Zoutons Picks — Amazon India, August 2026

The 46 per cent phone is rated 3.3. The 13 per cent one is rated 4.1 by 3,176 people. Twenty-five picks from 33 Amazon listings.

Prices & codes last verified August 9, 2026

We pulled 33 smartphone listings from Amazon India's own search results on August 9, 2026, every one carrying a price, a stated MRP, a rating and a rating count, and sorted them by badge. The top of that list is a 46 per cent discount on a phone rated 3.3, twice, and a 45 per cent discount on the only phone in the read rated below three. The bottom of it holds a 4.4 from 531 people and a 4.1 from 3,176. The badge on this shelf is arithmetic against a claimed MRP, and it is pointing the wrong way.

Every price below was pulled from Amazon on August 9, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Amazon coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

“One phone's 64GB and 128GB trims are priced Rs. 1,000 apart, and their stated MRPs are Rs. 1,000 apart. That is not a former price. It is a markup.” Zoutons Editorial Team

Five rules for buying a budget phone on this shelf

First: never sort by discount here - the four deepest badges in our read belong to the two lowest-rated phones on the page. Second: read the rating count before the score, because a 5.0 from seventeen people and a 4.1 from 3,176 are different kinds of number, the same problem this series found when the newest aisle in the Indian kitchen turned out to be the least documented. Third: learn the brand's band - Samsung between 3 and 22 per cent, Lava 9 to 22, realme 14 to 43, REDMI 17 to 46 - and treat any listing outside its brand's band as the thing to check, not the thing to buy. Fourth: convert every badge into rupees, because a Rs. 21,000 claimed saving on a 2.5-star phone and a Rs. 3,000 one on a 4.1 are not comparable, an arithmetic this series has run before on six listings claiming MRPs exactly a hundred times their price. Fifth: check bank and card offers at checkout rather than in the listing - during the Freedom Sale window these move the real price more than most of the badges on this page do.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: eight of the 33 listings, all of them colour variants of handsets already seated - a second REDMI A7 Pro 5G 64GB in Mist Blue at the same Rs. 14,499, a second iQOO Z10 Lite 64GB in Titanium Blue at Rs. 16,999, second colours of the realme narzo 100 Lite in both storage trims at Rs. 17,499 and Rs. 15,499, a second realme NARZO 80 Lite at Rs. 12,999, a second Lava Bold N2 5G at Rs. 12,998, a second REDMI A7 4G at Rs. 12,499 and a second Samsung Galaxy M17 5G in the 6GB trim at Rs. 18,999. Amazon shares one rating pool across those variants, so seating them separately would have repeated both the price and the evidence. Where a genuine storage or RAM trim differs - the REDMI A7 Pro in 64GB and 128GB, the narzo 100 Lite in both - we seated each, because the price step and the MRP step are the point. Nothing was excluded for being a bad phone.

What we look for

We read the badge against the rating on every listing before we ranked anything

That comparison is what produced this page. The four deepest discounts in our 33-row read - 46, 46, 45 and 45 per cent - belong to just two phones, and those two phones hold the two lowest ratings on the shelf: 3.3 from 1,555 votes and 2.5 from 178. Meanwhile the highest score with a real sample, 4.4 from 531, carries a 14 per cent badge, and the largest sample in the read, 3,176 votes at 4.1, carries 13 per cent. Sorting this shelf by discount puts the weakest-rated phones on top, which is the opposite of useful.

We treat a stated MRP as the manufacturer's claim, not a former price

On this shelf the claim moves far more than the price does. One phone's 64GB and 128GB trims are priced Rs. 1,000 apart and their stated MRPs are Rs. 1,000 apart, which means the list price is being calculated from the selling price rather than remembered from a previous one. The largest gap in the read is Rs. 21,000 - a Rs. 25,999 phone claiming Rs. 46,999 - and the smallest is Rs. 300. Neither number can be checked by a shopper, so every card here prints the rupee price first and the badge second.

We name the brand's badge band, because the brand sets it

Samsung's seven listings carry badges of 3, 9, 12, 13, 21, 22 and 45 per cent; six of those are restrained and the seventh is on its worst-rated phone. realme's nine run 14 to 43, with four identical 38s across one product line. REDMI's nine run 17 to 46, the widest spread here. Lava's four run 9 to 22, the tightest. A discount that clusters by manufacturer is a pricing policy applied across a line, so knowing a brand's band tells you more about the next listing you click than the badge on it does.

We print the rating count next to every score and refuse to rank on thin ones

All 33 listings in this read publish a rating, but the samples run from 3,176 votes down to five. A 5.0 from 17 people and a 4.3 from five are not evidence; they are the arithmetic of a new listing. We attach a rating pill only where at least a hundred votes exist, state the count on every card regardless, and say plainly where a score is too thin to carry weight. Nothing on this page was used, benchmarked, charged, dropped or opened - chipsets, battery capacities, charging speeds, RAM, storage, camera resolutions and display refresh rates are quoted from the listings as the seller's own wording.

FAQs

Does a bigger discount on Amazon mean a better phone deal?

