Nyrika is the read's largest seller with eighty listings and a median badge of 78%, and its Rs. 3,999 MRP appears on ten garments selling between Rs. 280 and Rs. 1,280. Here is the honest framing. Rs. 280 does not buy Banarasi silk; Banarasi silk is a handloom craft whose real floor is several thousand rupees, and the listing's own words are "Banarasi Silk Saree" describing what is near-certainly a woven poly-blend in a Banarasi motif. As a Rs. 280 printed saree for a festival afternoon, it is cheap and probably fine. As a Rs. 3,999 saree you got for Rs. 280, it is a story the sticker is telling. What it means practically: at this price the fabric is a thin printed poly, the stitching is fast, and the honest expected life is a season of regular wear rather than years. That is not a criticism so much as a specification. A lehenga choli set with dupatta is the most fabric and the most construction in this whole category, so Rs. 4,234 being the top of a 443-listing read tells you how compressed the online ethnic market has become — the ceiling here is what a single good saree costs in a shop. The Rs. 15,329, meanwhile, is a number with a decimal-place quality to it: not round, not a price band, and not a figure any marketplace lehenga has sold at. Judge this the way we have judged everything else. Rs. 4,234 for an embroidered flared lehenga with a dupatta, from a marketplace seller, is roughly what such things cost online, and it is the same money as the SOCH three-piece two picks up with a returns counter behind it. Seven times the money, for the single piece of an outfit with the least construction in it. We are including it because the comparison is instructive rather than because we would make it.
