We read the laptop listings each brand's own India store was showing on 31 October 2026 — 12 on hp.com/in-en, 7 on lenovo.com, logged out, from India.
Both print a reference price of roughly double what they actually charge: a median 2.06x on HP and 1.82x on Lenovo, with one gap of Rs. 2,94,559. And neither publishes a single customer rating on any of the 19. This is a small one-day sample from two promotional pages, and every figure here is arithmetic over exactly those listings.
📅 Update log:
31 Oct 2026: first published. Every selling price, stated MRP and discount badge on this page was read from hp.com/in-en and lenovo.com's own India store pages on 31 October 2026, logged out, from India. Medians, multiples and range groupings are our own arithmetic over the 19 laptop listings these two reads returned. Two tablets and one monitor returned by the Lenovo page are excluded. Nothing was bought, delivered, opened or benchmarked.
We read the laptop listings each brand's own India store was showing on 31 October 2026: 12 on hp.com/in-en and 7 on lenovo.com, logged out, from India.
Both stores print a reference price of roughly double what they actually charge. HP's median stated MRP is 2.06 times its own selling price and Lenovo's is 1.82 times. The largest single gap in the read is Rs. 2,94,559 — a gaming laptop selling at Rs. 2,18,999 against a stated Rs. 5,03,401.
Read the sample size before the conclusions. This is 12 HP laptops and 7 Lenovo laptops — the machines each brand's own store was promoting on one day, not a catalogue and not a census. Nothing here is a statement about HP's or Lenovo's pricing generally, and with seven listings on one side a single machine moves the median. Every figure below is arithmetic over exactly these 19 listings.

Why a first-party MRP is different from a marketplace one
On Amazon or Flipkart, a struck-through price is typed by a seller who did not make the product, and we have written about that pattern many times. These two reads are different: the company that manufactures the laptop is printing both the selling price and the reference price on its own website. There is no third party to attribute the figure to.
We report both numbers exactly as each store publishes them. Nothing on this page asserts that any stated MRP is false or improper, or that HP or Lenovo has done anything wrong — publishing a list price alongside a promotional price is ordinary and lawful retail practice. What it does mean for a shopper is that a 65% badge on a manufacturer's own store is not more dependable than a 65% badge anywhere else, and should be read the same sceptical way.

The badge is set by the product range, not by the brand
Line all 19 listings up by range and the two stores behave almost identically. The business and premium lines carry the smallest claims on both sites — HP's ProBook at 1.22x and 18%, Lenovo's Yoga Slim at 1.20x and 16%, ThinkPad at 1.41x and 28%. The mainstream consumer lines carry the largest — HP's OmniBook up to 2.83x and 65%, Lenovo's IdeaPad up to 2.26x and 55%.
That ordering is the useful takeaway, because it is consistent across two independent manufacturers: the deeper the badge, the more of it is coming from the reference figure rather than from the price.
| Range | Brand | Positioning | Stated claim | Badge |
|---|
| HP ProBook | HP | Business | 1.22x | 18% |
| Lenovo Yoga Slim | Lenovo | Premium thin-and-light | 1.20x | 16% |
| Lenovo ThinkPad | Lenovo | Business | 1.41x | 28% |
| Lenovo ThinkBook | Lenovo | Small business | 1.78x | 43% |
| HP OMEN / Victus | HP | Gaming | 1.79x – 2.30x | 35% – 56% |
| Lenovo LOQ | Lenovo | Gaming | 1.83x | 45% |
| Lenovo IdeaPad | Lenovo | Consumer | 2.02x – 2.26x | 50% – 55% |
| HP OmniBook | HP | Consumer | 1.78x – 2.83x | 44% – 65% |
Neither store publishes a single customer rating
Across all 19 laptop listings in this read, there is no star average and no rating count anywhere — not on hp.com and not on lenovo.com. On a Rs. 1,00,000-plus purchase, the brand's own store gives you a specification, a price and a badge, and no indication of what any other buyer thought.
We report that absence as an absence. It is not evidence that the machines are good or bad, and it is not unusual for a manufacturer's direct store. It does mean that if reviews matter to your decision, this is not where you will find them.
What to actually do with these two price lists
Divide the stated MRP by the selling price before you read the badge. Across these 19 listings the figure ranged from 1.20x to 2.83x. At 1.2x to 1.4x the badge is close to a literal reduction; at 2.3x to 2.8x most of the percentage is coming from the number in the strikethrough.
