On 18 September 2026 we read four Flipkart shelves - power banks, electric kettles, dinner sets and small kitchen appliances - and on three of them found a product listed more than once, at more than one price.
The clearest case cost Rs. 287. Pigeon's Favourite Electric Kettle was on sale at Rs. 499 and at Rs. 786 at the same moment, and the expensive listing advertised the smaller discount. Here is the fifteen-second check that catches it, the evidence behind it, and the one case where the check misfires.
🔑 The check, in one line
If two listings show the same rating count to the final digit, they are one product
Sort by price, never by discount - the dearer copy often shows the bigger badge
📅 Update log:
18 Sep 2026 — first published. Every price, MRP, badge, rating average and rating count on this page was read on 18 September 2026 from flipkart.com's and amazon.in's own search results, logged out, in India. Listings and prices change daily and the live pages are always authoritative; the method on this page is durable, the specific examples are a snapshot. We re-read shelves like these regularly and log what has changed here.
The Rs. 287 you can lose without doing anything wrong
On 18 September 2026 we read four Flipkart shelves - power banks, electric kettles, dinner sets and small kitchen appliances - and found the same thing on three of them. A product was listed more than once, at more than one price, with nothing on the page to tell you the cheaper copy existed.
The clearest case: Pigeon's Favourite Electric Kettle was on sale at Rs. 499 and at Rs. 786 at the same moment. Same brand, same model name, same photograph, and - this is the part that matters - the same 673,026 ratings at 4.1 on both. Buy the wrong one and you have paid 57 per cent more for an identical kettle.
Now look at what the discount badge did. The Rs. 499 listing crossed out Rs. 1,345 and advertised 63 per cent off. The Rs. 786 listing crossed out Rs. 1,195 and advertised 34 per cent off. The expensive listing shows the smaller discount, because each seller chooses its own crossed-out figure as well as its price. Sort a shelf by discount and you can be sorted straight into the dearer copy.
None of this is against the rules. A marketplace can carry several listings for one product, often from different sellers, and no law requires them to converge on a price. But nothing on the product page tells you a cheaper twin exists either, so the check is yours to run - and it takes about fifteen seconds.
The trick: compare the rating count, not the rating
Flipkart pools customer feedback per product rather than per listing. That is the whole basis of the method: if two listings display the same rating count to the final digit, they are two listings of one product. A rating average will not do it - half the kettles on that shelf average 4.1 - but a six-figure count matching to the final digit is not a coincidence.
Here is every duplicate pair we measured on 18 September 2026, with the shared count that identifies each one.
| The product | Listing A | Listing B | The shared fingerprint |
|---|
| Pigeon Favourite Electric Kettle | Rs. 499, 63% off a stated Rs. 1,345 | Rs. 786, 34% off a stated Rs. 1,195 | 4.1 from 673,026 on both |
| Pigeon Favourite Multi Cooker | Rs. 865, 49% off a stated Rs. 1,695 | Rs. 1,072, 43% off a stated Rs. 1,895 | 4.0 from 117,065 on both |
| MILTON ELECTRO Electric Kettle | Rs. 799, 45% off a stated Rs. 1,465 | Rs. 799, 43% off a stated Rs. 1,399 | 4.3 from 119,503 on both |
| GOBOULT Ampvault V20 20,000mAh | Rs. 1,499, 67% off a stated Rs. 4,499 | Rs. 1,499, same price, second title | 4.2 from 40,305 on both |
| boAt 20,000mAh 22.5W Slim | Rs. 1,799, 60% off a stated Rs. 4,499 | Rs. 1,799, same price, second title | 4.1 from 252,057 on both |
Two of those five pairs cost you real money: the Pigeon kettle differs by Rs. 287 between its two listings and the Pigeon multi-cooker by Rs. 207. Two more - the GOBOULT and boAt power banks - carry the same price on both listings, so nothing is at stake beyond understanding the shelf. The Milton pair sits in between: the identical kettle at the identical Rs. 799, against two different crossed-out figures, Rs. 1,465 on one listing and Rs. 1,399 on the other, which is the cleanest proof available that the stated MRP is chosen rather than charged.
