Amazon's Indian Prime page showed four prices on 31 August 2026 — Rs. 399 a year, Rs. 799 a year, Rs. 299 a month and Rs. 1,499 a year — but only three plans. The monthly and annual Prime buttons share one column in Amazon's own benefit grid.

That makes the first decision a billing one, not a benefits one: twelve months of the Rs. 299 plan is Rs. 3,588 against Rs. 1,499 for a membership that is identical row for row.

Four price points, three actual plans

Amazon's Indian Prime page listed four buttons on 31 August 2026 — Prime Shopping Edition at Rs. 399 a year against a struck Rs. 499, Prime Lite at Rs. 799 a year, Prime at Rs. 299 a month and Prime at Rs. 1,499 a year.

Those four buttons are only three products. The benefit grid underneath them has three columns, not four: the Rs. 299 monthly and Rs. 1,499 yearly buttons point at the same tier and share a single column of ticks. They are the same membership sold on two billing cycles.

That matters because the two cycles are not priced alike. Twelve months of the monthly plan is Rs. 3,588. The annual plan is Rs. 1,499 for a membership whose grid is identical row for row.

Prime Shopping EditionYearlyRs. 399Rs. 499Rs. 33.25Delivery and shopping benefits only
Prime LiteYearlyRs. 799Rs. 66.58Adds Prime Video on 1 device, HD 720p, with ads
PrimeMonthlyRs. 299Rs. 299.00The full tier, billed every month
PrimeYearlyRs. 1,499Rs. 124.92The same full tier, billed once a year
💡 The four buttons are three plans. If you are choosing between Rs. 299 a month and Rs. 1,499 a year, you are not choosing between two tiers — you are choosing how to pay for one. Nothing on the page is added or removed by picking monthly.

What each plan actually includes

The grid below is Amazon's own, read off the page. Every row is either a tick, a cross or a value; we have transcribed them as published rather than summarising them, because the differences between the three tiers are almost entirely in the media rows.

Delivery and shopping are the constant. Unlimited free fast delivery, same-day and one-day delivery, the extra 5 per cent on Prime-only offers, early access to sale events and 5 per cent cashback on the Amazon Pay Credit Card appear on all three tiers — including the cheapest.

Everything else is a media benefit, and that is what the Rs. 399, Rs. 799 and Rs. 1,499 ladder is actually selling.

Read the Lite column carefully. Prime Lite carries Prime Video, but on one device, at HD 720p, ad-supported, and with a cross against “buy ad-free at extra cost” — Amazon's own FAQ says Lite members must upgrade to Prime before they can buy the ad-free option at all. Music, Reading and Luna are crosses on Lite too.

Monthly versus yearly: the Rs. 2,089 gap

Twelve months at Rs. 299 is Rs. 3,588. The yearly button for the same tier is Rs. 1,499. The difference is Rs. 2,089 — the monthly cycle costs about 2.4 times the annual one for a membership that is identical in every published row.

Read as a monthly rate, the ladder inverts neatly: Shopping Edition works out to Rs. 33.25 a month, Lite to Rs. 66.58, Prime bought annually to Rs. 124.92, and Prime bought monthly to Rs. 299.

The monthly plan earns its price in exactly one situation — a short, definite need. One month of Prime before a sale event, or a single month of video, is Rs. 299 and stops. Anything past five months and the annual plan is already cheaper.

Can you move between the plans mid-membership?

Amazon's own FAQ on the same page says you can upgrade from Prime Shopping Edition to either Prime or Prime Lite, and from Prime Lite to Prime, at any time during your membership, by visiting amazon.in/prime. The page does not publish what the upgrade costs or how a part-used term is credited, and we have not run an upgrade, so we cannot tell you what you would be charged. Cancellation is handled at amazon.in/mc, and the same FAQ says auto-renewal can be switched on or off there at any point in the term — unless the membership was bought through a telecom partner or billed through Google, in which case Amazon directs you to that partner instead.

💡 Device limits are per benefit, not per plan. Amazon's FAQ states that shopping benefits have no simultaneous-use restriction, video runs on one device on Lite and up to five (including two TVs) on Prime, and music is one device at a time on any plan that includes it.

Which plan the arithmetic points at

If you are buying Prime for delivery and sale access, Shopping Edition at Rs. 399 carries every one of those rows and nothing you would not use. It is the whole shopping membership at 27 per cent of the price of the full one.

