Amazon India sells three Prime memberships, not one. They promise you the same parcel and a very different screen.
📅 Update log:
4 November 2026: first published. Read from Amazon India's own "Amazon Prime Membership Benefits" help page, logged out, from India. The three-tier split, the Prime Video device limits, the 30-day swap rule dated 20 January 2025 and the category exclusions are quoted as they stood on that date. Amazon states it "may change these benefits occasionally".
Amazon India does not sell one Prime membership. Its own benefits page sets out three: Prime Membership, Prime Lite Membership and Prime Shopping Edition Membership. We read that page on 4 November 2026, logged out, from India.
The delivery half of all three is written out in almost identical language — free delivery to eligible addresses, One-Day, Two-Day, Scheduled and Same-Day options, discounted delivery charges, and "No minimum order value required for FREE Standard Delivery" on every tier. So if you subscribe to Prime purely to stop paying delivery fees, the page describes the three tiers the same way.
The entertainment half is where they come apart, and Amazon says so outright: "If you have chosen a Prime Shopping Edition membership plan, you will not be able to access Prime Video, Music, reading, and Amazon Luna benefits."
This page quotes no membership price, because Amazon's benefits page states none. It links out to a separate "The Amazon Prime Membership Fee" page for that. What follows is purely a reading of what each tier includes and excludes, in Amazon's own published words.

The delivery benefits are the same across all three
Taken benefit by benefit, the shopping side of the page repeats itself. All three tiers list "Free Delivery to eligible addresses", "One-Day Delivery, Two-Day Delivery, Scheduled Delivery and Same-Day Delivery", discounted delivery charges, and "No minimum order value required for FREE Standard Delivery."
All three also list the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card benefit in the same words: "Eligible Prime members earn 5% cashback on Amazon.in purchases", with digital and gift-card purchases "exempt because they earn 2% back". All three list Prime Early Access — "Early access to Lightning Deals" and "Exclusive Lightning Deals and Deals of the Day for Prime members".
And all three list Prime Advantage: "No Cost EMI: Smartphone purchase with lower monthly installments" and "6 months Free Screen Replacement (in case of screen damage) by Acko at no extra cost".
One caveat sits only on Shopping Edition, and it is Amazon's own note: "Same-Day delivery is available for free with Prime Shopping as a limited time offer. Amazon reserves its right to modify this at its discretion." That sentence does not appear against the other two tiers.
Where the three tiers actually differ
| Benefit | Prime | Prime Lite | Prime Shopping Edition |
|---|
| Free delivery to eligible addresses | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| One-Day, Two-Day, Scheduled, Same-Day delivery | Yes | Yes | Yes — Same-Day is "a limited time offer" |
| No minimum order value for free standard delivery | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Amazon Pay ICICI Bank card — 5% cashback | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Prime Early Access and exclusive Lightning Deals | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Prime Advantage — No Cost EMI, 6-month screen replacement | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Prime Video | Up to 5 devices, incl. up to 2 TVs | 1 device, HD, with ads; no web browsers | Not included |

