What we skipped — and why

What we left out, and why: 75 of the 99 listings. The iron aisle is the largest here at 25 listings and the most repetitive - Philips and Havells each return five or six steam irons within a few hundred rupees and a few hundred watts of one another - so we seated the extremes and the ones that make a point rather than the whole rail. The same applies to the vacuum aisle's 26 listings, where Shark and Eureka Forbes both offer several cordless sticks within Rs. 5,000 of each other; we seated the Dyson set because its badges tell a story the others repeat quietly. Two identical Nuuk travel steamers appear at the same Rs. 2,899, and we seated neither. We also passed most of the air purifier aisle, which is a winter category doing monsoon service. Nothing was excluded for being inconvenient: the 3 per cent Dyson listings, the 24 per cent wardrobe dehumidifier and the duplicate vacuum pair are all seated. All 99 listings remain in every count, median and range quoted above.

What we look for

Seven category pages a monsoon actually sends you to

On August 8, 2026 we read seven Vijay Sales category pages chosen because a wet month is what drives people to them - garment steamers, irons, geysers and water heaters, dryers, dehumidifiers, air purifiers and vacuum cleaners - and kept every listing returning both a selling price and a stated MRP. That produced 99 listings, which is the denominator for every count on this page. Vijay Sales renders roughly 27 product cards per category server-side and paginates the rest client-side, so this is one page of each aisle rather than the complete catalogue, and every range here carries that limit.

Badges were converted into rupees before anything was ranked

The page is organised around a comparison the percentages hide. The deepest badge in the pull, 69 per cent on a Rs. 1,849 garment steamer, saves Rs. 4,150. A 26 per cent badge on a Rs. 21,590 tumble dryer saves Rs. 7,500, and a 44 per cent badge on a Rs. 49,990 dryer saves Rs. 40,000. Dryer or dehumidifier for the monsoon?

They solve different halves of the same problem and this page prices both. A tumble dryer takes water out of clothes: a load comes out dry in a couple of hours regardless of the weather, and nothing hangs indoors adding humidity to the room. A dehumidifier takes water out of the air: it protects walls, wood, leather and stored clothes from mould, and it makes indoor drying faster as a side effect rather than as its purpose.
