Big Billion Days 2026: 381 Flipkart Prices Before the Sale

Flipkart's own Big Billion Days store page, read on the morning of 21 September 2026, states that the Big Billion Days sale will kick off on 9th October 2026 and that the countdown has officially begun. The Flipkart homepage on the same morning carried exactly one Big Billion Days element: a footer link titled “Upcoming Big Billion Days”.

That matters because the sale is already being described in a lot of places as running now, with an “up to 90% off” headline attached to it. On 21 September there is no Big Billion Days pricing on Flipkart. What there is, is ordinary September pricing — and that is the number worth writing down.

So this page is a baseline. We read 381 live listings across eight categories this morning and recorded what each one costs, what MRP it is stated against, and how many people have rated it. On 9 October you can open the same categories and see what actually moved.

Across all 381 listings we read, the median discount badge on an ordinary September morning is 52 per cent. Two hundred and five of the 381 already display 50 per cent or more. Thirty-three already display 80 per cent or more.

This is the single most useful thing to know before a sale event. A banner reading “up to 80% off” describes a badge that 115 of these 381 listings were already beating or matching three weeks early. The badge is the gap between the selling price and the maximum retail price the seller states on the listing — it is not a measure of how much the price has fallen recently, and nothing obliges it to change when a sale starts.

The practical version: note the rupee price of the specific thing you want, today. Not the percentage, not the category, not the brand. The rupee figure on the listing you would actually buy. That is the only number that can tell you on 9 October whether the sale did anything.

Of the 381 listings, 115 carried a badge of 70 per cent or more. Every single one came from three categories: kurta sets (49), headphones (37) and running shoes (29).

Not one smartphone, laptop, television, air conditioner or washing machine reached 70 per cent. The smartphone shelf's median badge is 27 per cent and its deepest is 47; laptops sit at a median of 25 per cent; air conditioners 37; washing machines 39; televisions 42. These are the categories a big sale event is usually sold on, and they are the categories where the percentages are smallest.

The pattern is not mysterious. In categories where a manufacturer sets and polices a list price — phones, laptops, large appliances — the stated MRP is close to what the thing actually sells for, so the gap is small. In categories where any seller can state any MRP, the gap can be as large as the seller likes.

Sort the same 381 listings by how many people have rated them and the relationship is close to linear. The 139 listings that publish no rating count at all have a median badge of 70 per cent. The 155 listings with a thousand ratings or more have a median badge of 38 per cent.

Both ends contain real products. The point is that the deepest percentages sit where the fewest people have bought and reported back, which is the opposite of what a shopper hunting a bargain instinctively assumes. If you are using the badge to decide what to look at first, you are sorting your way towards the listings with the least evidence behind them.

One listing in the whole read reached 90 per cent — a jknt 1+EarBudsPro-3 Bluetooth earbud at Rs. 1,376 against a stated MRP of Rs. 13,999, carrying three ratings. That is the “up to 90% off” number, in full, on 21 September.

These are the twelve shallowest badges in the read. They are almost entirely manufacturer-controlled categories, and several of them carry very large rating counts — a Whirlpool washing machine at 13 per cent off has 36,134 ratings; a Samsung Galaxy F06 at 3 per cent off has 25,786.

Samsung's Galaxy M07 sells at Rs. 11,903 against a stated MRP of Rs. 11,999 — a badge of one per cent. If Big Billion Days moves anything, it is listings like these where a change will be unambiguous, because there is no room to manufacture one by restating the MRP.

And these are the twelve deepest. Nine of the twelve publish no rating count or fewer than five ratings. Eleven of the twelve cost under Rs. 1,000. Every one of them is already at a percentage most sale banners advertise as a peak — eighteen days before the sale opens.

There is nothing improper about any of this. Stating a high maximum retail price is legal and commonplace across Indian retail, and a Rs. 380 kurta set may be perfectly good value at Rs. 380. The claim we are testing is only the arithmetic one: that a large percentage tells you a price has fallen. On this evidence it does not.

Write down rupee prices, not percentages. Open the listing you want, screenshot it, and keep the number. Everything else on the tile can be restated.

Expect the movement in the manufacturer-controlled categories. Phones, laptops, TVs and large appliances start from a small badge, so any genuine sale cut shows up clearly. Those are also the categories where bank-card and exchange offers usually do more work than the listed price — read the offer terms on the product page rather than the banner.

Treat a jump in the badge with suspicion, not excitement. A listing that showed 60 per cent in September and 85 per cent in October has either cut its price or raised its stated MRP, and the tile will not tell you which. The rupee figure will.
