We ran the same three washing-machine searches on Amazon and Flipkart on 26 August 2026 and lined up every machine we could match on brand, drum capacity and machine type. Eighteen pairs matched. Twelve of them cost exactly the same to the rupee - not similar, identical.
On the six that differ, the direction never changes: Flipkart is cheaper on all six and Amazon on none, by Rs. 1,149 to Rs. 3,896. But those same six are the pairs whose listing text describes different feature sets, so at least some may be different models rather than the same machine at two prices - and we have flagged every row rather than claim a saving we cannot prove.

Every price on this page read today from amazon.in and flipkart.com search results using the same three queries on each store: semi automatic washing machine, washing machine top load 7 kg and washing machine front load. Amazon returned 43 usable listings and Flipkart 121. We re-run this comparison monthly and log every matched pair whose price moves on either side.
The Short Answer: Twelve Identical Prices, Six Gaps, All One Way
We ran the same three searches on both stores on 26 August 2026 and matched every machine we could on brand, drum capacity and machine type. Eighteen pairs matched. Twelve of them are identical to the rupee. A Bosch 9 kg front loader is Rs. 34,690 on both. A Midea 8 kg front loader is Rs. 24,490 on both. Four Samsung semi-automatics, three LG machines and two Whirlpools all land on exactly the same figure at both stores.
The other six differ, and the direction never varies: Flipkart is cheaper on all six, and Amazon on none. The gaps run from Rs. 1,149 on a Whirlpool 7 kg top loader to Rs. 3,896 on an LG 10 kg semi-automatic, Rs. 13,248 in total. That is a real pattern and it comes with a real caveat, which the next section sets out before the table does any persuading.
How these pairs were matched, and why it matters. Neither store prints a manufacturer model number reliably in its listing title, so the match key here is brand + capacity + machine type, not model. On the twelve level pairs the two titles describe closely matching feature sets, which is consistent with one machine listed twice. On the six pairs where prices differ, the feature text also differs - Amazon's LG 7 kg front loader says 'DD Technology, Steam Wash, 6 Motion DD' where Flipkart's says 'Allergen free with Steam, Inverter Direct Drive'. Those may be the same machine described differently, or two models sharing a brand, a capacity and a type. We cannot tell from the listings, so we have flagged every row and we are not claiming those six as guaranteed savings.

Read the last column with the fourth. Every row marked Titles match closely is a level price. Every row marked Feature text differs is a row where Flipkart is cheaper. The correlation is complete across all eighteen pairs, which is itself the most interesting thing in the table - because it suggests the two stores genuinely do agree on price when they are unambiguously selling the same machine, and the apparent Flipkart discounts sit exactly where the identification is weakest.
That does not make the six gaps fake. The Whirlpool 7 kg Magic Clean 5 Star fully automatic top loader is Rs. 16,240 on Amazon and Rs. 15,091 on Flipkart, and the two titles are near word-for-word identical including the model line - that one looks like a genuine Rs. 1,149 difference on the same machine. It does mean you should check the model number on the product page before assuming the other five are the same object.
The Shelf-Level View: Price Per Kilogram of Drum
Matched pairs only cover machines both stores happen to list. The wider question is what a kilogram of laundry capacity costs on each shelf overall, so we divided every listing's price by the capacity stated in its own title and took the median for each machine type.

