Zoutons Picks — AJIO Men's Footwear, August 2026

227 AJIO men's sneaker listings read on August 7. One brand holds 22 per cent of them inside an eight-point discount band. Another never breaks 35 per cent. Neither fact is about the shoes.

Prices & codes last verified August 7, 2026

Sort a marketplace shoe shelf by discount and you are not sorting shoes - you are sorting the numbers sellers typed into an MRP field. AJIO's men's footwear search makes that unusually easy to prove. We read 227 listings on August 7, and one brand accounts for fifty of them: RED TAPE, 22 per cent of the shelf, every listing discounted between 78 and 86 per cent, every price between Rs. 896 and Rs. 1,870. Fifty listings, eight points of variation. At the other end NIKE has nine listings and never breaks 35 per cent. AJIO shows no rating on any of the 227, so the 24 picks below are read on price, on stated MRP, and on what each brand's own range says about how it prices.

Every price below was pulled from AJIO on August 7, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our AJIO coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

Chapter One

Fifty RED TAPE Listings, All Between 78 and 86 Per Cent Off

RED TAPE is 50 of the 227 listings on this shelf - 22 per cent of everything a men's sneaker search returns - and every one of those fifty is discounted between 78 and 86 per cent. Not one above, not one below. Its entire price range is Rs. 896 to Rs. 1,870. That is one pricing policy applied fifty times, and it means that within RED TAPE the percentage carries no information at all.

Chapter Two

The Rs. 479 to Rs. 2,255 Middle, Where the Shelf Actually Lives

The shelf median badge is 59 per cent, and three listings in this chapter carry exactly that - at Rs. 697, Rs. 1,435 and Rs. 2,255. Here too is the comparison that breaks our own tidy theory: Campus is half Puma's price and discounts six points less deeply, so 'cheaper brand, deeper badge' is not a rule. What is a rule is that each brand occupies a narrow, characteristic price band and rarely leaves it.

NIKE's nine listings run Rs. 3,147 to Rs. 7,646 and never exceed 35 per cent off. ASICS runs 25 to 52. Puma's own ceiling pick discounts twenty-five points below its floor pick. The exception is a New Balance at 70 per cent, which we have seated rather than skipped, because a single model being cleared beats any brand-level rule and pretending otherwise would be tidier than the truth.

How to shop a footwear shelf that shows no ratings

Four habits this page's numbers support. First: sort by price, not by discount, because three shoes here at Rs. 697, Rs. 1,435 and Rs. 2,255 carry the identical 59 per cent badge - the percentage is ranking nothing. Second: check the brand's range before judging any single listing, since knowing that every RED TAPE pair sits between 78 and 86 per cent tells you instantly that a particular 84 per cent is not a find. Third: with no ratings published, weight return policy heavily, because fit is the variable that decides whether a shoe was worth buying and it is the one thing you cannot assess from a photograph - order the size you know in a brand you know, and treat an unfamiliar label at Rs. 300 as a bet rather than a purchase. Fourth: if you actually run, buy from the small group of listings above Rs. 2,400 where the running claim comes with engineering behind it, rather than from the much larger group under Rs. 2,000 where "running shoes" is a search term. Codes and bank offers that stack on these prices sit on our AJIO coupons page, re-verified daily by the deals desk.

What we skipped — and why

What we left out, and why: 203 of the 227 listings. The largest single group was RED TAPE itself - we seated two of its fifty, the top and the bottom of its badge band, because the other forty-eight sit between them and would have restated the same fact forty-eight times while filling the page with near-identical product photographs. The same logic applied to Puma's 23, adidas's 19 and ASIAN's 17: we took the floor and, where it was informative, the ceiling of each range. We also passed the large body of unfamiliar three-and-four-listing labels in the Rs. 250-600 band, which are visually and descriptively interchangeable and about which we can tell you nothing beyond their price. Nothing was excluded for being inconvenient: the New Balance at 70 per cent is seated precisely because it undercuts the rule this page describes, and so is the Campus pick that breaks the cheap-brand theory. Every skipped listing is still counted in the 227 and in every brand range, count and median quoted here.

