Flipkart Order Cancellation Rules 2026: When a Seller Can Cancel

By Zoutons Editorial Team🕔 Updated: 13 September 2026⭐ Read from flipkart.com's own Terms of Use, 13 Sep 2026📊 4 cancellation powers · 4 fees · the 3-day refund rule🔗 Affiliate links included
Three high-value product categories the Flipkart cancellation clauses bite on hardest — a 4K OLED television, a gaming laptop and a thin-and-light laptop — arranged as a colour-block panel, on this page explaining Flipkart's order cancellation and refund rules

Almost nobody reads the sentence that decides what happens when a Flipkart order goes wrong. Its Terms of Use state that placing an order “is an offer to buy the product(s) ... and it shall not be construed as Seller's acceptance”. Paying does not form the contract, and until the seller accepts, it may cancel “at its sole discretion”.

Below: the four cancellation powers the document actually sets out, including the pricing-error clause and the Rs. 2,00,000 PAN rule; what happens to each of the four fees depending on who cancels; and the three-day deadline that settles a stalled refund in the buyer's favour.

📅 Update log:
13 Sep 2026 — first published, from the Terms of Use at flipkart.com/pages/terms as served to a logged-out visitor on 13 September 2026. Flipkart can change its cancellation clauses, fee treatment and refund deadlines at any time, so we re-read the page and log any change to the offer-and-acceptance wording, the Rs. 2,00,000 threshold, the four-day PAN window, the platform-fee reversal or the three-day rule here.

Your Flipkart order is an offer to buy, not a completed purchase

The sentence that governs everything else on this page is in Flipkart's Terms of Use, and almost nobody reads it: “Placement of order by a Buyer with Seller on the Platform is an offer to buy the product(s) ... and it shall not be construed as Seller's acceptance of Buyer's offer to buy the product(s) ordered.”

In plain terms: paying does not close the deal. The order confirmation you receive is Flipkart acknowledging your offer, and the seller is the one who accepts it. Until it does, the policy states that the seller “retains the right to cancel any such order placed by the Buyer, at its sole discretion”, with the buyer “intimated of the same by way of an email/SMS” and the transaction price refunded.

This is not unique to Flipkart — it is the standard construction of Indian marketplace terms — but Flipkart spells out four distinct situations in which the cancellation actually happens, and they are worth knowing before you plan a purchase around a price.

Cancellation powerWhat the policy saysStated trigger
Cancellation at sole discretionBecause your order is an offer rather than a completed contract, the seller “retains the right to cancel any such order placed by the Buyer, at its sole discretion”. You are told by email or SMS and the transaction price is refundedNo stated trigger — sole discretion
Cancellation for buying too manyThe seller may cancel an order “wherein the quantities exceed the typical individual consumption”. This applies both within one order and across “several orders for the same product”What is typical is “at the sole discretion of the Seller” and “may vary from individual to individual”
Cancellation for a pricing errorWhere a price is “incorrectly reflected” because of a technical issue, a typographical error or the seller's own product information, “seller may cancel such your order(s)”Technical issue, typographical error, or wrong seller-published information
Cancellation for a missing PAN cardOn a purchase at or above Rs. 2,00,000 you must upload a scanned copy of your PAN card, “failing which, the purchase made by the Customer will be cancelled”. The order also stands cancelled if the name on the PAN card does not match yoursRs. 2,00,000 and above · 4 days to upload
Cancellation for an age-restricted itemFor tobacco products you confirm you are eighteen (twenty-one in Karnataka) and that the delivery location is not within 100m of an educational institute; the delivery agent may ask for ID. “Flipkart reserves the right to cancel your order in case of any transgressions”Under-age, ID refused, or within 100m of a school
Cancellation of the tax invoice on suspected fraudOn a business purchase the seller “reserves the right to not issue Tax Invoice or issue a credit note against an already issued Tax Invoice to cancel the transaction, if any fraudulent activity is identified”Fraudulent activity identified
🔍 The quantity clause is broader than it looks. A seller may cancel where quantities “exceed the typical individual consumption” — and the policy says this applies to “the placing of several orders for the same product”, not just one large order. What counts as typical is “based on various factors and at the sole discretion of the Seller” and “may vary from individual to individual”. There is no published number.

The pricing-error clause: what happens when a price looks too good

Every few months a listing appears at an obviously wrong price and the screenshots go around. Flipkart's terms address it directly: “Pricing on any product(s) as is reflected on the Platform may due to some technical issue, typographical error or product information published by seller may be incorrectly reflected and in such an event seller may cancel such your order(s).”

Three things are worth reading carefully here. The clause covers a technical issue, a typographical error and wrong product information published by the seller, so it is not limited to a stray zero in a price field. The power sits with the seller, not with Flipkart. And it is a cancellation power, not a repricing one — the remedy in the document is that the order goes away and you are refunded, not that you are charged the correct price.

Combined with the offer-and-acceptance clause above, that is the answer to the question people actually ask: a mispriced order that has been paid for is still cancellable, because payment did not form the contract.

