Zoutons Picks — Amazon India, August 2026

Twenty appliances read on 27 August, Rs. 2,509 to Rs. 25,740 - and eight of the 36 listings a microwave search returns cannot microwave anything.

Prices & codes last verified August 27, 2026

We read 36 non-sponsored Amazon listings across five microwave searches on 27 August 2026. Eight of them are not microwaves: they are oven-toaster-grills, and they own the entire shelf below Rs. 5,190. Among the real microwaves the badge runs backwards - the listings with thousands of ratings discount by a median 15 per cent, and the ones nobody has rated claim up to 45. Two state an MRP a hundred times their price.

Every price below was pulled from Amazon on August 27, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Amazon coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

“An MRP of Rs. 8,49,900 on a Rs. 8,499 microwave is not a discount. It is a decimal point in the wrong place, rendered as a 99 per cent badge.” Zoutons Editorial Team

Four rules for buying a microwave on Amazon

First: check it is a microwave - if the title says OTG or Oven Toaster Grill, it bakes and cannot reheat, and that is the whole shelf under Rs. 5,190. Second: decide between solo, grill and convection before you compare prices, because solo only reheats, grill only browns and only convection bakes; if you will never bake, the Rs. 6,490 Panasonic does the same daily job as the Rs. 25,740 LG. Third: treat a badge over 40 per cent as a question rather than a saving - on this shelf it usually sits on a listing with fewer than ten ratings, and twice it sits on an MRP with a misplaced decimal point, the same defect we found on the gas stove shelf. Fourth: prefer a ceramic or enamel cavity and check the warranty on the magnetron specifically. Then check the live coupon page before checkout.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: the other 16 listings in the pull. Five more OTGs between Rs. 3,490 and Rs. 4,799 were left out because three already make the point that a microwave search returns baking ovens - among them a Cadlec 28-litre at Rs. 3,490 whose 71 per cent badge is the largest non-erroneous one in the read. We left out both Bosch built-ins, at Rs. 39,790 and Rs. 49,650, because a built-in is a fitted-kitchen purchase rather than a countertop one and neither carries more than six ratings. We also left out the second Midea convection sharing the first one's single five-star rating, the second LG 28-litre sharing the convertible's 581 ratings, a G-PLUS 25-litre repeating the Gplus 30-litre already seated, and a Panasonic 20-litre second listing at Rs. 7,475 that repeats the Rs. 6,490 model's cavity and function.

What we look for

We check the appliance is actually a microwave

Eight of the 36 listings returned by microwave searches on amazon.in are oven-toaster-grills priced Rs. 2,509 to Rs. 6,465. An OTG bakes and grills with heating elements and cannot microwave food at all. The cheapest genuine microwave in the pull is Rs. 5,190, so every rupee figure below that belongs to a different appliance.

We read the discount against the rating count

The 13 listings in this pull with 1,000 or more ratings carry a median discount of 15 per cent. The nine with fewer than ten ratings carry 14, 16, 29, 29, 32, 41 and 45 per cent, plus two at 99. A big badge on this shelf is usually a sign of a soft reference price, not of a bargain.

We refuse to print an MRP that is a decimal-point error

Two listings state an MRP exactly one hundred times their selling price - Rs. 8,49,900 on a Rs. 8,499 grill microwave and Rs. 16,99,000 on a Rs. 16,990 convection. Amazon renders both as 99 per cent off. We seat both listings because the defect matters, but we set the reference price equal to the selling price so no card repeats the claim.

We say what solo, grill and convection actually do

Solo reheats and defrosts only. Grill adds a radiant element that browns a surface. Convection adds a fan that circulates hot air, which is the only one of the three that bakes and roasts. Air fry is that same convection fan run hot and fast. This decides whether the extra Rs. 5,000 is worth anything to you.

We check whether a rating count belongs to one listing

Amazon pools review counts across a product family. The LG 28-litre charcoal convection at Rs. 17,740 and the LG 28-litre convertible at Rs. 25,740 both show 581 ratings; two different Midea convection models both show a single five-star rating. We seat one listing per pooled family and say so on the card.

FAQs

What is the cheapest microwave oven on Amazon India right now?

In our read of 36 non-sponsored listings on 27 August 2026, the cheapest genuine microwave was a Midea 20-litre solo at Rs. 5,190, followed by a Panasonic 20-litre solo at Rs. 6,490. Everything priced below that in the same search results was an oven-toaster-grill: a Bajaj 10-litre OTG at Rs. 2,509, a Pigeon 20-litre at Rs. 3,899, a Cadlec 28-litre at Rs. 3,490 and five more up to Rs. 6,465. An OTG cooks with radiant heating elements exactly as a small conventional oven does - it toasts, grills and bakes, and it cannot microwave food. If your requirement is reheating dinner in ninety seconds, no amount saved on an OTG helps, because it does not do that job at any speed.

