Comparison pages usually founder on the fact that two retailers stock different things. Not this time: Urban Company's Native range is on both shelves under the same model names, which makes this one of the cleanest like-for-like reads we have managed. The Native M1 is Rs. 15,999 at Vijay Sales and Rs. 15,999 on Flipkart, against the same stated Rs. 20,999, at the same 24% badge.
So the price is not the story. The story is that Flipkart shows 4.5 stars from 15,077 ratings on that machine and Vijay Sales shows nothing - as it does on all 27 of its listings. Below: both matched models, the real size of the discount gap once Flipkart's sub-Rs. 5,000 tier is set aside, and what neither shop publishes.

The same machine, the same price, on both shops
Urban Company's Native range is the one place these two shelves genuinely overlap, and the result is unusually clean. The Native M1 - a 10-stage machine with an 8-litre tank - sells for Rs. 15,999 on both, against a stated MRP of Rs. 20,999 on both, wearing a 24% badge on both. Price, MRP and percentage are identical to the rupee and the point.
One difference remains, and it is the whole of this page's argument: Flipkart shows 4.5 stars from 15,077 ratings on that listing. Vijay Sales shows nothing at all. Not a lower rating, not fewer ratings - no star average and no count, on that listing or on any of the other 26 we read.

The M2 Pro pair is the more instructive of the two. Both shops charge exactly Rs. 19,499. They declare different MRPs - Rs. 28,999 and Rs. 26,999 - so the badge reads 33% on one and 28% on the other for an identical amount of money. Five percentage points of apparent generosity, produced entirely by the number each retailer chose to strike through.
The two listings also state different storage capacities for the same model name: 8 litres and 7 litres. We report what each listing published on 27 September 2026 and draw no conclusion about which is correct - a spec line can be stale, a variant can differ, and we did not open a box.
If you are buying a Native machine, this is the whole decision: the price is the same on both shops, so buy wherever your warranty, installation and returns are easiest - and read Flipkart's rating count before you commit, because it is the only published buyer evidence that exists for these machines on either shelf.
Why Flipkart's discounts look twice as big (and mostly aren't)
Read whole, the two shelves look wildly different. Flipkart's 21 listings carry a median badge of 72%; Vijay Sales' 27 carry a median of 29%. A 43-point gap would be an extraordinary thing for one retailer to sustain, and it is not what is happening.
The gap is a catalogue difference, not a pricing one. Twelve of Flipkart's 21 listings sell under Rs. 5,000 - 15 to 18 litre gravity and RO machines from names most shoppers will not recognise, declaring MRPs of Rs. 16,500 to Rs. 24,999 and therefore wearing badges of 72% to 86%. Vijay Sales stocks exactly one machine under Rs. 7,000. That entire tier is where Flipkart's median comes from.