💡 If a price looks wrong, do not build a plan around it. Nothing in Flipkart's terms obliges a seller to honour a price it says was incorrectly reflected. The one thing the document does guarantee on a seller-initiated cancellation is the refund: the transaction price paid is returned to the buyer.

The Rs. 2,00,000 rule: upload your PAN in four days or the order is cancelled

This one is statutory rather than commercial, and it catches people buying a laptop, a large television or a phone at the top of the range. Flipkart's terms state that if a customer makes a purchase of an amount equal to or above Rs. 2,00,000, the customer must upload a scanned copy of their PAN card on the Platform within 4 days of making the purchase, “failing which, the purchase made by the Customer will be cancelled”.

Two details in the same clause. The requirement “arises only once” — if you have already submitted a PAN card, you do not submit it again. And the order “shall stand cancelled if there is a discrepancy between the name of the Customer and the name on the PAN Card”, which is a real trap for anyone ordering on a spouse's or parent's account.

The threshold is on the purchase amount, not on a single item, so a large basket reaches it the same way one expensive product does.

Which Flipkart fees come back when an order is cancelled — and which do not

This is the part with money in it, and the answer is different for each fee. Three fees can appear on a Flipkart order alongside the product price, plus a fourth on travel bookings, and the policy treats all four differently on a cancellation.

The platform fee is the one to understand. It can be waived or discounted when you apply a Flipkart coupon — but if you then cancel or return the order, the policy states the fee “becomes payable (without the discount or waiver applied earlier)” and Flipkart collects it. In other words the waiver is contingent on the order completing. If Flipkart or the seller cancels the full order instead, platform charges net of discounts and waivers are refunded to you.

The payment-mode fee is refundable on cancellation or return with two exceptions named in the text: corporate credit cards and cash-on-delivery orders. The secure-packaging fee is refundable in full. The travel convenience fee is not refundable in any circumstance the policy can imagine, and it says so at length.

FeeWhat it is forOn a cancellation
Platform feeCharged “to enable a seamless and secure shopping experience on the platform” and to cover platform operating costs. It can be waived or discounted when a Flipkart coupon or incentive is appliedIf YOU cancel or return, the fee “becomes payable (without the discount or waiver applied earlier)” and Flipkart collects it. If FLIPKART OR THE SELLER cancels the full order, platform charges net of discounts and waivers are refunded
Payment-mode feeCharged for processing your chosen payment instrument securely and covering the handling cost of that optionRefundable on order cancellation or return — except for corporate credit cards and cash-on-delivery orders
Secure-packaging feeCharged to cover secured packaging and open-box delivery verification“Fully refundable if your order is cancelled or returned”
Travel convenience or service feeCharged on travel bookings in addition to what the airline, hotel or operator charges“Non-refundable under any circumstances whatsoever, including but not limited to cancellation of the booking, no-show, modification of the itinerary”
⚠️ Who cancels decides what you get back. The distinction the policy draws is not between cancelling early and cancelling late — it is between a cancellation by you and a cancellation by Flipkart or the seller. A full cancellation by Flipkart or the seller returns platform charges net of discounts and waivers; a cancellation or return by you makes the platform fee payable at its undiscounted level.

The three-day rule that settles a stuck refund in your favour

Buried in the refund section is a deadline that works for the buyer, and it is specific: “In case the Seller doesn't close the ticket in 3 days from the date of intimation to the Seller about the refund request, the refund request shall be settled in favor of the Buyer.”

That is a default judgment in your favour on the seller's silence, and it is stated without qualification in the document. It is worth knowing the clock exists, because a refund conversation that has gone quiet is exactly the situation in which most people assume nothing is happening.

The escalation path is published too. If your concern is “not addressed within the promised timeframe by the support team”, the terms direct you to the Grievance Officer named in the document under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, with a guaranteed response within 24 to 48 hours of the email being received.

One thing to know before it gets that far: on any proceedings you bring, the terms state that they “shall be exclusively before the courts in Bengaluru, India”.

SituationWhat Flipkart's terms state
The seller cancels your order“Any transaction price paid by Buyer in case of such cancellation by Seller, shall be refunded to the Buyer”

The order is lost or never delivered“If the order is lost or undelivered to the preferred location, the complete order amount will be refunded if paid online, including the platform fee net of discounts/ waivers”
You cancel or return the order yourselfThe platform fee becomes payable without the earlier discount or waiver, and Flipkart collects it. The payment-mode fee is refunded unless you paid by corporate credit card or cash on delivery; the secure-packaging fee is refunded in full
The seller sits on your refund request“In case the Seller doesn't close the ticket in 3 days from the date of intimation to the Seller about the refund request, the refund request shall be settled in favor of the Buyer”
Support does not answer you in time“In the event that your order concern/query is not addressed within the promised timeframe by the support team, please write to our Grievance Officer” — Flipkart guarantees a response within 24 to 48 hours of the email
How this page was read, and what it does not tell you

Everything here comes from Flipkart's own Terms of Use at flipkart.com/pages/terms, read on 13 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India. The offer-and-acceptance clause, the sole-discretion cancellation right and the email/SMS intimation, the quantity clause and its “typical individual consumption” wording, the pricing-error clause, the Rs. 2,00,000 PAN requirement with its four-day window and name-mismatch condition, the tobacco age and 100-metre conditions, the four fee descriptions and their refund treatment, the platform-fee reversal on a customer cancellation, the lost-or-undelivered refund rule, the three-day seller ticket rule, the Grievance Officer's 24-to-48-hour response guarantee and the exclusive Bengaluru jurisdiction are all Flipkart's own published text, quoted or paraphrased without adjustment.

