Everyone checks the delivery date on a Flipkart listing. Almost nobody checks who made it. Flipkart's own shipping page is explicit that the estimate is the seller's — which is why the same product shows different dates from different sellers, and why the honest answer to “how long does Flipkart take” is a pin code rather than a number.

Below: what each of the nine stock tags actually means for your wait, when In Stock turns into a fortnight by India Post, the Rs. 50,000 cash-on-delivery ceiling, and who pays when something has to go back.

7 Sep 2026 — first published, from flipkart.com/pages/shipping and flipkart.com/pages/payments as served to a logged-out visitor on 7 September 2026. Flipkart can amend these pages at any time and individual sellers set their own timelines and delivery charges, so we re-read both pages and log any change to the stock tag definitions, the COD ceiling or the delivery rules here.

The delivery date is the seller's, not Flipkart's

The date on a Flipkart product page reads like a promise from Flipkart. It is not. Flipkart's own shipping page describes it as the seller's timeline: sellers “generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page”, and the estimate depends on three things — the seller offering the product, whether that seller actually has it, and how far that seller sits from your address.

Which is why the same product can show different dates on the same day. Flipkart addresses this directly: you have probably noticed varying delivery times between sellers of a product you are looking at, and that is because availability, the seller's geography, your destination and the local delivery partner's speed all feed the number. Changing seller changes the date — and on a marketplace, the cheapest seller is not always the nearest one.

There is a blunter version of this. Some addresses are not served at all, and not always for infrastructure reasons: the page says sellers at times prefer not to ship to certain locations, entirely at their discretion. Legal restrictions on particular products and the absence of a reliable delivery partner are the other two reasons given.

The practical instruction Flipkart repeats three times on that page is the same one: enter your pin code on the product page. Serviceability and timing are answered by the pin code, not by the listing. If you have not entered one by checkout, the pin code in your shipping address is used instead.

What people assumeWhat Flipkart's shipping page says
Who sets the delivery date? The seller — Flipkart says items are procured and shipped within the time specified on the product page
Why two sellers differDelivery time depends on the seller, that seller's stock, the seller's location and your destination
What counts as a business dayPublic holidays and Sundays are excluded; some partners and sellers do not work Sundays
Why the date slipped by a dayA holiday falling between order and delivery adds a day to the estimate
Why your area is not servedThe seller may not ship there, legal restrictions may apply, or no reliable delivery partner covers it
Can a seller refuse an area?Yes — the page says sellers sometimes prefer not to ship to certain locations, entirely at their discretion

The stock tag is a delivery estimate in disguise

Nine different tags appear on Flipkart listings, and they are not decoration — each one carries a different delivery consequence. The gap between the best and worst case is not days, it is weeks.

“In Stock” is not one timeline. Where standard delivery runs, it is usually 2–3, 4–5 or 4–6 business days by pin code. But in areas without that service, Flipkart says orders go by Registered Post through the Indian Postal Service, which may take 1 to 2 weeks. The same tag, the same product, a fortnight apart depending on where you live.

“Imported” means at least 10 days, sometimes more, because the seller sources it from outside India. “Available” is the quiet one: the seller does not have the item and will procure it after you order, so the wait is procurement plus shipping. And four tags that people read as interchangeable are not — Out of Stock and Temporarily Unavailable may return, while Permanently Discontinued and Out of Print will not.

Listing tagWhat it means for your delivery
In StockSeller states the time by pin code — usually 2–3, 4–5 or 4–6 business days where standard delivery runs. Elsewhere it ships by Registered Post via India Post and can take 1–2 weeks
AvailableThe seller does not hold the item but can procure it once you order. Time = procurement time + shipping time
Preorder / ForthcomingNot released yet. Ships on the official release day and reaches you in 2–6 business days
ImportedSourced from outside India. At least 10 days, often more
Back In Stock SoonPopular and sold out, but you can book it now; it ships to the seller's stated timeline
Out of StockNot available for sale right now. Use Notify Me
Temporarily UnavailableOut of stock and not purchasable, but it could return
Permanently DiscontinuedObsolete or production stopped — it is not coming back
Out of PrintNo longer published and permanently discontinued

Cash on delivery stops at Rs. 50,000 — and may not reach you at all

Cash on delivery has two limits people meet at checkout rather than before it. The first is the amount: the maximum order value for a COD payment is Rs. 50,000. The second is stricter than it sounds — it is strictly a cash-only method. Gift cards and store credit cannot be used on a COD order, and foreign currency is not accepted. Indian rupees, in cash, at the door.

