Six HP products priced in this read of HP India's own store - OmniBook and Victus laptops, an OMEN gaming laptop, a DeskJet all-in-one, a Smart Tank printer and a DesignJet large-format printer - shown as they appear in HP's own product photographs

On Amazon or Flipkart, a stated maximum retail price four times the selling price can be put down to a third-party seller filling in a field. On hp.com there is no third party - HP sets both numbers - which is what makes the pattern in its own store worth a page.

We read 24 HP products on 3 October 2026. Its inkjet and large-format printers state list prices of 1.24x to 1.50x what they charge. Its LaserJets, on the same page the same day, state 2.29x to 2.58x. Nothing in the printer aisle falls between those two bands. The effect is that a Rs. 26,599 OfficeJet advertises 19% off and a cheaper Rs. 21,999 LaserJet advertises 61%.

Manufacturer-direct store — HP sets both the price and the stated MRP
📅 Update log:
3 October 2026 — first published. All selling prices, stated maximum retail prices, discount percentages and model numbers were read on 3 October 2026 from HP India's own store at hp.com/in-en/shop (the laptops listing, pages 1 and 2, and the printers listing), logged out, in India, with nothing configured, added to a basket or purchased. Prices on hp.com vary by configuration and change without notice, so this page is a dated snapshot; the price shown at your checkout prevails.

A manufacturer's own store, two completely different list-price habits

Most price pages read a marketplace, where a stated maximum retail price belongs to whichever third-party seller typed it. hp.com is not that. It is HP selling HP, so both numbers on every tile - the price and the stated MRP - are set by the same company.

That makes the following split unusually clean. We read 24 products from HP India's own store on 3 October 2026 and divided each stated MRP by its selling price. Inkjet and large-format printers state list prices between 1.24x and 1.50x what they charge. LaserJet printers, on the same page the same day, state 2.29x to 2.58x. Laptops state 1.54x to 2.83x.

Inkjet & DesignJet printers (7)1.24x – 1.50x19% – 34%DesignJet T650 24-in: Rs. 1,13,600 against a stated Rs. 1,50,237 (1.32x)
LaserJet printers (3)2.29x – 2.58x56% – 61%LaserJet M208dw: Rs. 14,999 against a stated Rs. 34,304 (2.29x)
Laptops (12)1.54x – 2.83x35% – 65%OmniBook 3 14: Rs. 72,999 against a stated Rs. 2,06,414 (2.83x)
Both numbers belong to HP. On Amazon or Flipkart an inflated stated MRP can be attributed to a third-party seller filling in a field. On hp.com the manufacturer sets the list price and the selling price, which is what makes a 1.24x on one printer and a 2.58x on another - same brand, same store, same day - worth printing. Setting an MRP is HP's own commercial decision and nothing here suggests it is improper.

The printer aisle contains both extremes

If you looked only at HP's printers you would conclude this is a conservatively priced store. Six of the ten printers in this read carry badges under 35%, and the four DesignJet large-format machines - the most expensive printers here, from Rs. 79,900 to Rs. 1,77,000 - state the shallowest multiples on the entire store at 1.24x to 1.39x.

Then there are the LaserJets:

  • HP LaserJet M208dw — Rs. 14,999 against a stated Rs. 34,304. 2.29x, a 56% badge.
  • HP LaserJet MFP M233sdw — Rs. 24,885 against a stated Rs. 57,907. 2.33x, a 57% badge.
  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M126nw plus — Rs. 21,999 against a stated Rs. 56,704. 2.58x, a 61% badge — the deepest printer badge here.

Against, on the same page: the OfficeJet Pro 9720 at Rs. 26,599 with a stated Rs. 33,024 - 1.24x and a 19% badge, the shallowest in the whole read. The OfficeJet costs more than two of the three LaserJets and displays a third of their discount.

So on HP's own store a printer's discount badge tells you which product family it belongs to more reliably than it tells you anything about the saving. The three LaserJets are the only printers above 1.50x, and all three are above 2.29x - there is nothing in between.

On laptops, the cheaper the machine the deeper the badge

The twelve laptops run from Rs. 72,999 to Rs. 2,39,999, and the relationship between price and badge runs backwards in a way that is consistent enough to be worth stating.