Strip out the cheap tier and compare like with like. At Rs. 7,000 and above, Flipkart's median badge is 40% and Vijay Sales' is 28% - the gap falls from 43 points to 12. Flipkart's median price in that band is also lower, Rs. 13,999 against Rs. 17,474, but that reflects a catalogue that stops at Rs. 19,499 while Vijay Sales' runs to Rs. 27,000.
So Flipkart does badge more aggressively at the premium end too - but by twelve points, not forty-three. Anyone quoting the headline figure at you is comparing a Rs. 3,600 unbranded 18-litre machine against a Rs. 20,000 Aquaguard.
The sub-Rs. 5,000 tier on Flipkart, and why we are not recommending it
Twelve of the 21 Flipkart listings sell under Rs. 5,000. Read on 27 September 2026, the cheapest four were:
- Rs. 1,295 — a 16 L non-electric gravity mineral pot against a stated Rs. 2,999 (57%), 3.8 stars from 6,125 ratings
- Rs. 3,382 — a 12 L RO + UV + copper machine against a stated Rs. 24,999 (86%, the largest badge in either read), 4.5 stars from 4 ratings
- Rs. 3,599 — an 18 L RO + UV + UF + copper machine against a stated Rs. 20,000 (82%), 3.9 stars from 3,189 ratings
- Rs. 3,608 — an 18 L machine against a stated Rs. 16,500 (78%), 3.9 stars from 141,938 ratings — the largest rating count in either read by a wide margin
Two things to hold together. These are real prices with real, and in one case enormous, rating counts behind them — 141,938 people is not a rounding error, and we are not going to dismiss a tier because it is cheap. But the star averages in this tier cluster at 3.8 to 4.1, against 4.2 to 4.5 on the Rs. 10,000-plus machines, and an 86% badge on a Rs. 3,382 machine is arithmetic over a stated Rs. 24,999 that nobody can verify anyone ever paid.
What we cannot tell you is whether any of these machines purifies water adequately for your supply. We did not buy, install or test a single one, and no listing on either shelf publishes a performance figure. That is a question for a test of your own water and a qualified installer, not for a price page.
What each shop publishes, and what it doesn't
- Flipkart publishes ratings on everything. All 21 listings carry a star average and a count, median 12,411, largest 141,938. Eight of the 21 state a purification-stage count.
- Vijay Sales publishes ratings on nothing. Zero of 27. That matches what we have found on its other shelves, and it means the spec strip is the entire evidence base there.
- Vijay Sales states stage counts more often. 21 of its 27 listings print one, against 8 of Flipkart's 21 - and stage counts are the headline spec on almost every one of these boxes.
- Neither publishes what matters most. No listing on either shelf states a tested purification performance, a TDS reduction figure, a real filter life in litres, or the annual service cost. Those are the numbers that decide whether a purifier was a good buy, and no retailer here prints them.
How to use these two shelves together
The practical method is short. Find the model on Flipkart for the rating count, then check the price on both - on the two models stocked by both, the price was identical to the rupee, so the ratings are free information rather than something you pay for.
If the machine you want is only on one shelf, the thing to compare is the money and the stated specification, not the percentage. Two listings at the same Rs. 19,499 on this page wear badges of 33% and 28% purely because the retailers declared different MRPs. Where a badge is the only difference between two listings, the badge is the thing that is different - not the deal.
And decide RO on your water before you decide it on price. On the Vijay Sales shelf one model name appears as a UV machine at Rs. 8,999 and as an RO machine at Rs. 14,990 with the same 6-litre tank, which prices that decision at Rs. 5,991 exactly. What your supply actually needs is a question for a test of it.
What we would actually do
For a Native machine, buy on service, not price. The M1 is Rs. 15,999 on both shops with the same stated MRP and the same 24% badge, and the M2 Pro is Rs. 19,499 on both. There is no price decision to make. Read Flipkart's 15,077 ratings on the M1 before you commit, then buy wherever installation, warranty registration and returns are simplest for you.
For anything else above Rs. 10,000, start on Flipkart for the evidence. Every listing there publishes a rating count and none of Vijay Sales' 27 do. On a purchase that gets plumbed into a wall and serviced annually, a published crowd of 12,411 people is worth more than a twelve-point badge difference that is really a difference in stated MRPs.
What we would not do: read the 72%-versus-29% headline as a verdict on either retailer. It is a catalogue difference. Flipkart stocks a sub-Rs. 5,000 tier that Vijay Sales does not, and that tier declares MRPs of up to Rs. 24,999 on machines selling for Rs. 3,382. Compare the same price band and the gap is twelve points. We would also not spend Rs. 20,000-plus on any listing on either shelf without evidence from outside it, because neither publishes a single tested performance figure.

Is a water purifier cheaper on Flipkart or Vijay Sales?
On the two models both shops stock, the price was identical when we read them on 27 September 2026: the Native M1 was Rs. 15,999 on both and the Native M2 Pro Rs. 19,499 on both. Why are Flipkart water purifier discounts so much bigger?
Because of what Flipkart stocks, not how it prices. Flipkart's median badge was 72% and Vijay Sales' 29% in our read - but Flipkart's figure is produced by a sub-Rs. 5,000 tier of 15-18 litre machines from unfamiliar brands declaring MRPs of Rs. 16,500 to Rs. 24,999. Compare only machines at Rs. 7,000 and above and the medians are 40% on Flipkart and 28% at Vijay Sales - a twelve-point gap, not forty-three. A badge is arithmetic over a stated MRP, so a bigger badge is not the same thing as a lower price.
Does Vijay Sales show customer ratings on water purifiers?
No. All 27 Vijay Sales listings in our read published no star average and no rating count, while all 21 Flipkart listings published both - median count 12,411, largest 141,938. That is each retailer's own behaviour rather than a gap in our reading. It is the single most useful difference between the two shelves: on the Native M1, the listings are identical in price, MRP and badge, and only Flipkart tells you that 15,077 people rated it 4.5.
The same purifier shows different discounts on each site. Which is right?
Both are, and neither tells you anything. The Native M2 Pro sold for exactly Rs. 19,499 on both shops when we read them. Vijay Sales declared an MRP of Rs. 28,999, giving a 33% badge; Flipkart declared Rs. 26,999, giving 28%. The money you pay is identical; only the struck-through number differs. An MRP is a figure the seller displays, and we have not verified that any machine sold at either one. The two listings also stated different storage capacities - 8 L and 7 L - which we report as published without concluding which is correct.
Should I buy a Rs. 3,500 water purifier from Flipkart?
We cannot tell you, and we would be careful of anyone who says they can from a price page.
