A discount badge only means something if you know what is normal. We read eleven Vijay Sales category pages on 26 September 2026 — 110 listings in all — and the answer to "what is normal" turns out to depend almost entirely on which aisle you are standing in. Nutri blenders show a median 48 per cent off. Electronic safes show two.

Underneath that sits a simpler rule: the cheaper half of this shelf badges 42 per cent and the dearer half 22, so the percentage is biggest exactly where the rupee saving is smallest. And the mechanism is on the tile if you divide for it — the declared MRP runs 1.93 times the selling price in the deepest-discounting category and 1.02 times in the shallowest.

📅 Update log:
26 September 2026 — first published. 110 distinct listings read from vijaysales.com's own server-rendered category pages for sandwich-toasters, nutri-blender, coffee-machines, popup-toasters, atta-maker, wet-grinders, garment-steamers, dehumidifiers, water-dispensers, electronic-safe and stabilizers, logged out, in India. Category pages paginate client-side, so each returns one screen of server-rendered cards rather than the full range; category medians are computed over what those pages returned on this date.

The discount is a property of the aisle, not the product

We read eleven Vijay Sales category pages on 26 September 2026 — 110 listings, every one with a selling price and a stated MRP — and sorted them by how much discount each category actually displays. The spread is not subtle.

Nutri blenders show a median 48 per cent off. Electronic safes show a median of two per cent. Between those poles sit sandwich toasters at 42, coffee machines at 41, garment steamers at 30, water dispensers at 29, pop-up toasters at 24, atta makers at 23 and stabilizers at 19.

That matters because a shopper's instinct is to read a 45 per cent badge as a good deal and a five per cent badge as a bad one. On this retailer, both numbers mostly tell you which aisle you are standing in. A 30 per cent badge is unremarkable on a blender and exceptional on a safe.

The actual rule: the dearer the category, the smaller the discount

Sort the same 110 listings by price instead of category and the pattern gets simpler. Split at the median price of Rs. 4,799: the cheaper half shows a median 42 per cent off, the dearer half 22 per cent.

The categories at the top of the discount table are the cheap ones — blenders at a median Rs. 2,547, sandwich toasters at Rs. 1,747 — with the conspicuous exception of coffee machines, which are dear (median Rs. 10,499) and still badge at 41 per cent. The categories at the bottom are the expensive ones: safes at a median Rs. 19,494, atta makers at Rs. 19,825, dehumidifiers at Rs. 22,436.

So the badge is largest exactly where the rupee saving is smallest. Forty-eight per cent off a Rs. 2,547 blender is about Rs. 2,350 of declared saving. Two per cent off a Rs. 19,494 safe is about Rs. 400. If you are shopping by percentage, you are being steered towards the cheap end of the shop.

Dearer half of the shelf (55 listings)Rs. 11,09922% off

Why it happens: the declared MRP moves, not the price

The mechanism is visible in the last column of the table above. We divided each listing's stated MRP by its selling price and took the median per category, and that multiple tracks the badge almost exactly: 1.93 times on nutri blenders, 1.74 on sandwich toasters, 1.71 on coffee machines, down through 1.42, 1.33 and 1.24 to 1.02 on safes.

A category does not display a bigger discount because its cash price fell. It displays a bigger discount because its sellers declare a higher MRP against the same selling price. At 1.02x, a safe's seller is telling you the product is worth almost exactly what it charges. At 1.93x, a blender's seller is telling you it is worth nearly twice.

Neither is wrong or unlawful — declaring an MRP above the selling price is legal and ordinary across Indian retail, and we allege nothing about any brand or seller here. But it does mean the percentage is arithmetic over two numbers the seller chose, and it is describing a pricing convention rather than a saving you can bank.

₹ What to do with this. Compare a badge only against its own category's median, not against the shop as a whole. On this retailer that means roughly: 48% is par for a blender, 42% for a sandwich toaster, 30% for a garment steamer, 24% for a pop-up toaster, 19% for a stabilizer and 2% for a safe. Anything well above its category median is genuinely unusual; anything at it is just the aisle's default.

Safes: twenty listings, and barely a discount among them

The electronic safe aisle deserves naming on its own, because it is the clearest case on the shelf. Twenty listings, a median badge of two per cent, a maximum of 18 per cent, and a median declared MRP just 1.02 times the selling price.

One brand dominates the aisle, and the whole range behaves the same way: a Rs. 3,223 key-lock locker at eight per cent, a Rs. 8,799 mechanical safe at 12, a Rs. 11,999 motorised one at 14, a Rs. 16,479 digital one at 18. The largest badge in the entire aisle, 18 per cent, is below the median badge of every other category in this read except stabilizers.

The practical implication is the useful bit: on this aisle there is very little discount to wait for. If you want a home safe, the price you see is close to the price that exists, and a sale that takes 30 or 40 per cent off one would be a genuine outlier rather than the routine event it is two aisles over in the blenders.

What this page does not tell you

It is not a comparison with any other retailer. We read these eleven categories on Vijay Sales only, on one day. Nothing here says Vijay Sales is cheaper or dearer than Croma, Reliance Digital, Amazon or anyone else, because we did not read those shelves for these categories.

It is not a quality judgement. A category that discounts by two per cent is not selling better goods than one that discounts by 48, and vice versa. The multiple we compute describes how sellers in each aisle declare their MRPs, nothing more, and no wrongdoing by the retailer or any brand is alleged or implied.

And there is no rating data at all. None of the 110 listings in this read published a star average or a review count, so nothing on this page is informed by what buyers reported. Nothing was bought, unboxed, plugged in or tested.

