“A seat cover priced at Rs. 489 is struck through at Rs. 48,900. A dashcam at Rs. 3,264 is struck through at Rs. 3,26,400. Thirteen times over, the MRP is the price with two zeros added.” Zoutons Editorial Team

Five rules for buying car and bike accessories online

First: divide the struck price by the selling price before you believe a badge, because thirteen listings in this read return exactly one hundred. Second: distrust an MRP that is not a whole rupee, since a figure like Rs. 1,066.67 is a per-unit calculation rather than a printed maximum retail price. Third: read the rating count rather than the discount, the same evidence-first rule we applied across the power tools wall. Fourth: on protective equipment, treat price as the specification - cuff-length leather gloves at Rs. 2,992 and mesh gloves at Rs. 235 are both listed as riding gloves and only one will stay on in a slide. Fifth: check what a quoted number is measured at, because pascal figures on handheld vacuums are read at the motor inlet with no nozzle fitted and 51 W on a charger is the combined budget across both ports, the same specification-versus-marketing distinction we drew on the charger wall.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: 160 of the 183 rows. Thirteen were excluded on principle rather than on merit - the listings whose struck price is exactly one hundred times what they charge, among them two dashcams at Rs. 3,264 and Rs. 3,990 that carry 4,372 and 2,714 ratings respectively and are plainly real products with real crowds. We are not saying they are bad; we are saying we will not print a 99 per cent badge computed from Rs. 3,26,400. A further group went for the fractional-paise problem: the air-freshener aisle, where struck prices of Rs. 1,066.67, Rs. 1,088.89, Rs. 1,034.44 and Rs. 373.75 generate badges between 20 and 95 per cent on listings holding 42,085, 39,691 and 10,049 ratings - three of which publish that identical 10,049 count between them, a pooled figure rather than three independent ones. Beyond those we left out five further Portronics rows between Rs. 249 and Rs. 899 repeating the brand's 62 per cent median, three DDPAI dashcams between Rs. 3,199 and Rs. 5,999, four Royal Enfield rows at 10 to 22 per cent that the two seated gloves establish, three GoMechanic rows, three DETACHI and three XTRIM seat-cover rows between Rs. 236 and Rs. 549, and a long tail of unbranded seat covers, mats and organisers between Rs. 52 and Rs. 11,999 that repeat the deep-badge-thin-evidence point the seated cards already make. Nothing was excluded for being a bad product, and no listing was excluded for having a low average.

What we look for

We check the arithmetic of a stated MRP before we print the discount

Thirteen of the 183 rows in this read claim 99 per cent off, and in every single one the struck-through price is exactly one hundred times the selling price: Rs. 489 from Rs. 48,900, Rs. 199 from Rs. 19,900, Rs. 3,264 from Rs. 3,26,400, Rs. 229 from Rs. 22,900, Rs. 412 from Rs. 41,200. We opened six of the thirteen product pages and the hundredfold figure is printed there too, so it is what the seller entered rather than a fault in our reading. None of the thirteen is seated on this page. A discount computed from an impossible number is not a discount and we will not put one in front of a reader, however good the underlying product may be.

We drop stated MRPs that carry fractional paise, because they are computed rather than stated

A second and quieter defect sits in the air-freshener aisle, where the struck prices are Rs. 1,066.67, Rs. 1,088.89, Rs. 373.75 and Rs. 1,034.44. A maximum retail price is a whole-rupee figure printed on a pack; a number ending in two-thirds of a rupee is a per-unit or per-pack calculation that the listing is displaying as though it were an MRP. Those rows produce badges between 20 and 95 per cent that describe arithmetic rather than a price history, so we excluded the whole aisle from our picks and say so here instead of quietly seating them.

We set a thousand-vote floor before a rating becomes a rating pill

This read holds 478,426 ratings across 183 rows and 68 of the usable rows clear a thousand votes. Sixteen of our 23 seated picks carry a rating pill; the rest show their count in the specification line without one, including a leather glove with 410 votes, a second helmet lock with 635, a mesh glove with 96 and a vacuum with 74. That floor is what lets us seat the weak cases honestly rather than avoiding them - the 3.5 average on 10,701 ratings is seated because a category page that hides its poorly-rated best-seller is not describing the category.

We separate the specifications that mean something from the ones that do not

GSM on a microfibre cloth is the weight of the fabric and it decides whether the cloth lifts water or smears it. Cuff length on a motorcycle glove decides whether it stays on in a slide, and leather abrades where polyester melts. Watts on a corded vacuum and volts on a 12 V one describe real power. Against those, the pascal figures quoted on handheld vacuums are measured at the motor inlet with no attachment fitted, so they are not comparable between brands, and a combined 51 W across two charger ports is not 51 W per port. We say which is which on the card rather than repeating a number because it is large.

FAQs

Why do some Amazon listings show 99 per cent off?

Because the seller has entered a maximum retail price that is exactly one hundred times what they are charging, and the site computes the badge from it. In our August 12, 2026 read of 183 Amazon car and bike accessory listings, thirteen rows claimed 99 per cent off and every single one showed that same hundredfold relationship: a seat cover at Rs. 489 struck through at Rs. 48,900, a memory foam cover at Rs. 199 struck at Rs. 19,900, a dashcam at Rs. 3,264 struck at Rs. 3,26,400, a helmet mount at Rs. 229 struck at Rs. 22,900. We opened six of the thirteen product pages and the same figure appears there, so it is the seller's own entry rather than a fault in how we read the page. The practical test takes two seconds: divide the struck price by the price you would pay. If it comes to exactly 100, the discount is arithmetic performed on a typo or a deliberate inflation, and the only real number on the listing is what you pay.