Why you can trust the fingerprint: the controls
A method is only useful if it can be wrong. If Flipkart pooled ratings by brand, or by product family, the identical-count test would fire constantly and mean nothing. It does not. On the same shelves, on the same day, these pairs carried clearly different counts - which is exactly what you want to see.
| The pair | Listing one | Listing two | What it proves |
|---|
| Prestige PKOSS and Prestige Atlas | Rs. 699, 4.1 from 169,765 | Rs. 699, 4.1 from 191,815 | Two different kettles that happen to cost the same |
| Kenstar Estella 1.6 and Estella 2.0 | Rs. 529, 4.1 from 35,432 | Rs. 549, 4.1 from 273 | Same brand and family name, two different products |
| Deep Cuisine and WeProve 1.5-litre pots | Rs. 498, 3.6 from 226 | Rs. 498, 3.7 from 617 | One white-label product, two sellers, separate pools |
Prestige's PKOSS and Atlas both cost Rs. 699 and both average 4.1, so price and rating cannot separate them - but 169,765 against 191,815 says immediately that these are two different kettles, not one listed twice. Kenstar's two Estellas do the same thing inside one product family, at 35,432 and 273.
The third row is the other case worth recognising. Deep Cuisine and WeProve sell an identical 1.5-litre steel pot with an identical title, an identical Rs. 498 price and an identical stated MRP of Rs. 1,299 - but their rating counts differ, because they are two sellers who have each put their own brand name on the same white-label product. That is not a duplicate listing; it is a duplicate product. The consequence for you is the same: buy the one with more feedback, which here is the 617-rating listing rather than the 226.
The exception: when an identical count means a series, not a product
There is one situation where the test misfires, and you need to know it. Some brands pool feedback across a whole product series rather than a single product. On the dinner set shelf we read the same day, four cello Dazzle sets at four different prices all displayed exactly 197,032 ratings, and two Larah by Borosil Rosalie sets both displayed 63,588.
Those are genuinely different products - 47 pieces, 37, 35 and 10 - not one set listed four times. The pattern that tells them apart is the piece count, the pattern name or the variant in the title: a duplicate listing is identical in every respect except the price, while a series pool covers listings that differ in size or configuration.
| The listing | Price | Rating shown | What it means |
|---|
| cello Dazzle opalware, 47 pieces | Rs. 2,450 | 4.4 from 197,032 | A series pool, not a duplicate |
| cello Dazzle opalware, 37 pieces | Rs. 2,138 | 4.4 from 197,032 | Genuinely a different set |
| cello Dazzle opalware, 35 pieces | Rs. 2,036 | 4.4 from 197,032 | Genuinely a different set |
| cello Dazzle opalware, 10 pieces | Rs. 765 | 4.4 from 197,032 | Genuinely a different set |
| Larah by Borosil Rosalie, 34 pieces | Rs. 1,828 | 4.4 from 63,588 | A second series pool |
| Larah by Borosil Rosalie, 17 pieces | Rs. 1,120 | 4.4 from 63,588 | Exactly half the set, 22% more per piece |
The practical consequence of a series pool is that the rating count cannot help you choose within that series. It is constant. Choose on the configuration and on the price per unit instead - per piece for a dinner set, per litre for a bottle, per claimed 1,000mAh for a power bank. cello's own Solitaire range pools separately at 1,797 ratings, which is how you can see the boundaries of a pool.
The fifteen-second check, in order
- Copy the exact model name from the listing title - 'Pigeon Favourite Electric Kettle', not 'kettle' - paste it into the search box and sort price low to high.
- Compare rating counts, not averages. If a cheaper result shows the identical count, it is the same product. Buy that one.
- Ignore the discount badge entirely. In both Pigeon pairs the dearer listing advertised the smaller discount, and in the Milton pair the same kettle at the same price carried two different crossed-out figures.
- Check the variant before you celebrate. If the cheaper result differs in size, piece count or capacity, you are looking at a series pool, not a twin - compare price per unit instead.
- For a branded product, check the other marketplace too. On our 18 September read boAt's 20,000mAh power bank was Rs. 1,799 on both Amazon and Flipkart against an identical stated MRP of Rs. 4,499, so on many branded goods there is nothing to find - but Flipkart was cheaper by Rs. 8 to Rs. 300 on every other matched product we checked.