Is a 99% discount on an Amazon microwave real?

No. Two of the 36 listings we read carried a 99 per cent badge and both are decimal-point errors in the listing data. A Star Electronics 20-litre grill microwave selling at Rs. 8,499 states an MRP of Rs. 8,49,900, and a Faber FMW Instacook 29-litre selling at Rs. 16,990 states Rs. 16,99,000 - in both cases exactly one hundred times the selling price. No 20-litre grill microwave has ever been sold for eight and a half lakh rupees. We seat both products because the defect is worth showing, but we have set the reference price equal to the selling price on those cards so that no price field on this page repeats the claim. The same hundred-fold pattern turns up regularly on Amazon's home and kitchen shelves.

Solo, grill or convection - which microwave should I buy?

Work backwards from what you will cook. A solo microwave heats food from the inside by exciting its water molecules: it reheats, defrosts and steams, and that is all. It cannot brown, crisp or bake, and it starts at Rs. 5,190 here. A grill model adds a radiant element above the cavity, usually quartz, which browns a cheese topping or crisps chicken skin - IFB's 20-litre grill was Rs. 9,990 in this read. A convection model adds a fan that circulates hot air, and only that one bakes and roasts properly; the cheapest with real customer evidence behind it was Panasonic's 23-litre at Rs. 11,750. Air fry, where it appears, is the convection fan run hot and fast with a mesh basket rather than a separate technology. If you will never bake, the extra Rs. 5,000 buys nothing.

Why do the best-rated microwaves have the smallest discounts?

Because the discount is arithmetic over a stated MRP, and how believable that MRP is varies enormously by brand. In this pull the 13 listings with 1,000 or more ratings had a median discount of 15 per cent: Panasonic's 4,323-rating solo was 4 per cent off, IFB's 6,908-rating convection 9 per cent, LG's 1,712-rating convection 12. Those brands sell the same models through dealers at those reference prices, so the numbers cannot drift far. The nine listings with fewer than ten ratings showed 14, 16, 29, 29, 32, 41 and 45 per cent, plus the two hundred-fold errors. A large badge on this shelf is a signal to check the rating count, not a signal to buy.

What size microwave do I need - 20, 23 or 28 litres?

Twenty litres takes a small plate and is tight for a standard 26-centimetre dinner plate, which will scrape the walls as it rotates. Twenty-three to twenty-five litres is the practical minimum for a household that reheats full plates, and 25 litres is where the price step is smallest - Godrej's 25-litre solo was Rs. 7,650 against Panasonic's 20-litre at Rs. 6,490. Twenty-eight litres takes a nine-inch cake tin and a tray of vegetables, which is what makes a convection model genuinely useful; Samsung's 28-litre convection was Rs. 13,490 against IFB's 20-litre convection at Rs. 12,490, and those eight extra litres are the best value step on this page. Thirty-two litres is for cooking for six or more and otherwise wasted counter space.

More Amazon coverage on Zoutons

How Zoutons picks deals Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every selling price, stated MRP, discount percentage, rating average and rating count here was read on 27 August 2026 from amazon.in search results across five queries - microwave oven, solo microwave oven, convection microwave oven, grill microwave oven and microwave oven 20 litre - sorted by popularity rank, with sponsored placements dropped and no account logged in. The pull returned 36 listings; 20 are seated, chosen to cover every appliance type and the full price range after removing listings whose photograph duplicated one already used. Two listings state an MRP exactly one hundred times their selling price - Rs. 8,49,900 against Rs. 8,499 and Rs. 16,99,000 against Rs. 16,990 - which we identify as decimal-point errors in the listing data rather than discounts; on those two cards the reference price is set equal to the selling price and the discount to zero, and the stated figure appears only in the body text where it is named as an error. We have not contacted the sellers concerned and make no claim about intent. Every other MRP is the figure the listing displays, and we have not verified that any appliance was ever sold at it, so all percentages here are arithmetic over Amazon's own two numbers. Rating averages and counts are Amazon's own published figures, are not independently verified, and are in at least two cases pooled across a product family rather than counted per listing - the cards say so where it applies. Capacity, wattage, cavity finish, warranty and feature commentary is quoted from the listing titles and descriptions as printed and is reported rather than tested: we have not installed, run or measured any appliance on this page, and cooking guidance about solo, grill, convection and air-fry functions describes how those technologies work in general. Prices change frequently and can differ at checkout after a coupon or bank offer - re-check before paying.