Read the badge against its own aisle, and expect nothing from the expensive ones

If you are buying at the cheap end — blenders, sandwich toasters, pop-up toasters — discounts are routine and deep. A blender at less than 48 per cent off or a sandwich toaster at less than 42 is below its aisle's own median on this shelf, which is a more useful benchmark than any absolute number. Coffee machines are the one expensive category that still badges like a cheap one, at a median 41 per cent.

If you are buying a safe, a stabilizer, an atta maker or a dehumidifier, stop waiting. Those four categories showed median badges of 2, 19, 23 and 25 per cent, and the safe aisle's very best badge across 20 listings was 18 per cent. The declared MRPs there sit at 1.02 to 1.34 times the selling price, so there is not much room in the number for a sale to open up.

What we would not do is compare a badge across aisles. A 30 per cent garment steamer is exactly average for its category while a 30 per cent safe would be the biggest discount in that aisle by a wide margin — the same number meaning opposite things one page apart. And with no ratings published anywhere on these 110 listings, we would treat the badge as the least informative number on the tile and shop the rupee price instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Vijay Sales categories have the biggest discounts?
In our 26 September 2026 read of 110 listings across eleven categories, nutri blenders and mixer grinders showed the deepest median discount at 48% off, followed by sandwich toasters and grillers at 42% and coffee machines at 41%. Garment steamers sat at 30%, water dispensers at 29%, pop-up toasters at 24%, atta makers at 23% and voltage stabilizers at 19%. Electronic safes were last at a median of 2%. The shelf-wide median was 31%.
Do expensive appliances get smaller discounts at Vijay Sales?
On this shelf, yes, and clearly. Splitting the 110 listings at the median price of Rs. 4,799, the cheaper half showed a median 42% off and the dearer half 22%. The categories with the smallest badges were also the most expensive: safes at a median Rs. 19,494 (2% off), atta makers at Rs. 19,825 (23%) and dehumidifiers at Rs. 22,436 (25%). The main exception was coffee machines, dear at a median Rs. 10,499 but still badging 41%.
Are home safes ever discounted at Vijay Sales?
Barely, in this read. Twenty electronic safe and locker listings showed a median discount of 2%, with the largest in the whole aisle at 18% — a Rs. 16,479 digital home safe against a stated Rs. 20,049. Their median declared MRP was just 1.02 times the selling price, meaning sellers list them at close to what they charge, so there is structurally very little room for a percentage. If you want a safe, waiting for a deep sale on this evidence is unlikely to pay.
Why do some Vijay Sales categories show 48% off and others 2%?
Because the difference is in the declared MRP, not the price. We divided each listing's stated MRP by its selling price: the median multiple runs from 1.93x on nutri blenders down to 1.02x on safes, and it tracks the badge almost exactly. A category displays a bigger discount when its sellers declare a higher MRP against the same cash price. Declaring an MRP above the selling price is legal and commonplace in Indian retail; it just means the percentage describes a pricing convention rather than a measured saving.
Does Vijay Sales show customer ratings on appliances?
Not on any of the 110 listings we read across these eleven category pages — zero published a star average or a review count. That is what these server-rendered category pages returned on 26 September 2026 and it may differ on individual product pages. The practical effect is that on this shelf the discount badge is the loudest number available, which is unfortunate given that, as this page shows, it is mostly telling you which aisle you are in.

Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every selling price and stated MRP here was read on 26 September 2026 from vijaysales.com's own server-rendered category pages for sandwich toasters, nutri blenders, coffee machines, pop-up toasters, atta makers, wet grinders, garment steamers, dehumidifiers, water dispensers, electronic safes and voltage stabilizers, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased. 110 distinct listings returned both figures. These category pages paginate client-side, so each returns one screen of server-rendered cards rather than the retailer's complete range; every count, median and comparison on this page therefore covers the listings those pages returned on that date rather than Vijay Sales' full catalogue, and three of the eleven categories are represented by fewer than six listings each, which is stated in the table and should be weighed accordingly. The wet grinder category returned a single listing and no median should be read into it. An MRP is the figure the listing displays and we have not verified that any product sold at it, so every percentage and every multiple on this page is arithmetic over two numbers the seller chose rather than a measured saving; stating an MRP above the selling price is legal and commonplace across Indian retail, and no wrongdoing by Vijay Sales or by Godrej, Native by Urban Company, Blue Star, Balzano, V-Guard, AMFAH, Wonderchef, Morphy Richards, Havells, Hafele, Philips, Bajaj, Preethi, Panasonic, Lucky or any other brand or seller named or unnamed is alleged or implied. Grouping declared MRP multiples by category describes how sellers in each aisle set their listed MRPs on this one date; it is expressly not a comparison of quality, build, durability or value between categories, brands or products, and a category that displays a small discount is not thereby selling better or worse goods than one that displays a large one. This page compares categories within one retailer only. We did not read these categories on any other retailer, and nothing here claims that Vijay Sales is cheaper, dearer or better value than any competitor. None of the 110 listings published a star average or a rating count, which is what these category pages returned on this date and may differ on individual product pages; nothing on this page is informed by customer reviews. Product photographs are the listings' own images as published on vijaysales.com, which are the sellers' presentation and not an indication of what is supplied. Capacities, wattages, lock types and every other description quoted is the listing's own printed text, reproduced as printed and not verified. Nothing on this page was bought, unboxed, installed, plugged in or tested, and no claim about performance, security, safety or durability is made or implied - in particular, nothing here should be read as an assessment of any safe or lock's security. Prices change without notice and can differ at checkout after coupons, bank offers, exchange offers, extended warranty or delivery and installation charges; the price shown at your checkout prevails over anything here.