What that means for what you can conclude. We read the policy document only. We did not place an order, cancel an order, trigger any clause, submit a PAN card, raise a refund ticket or contact the Grievance Officer, and we did not measure how often, how quickly or how consistently any of these rules is applied — so nothing here reports what happens to any individual order. A published policy states intent; it is not evidence of outcome in either direction. Nothing on this page alleges that Flipkart or any seller cancels orders wrongly, withholds refunds, or misapplies any fee, and no wrongdoing is alleged or implied. This page is not legal advice, and your statutory rights as a consumer in India are unaffected by anything summarised here. Flipkart can change these terms at any time without notice and the live page is authoritative. Category-level return windows, the Replacement Guarantee, the ratings policy and seller-side obligations sit elsewhere in the same document and are not covered here.

The short version

Your order is an offer, not a contract. Flipkart's terms say so outright, and the seller may cancel “at its sole discretion” until it accepts — with the transaction price refunded.

A wrong price is cancellable, not enforceable. Technical issues, typographical errors and bad seller-published information are all named, and the remedy in the document is cancellation plus refund.

Rs. 2,00,000 and above needs a PAN card within four days, once ever — and a name mismatch cancels the order on its own.

The platform fee is the fee to watch. Cancel or return an order yourself and any coupon waiver on it is reversed; if Flipkart or the seller cancels the full order, it comes back net of discounts.

Three days of seller silence settles a refund request in your favour, and the Grievance Officer guarantees a reply within 24 to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Flipkart cancel my order after I have paid?
Yes, and the terms explain why. Flipkart's Terms of Use state that “Placement of order by a Buyer with Seller on the Platform is an offer to buy the product(s) ... and it shall not be construed as Seller's acceptance”, so paying does not by itself form the contract. The seller “retains the right to cancel any such order placed by the Buyer, at its sole discretion”, and the policy says you are told by email or SMS and that “any transaction price paid by Buyer in case of such cancellation by Seller, shall be refunded”. This is the published policy as read on 13 September 2026; we did not test how or how often it is used.
What happens if a Flipkart product is listed at the wrong price?
The terms give the seller a cancellation right rather than obliging anyone to honour the price. In Flipkart's words, pricing “may due to some technical issue, typographical error or product information published by seller may be incorrectly reflected and in such an event seller may cancel such your order(s)”. Note the breadth: it covers a technical fault, a typo, and wrong information the seller itself published. Read alongside the offer-and-acceptance clause, that means a mispriced order you have already paid for can still be cancelled, with the transaction price refunded.
Why does Flipkart ask for a PAN card on expensive orders?
Because the terms make it a condition of the purchase. “As required by applicable law, if the Customer makes a purchase of an amount equal to or above INR 2,00,000.00 the Customer will be required to upload a scanned copy of his/her PAN card on the Platform, within 4 days of making the purchase, failing which, the purchase made by the Customer will be cancelled.” The requirement arises only once — if you have submitted a PAN card before, you do not need to again. One detail to check before you order on someone else's account: the order “shall stand cancelled if there is a discrepancy between the name of the Customer and the name on the PAN Card”.
Do I get the Flipkart platform fee back if I cancel?
It depends on who cancels. If you cancel or return the order, the terms state that the platform fee “becomes payable (without the discount or waiver applied earlier)” and is collected by Flipkart — so a coupon waiver on that fee is reversed. If Flipkart or the seller cancels the full order, “platform charges net of discounts/ waivers will be refunded”, and the same applies if the order is lost or never delivered. Two other fees behave differently: the payment-mode fee is refundable except on corporate credit cards and cash-on-delivery orders, and the secure-packaging fee is “fully refundable if your order is cancelled or returned”.
What can I do if a Flipkart seller ignores my refund request?
The terms contain a deadline that runs in your favour: “In case the Seller doesn't close the ticket in 3 days from the date of intimation to the Seller about the refund request, the refund request shall be settled in favor of the Buyer.” If your query is not addressed by support within the promised timeframe, the terms direct you to write to the Grievance Officer appointed under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, whose contact details are published in the same document, with a guaranteed response “within 24- 48 hours from the receipt date of your email”. Note also that any proceedings you bring are, per the terms, to be brought exclusively before the courts in Bengaluru.
