Everyday Flipkart basket categories — a grooming trimmer, over-ear headphones and a backpack — on a colour-block panel, for this page explaining Flipkart's platform fee and delivery charges

Everyone notices the extra line at the bottom of a Flipkart cart and nobody can find where it is explained. It is in the Terms of Use — along with two more charges — and the document does something worth knowing about: it defines each one and prices none of them.

Below: what the platform fee, GT delivery charges and the flights convenience fee actually are in Flipkart's own words, the clause that lets a seller cancel an order priced by mistake, and the grievance route Flipkart publishes when support has not helped.

Platform fee, GT charges and convenience fee: defined, never priced
Fee changes take effect as soon as they are posted
📅 Update log:
8 Sep 2026 — first published, from the Terms of Use at flipkart.com/pages/terms as served to a logged-out visitor on 8 September 2026. Flipkart may amend these Terms and its fee policy at any time, and the document says changes take effect immediately once posted, so we re-read the page and log any change to the charges, the pricing-error clause or the grievance-officer details here.

Three charges, defined in the Terms and priced nowhere in them

If you have ever looked at a Flipkart cart and wondered what the small extra line is, the answer is in the Terms of Use — but only half of it. The document defines each charge and then, in every case, declines to attach a number to it.

The platform fee gets one sentence: a “fee levied by Flipkart to sustain the efficient operations and continuous improvement of the platform, for a hassle-free app experience.” That is the entire definition. No amount, no band, no rule about when it applies.

GT Charges — the delivery charge, payable to the transporter Flipkart arranges — are explicitly variable: they “may vary from order to order”, determined by factors including order value, distance and time of the day. Flipkart says it will tell you the GT charge that applies at the time, and that it collects the money on the transporter's behalf rather than for itself.

And the umbrella clause is broader than either: Flipkart “may charge a nominal fee for browsing and buying on the Platform”, may introduce new fees or amend existing ones at its sole discretion, and any change “shall automatically become effective immediately after” being posted on the platform. Nothing there is unusual for an Indian marketplace; it is simply worth knowing that the number in your cart is the only authoritative one, and that the Terms give it a lot of room to move.

ChargeHow the Terms define itWhat the Terms say about the amount
Platform fee“Fee levied by Flipkart to sustain the efficient operations and continuous improvement of the platform, for a hassle-free app experience”No amount stated anywhere in the Terms
GT Charges (delivery/transport)Payable to the transporter Flipkart facilitates for moving the product from the seller to you; Flipkart is authorised to collect it on the transporter's behalf“May vary from order to order”, based on order value, distance and time of day
Convenience fee (Flipkart Flights)Charged in addition to the fare set by the travel service provider, for using the booking serviceDisplayed before you confirm the booking — and non-refundable under any circumstances
General fees under the Charges clauseFlipkart “may charge a nominal fee for browsing and buying on the Platform” and may introduce or amend fees at its sole discretionChanges are posted on the Platform and “become effective immediately after they are posted”
✈️ The one charge the Terms rule out getting back. On Flipkart Flights, the convenience fee is “non-refundable under any circumstances whatsoever, including but not limited to cancellation of the booking, no-show, modification of the itinerary, or any failure or default on the part of the service provider.” If the airline fails you, the booking fee still stays spent. Flipkart also reserves the right to recover any short-charged amount later, and to cancel the booking if you have not paid the balance before you travel.

What the Terms say when something goes wrong

The commercially important half of this document is not the charges — it is the set of clauses describing what Flipkart is and is not responsible for. Flipkart is a marketplace: it never takes title to or possession of the goods, the contract is between you and the seller, and it says so repeatedly.

The most concrete of these is the pricing-error clause. In Flipkart's own words, pricing “may due to some technical issue, typographical error or product information published by seller may be incorrectly reflected and in such an event seller may cancel such your order(s)”. A price that looks too good to be true is, contractually, cancellable by the seller after you have paid.

Alongside it sits the description disclaimer: Flipkart “does not warrant that Product description or other content of this Platform is accurate, complete, reliable, current, or error-free and assumes no liability in this regard”. And on disputes, the Terms state Flipkart is not required to mediate or resolve any disagreement between a buyer and a seller.

What you do have is a named route. If a seller refuses a return, the Terms point to the Buyer Protection Programme for filing a dispute; and if support does not resolve a complaint, Flipkart publishes a grievance officer under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 with a stated response window of 24 to 48 hours.