- Where the product is unbranded, count the brand names. Six separately branded listings sold a claimed 20,000mAh power bank at Rs. 992 with stated MRPs from Rs. 2,999 to Rs. 4,999 - one product, six labels, six different ceilings. Buy whichever has the most ratings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the same product listed twice on Flipkart at different prices?
Because a marketplace can carry more than one listing for a product, frequently from different sellers, and nothing requires them to charge the same. In our 18 September 2026 read Pigeon's Favourite Electric Kettle appeared at Rs. 499 and at Rs. 786 and its Favourite Multi Cooker at Rs. 865 and Rs. 1,072. This is ordinary and lawful marketplace practice; the point is that nothing on the dearer listing tells you the cheaper one exists, so you have to check.
How do I tell whether two Flipkart listings are the same product?
Compare the rating counts. Flipkart pools feedback per product, so two listings displaying the identical count to the final digit are one product - the Pigeon pair both showed 673,026 and the boAt power bank pair both showed 252,057. Different counts mean different products, even at the same price: Prestige's PKOSS and Atlas both cost Rs. 699 and showed 169,765 and 191,815. The one exception is a series pool, where several genuinely different sizes share one count.
Does the biggest discount on Flipkart mean the lowest price?
No, and it can mean the opposite. The Rs. 499 Pigeon kettle advertised 63 per cent off and the identical kettle at Rs. 786 advertised 34 per cent, because each seller picks its own crossed-out MRP as well as its price. The same Milton kettle at the same Rs. 799 appeared against two different stated MRPs, Rs. 1,465 and Rs. 1,399. Sort by price, never by discount, and treat the percentage as decoration.
Why do several different dinner sets show the same number of ratings?
That is a series pool rather than a duplicate listing. Four cello Dazzle sets - 47, 37, 35 and 10 pieces, priced from Rs. 765 to Rs. 2,450 - all displayed 197,032 ratings at 4.4 on 18 September 2026, and two Larah by Borosil Rosalie sets both displayed 63,588. These are genuinely different products sharing one brand-series rating pool. The tell is that they differ in piece count or configuration, where a duplicate listing is identical in everything but price. Within a pool, choose on price per piece.
Are unbranded listings with six different names the same product?
Often, yes. On the power bank shelf we read, six separately branded listings - WINgFI, MIOX, zofia, MI8BE, reditor and TRPS - sold a claimed 20,000mAh at 22.5W for Rs. 992 or Rs. 994, with near-identical specification lines and stated MRPs ranging from Rs. 2,999 to Rs. 4,999. Two Rs. 498 kettle listings, Deep Cuisine and WeProve, carried word-for-word identical titles. These are white-label products sold under several labels; they have separate rating pools, so buy whichever listing has the most feedback.
Prices & codes last verified: 18 September 2026
Every price, MRP, discount badge, rating average and rating count on this page was read on 18 September 2026 from flipkart.com's and amazon.in's own search results, as served to a logged-out visitor in India, with nothing bought, no account used and no coupon or bank offer applied. The examples come from four Flipkart shelves read that day - power banks, electric kettles, dinner sets and small kitchen appliances - and describe those listings at that moment rather than either platform's full catalogue; a different query on a different day would return a different set, and every specific price here should be assumed to have moved. Where we describe two listings as the same product, that inference rests on an identical brand, model name, product photograph and rating count, which is how Flipkart pools feedback; we have not bought or physically compared any units. Carrying more than one listing for a product, pooling ratings across a product or a product series, and displaying a seller-supplied MRP are all ordinary and lawful marketplace practices, and no wrongdoing by any platform, brand or seller is alleged or implied anywhere on this page. An MRP is the figure a listing displays, supplied by the seller rather than by the platform, and we have not verified that anything sold at it, so every percentage quoted here is arithmetic over two numbers a seller chose rather than a measured saving. Reporting that two sellers list an identical white-label product under different brand names is a description of what the listings showed, not an assessment of those products or sellers. The method described here is a way of reading published information and is not a guarantee that a cheaper listing exists for any given product. Prices, listings and stock change without notice and can differ at checkout. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay and does not affect what is reported here.