The second limit is geographic and it is not Flipkart's to set. Whether COD appears depends on the delivery partner serving your pin code being able to accept cash there, and those partners carry their own ceilings on how much cash they will handle by destination. So COD can vanish either because of where you are or because your basket is too expensive for the local limit — which is why the page again tells you to check the pin code on the product page.

On charges, Flipkart's payments page is unambiguous about the product price: there are no hidden charges, prices are final and all-inclusive, and what you see on the product page is what you pay. Delivery is the exception it names — delivery charges may be extra depending on the seller's policy, so the individual seller is the thing to check. (The page still illustrates this with a Rs. 50 charge waived above Rs. 500 for the seller WS Retail, a legacy entity; we quote the general rule rather than that figure.)

And one boundary that catches gift-buyers abroad: Flipkart does not deliver internationally. You can pay with cards issued in India and 21 other countries, but the delivery address has to be in India.

Cash on delivery and chargesWhat Flipkart's pages say
Is there a COD limit?Yes — a maximum order value of Rs. 50,000
What can you pay with?Cash only, in Indian rupees. No gift cards, no store credit, no foreign currency
Why is COD missing for you?The delivery partner covering your pin code may not accept cash, or your order value exceeds their cash limit
How do you check?Enter your pin code on the product page before ordering
Are delivery charges extra? They may be — the page says charges depend on the seller's policy, so check the individual seller
Does Flipkart ship abroad? No. Cards from India and 21 other countries are accepted, but the delivery address must be in India

If it goes wrong: pick-ups, missing parcels and who pays

Two things on this page are worth knowing before you need them. The first is who pays to send something back. Where possible Ekart Logistics collects the item; where Ekart cannot, you may return it through a third-party service. Either way, Flipkart states that return fees are borne by the seller. You initiate the return by contacting Flipkart and receive a call explaining the process.

The second is a deadline that is easy to miss. If you get a delivery confirmation SMS or email for a parcel that never arrived, you must report it within 7 days of the delivery confirmation for the seller to investigate. Waiting to see whether it turns up next week is precisely the wrong move.

Note that this page governs shipping. What you can actually claim once a product arrives — refund, replacement, or a trip to the brand's service centre — is set by the separate returns policy, where the category and brand decide the remedy.

🚚 The one habit worth forming. Set your default pin code on Flipkart once. Every question this page answers — how long it takes, whether the seller ships to you, whether COD is offered, whether it goes by courier or India Post — is answered by the pin code on the product page, before you add anything to the cart.
How this page was read, and what it does not tell you

Everything on this page comes from Flipkart's own published pages, read on 7 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India: the Shipping page at flipkart.com/pages/shipping for delivery timelines, the factors affecting them, business-day treatment, serviceability, stock tag definitions, return pick-up arrangements, the 7-day non-delivery reporting window and the no-international-delivery statement; and flipkart.com/pages/payments for the Rs. 50,000 cash-on-delivery ceiling, the cash-only conditions and the statement that prices are all-inclusive while delivery charges may vary by seller. Every timeline, tag definition and limit is quoted or paraphrased without adjustment.