OMEN Gaming 16-am0076TX — shallowest laptop badgeRs. 1,99,999Rs. 3,08,2661.54x · 35% off

The cheapest laptop in the read carries the deepest badge on the entire store, and the two laptops with the shallowest badges cost Rs. 1,71,399 and Rs. 1,99,999. The two OMEN 16 machines make the point on their own: at Rs. 2,39,999 the badge is 55%, and at Rs. 1,99,999 - the cheaper machine - it is 35%, because the stated MRPs are Rs. 5,35,549 and Rs. 3,08,266 respectively.

The gaps in rupees are large. The OMEN 16-am0201TX is listed Rs. 2,95,550 below its own stated maximum retail price; the HyperX OMEN is Rs. 2,94,202 below its. Four products in this read state a six-figure gap between the two numbers.

Every figure on this page, and exactly where it came from

Read on 3 October 2026 from HP India's own store at hp.com/in-en/shop - the laptops listing (pages 1 and 2) and the printers listing - logged out, in India. Nothing was configured, added to a basket, bought or received. HP renders these listing pages server-side and tags each field with its own data-test-hook attribute, so the selling price, the stated MRP, the discount percentage and the SKU are read directly from HP's markup rather than from any third party.

  • 24 products were returned across the three pages: 12 laptops and 12 printers. Every one of the 24 states both a selling price and a higher MRP.
  • The multiples are ours - each is HP's stated MRP divided by HP's selling price for the same product, to two decimal places. The discount percentages are HP's own displayed figures.
  • The 'inkjet & DesignJet' group is the DeskJet Ink Advantage 2989 and 4388, the Smart Tank 720 and 750, the DesignJet T250, T650 24-in and T650 36-in, plus the DesignJet T830 multifunction and the OfficeJet Pro 9720. The 'LaserJet' group is the M208dw, the MFP M233sdw and the Pro MFP M126nw plus.
  • Prices on hp.com vary by configuration and by any instant-cashback or coupon applied at checkout; these are the listing prices displayed on that date.

What this does and does not mean for a buyer

It does not mean the LaserJets are bad value or that the DesignJets are poor deals - this page compares published numbers, not products. We did not buy, configure, unbox, print from or benchmark anything.

What it does mean is practical: on HP's own store, comparing two products by their discount badges will mislead you, because the badge depends on which product family you are looking at. A 19% OfficeJet and a 61% LaserJet are not 'a bad deal' and 'a great deal' - they are two products whose list prices were set on different bases.

The comparison that survives is price against price, and against what the same machine costs elsewhere. HP sells through Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital and Vijay Sales as well as direct, and a model number - these listings all print one - is the cleanest way to match like with like across them.

How to read HP's own store

Ignore the badge and read the model number. On this store the discount percentage is close to a product-family label: 19-34% means you are looking at an inkjet or a DesignJet, 56-61% means a LaserJet, and 35-65% on a laptop tracks the price inversely - the cheapest laptop in this read carries the deepest badge on the whole store and the Rs. 1,99,999 OMEN carries the shallowest.