Not in this read, and often not anywhere. Of the 33 Amazon phone listings we read on August 9, 2026, the four deepest badges - 46, 46, 45 and 45 per cent - belonged to just two handsets, and those two carried the lowest ratings on the shelf at 3.3 from 1,555 votes and 2.5 from 178. The listing with the largest rating sample in the read, 3,176 votes at 4.1, was discounted 13 per cent, and the highest-rated phone with a real sample, 4.4 from 531, was discounted 14. The badge is calculated against a stated MRP that the seller sets, so it measures ambition in the list price rather than value in the phone.

Why is Samsung's discount always smaller than Redmi's or realme's?

Because Samsung sets its stated MRP close to its selling price on this shelf. Six of Samsung's seven listings in our read carried badges of 3, 9, 12, 13, 21 and 22 per cent, with gaps between price and claim as small as Rs. 300. REDMI's nine listings ran from 17 to 46 per cent and realme's nine from 14 to 43. A brand that claims Rs. 26,999 for a phone selling at Rs. 14,499 can print a 46 per cent badge; a brand that claims Rs. 11,999 for a phone selling at Rs. 11,699 cannot. Neither behaviour tells you anything about the handset - it tells you about the pricing policy behind it.

What is the best-evidenced phone in this read?

The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G at Rs. 19,999, with 3,176 ratings averaging 4.1 - the largest sample of the 33 listings we read - and a modest 13 per cent badge. Under Rs. 20,000 the best evidence belongs to the iQOO Z10 Lite 5G 128GB at Rs. 18,999 with 1,819 ratings at 4.2, and the highest score anywhere with a usable sample is the realme C71 4G at Rs. 11,999, 4.4 from 531. At the other extreme, a realme NARZO 100x shows a perfect 5.0 built from seventeen votes and a Samsung Galaxy F07 a 4.3 from five, which are not scores at all.

Is it worth buying a 4G phone in 2026 to save money?

Rarely, on these numbers. The cheapest 5G handset in our read was a Lava Bold N2 5G at Rs. 12,998, which is Rs. 251 less than a well-rated realme 4G phone at Rs. 12,999 and only Rs. 999 above the cheapest 4G listing on the page. Where 4G still makes sense is at the very bottom - a Rs. 9,099 Lava with 437 ratings at 3.8 - or where a specific 4G handset is rated far better than its 5G neighbours, as the Rs. 11,999 realme C71 is at 4.4. Otherwise the saving is small enough that you are buying a shorter useful life for a few hundred rupees.

How much phone does Rs. 15,000 actually buy on Amazon right now?

A 4GB/64GB or 4GB/128GB 5G handset with a large battery, and a rating somewhere between 3.3 and 4.0. In our read, Rs. 14,499 bought a REDMI A7 Pro 5G rated 3.3, Rs. 14,999 a Samsung Galaxy M17e 5G rated 3.8, Rs. 15,499 either a realme narzo 100 Lite 5G rated 4.0 or a 128GB REDMI A7 Pro rated 3.3, and Rs. 13,249 a Lava Bold N1 with 6GB of RAM. The clearest step up on the page is at Rs. 18,999, where an iQOO Z10 Lite 128GB carries 1,819 ratings at 4.2 and the listing names its chipset - which most of the rows below it do not.

More Amazon coverage on Zoutons

How Zoutons picks deals Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every price, stated MRP, discount percentage, rating and rating count here was read on August 9, 2026 from amazon.in's own search results across three queries - smartphone under 20000, 5g mobile phone and mobile phone under 15000 - with duplicate product codes removed, and all of them can change without notice, including during a live sale event. That yielded 33 rows, of which we seated 25. The derived figures we quote - that the four deepest badges belong to two handsets, that those handsets hold the two lowest ratings in the read, that Samsung's listings run 3 to 45 per cent and realme's 14 to 43, that four realme listings share an identical 38 per cent badge, that one handset's two storage trims are priced and claimed exactly Rs. 1,000 apart, and the rupee value of every discount - are ours, calculated from those rows. Because our queries fixed the price range, these findings describe the 33 listings we read rather than Amazon's entire phone catalogue; nothing above Rs. 32,000 is represented. A stated MRP is the manufacturer's or seller's own figure and we have not verified that any phone here was ever sold at it. Ratings and rating counts are Amazon's own, are not audited by us, and are pooled across colour variants of the same handset, so a count attaches to the model rather than to the specific colour you click. We have attached a rating pill only where at least a hundred votes exist. We have not used, benchmarked, charged, photographed with, dropped or opened any phone on this page. Chipset names, battery capacities in milliamp-hours, charging wattages, RAM and storage figures, camera megapixel counts, optical stabilisation, display sizes and refresh rates, IP and MIL-STD claims and software support commitments are quoted from the listings as the manufacturer's or seller's own wording, reported and not endorsed - and several listings in this read do not name their processor at all, which we note on the cards where it matters. We have made no assessment of real-world battery life, thermal behaviour, camera output, update delivery or service quality. Statements of category convention - that 4GB of RAM constrains an Android phone's second year more than its first, that 5G coverage in Indian cities now makes a 4G-only handset a deliberate compromise, or that quoted battery capacities are theoretical maxima - reflect general category understanding rather than any testing we performed. Product images are Amazon's own listing images, rehosted. Warranty terms, seller identity, exchange offers and bank-card discounts should be confirmed on the listing before you order.