Prime Video is the dividing line. On full Prime the page describes "Unlimited video streaming ... with ads" and adds: "You can stream on up to 5 devices (including up to 2 TVs)."
On Prime Lite the same benefit is described as being "across 1 device in HD quality with ads", and the page adds a restriction that is easy to miss: "If you have chosen a Prime Lite membership plan, you will be not be able to access Prime Video on web browsers." The Prime Lite entry names only the Android and iOS apps.
On Shopping Edition, Prime Video is simply not a benefit. Amazon states it twice: the tier "will not be able to access Prime Video, Music, reading, and Amazon Luna benefits", and "Prime digital benefits, including access to Prime Video, Prime Music, E-books and Amazon Luna are not available with Prime Shopping Edition." You can still "rent select titles and sign-up for subscriptions" separately, which is what any non-member can do.
If more than one person in the house watches on more than one screen, the device limits are the number to check before the price. Full Prime is described as up to 5 devices including up to 2 TVs; Prime Lite as 1 device, in HD, with ads, and not on a web browser. A household that watches on a TV and a phone at the same time is outside what the Prime Lite entry describes.
The 30-day device-swap rule on full Prime
Full Prime's device allowance is not a free-for-all, and the page dates the rule precisely:
"You can stream on up to 5 devices (including up to 2 TVs). You can remove, and replace, up to 2 existing devices in any 30 day period, with effect from 20 January, 2025."
So the cap is on registered devices, and the churn is capped too — two swaps in any thirty days. If you change phones, sell a TV or travel with a borrowed tablet, those swaps come out of the same allowance. The page points to the Amazon Prime Video Terms and Conditions for the full rules and for the list of compatible devices, and this page does not reproduce them.
Amazon also reserves the right to move all of this: "We may change these benefits occasionally, as in our Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions." Everything described here is the position on 4 November 2026.
Four exclusions worth reading before you subscribe
First, not every product is covered. "Amazon Prime benefits don't extend to all items, specially items belonging to the large appliance and furniture categories." If the reason you are subscribing is a fridge or a sofa, that is the sentence to read twice.
Second, the fast-delivery promises are geographic. "Guaranteed One-Day, Two-Day, Same-Day, and Scheduled Delivery are only offered in select cities on eligible items", and "Some items are not available for one-day and two-day delivery due to special packaging or handling requirements. Instead they receive free standard delivery."
Third, you cannot gift it. "The option to gift Prime membership is currently unavailable on Amazon.in."
Fourth, it is not for resellers. "Amazon Prime isn't available for customers who purchase products for the purpose of resale or use Prime free delivery to deliver products to their customers or potential customers."
How to choose between the three
- Start with what you actually want. If it is delivery only, the page describes the delivery benefits of all three tiers in the same words — so the cheapest tier is the one to price up.
- If you want Prime Video on a TV, read the device lines. Full Prime is described as up to 5 devices including up to 2 TVs; Prime Lite as 1 device, HD, with ads, and not on web browsers.
- If you want Prime Reading, Amazon Music or Amazon Luna, only full Prime lists them. Amazon states outright that Shopping Edition excludes Prime Video, Music, reading and Luna.
- Check the category before you subscribe for one purchase. Prime benefits "don't extend to all items, specially ... large appliance and furniture".
- Check that your city gets the fast speeds. Guaranteed One-Day, Two-Day, Same-Day and Scheduled delivery are "only offered in select cities" on eligible items.
- Do not plan to give it to someone else. Gifting a membership is "currently unavailable on Amazon.in".
- Get the price from Amazon's own fee page. The benefits page states no price, and this page quotes none.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Amazon Prime and Prime Lite in India?
On Amazon's own benefits page the delivery benefits are described identically and the entertainment benefits are not. Both tiers list free delivery to eligible addresses, One-Day, Two-Day, Scheduled and Same-Day delivery, no minimum order value for free standard delivery, 5% Amazon Pay ICICI cashback, Prime Early Access and Prime Advantage. The split is Prime Video: full Prime is "up to 5 devices (including up to 2 TVs)", while Prime Lite is "across 1 device in HD quality with ads" and "you will be not be able to access Prime Video on web browsers". Prime Reading, Amazon Music and Amazon Luna appear only in the full Prime list. Read 4 November 2026; Amazon states it "may change these benefits occasionally".
Does Amazon Prime Shopping Edition include Prime Video?
No, and Amazon says so twice on the same page. "If you have chosen a Prime Shopping Edition membership plan, you will not be able to access Prime Video, Music, reading, and Amazon Luna benefits." And: "Prime digital benefits, including access to Prime Video, Prime Music, E-books and Amazon Luna are not available with Prime Shopping Edition." You can still "rent select titles and sign-up for subscriptions through the Prime Video website", but that is a separate purchase. Shopping Edition keeps the delivery benefits, including Same-Day — which Amazon describes as "a limited time offer" it "reserves its right to modify ... at its discretion".
How many devices can you use with Amazon Prime Video in India?
Up to five on full Prime, one on Prime Lite. Amazon's page states: "You can stream on up to 5 devices (including up to 2 TVs). You can remove, and replace, up to 2 existing devices in any 30 day period, with effect from 20 January, 2025." So both the number of registered devices and how often you can swap them are capped. Prime Lite is described as streaming "across 1 device in HD quality with ads", with no web-browser access — only the Android and iOS apps are named. Shopping Edition has no Prime Video at all.
Do Amazon Prime benefits apply to every product on Amazon.in?
No. "Amazon Prime benefits don't extend to all items, specially items belonging to the large appliance and furniture categories." Separately, the fast-delivery promises are geographic and conditional: "Guaranteed One-Day, Two-Day, Same-Day, and Scheduled Delivery are only offered in select cities and available only on eligible items", and some items "are not available for one-day and two-day delivery due to special packaging or handling requirements" and get free standard delivery instead. Eligible items carry the Prime logo on the product page.
Can you gift an Amazon Prime membership in India?
No, as the page stands. "The option to gift Prime membership is currently unavailable on Amazon.in." The same section also excludes a second group: "Amazon Prime isn't available for customers who purchase products for the purpose of resale or use Prime free delivery to deliver products to their customers or potential customers." This page quotes no membership price for any tier, because Amazon's benefits page states none — it points to a separate membership-fee page, which is where to check what each tier costs today.

Every benefit described, paraphrased or quoted on this page was read from Amazon India's own "Amazon Prime Membership Benefits" page at amazon.in/gp/help/customer/display.html on 4 November 2026, logged out, from India, with nothing bought. This page is a plain-English reading of a published help page. It is not legal advice, it is not a complete account of the Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions or the Prime Video Terms of Use, and it must not be relied on in place of the live page. No membership price is quoted here for any tier, because the benefits page states none — Amazon publishes fees on a separate page. Where this page says a benefit is "not listed" for a tier, that means it does not appear in that tier's list on this page; where Amazon states an exclusion in its own words, the quotation is given. Amazon states: "We may change these benefits occasionally", and eligibility, device rules and city coverage can change without notice. Nothing here alleges wrongdoing by Amazon — selling tiered memberships with different benefits is ordinary practice.