What does it mean when an MRP has paise in it, like Rs. 1,066.67?

It means the figure was calculated rather than printed on a pack, and it should not be read as a maximum retail price at all. A genuine MRP in India is a whole-rupee amount printed on the product's own label. In the air-freshener aisle of this read we found struck prices of Rs. 1,066.67, Rs. 1,088.89, Rs. 1,034.44 and Rs. 373.75 - numbers that arise when a multi-pack or per-unit price is divided out, then displayed in the strikethrough position where a stated MRP normally sits. The discounts computed from them, which ran between 20 and 95 per cent, therefore describe arithmetic rather than any price the product ever carried. We excluded that whole aisle from our picks rather than seating listings whose badge we could not stand behind, even though several of them carry very large and entirely genuine rating counts.

Are Rs. 235 riding gloves as protective as Rs. 2,992 ones?

No, and the difference is not a matter of degree. Two features separate a protective motorcycle glove from a comfort glove, and both are visible in the listing. The first is cuff length: a protective glove extends over the jacket sleeve and fastens there, so it cannot be pulled off your hand in a slide, which is the most common way an injury happens even when the rider was wearing gloves. Short-cuff gloves come off. The second is material behaviour under abrasion: leather scuffs and stays intact, while polyester and nylon mesh melt and tear. The cheap gloves in this read are short-cuff textile gloves with touchscreen fingertips, and they are genuinely useful for sun, wind and grip on a daily commute. They are not protective equipment. If you want protection, buy to a published standard from a specialist rather than to a price, and treat the marketplace category name as marketing.

Is a cordless car vacuum worth five times the price of a USB handheld?

It depends entirely on what you are cleaning. In our read, a USB-rechargeable 3-in-1 handheld at Rs. 349 carried 18,018 ratings at 4.4 - the best average of any large sample on the page - while a cordless machine at Rs. 3,034 carried 8,970 at 4.1. Both are sold as car vacuums and they are not the same class of machine. The Rs. 349 unit runs a small motor for a few minutes and is designed for crumbs and surface dust on a seat; bought with that expectation, it is excellent value and the ratings say so. A cordless machine at ten times the price has a brushless motor and a real battery, and it will pull grit out of seat seams and mats that the smaller one skates over. A third option is a 12 V corded vacuum running off the car's accessory socket, which never runs out of charge but never leaves the car. Ignore the pascal figures when comparing: they are measured at the motor inlet with no attachment fitted and are not comparable between brands.

Which pick on this page is the safest buy?

The kitchen gizmo 3-in-1 car vacuum at Rs. 349 is the one we would point most people at, on evidence: 18,018 ratings at 4.4 is the best combination of sample and average anywhere in the read, and at that price the expectation is easy to meet. For the thing that gets used every single drive, the Portronics 51 W dual-output car charger at Rs. 359 has 8,979 ratings at 4.4. For cleaning, the SOFTSPUN 900 GSM microfibre pair at Rs. 273 carries 12,416 ratings and the GSM figure is a real, checkable specification. And if you ride, the Vega cable lock at Rs. 183 with 8,759 ratings is the cheapest sensible protection against opportunist helmet theft. The listings we would avoid are not on this page at all - the thirteen claiming 99 per cent off, whose only trustworthy number is the one you pay.

More Amazon coverage on Zoutons

How Zoutons picks deals Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every price, stated MRP, discount percentage, rating and rating count here was read on August 12, 2026 from amazon.in's own search results across eight queries - car interior accessories, car seat cover, car dashboard camera, bike accessories helmet, car phone holder, car vacuum cleaner, car air freshener and bike riding gloves - with sponsored placements dropped and ASINs deduplicated, and all of them can change without notice. That yielded 183 rows, of which we seated 23. The derived figures we quote - that thirteen rows carry a struck price exactly one hundred times their selling price and that we confirmed six of them against their own product pages on the same day, that a further group of air-freshener rows carry struck prices with fractional paise such as Rs. 1,066.67 and Rs. 373.75, that the remaining 170 rows have a median discount of 55 per cent and a median price of Rs. 410, that nine of those rows discount by 10 per cent or less, that 68 of them carry a thousand ratings or more, and that the read holds 478,426 ratings in total - are ours, calculated from those rows. Because our pull fixed eight queries and read one page of results each, these findings describe the listings we read rather than Amazon's whole automotive catalogue; no tyres, no batteries, no oils and no helmets themselves are represented. A stated MRP is the seller's own figure and we have not verified that any product here was ever sold at it. We have not fitted, ridden with, road-tested, crash-tested or laboratory-tested anything on this page. All suction, wattage, voltage, pascal, GSM, anti-bacterial, waterproof, anti-skid and touchscreen claims are quoted from the listings as the seller's own wording, reported and not endorsed. Nothing here is safety advice and this page must not be read as one: riding gloves, helmet locks and helmet cleaning products sold on a marketplace are not certified protective equipment unless the listing carries a recognised standard mark, a glove without cuff length or impact protection will not protect you in a crash whatever it is called, and anyone buying protective motorcycle equipment should buy to a published safety standard from a specialist rather than to a price. Fitment varies by vehicle, so confirm compatibility, mounting method, socket rating and the current selling price before you order.