The most credibly-priced things here are the large-format printers, where stated MRPs sit at 1.24x to 1.39x and the badges are small - which on a page full of 60% figures is easy to read as the worst offer rather than the most honest list price. Because every HP model here prints a full model number, the useful next step is to take that string to the marketplaces and compare selling price with selling price. We did not test, configure or benchmark any machine on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are HP Store discounts on hp.com real?
The arithmetic is real; what it is arithmetic over varies a lot by product line. In this read of 24 products on 3 October 2026, HP's inkjet and large-format printers stated maximum retail prices of 1.24x to 1.50x their selling price, while its LaserJet printers stated 2.29x to 2.58x and its laptops 1.54x to 2.83x. Since HP is selling its own products direct, both numbers are set by the same company - unlike a marketplace, where a stated MRP belongs to a third-party seller. Setting an MRP is HP's own commercial decision and nothing here alleges any wrongdoing; the practical point is that the badge is not comparable across product families.
What is the cheapest HP laptop on the HP India store?
In this read the cheapest was the HP OmniBook 3 Laptop AI 14-ht0218TU at Rs. 72,999, against a stated MRP of Rs. 2,06,414 - a 2.83x multiple and the 65% badge, which is the deepest discount figure in the whole read. The next cheapest was an OmniBook 3 16-by0091AU at Rs. 88,999. Laptops in this read topped out at Rs. 2,39,999 for an OMEN 16-am0201TX. Prices vary by configuration and change without notice.
Why do HP LaserJet printers show much bigger discounts than HP inkjets?
Because they state much higher list prices relative to what they sell for. The three LaserJets in this read state 2.29x, 2.33x and 2.58x their selling price; the seven inkjet and DesignJet printers state 1.24x to 1.50x. There is nothing in between - no printer here sits between 1.50x and 2.29x. The result is that an OfficeJet Pro 9720 at Rs. 26,599 shows 19% off while a LaserJet Pro MFP M126nw plus at Rs. 21,999 shows 61%, even though the OfficeJet costs more. This describes published fields and is not an allegation of improper pricing by HP.
How much does an HP printer cost in India?
In this read of HP's own store on 3 October 2026, printers ran from Rs. 7,499 for a DeskJet Ink Advantage 2989 all-in-one to Rs. 1,77,000 for a DesignJet T830 24-in multifunction. In between: DeskJet 4388 at Rs. 8,349, LaserJet M208dw at Rs. 14,999, Smart Tank 720 at Rs. 21,999, LaserJet Pro MFP M126nw plus at Rs. 21,999, LaserJet MFP M233sdw at Rs. 24,885, Smart Tank 750 at Rs. 25,999, OfficeJet Pro 9720 at Rs. 26,599, and DesignJet T250 and T650 models from Rs. 79,900 to Rs. 1,57,000.
Is it cheaper to buy HP direct or from Amazon and Flipkart?
This page cannot answer that - we read only HP's own store. What it can tell you is how to check properly: every listing on hp.com prints a full model number (14-ht0218TU, 16-am0201TX, M233sdw and so on), and that string is the reliable way to match the identical configuration on a marketplace, where the same machine often appears under several differently-worded titles. Compare selling price with selling price rather than badge with badge, since - as this page shows - a 61% badge and a 19% badge on the same store can sit on comparably priced machines.

Every selling price, stated maximum retail price, discount percentage, model number and product name reproduced here was read on 3 October 2026 from HP India's own online store at hp.com/in-en/shop - specifically its laptops listing (pages 1 and 2) and its printers listing - logged out, in India. We did not sign in, configure a product, add anything to a basket, reach a checkout, apply any coupon or instant-cashback offer, or buy, receive, unbox, install, configure, print from, run or benchmark any product named here, so no figure on this page is a price we paid and nothing here is a statement about any product's performance, build quality, print quality, running cost, reliability, specification or fitness for any purpose. 24 products were returned across those three pages and all 24 are described; a product sold by HP that did not appear on them does not appear here, and listing pages are paginated and change continuously, so a different reader will not see the same set. The multiples quoted are our arithmetic - HP's stated MRP divided by HP's selling price for the same product - while the discount percentages are HP's own displayed figures. An MRP is the figure the listing displays and we have not verified that any product here was ever sold at it, so every percentage and multiple on this page is arithmetic over two published numbers rather than a measured saving; the observation that HP's stated multiples differ sharply by product line - 1.24x to 1.50x on inkjet and DesignJet printers against 2.29x to 2.58x on LaserJet printers and 1.54x to 2.83x on laptops - is a description of published fields and is expressly not an allegation of mispricing, misleading advertising, unfair trade practice or any breach of the Legal Metrology Act, the Consumer Protection Act, the Packaged Commodities Rules, the Advertising Standards Council of India code or any other law, rule, code or policy by HP India Sales Private Limited, HP Inc. or any related company, and no wrongdoing is alleged or implied. Setting a maximum retail price is the manufacturer's own commercial decision and may legitimately differ between product lines for reasons this page does not attempt to establish. Prices on hp.com vary by configuration, by variant and by any instant cashback, coupon, exchange, student or bank offer applied at checkout, and change without notice; the price and terms shown at your checkout prevail over anything here. Product names and model numbers, the words 'AI', 'Next Gen AI' and 'Gaming', and every stated specification are HP's own printed text, reproduced as printed and not verified or tested by us. Product photographs are HP's own catalogue images and may be styled or retouched. Any comparison with prices at Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital or Vijay Sales is suggested as a method only; no such prices were read for this page.