If this happensWhat Flipkart's Terms say
The price on the page was wrongThe Terms say pricing may be incorrectly reflected through a technical issue, typographical error or the seller's own product information — and that the seller may cancel your order in that event
The product description was wrongFlipkart states it does not warrant that product descriptions or other content are accurate, complete, reliable, current or error-free, and assumes no liability for it
The seller refuses your returnYou can file a dispute under the Buyer Protection Programme; the Terms also note a seller may accept a return regardless of policy, and that a wrong item ordered by the buyer carries no entitlement to return or refund
You and the seller disagreeFlipkart states it is not required to mediate or resolve any dispute between buyers and sellers, and never takes title to or possession of the goods
You were undercharged on a flight bookingFlipkart reserves the right to claim the balance afterwards, and may cancel the booking if it is not paid before the travel date
Support has not resolved your issueWrite to the published grievance officer — grievance.officer@flipkart.com — with a stated response window of 24 to 48 hours

The clauses everyone accepts and nobody reads

The rest of the document is the ordinary furniture of an Indian e-commerce contract, with a few clauses that genuinely affect you.

Jurisdiction is exclusively Bengaluru, and the platform is for sale in India only — order from outside the country and Flipkart says it is not responsible for supply or refunds. Liability is capped: no special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages, in any event.

Two account clauses are worth a moment. Your Flipkart login is a single login across other apps owned by Flipkart group companies, which you agree to by using the platform. And you grant express consent to advertising — ads, promotions and sponsored content placed adjacent to, integrated within or overlaid on the interface, “as well as throughout the transaction and payment”, in a manner and extent that can change without specific notice.

Finally, the account itself: you are solely liable for everything done under it, sharing your login is itself a breach, and Flipkart may suspend the account without liability if it believes there is a security risk.

ClauseWhat it means for you
Sale in India onlyMaterial on the platform is presented solely for sale in India; Flipkart is not responsible for supply or refunds on orders placed from other countries
JurisdictionThe Terms are governed by Indian law and “the place of jurisdiction shall be exclusively in Bangalore”
Limitation of liabilityFlipkart states it is not liable for special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages of any kind under these Terms
One login across group appsYour Flipkart username and password give access to other apps owned by Flipkart group companies, and you agree to that single login
Consent to advertisingBy using the platform you grant express consent for Flipkart to display advertisements and sponsored content, including during the transaction and payment flow
Your account, your liabilityYou are solely responsible for everything done under your account; sharing login details is itself a breach of the Terms
MinorsTransactions are only for those competent to contract; a person under 18 may use the platform under a guardian's supervision, and transactions must be made by the parent or guardian
📞 The grievance officer is a real, published contact. Under the IT Act 2000 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, Flipkart lists the officer by name and role, at Embassy Tech Village, Bengaluru 560103, with the email grievance.officer@flipkart.com, the phone number 044-67415800 and hours of Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 18:00. The Terms say to use it when an order concern is not addressed within the promised timeframe by the support team, and guarantee a response within 24 to 48 hours of the email being received.

What to do with this before you check out

Read the cart total, not the product price. The platform fee and the GT charge are defined in the Terms but never priced there; the figure shown in your cart before you pay is the only number that binds anyone.

On flights, treat the convenience fee as spent the moment you book. It is non-refundable in every circumstance the Terms list, including the airline's own failure.

Do not count on an obvious pricing mistake. The Terms let the seller cancel an order priced wrongly by technical or typographical error, so an implausible price is not a contract.

Escalate in the published order. Support first, then the Buyer Protection Programme for a seller who refuses a return, then the grievance officer — and keep the dates, because the 24-to-48-hour window is Flipkart's own commitment.

None of this replaces consumer law. A retailer's terms describe what the retailer undertakes to do; your rights under Indian consumer law exist independently of them.

How this page was read, and what it does not tell you

Everything here comes from Flipkart's own Terms of Use at flipkart.com/pages/terms, read on 8 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India. The Charges clause and its ‘nominal fee’ wording, the platform-fee definition, the Flipkart Flights convenience fee including its non-refundability and the short-charging recovery right, the GT Charges description and the factors that vary it, the pricing-error disclaimer, the product-description warranty disclaimer, the limitation of liability, the statement that Flipkart is not required to mediate buyer-seller disputes, the Buyer Protection Programme route and the four ways a seller can close a return ticket, the grievance officer's published contact details and 24-48 hour response commitment, the India-only sale clause, the exclusive Bengaluru jurisdiction, the single-login-across-group-apps clause, the express consent to advertising and the account-responsibility rules are all quoted or paraphrased from that document without adjustment.

