter, NanoCell, Neofresh, 6-in-1 convertible, 100 per cent copper condenser - are the manufacturer's or the retailer's own listing wording, reported and not endorsed. Statements of category convention, such as window units being louder in-room than splits, fixed-speed compressors being less efficient than inverters, undersized ACs running continuously, or refrigerators drawing power every hour of the year, reflect general category understanding rather than testing. And the largest cost this page cannot show you is service: an air conditioner needs annual maintenance and eventually a gas top-up, and a brand with no technician in your city is expensive whatever the sticker says. Installation charges, warranty terms, service coverage and return windows should all be confirmed with Vijay Sales before you order.

FAQs

Is a 5 star AC worth the extra money over a 3 star?

It depends almost entirely on how many hours a year it runs, and on this shelf it also depends enormously on which brand you pick. In our August 4, 2026 read of Vijay Sales, the same 1.5 tonne machine in 3 Star and 5 Star trim cost Rs. 3,980 more at Godrej, Rs. 8,509 at Voltas, Rs. 9,500 at Bluestar, Rs. 9,700 at Carrier and Rs. 12,300 at Daikin. Our own estimate - built on roughly 1,600 running hours a year, a tariff around Rs. 8 a unit and the published BEE band definitions, and offered as an estimate rather than a measurement - puts the annual saving from the upgrade somewhere around Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000. On those numbers the Godrej upgrade pays back inside two summers and the Daikin one takes four to five years. If your AC runs three hours a night, halve the saving and double the payback. If it runs twelve hours a day in a hot city, the reverse. The honest answer is that the arithmetic is yours to do, and the brand you choose changes it more than most people expect.

Which 1.5 ton AC is cheapest at Vijay Sales right now?

In our August 4, 2026 read, the Carrier 1.5 Ton 3 Star Flexicool 6-in-1 at Rs. 33,490 was the cheapest 1.5 tonne split, followed by the Godrej 1.5 Ton 3 Star at Rs. 34,190. The single cheapest split AC of any capacity was a Sansui 1 Ton 3 Star at Rs. 28,490, and the biggest discount in the entire read was a Sharp 1.37 Ton 3 Star at Rs. 29,990, marked 60 per cent off a stated Rs. 74,990. For 5 Star machines the floor was an LG 1.5 Ton 5 Star DUAL Inverter Window AC at Rs. 40,990, with the cheapest 5 Star split being the Godrej at Rs. 38,170. All of these are 3 Star except where stated, prices change without notice, and Vijay Sales publishes no ratings on any listing so none of this is a judgement about how well any of them work. We have not used any of them.

Why do most refrigerators only have 2 or 3 stars?

We can report what is on the shelf and be careful about explaining it. Of 27 refrigerator listings we read at Vijay Sales on August 4, 2026, exactly one was 5 Star, seven were 3 Star, eight were 2 Star and eleven printed no star rating in the title at all. That is a striking distribution for the one appliance in the house that never switches off. Part of the explanation is structural: BEE revises its star bands periodically and refrigerator bands have been tightened, so machines that were 4 or 5 Star under an older schedule are rated lower under the current one without the appliance changing. Part of it is that frost-free double doors - the volume category - simply consume more than direct-cool single doors, which is where the one 5 Star listing sits. What it means practically is that if efficiency matters to you in a fridge, your options on this particular shelf are extremely limited, and the choice may not exist at all in the size you need.

Do televisions have BEE star ratings?

Televisions do fall under a BEE labelling programme in India, but none of the 27 television listings we read at Vijay Sales on August 4, 2026 printed a star rating, an annual energy consumption figure or a wattage in the title. What those titles do print, often in considerable detail, is screen size, panel technology, processor, HDR format, audio standard and operating system. So on this retailer's rack the information exists for air conditioners and refrigerators and simply is not surfaced for televisions. That is worth knowing rather than worth being outraged about - most people do buy televisions on picture and price - but a large panel running several hours a day is not a negligible load, and if it matters to you the figure will be on the manufacturer's specification sheet rather than on the listing you are shopping from.

Does Vijay Sales show customer ratings on appliances?

Not on the listing pages we read. Across all 108 listings in our August 4, 2026 pull - air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and washing machines - Vijay Sales returned no rating and no review count. That is why no pick on this page carries a rating pill, and why we have deliberately not imported a star score from a marketplace listing of the same model, because a rating attached to a different seller's listing is not a rating of this one. The practical consequence is that this page can tell you about price, stated MRP and BEE star rating and nothing whatsoever about reliability, noise, cooling performance or after-sales service - and for appliances at these prices, service network coverage in your own city is arguably the most important variable of all. We have not used, installed or handled any machine here.

More Vijay Sales coverage on Zoutons

How Zoutons picks deals Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every price, stated MRP and discount percentage here was read from Vijay Sales' own listing pages at vijaysales.com on August 4, 2026, and all of them can change without notice. The pull covered four category slugs - air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and washing machines - across two pages each, and kept only listings returning a price, a stated MRP higher than that price and an image, which yielded 108 deduplicated rows. BEE star ratings quoted are read from the product titles, which is where Vijay Sales prints them; the retailer does not publish the ISEER figure or annual energy consumption behind any of them, so no two star ratings on this page are compared numerically and none should be. Star bands are wide and are periodically revised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which means two machines in the same band are not necessarily equivalent and a 5 Star certified under an older schedule is not equivalent to one certified under a newer one. Our matched pairs - Godrej at a Rs. 3,980 gap, Voltas Rs. 8,509, Bluestar Rs. 9,500, Carrier Rs. 9,700, Daikin Rs. 12,300 - pair listings that share a brand, a capacity and a feature description in their titles; we did not open the product pages to confirm the model lines match beyond what those titles state. Where this page estimates a running-cost saving of roughly Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000 a year for a 1.5 tonne 5 Star over a 3 Star, that is our own arithmetic on stated assumptions - approximately 1,600 running hours a year and a tariff of about Rs. 8 a unit, applied to published BEE band definitions - and it is an estimate, not a measurement, not a guarantee and not a figure any listing here publishes. It changes substantially with usage, state tariff and slab, room insulation and how well the machine is sized. Vijay Sales published no rating or review count against any of the 108 listings, so no pick carries a rating pill and we have not substituted a score from another source. We have not used, installed, run or handled any appliance on this page. Feature names quoted are the manufacturer's or retailer's own listing wording, reported and not endorsed. Statements of category convention - that window units are louder in-room than splits, that fixed-speed compressors are less efficient than inverter compressors, that undersized air conditioners run continuously, that refrigerators draw power in every hour of the year - reflect general category understanding rather than testing. Installation charges, warranty terms, service network coverage in your city, gas-refill costs and return windows should all be confirmed with Vijay Sales before you order.