Flipkart's median is lower in all three categories - Rs. 286 a kilogram lower on semi-automatics, Rs. 271 on top loaders and Rs. 486 on front loaders. Taken alone that reads as a straightforward win. It should not be, and here is why: the same three queries returned 121 usable listings on Flipkart against 43 on Amazon, so Flipkart's sample is roughly three times deeper in every category.
A deeper sample reaches further down the price ladder on its own, with no pricing difference required. Amazon's semi-automatic shelf actually contains the single cheapest kilogram we found anywhere - Rs. 588, on a VW 8.5 kg washer-only - which is well below Flipkart's cheapest at Rs. 956. So the medians describe the shape of what each search returns, not a verdict on which store is cheaper. The matched pairs above are the more reliable evidence, and they say the two stores mostly agree.
The practical order of operations. Identify the exact model you want, including the model number from the product page rather than the listing title. Then check that model number on both stores. On twelve of our eighteen matched pairs you will find the same figure and the decision comes down to delivery date, installation and exchange offer rather than price.
What we could not compare, and why
Ten Amazon listings and a larger number of Flipkart listings state no machine type in the title - not the words semi-automatic, top load or front load anywhere - and were excluded from both the matched pairs and the per-kilogram medians, because assigning a type by inference would be our claim rather than the store's. That removed some significant machines from the comparison, including a Godrej Smart Choice 7 kg at Rs. 15,490 and a Samsung 7 kg Eco Bubble at Rs. 18,690 with 5,864 ratings on the Amazon side.
We also dropped three Amazon listings that are not washing machines but which a capacity parser reads as though they were: a Rs. 347 machine COVER stating 6 kg, a Rs. 1,299 adjustable machine stand rated to 350 kg, and an IFB 9/6/3 kg washer-dryer whose three capacities make a single per-kilogram figure meaningless. And we did not compare delivery charges, installation fees, exchange values, extended warranty pricing or bank offers, all of which move the real total and none of which is visible in a search result.
Where Each Store Is Genuinely Stronger
- Flipkart, on breadth. The identical three searches returned 121 usable listings against Amazon's 43. If you are still deciding what to buy rather than pricing a chosen model, that is three times as much shelf to read.
- Amazon, on the bottom end. The cheapest kilogram of laundry capacity we found on either store is on Amazon - a VW 8.5 kg washer-only at Rs. 4,999, which is Rs. 588 a kilogram against Flipkart's cheapest at Rs. 956. Amazon's semi-automatic shelf reaches lower even though its median is higher.
- Neither, on the machines they clearly share. Twelve of eighteen matched pairs are priced identically to the rupee, which means for two thirds of this comparison the store you choose changes nothing about what you pay.
- Both, unpredictably, on what is not in the price. Delivery timing, installation, exchange value and card offers are not in any figure on this page and routinely move a large-appliance total by more than the Rs. 1,149 to Rs. 3,896 gaps we found. Price the whole basket at checkout on both, not the listing.
The Verdict: Check the Model Number, Then Check Both
On the evidence of eighteen matched machines read the same morning, Amazon and Flipkart are not meaningfully different on washing machine prices. Twelve of the eighteen are identical to the rupee, and that is the headline finding rather than the six gaps.
Where they do differ, it is always Flipkart that is cheaper - six times out of six, Rs. 13,248 in aggregate - which is a consistent enough direction to be worth two minutes of your time before you buy. But those same six are the pairs where the two listings describe different feature sets, so at least some of them are likely to be different models rather than the same machine at two prices.
The reliable move is not to pick a store. It is to find the model number on the product page, search it on both, and then compare the delivered, installed, post-exchange total rather than the number in the search result.

Why is Flipkart's median price per kilogram lower if most prices are identical?
Because the two figures are measuring different things. The matched-pair comparison looks at the same machine on both stores. The per-kilogram median looks at the whole shelf each search returned - and the same three queries returned 121 usable listings on Flipkart against 43 on Amazon. A sample three times deeper naturally reaches further down the price ladder and pulls a median with it, whether or not any individual machine is priced differently. The clearest proof that the medians are not a verdict is that Amazon holds the cheapest kilogram we found on either store: Rs. 588 a kilogram on a VW 8.5 kg washer-only at Rs. 4,999, against Flipkart's cheapest at Rs. 956. Amazon's shelf reaches lower and its median is higher, which is exactly what a smaller, differently weighted sample looks like.
How do I know the two listings are the same washing machine?
You largely cannot from the search results, which is the main limitation of this comparison and the reason every row on the table carries a match-quality column. Neither store prints a manufacturer model number reliably in the listing title, so we matched on brand, drum capacity and machine type. On the 12 pairs priced identically, the two titles describe closely matching feature sets. On the six that differ, the feature text diverges - Amazon's LG 7 kg front loader lists 'DD Technology, Steam Wash, 6 Motion DD' where Flipkart's lists 'Allergen free with Steam, Inverter Direct Drive'. Those could be one machine described two ways or two different models. The fix takes a minute: open the product page on either store, find the model number in the specification block - it is always there even when it is not in the title - and search that string on the other store.
Does a semi-automatic really cost a third of a front loader?
Per kilogram of drum capacity, on both stores, yes. Flipkart's median semi-automatic is Rs. 1,284 a kilogram against Rs. 3,713 for a front loader; Amazon's are Rs. 1,570 and Rs. 4,199. So a kilogram of front-load capacity costs roughly two and a half to three times a kilogram of semi-automatic capacity at either store, and the very cheapest semi-automatic kilogram we found - Rs. 588 - is a seventh of the dearest front-load kilogram. The gap is not a markup, it is engineering: a front loader needs a sealed drum, a heavier chassis to absorb high-speed spin, a door interlock and a more capable motor, and in exchange it uses considerably less water and spins clothes far drier. What a semi-automatic costs you instead is labour - you move the wet load from the wash tub to the spin tub by hand on every cycle.
Should I wait for a sale to buy a washing machine?
For a large appliance the sale question matters more than the store question, because the gaps between Amazon and Flipkart in this read - Rs. 1,149 to Rs. 3,896 on six of eighteen machines, and nothing at all on the other twelve - are smaller than the swing a flagship event and a bank offer can produce together on a Rs. 30,000 machine. Both stores run their largest events in the festive window: Flipkart's Big Billion Days and Amazon's Great Indian Festival have historically opened in late September or early October, though as of 26 August 2026 neither has announced its dates. Large appliances also attract exchange bonuses and no-cost EMI during those windows, which are worth more on this category than on most.