If you want Prime Video properly — more than one screen, on a TV, in 4K — the Rs. 1,499 annual plan is the only tier that does it, and it brings Music, Reading and Luna with it. Prime Lite sits awkwardly between the two: Rs. 400 more than Shopping Edition for one 720p screen with ads.

The one plan the arithmetic never points at is Rs. 299 a month for a full year. Same grid, Rs. 2,089 more. Read Amazon's four buttons as a billing choice hidden inside a price list, and the page becomes much easier to shop.

Our Amazon bank offers tracker covers the card discounts that stack on top of any of these plans, and the Amazon sale calendar tracks when the early-access benefit is actually worth something.

The short version

Rs. 399 buys the entire delivery-and-deals membership. Rs. 1,499 adds all the media. Rs. 799 adds one ad-supported 720p screen and nothing else, and Rs. 299 a month is the same thing as Rs. 1,499 a year with Rs. 2,089 added to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Amazon Prime cost in India in 2026?
On 31 August 2026 amazon.in/amazonprime listed four prices: Prime Shopping Edition at Rs. 399 a year (against a struck Rs. 499), Prime Lite at Rs. 799 a year, Prime at Rs. 299 a month and Prime at Rs. 1,499 a year. The Rs. 299 monthly and Rs. 1,499 annual buttons are the same membership on two billing cycles.
Is Amazon Prime monthly or yearly cheaper?
Yearly, by a wide margin. Twelve months of the Rs. 299 monthly plan costs Rs. 3,588 against Rs. 1,499 for the annual plan — Rs. 2,089 more, or about 2.4 times — and Amazon's benefit grid shows the two sharing one identical column of benefits. Monthly only makes sense for a short, definite need; past about five months the annual plan has already cost less.
What is the difference between Prime Shopping Edition and Prime Lite?
Rs. 400, and it buys video only. Both plans carry unlimited free fast delivery, same-day and one-day delivery, the extra 5 per cent on Prime-only offers, early sale access and 5 per cent Amazon Pay Credit Card cashback. Shopping Edition has a cross against every Prime Video row; Lite adds ad-supported video on one device at HD 720p. Neither includes Prime Music, Prime Reading or Amazon Luna.
Does Prime Shopping Edition include Prime Video?
No. On the grid we read on 31 August 2026, Prime Shopping Edition carries a cross against ad-supported viewing, ad-free purchase, device count and video quality alike. It is a delivery-and-shopping plan: the Rs. 399 buys fast delivery, Prime-only pricing and early sale access, and no media benefits at all.
Can I upgrade from Prime Lite to Prime later?
Amazon's FAQ on the same page says yes — Shopping Edition can move up to either Prime Lite or Prime, and Lite can move up to Prime, at any point during the membership via amazon.in/prime. Amazon does not publish the upgrade price or how a part-used term is credited, and we have not tested an upgrade, so we cannot tell you what it charges. Cancellation and auto-renewal are managed at amazon.in/mc.
Prices & codes last verified: 31 August 2026
Every plan name, price, struck price, billing cycle and benefit row on this page was read from amazon.in/amazonprime on 31 August 2026, as displayed to a logged-out visitor browsing from India with the delivery location set to Mumbai 400710, and is reported as published. The benefit grid was transcribed from Amazon's own tick and cross icons on that page; where the page prints a value rather than an icon — device counts, video quality, viewing devices — that value is quoted verbatim. Amazon's page shows four price buttons over three benefit columns because the monthly and annual Prime buttons share a column; that reading is ours and is stated as such. The per-month equivalents, twelve-month totals, the Rs. 2,089 difference and the 2.4x multiple are our own arithmetic over Amazon's published prices rather than figures Amazon states. A struck price is a reference figure Amazon supplies and we have not verified that Shopping Edition was sold at Rs. 499. Prices exclude taxes or fees added at checkout and take no account of bank offers, telecom bundles or partner subscriptions, which are priced separately and are not covered here. We have not bought, upgraded, downgraded or cancelled a membership, so nothing here reports delivery speed, streaming quality, catalogue contents, upgrade charges or refund behaviour, and no comparison against any other subscription is made or implied. Amazon changes Prime pricing and benefits without notice, so this is one day's read; the price and grid at your checkout are the ones that apply. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay, and nothing here was reviewed or approved by Amazon.
