A bag of dry pet food states its weight. It does not state what a kilo costs. We read 58 listings on 27 October 2026 from Amazon's own search results and divided the 34 dry bags that publish a weight.
Dry food runs Rs. 110 to Rs. 1,813 a kilo, median Rs. 252. One brand sits at a median Rs. 997 and another at Rs. 150. Cat food costs nearly five times dog food by weight. And the wet food, deliberately, is not in these figures at all - here is why.
📅 Update log:
27 Oct 2026: first published. Every selling price, weight and rating count on this page was read from amazon.in's own search results on 27 October 2026, logged out, from India. Per-kilo figures cover only the 34 dry-food listings whose own titles state a single pack weight; all 20 wet-food listings are excluded because their titles state a pouch weight and a pack count separately. Nothing was bought, opened or fed to an animal.

This page excludes all 20 wet-food listings from its per-kilo figures, on purpose. Their titles state a pouch weight and a pack count as separate numbers - "80g Pack of 5, Total 400g", "Pack of 12 (12x85g)" - and Amazon's search titles truncate, so the pack count is exactly the part that disappears. Dividing a twelve-pouch case price by a single 80 g pouch produces figures like Rs. 29,750 a kilo, which is an arithmetic error, not a finding. We are naming it rather than publishing it, because it is the most common way a per-unit price read goes wrong.
The cheapest kilos: Rs. 110 to Rs. 174
Seven of the eight cheapest kilos on this shelf are bags of 2.4 kg or more, and four are 6 kg or more. The floor is a 10 kg bag at Rs. 1,101 - Rs. 110 a kilo - and it is also one of the more expensive single tiles in the read.
That is the inversion worth noticing: the Rs. 1,101 bag is a tenth the rate of a Rs. 432 one. A shopper filtering under Rs. 500 sees the second and never the first.

A rate per kilo is not a judgement on the food. Breed-specific, grain-free, veterinary and life-stage formulations are priced differently from general-purpose kibble for reasons of ingredient and formulation that no price figure captures, and we have not assessed the nutritional content of anything on this page. Brand medians here are computed over one to eight listings each and describe this read, not the brands in general.
Dry cat food costs nearly five times dry dog food
Split the 34 weighted dry listings by animal and the gap is large: 27 dry dog food listings at a median Rs. 225 a kilo, against 7 dry cat food listings at a median Rs. 1,080.
Part of that is composition - cats are obligate carnivores and their food carries more animal protein - and part is simply which brands stock which aisle: six of the seven weighted cat listings in this read are from one premium label. We report the gap and do not claim to have isolated its cause.
Three checks before buying pet food on Amazon
One: divide by the weight, and read the pack count. "2 x 1.2 kg" is 2.4 kg, and on wet food the title may show one pouch weight for a case of twelve. If the number looks absurd, the pack count is what you missed. Two: compare within a formulation. A breed-specific bag at Rs. 950 a kilo and general-purpose kibble at Rs. 150 are not substitutes, and the rate alone will not tell you that.
Three: buy the size you will actually finish. The cheapest rates here are 6 kg and 10 kg bags; dry food has a limited life once opened and storage matters. Nothing on this page is veterinary advice. Diet for an animal with a medical condition, or for a puppy or kitten, is a question for a vet, not for a price table. Prices change without notice - check the live listing before buying.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does dry dog food cost per kilo on Amazon in 2026?
Across 27 dry dog food listings read on 27 October 2026 from Amazon's own search results, the median was Rs. 225 a kilo. The cheapest was a 10 kg bag at Rs. 1,101 - Rs. 110 a kilo - and the dearest a 1.5 kg grain-free bag at Rs. 2,719, or Rs. 1,813 a kilo. Across all 34 weighted dry listings, dog and cat, the range was Rs. 110 to Rs. 1,813 at a median of Rs. 252.
Is cat food more expensive than dog food on Amazon?
By weight, substantially. In this read dry cat food ran a median Rs. 1,080 a kilo against Rs. 225 for dry dog food - nearly five times. Part of that is composition, since cats are obligate carnivores and their food carries more animal protein, and part is which brands stock the aisle: six of the seven weighted cat listings here came from one premium label. We report the gap without claiming to have isolated its cause.
Is a bigger bag of pet food cheaper per kilo?
On this shelf, clearly. Seven of the eight cheapest kilos are bags of 2.4 kg or more and four are 6 kg or larger; every one of the eight dearest kilos is 4 kg or smaller. A 10 kg bag at Rs. 1,101 works out at a tenth the rate of a 400 g bag at Rs. 432. The caveat is practical rather than financial: dry food has a limited life once the bag is open, so the cheapest rate is only cheap if you finish it.
Why can't wet cat food be compared per kilo on Amazon?
Because the weight in the title is usually one pouch and the price is for a case. Titles in this read read "80g Pack of 5, Total 400g" and "Pack of 12 (12x85g)", and Amazon's search titles truncate at around 90 characters - so the pack count is exactly the part that falls off. Dividing a case price by a single pouch produces figures like Rs. 29,750 a kilo. All 20 wet-food listings are excluded from the per-kilo figures on this page for that reason.
Which pet food brand is cheapest per kilo on Amazon?
In this read, the budget dry-food labels. LICKICIOUS at Rs. 110 a kilo, Purepet at a median Rs. 150, Meat Up at Rs. 165, Drools at Rs. 200 and Pedigree at Rs. 230. At the other end, Royal Canin's eight listings ran a median of Rs. 997 a kilo. These are medians over one to eight listings each and describe this read rather than the brands in general. A rate per kilo is not a judgement on nutrition, which we have not assessed.
Prices & codes last verified: October 27, 2026
Every selling price, stated weight, star average and rating count on this page was read from amazon.in's own search results on 27 October 2026, logged out, from India, with nothing bought. Nothing was purchased, delivered, opened, weighed or fed to an animal, and no claim is made about ingredient quality, protein content, digestibility, palatability, shelf life, manufacturing standards or suitability for any individual animal. Nothing on this page is veterinary advice. Diet for an animal with a medical condition, and for puppies, kittens and senior animals, is a question for a qualified veterinarian; breed-specific, grain-free, veterinary and life-stage formulations are priced differently for reasons no rate per kilo captures, and a higher price per kilo is not evidence of worse value. Every per-kilo figure is our own arithmetic: the selling price divided by the pack weight the listing's own title states, and a stated weight is the listing's claim and not a verified measurement. All 20 wet-food listings in the read are excluded from these figures because their titles state a per-pouch weight and a pack count separately and Amazon's search titles truncate; dividing a case price by one pouch produces false rates, which is why none appear here. Brand medians are computed over groups of one to eight listings and describe this read rather than any brand's pricing in general. The 58 listings were reached by Amazon's own search and are not a census of what Amazon sells - results vary by query, ranking, login state, pin code and time of day. Nothing here alleges wrongdoing by Amazon or by any brand or seller named. Prices change without notice and cart-level coupons and subscribe-and-save rates are not visible in this data - check the live listing before buying.