Compare the machines on specification and price, which is all either store gives you. At around Rs. 85,000 this read holds a Lenovo ThinkBook 16 (Ryzen 5, 16GB, 512GB) badged 45% and a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (Core i7, 16GB, 512GB) badged 55%; at around Rs. 72,000 an HP OmniBook 3 badged 59% and 65%. The badges differ by ten to twenty points and the money differs by a few thousand rupees.
Check a third source for reviews, because neither manufacturer publishes any. And check prices on the day: these are promotional prices from one store page on one date, and we have not bought, received, opened or benchmarked a single one of these machines. Nothing here is a claim about performance, battery life, thermals, build or after-sales service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is HP or Lenovo cheaper in India in November 2026?
On the machines each brand's own store was promoting on 31 October 2026, Lenovo's listings were cheaper at the median: HP's 12 laptops ran Rs. 71,452 to Rs. 2,40,990 with a median of Rs. 1,28,749; Lenovo's 7 ran Rs. 82,991 to Rs. 1,40,991 with a median of Rs. 1,00,491. But HP's range extended much higher, into gaming machines above Rs. 2,00,000, which pulls its median up. With 12 and 7 listings this is a small sample from one day, and no specific model appeared on both stores, so it is not a like-for-like comparison.
Why do HP and Lenovo show such big discounts on their own websites?
Because both print a reference price well above what they charge. HP's median stated MRP is 2.06 times its own selling price and Lenovo's is 1.82 times. The largest gap in this read is Rs. 2,94,559 — an HP gaming laptop at Rs. 2,18,999 against a stated Rs. 5,03,401, badged 56%. This is ordinary and lawful retail practice and nothing here alleges wrongdoing by either company, but it does mean a manufacturer's own 65% badge deserves exactly the same scepticism as a marketplace one. Divide the stated MRP by the price and judge from that.
Which laptop ranges have the smallest discounts?
The business and premium lines, on both stores alike. In this read: Lenovo Yoga Slim 1.20x claimed and 16% badged, HP ProBook 1.22x and 18%, Lenovo ThinkPad 1.41x and 28%. The deepest sit on the mainstream consumer ranges: HP OmniBook up to 2.83x and 65%, Lenovo IdeaPad up to 2.26x and 55%. Because the same ordering appears at two independent manufacturers, it is a reasonable rule of thumb: the deeper the badge, the more of it comes from the reference figure.
Do HP and Lenovo show customer reviews on their India stores?
Not on the listings in this read. Across all 19 laptops — 12 on hp.com/in-en and 7 on lenovo.com — there is no star average and no rating count at all. We report the absence as an absence: it says nothing about whether the machines are good, and it is normal for a manufacturer's direct store. It does mean that on a purchase of Rs. 1,00,000 or more you get a specification, a price and a badge, and will need to look elsewhere for what other buyers thought.
How many laptops were in this comparison?
Nineteen: 12 from HP's India store and 7 from Lenovo's. These are the machines each brand's own store was promoting on 31 October 2026, read logged out from India — not a catalogue and not a census of what either sells. Lenovo's page also returned two tablets and a monitor, which are excluded from every laptop figure on this page. With a sample this small a single machine moves the median, so every number here is stated as arithmetic over these 19 listings and nothing more.
Prices & codes last verified: October 31, 2026
Every selling price, stated MRP and discount badge on this page was read from hp.com/in-en's and lenovo.com's own India store pages on 31 October 2026, logged out, from India, with nothing bought. Nothing was purchased, delivered, opened, used or benchmarked, and no claim is made about processor performance, battery life, thermals, display quality, build, upgradeability, warranty or after-sales service. Specifications such as "Core Ultra 5", "16GB RAM", "RTX 3050" and "AI PC" are each store's own published text, reproduced and not verified or tested by us. This is a small sample — 12 HP laptops and 7 Lenovo laptops, read on a single day from promotional store pages. It is not a catalogue, not a census, and not a statement about either manufacturer's pricing generally; with seven listings on one side, one machine materially moves a median. Two tablets and one monitor returned by the Lenovo page are excluded from every laptop figure quoted. No model appeared on both stores, so nothing here is a like-for-like comparison and nothing claims that a given laptop costs more from one manufacturer than the other. A stated MRP is the figure each store prints; we report it and compute badges and multiples from it, but nothing here asserts that any such figure is false or improper, and nothing alleges wrongdoing by HP, by Lenovo, or by any seller named. Publishing a list price alongside a promotional price is ordinary and lawful retail practice, reported here as published fact. Neither store published a star average or rating count on any listing in this read; we report that absence as an absence, which is not evidence about product quality in either direction. Prices change without notice, promotional pages rotate daily, and cart-level or coupon discounts are not visible in this data — check the live listing before buying. Zoutons may earn a commission on purchases made through links on this page; this does not affect what is written above.