What that means for what you can conclude. We read the published pages only: we did not place an order, track a shipment, request a pick-up, report a missing parcel or contact customer support, so nothing here reports how any of these timelines performs in practice, how any particular seller or delivery partner behaves, or what any customer's experience has been. Delivery estimates are seller commitments on a marketplace and vary by seller, product, pin code and day; the estimate shown to you on the product page at the time of ordering is the operative one, not anything on this page. We do not publish a delivery-charge amount because Flipkart does not publish a general one — it states that charges depend on the seller's policy. The payments page still carries legacy references, including a delivery charge tied to the seller WS Retail and mentions of Flyte; we have flagged rather than repeated these as current, and readers should treat the checkout screen as authoritative. Terms change without notice, so verify on flipkart.com before ordering. Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here limits or describes your rights under Indian consumer law. This page does not cover the returns and replacement policy, Flipkart Plus, SuperCoins, EMI or bank offers, each of which carries separate terms. No wrongdoing by Flipkart is alleged or implied.

The short version

The date belongs to the seller. Delivery time depends on which seller you buy from, their stock and their distance from you — which is why two sellers of the same product show different dates. Sellers may also decline to ship to a location entirely at their discretion.

“In Stock” can mean two weeks. Usually 2–6 business days where standard delivery runs, but Registered Post through India Post — 1 to 2 weeks — in areas without it. Imported means at least 10 days.

COD caps at Rs. 50,000, cash only. No gift cards, store credit or foreign currency, and it may not be offered at your pin code at all. Flipkart does not deliver outside India. Return pick-up fees are borne by the seller, and a parcel marked delivered but never received must be reported within 7 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Flipkart take to deliver?
It depends on the seller and your pin code, not on Flipkart alone. For items marked In Stock, sellers state the time by pin code — typically 2–3, 4–5 or 4–6 business days in areas with standard delivery service. In areas without it, Flipkart says orders are sent by Registered Post through the Indian Postal Service and may take 1 to 2 weeks. Items marked Available must be procured by the seller first, so the wait is procurement plus shipping; Imported items take at least 10 days; and Preorder items ship on the official release day and arrive in 2–6 business days. Business days exclude Sundays and public holidays, and a holiday between order and delivery adds a day to the estimate. Enter your pin code on the product page for the timeline that actually applies to you.
Why do two sellers show different delivery dates for the same product?
Because the estimate is the seller's, not a single Flipkart-wide figure. Flipkart's shipping page says delivery time is influenced by product availability with that seller, the seller's geographic location, your shipping destination and the delivery partner's time-to-deliver in your area. A seller holding stock closer to you will quote a shorter date than one who must procure the item or ship it across the country. On a marketplace this means the cheapest listing is not always the fastest, so it is worth comparing the date alongside the price before choosing a seller.
What is the Flipkart cash on delivery limit?
The maximum order value for a cash-on-delivery payment is Rs. 50,000. It is strictly a cash-only method: gift cards and store credit cannot be used on a COD order, and foreign currency is not accepted — only Indian rupees. Separately, COD may not be offered at your address at all. Flipkart says availability depends on whether the delivery partner servicing your location can accept cash, and those partners set their own cash limits by destination, so a high-value order can fall outside the local limit even where COD normally works. Enter your pin code on the product page to check before ordering.
Does Flipkart charge for delivery?
It can, and Flipkart does not publish one universal figure. Its payments page states there are no hidden charges on the product itself — listed prices are final and all-inclusive, and the price on the product page is exactly what you pay — but adds that delivery charges may be extra depending on the seller's policy and directs you to check the individual seller. The page still illustrates this with a legacy example tied to the seller WS Retail, where a Rs. 50 delivery charge was waived on orders of Rs. 500 and above; treat that as an illustration rather than a current universal rule, and read the delivery charge shown at checkout for your actual order.
Does Flipkart deliver outside India?
No. Flipkart states plainly that it does not deliver items internationally. You can shop on the site from anywhere in the world and pay with credit or debit cards issued in India and 21 other countries, but the delivery address must be in India. That makes Flipkart usable for sending gifts to family in India from abroad, but not for shipping anything to yourself overseas. Note also that internationally issued cards cannot be used for wallet and gift-voucher top-ups.