What we look for

Three searches, two pages each, price and MRP both required

On August 7, 2026 we read three AJIO searches - men sneakers, men casual shoes and men sports shoes - across two pages each, and kept every listing returning both a selling price and a stated MRP, discarding the rest since a listing without an MRP cannot carry a badge and would distort every median here. That leaves 227 listings, the denominator for every count, range and median quoted on this page. Prices, stated MRPs and product descriptions are AJIO's own as they displayed that day.

Brands were counted and their ranges measured before anything was written

We grouped all 227 listings by brand and took the count, the badge range and the price range of each. RED TAPE: 50 listings, badges 78 to 86 per cent, prices Rs. 896 to Rs. 1,870. Puma: 23 listings, 20 to 68 per cent, Rs. 1,575 to Rs. 4,199. ADIDAS: 19 listings, 29 to 65 per cent, Rs. 1,750 to Rs. 4,319. ASIAN: 17 listings, 35 to 61 per cent, Rs. 639 to Rs. 1,549. Campus: 13 listings, 38 to 59 per cent, Rs. 764 to Rs. 1,760. NIKE: 9 listings, 15 to 35 per cent, Rs. 3,147 to Rs. 7,646. ASICS: 5 listings, 25 to 52 per cent, Rs. 2,400 to Rs. 5,249. The RED TAPE band is the tightest by a wide margin and the NIKE band the shallowest.

The obvious generalisation was tested, and it failed

The tempting story is that cheaper brands discount harder. On this shelf it does not hold and we would rather show that than hide it. Campus has a median price of Rs. 1,276 and a median badge of 51 per cent; Puma has a median price of Rs. 2,720 - more than double - and a median badge of 57 per cent, six points deeper. A New Balance running shoe at Rs. 2,550 carries 70 per cent while a Campus slip-on at Rs. 764 carries 49. What does survive is narrower and specific: RED TAPE's fifty listings never leave an eight-point band, and NIKE's nine never exceed 35 per cent. Those are observations about two brands, not a law about the shelf.

AJIO publishes no rating on any of these 227 listings

Not one of the 227 listings carries a star rating or a review count - the site does not show them on these search pages. That is a total absence rather than a thin sample, so no rating pill appears on any pick here and nothing on this page is ranked, compared or recommended by score. What that leaves is price, stated MRP and the seller's own description of the upper, the closure and the sole. For footwear, where fit and durability are the things that actually decide whether a shoe was worth buying, this is a serious gap and we would rather name it than fill it with an invented score of our own.

Nothing here has been worn by us

We have not tried on, walked in or run in any shoe on this page. Every specification quoted - mesh and PU uppers, knitted construction, round-toe and mid-top shapes, lace and slip-on closures, running and walking positioning - is the seller's listing claim, reported as a claim and not verified. Where a Rs. 1,750 listing is described as a running shoe we say so and separately note that a running claim at that price deserves caution, because the description is AJIO's and the caution is ours.

FAQs

Why are RED TAPE shoes always 80% off on AJIO?

We can tell you precisely how consistent it is and not why. Of the 227 men's footwear listings we read on August 7, 2026, fifty were RED TAPE, and every one of those fifty was discounted between 78 and 86 per cent - no exceptions in either direction - within a price range of Rs. 896 to Rs. 1,870. An eight-point band across fifty listings is not fifty separate pricing decisions; it is one policy applied at the brand level, which is a legitimate way to run a range and is worth knowing about before you treat any individual RED TAPE badge as a find. What it means practically is that within RED TAPE the percentage carries no information at all: sort by price, look at the shoe, and ignore the number in the largest type.

Why is NIKE barely discounted on AJIO?

Across the nine NIKE listings in our 227-listing pull, badges ran from 15 to 35 per cent, and the brand's cheapest pair at Rs. 3,147 was still above every other brand's ceiling except ASICS's. We do not know the mechanism and will not invent one - brand-mandated pricing, margin structure and stock age are all plausible and none is visible from outside the business. What we can say is what it means for you: the money you pay for a NIKE here is close to what the brand intends it to cost, and the small badge is a reasonable sign of that rather than a worse deal. If discount depth is what you are optimising, this is the wrong brand; if a specific shoe is what you want, the shallow badge should not put you off.