What that means for what you can conclude. We read the published Terms only. No order was placed, no fee was paid, no dispute was filed and no complaint was escalated, so nothing here reports what any charge actually came to on a real order or how any of these clauses is applied in practice. In particular, the Terms of Use define the platform fee, the GT charge and the convenience fee without stating an amount for any of them: we have not invented figures, and the amount shown in your own cart or booking flow before you pay is the only authoritative number. Fees, clauses and policies can be amended at any time, and the Terms themselves say changes to the fee policy take effect as soon as they are posted, so check the live document before relying on anything above. Individual product pages, the returns policy, the payments page and event-specific terms carry their own conditions that may differ. Nothing on this page is legal advice, and nothing here limits or describes your rights under Indian consumer law, which exist independently of any retailer's terms. No wrongdoing by Flipkart or by any seller is alleged or implied.

The short version

The charges are defined but not priced. The Terms describe a platform fee, GT delivery charges and a flights convenience fee without stating an amount for any of them; GT charges explicitly vary by order value, distance and time of day.

Fee changes take effect the moment they are posted. Flipkart may introduce or amend fees at its sole discretion, and the flights convenience fee is non-refundable in every circumstance listed.

A wrong price is cancellable. The Terms let the seller cancel an order where pricing was incorrectly reflected, and Flipkart does not warrant that product descriptions are accurate.

There is a published escalation route. Buyer Protection for a refused return; grievance.officer@flipkart.com for anything support has not resolved, with a stated 24-48 hour response window.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Flipkart platform fee?
Flipkart's Terms of Use define it in a single sentence: a “fee levied by Flipkart to sustain the efficient operations and continuous improvement of the platform, for a hassle-free app experience”. That is the whole definition — the Terms do not state an amount, a band, or the orders it applies to. The broader Charges clause adds that Flipkart “may charge a nominal fee for browsing and buying on the Platform”, may introduce or amend fees at its sole discretion, and that changes to the fee policy “automatically become effective immediately after they are posted” on the platform. Because no figure is published in the Terms, the only authoritative number is the one shown in your cart before you pay. Read from flipkart.com/pages/terms on 8 September 2026.
What are GT Charges on a Flipkart order?
GT Charges are the transport fee for moving your product from the seller to your address. The Terms say that by agreeing to them you engage a transport service provider facilitated by Flipkart, that the movement of goods is on your account, and that you are liable to pay “GT Charges” for delivery — which Flipkart is authorised to collect on the transporter's behalf. The amount is explicitly variable: the Terms say it “may vary from order to order, which will be determined on multiple factors, which shall include but not be limited to order value, distance and time of the day”, and that Flipkart will inform you of the charge that applies at the time. No figure appears in the Terms.
Is the Flipkart flight convenience fee refundable?
No. Flipkart's Terms state that the convenience fee it charges on travel bookings is “non-refundable under any circumstances whatsoever, including but not limited to cancellation of the booking, no-show, modification of the itinerary, or any failure or default on the part of the service provider”. The fee is charged in addition to the fare set by the travel provider and is shown before you confirm the booking. The Terms add that if a booking is short-charged for any reason — taxes, statutory fees, convenience fee, a technical error — Flipkart reserves the right to claim the balance from you, and may cancel the booking if it is not paid before the travel date. Flipkart also says it is not responsible for refunds from the travel service provider, beyond passing them on when received.
Can Flipkart cancel my order if the price was wrong?
The Terms provide for exactly that. In Flipkart's own wording: “Pricing on any product(s) as is reflected on the Platform may due to some technical issue, typographical error or product information published by seller may be incorrectly reflected and in such an event seller may cancel such your order(s).” Alongside it, Flipkart states it does not warrant that product descriptions or other content on the platform are accurate, complete, reliable, current or error-free, and assumes no liability in that regard. Because Flipkart is a marketplace, the contract is between you and the seller, and the Terms say Flipkart is not required to mediate or resolve disputes between the two. A price that looks like a mistake is therefore not a binding bargain.
How do I escalate a complaint to Flipkart?
The Terms set out a route. For order issues, Flipkart points to its help centre — open the order, tap Help, and choose Chat with us — and to the bot on the help centre page for general queries. If a seller refuses a return, the Terms say you can file a dispute under the Buyer Protection Programme. If your concern is not addressed within the promised timeframe by the support team, Flipkart publishes a grievance officer under the IT Act 2000 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020: email grievance.officer@flipkart.com, phone 044-67415800, at Embassy Tech Village, Bengaluru 560103, available Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 18:00, with a guaranteed response within 24 to 48 hours of receiving your email. Your rights under Indian consumer law apply independently of this process.