Do cheaper shoe brands discount more on AJIO?

Not reliably, and the data on this shelf says so clearly enough that we have built a pick around it. Campus has a median price of Rs. 1,276 and a median badge of 51 per cent. Puma has a median price of Rs. 2,720 - more than double - and a median badge of 57 per cent, six points deeper. A New Balance running shoe here is Rs. 2,550 at 70 per cent while a Campus slip-on is Rs. 764 at 49. So the appealing rule fails in both directions. The narrower version that does hold on this shelf is about specific brands rather than price tiers: RED TAPE's fifty listings never leave an eight-point band, and NIKE's nine never rise above 35 per cent.

Are Rs. 300 to Rs. 700 sneakers on AJIO worth buying?

As season shoes, often; as shoes you expect to keep, rarely - and this shelf gives you no way to tell the difference, which is the honest answer. AJIO publishes no star rating or review count on any of the 227 listings we read, so the usual check on a cheap unfamiliar label is unavailable. What that leaves is the price and the description. At Rs. 260 to Rs. 700 you are buying a synthetic upper on a moulded sole, and the realistic expectation is a monsoon season or a few months of light wear. That can be a perfectly rational purchase. What is not rational is reading an 87 per cent badge as evidence that you have got a Rs. 1,999 shoe for Rs. 260 - what you have is a Rs. 260 shoe. Where the cheap end is genuinely useful is with names that have been on Indian feet for decades, like the ASIAN pair at Rs. 639 or the Action slip-on at Rs. 697.

Which shoes on AJIO are actually suitable for running?

A far smaller set than the search results imply, and the price is the best available filter given that no ratings are published. The word running appears on listings here from Rs. 1,750 upwards, but the shoes with genuine running engineering behind them cluster above Rs. 2,400: the ASICS Gel-Contend at Rs. 2,400, the New Balance EVOI at Rs. 2,550, and the NIKE Winflo 12 at Rs. 7,646, which is the only listing in the whole pull that is unambiguously a current road-running model. Below roughly Rs. 2,000, a running description generally denotes a silhouette rather than a midsole. That does not make the cheaper shoes bad - the adidas Lightrun at Rs. 1,750 is a fine walking and gym shoe - but running several kilometres a week on a shoe designed to look like a running shoe is how people acquire shin splints.

More AJIO coverage on Zoutons

How Zoutons picks deals Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every price, stated MRP, discount percentage and product description here was read from ajio.com on August 7, 2026 across three searches of two pages each, and every aggregate figure - the 227 total, the brand counts, the badge ranges, the price ranges and the 59 per cent median - is computed from those listings as they displayed that day. AJIO's prices change frequently and nothing here is guaranteed to persist. The central findings, that RED TAPE accounts for 50 of the 227 listings with every one discounted between 78 and 86 per cent inside a Rs. 896 to Rs. 1,870 price range, and that NIKE's nine listings never exceed 35 per cent off, are descriptions of those search results on that day. They are a snapshot of one retailer's listing pages and not a measure of any brand's pricing policy in Indian retail generally, nor of market share, nor of units sold. We do not know why any brand's listings are priced as they are: that is negotiated privately between a retailer and a brand, nothing on the site explains it, and we have deliberately not speculated. Nothing here alleges misconduct by AJIO or by any brand named. A stated MRP is a seller's reference figure and is not evidence that anything ever sold at it; where one runs to more than four times the selling price we have said so in the seat rather than quietly using the percentage. AJIO publishes no star rating or review count on any of these 227 listings, so no rating appears anywhere on this page and nothing is ranked by score. Every specification quoted - upper materials, closure types, sole and silhouette descriptions, and running or walking positioning - is the seller's listing claim, reported as a claim and not verified by us. We have not worn, walked in or run in any product on this page.
