AC Price Amazon vs Croma September 2026: 1.5 Ton Rs. 34,500 vs Rs. 39,490

We read both air-conditioner aisles on the morning of 4 September 2026 — 36 listings from Amazon's search results and 46 from Croma's own search API. The overall medians look close (Rs. 33,740 against Rs. 35,642), but averaging across sizes hides the only difference that matters.

Split by capacity and the picture is sharp. At one ton the two shelves are effectively identical — a median Rs. 32,740 on Amazon against Rs. 32,990 on Croma, a gap of Rs. 250 that any coupon or bank offer would erase. At one-and-a-half tons, the size most Indian households actually buy, Amazon's median is Rs. 34,500 and Croma's is Rs. 39,490 — Rs. 4,990 apart.

The reason is stock mix rather than any retailer being dearer as a matter of policy. Croma's 1.5-ton shelf is 29 listings deep and runs all the way to a Rs. 55,090 O General, and it carries proportionally more 5-star and premium inverter stock; Amazon's 17 listings top out at Rs. 49,990 and cluster lower. Compare the specific model you want on both sites rather than trusting either median.

This is the finding we did not expect. Both retailers publish a discount badge and a customer rating; on this aisle, each one has exactly one of those two fields in working order.

Croma's ratings are empty. Thirty-five of its 46 listings carry a star rating, but the median number of votes behind those scores is two. Twenty-seven of the 35 have fewer than ten, and the best-supported listing on the whole Croma shelf has 39 ratings. Sorting that aisle by stars is close to sorting by chance.

Amazon's MRP field is broken on six of its 36 listings. Four show a “maximum retail price” that is exactly half the selling price — a Blue Star window unit at Rs. 27,705 against a stated Rs. 13,852, a Lloyd at Rs. 32,490 against Rs. 16,245, a Whirlpool at Rs. 34,140 against Rs. 17,070, a Daikin at Rs. 39,990 against Rs. 19,995. One shows Rs. 30,99,100 against a Rs. 30,991 selling price — a factor-of-100 error — and Amazon computes a 99% off badge from it. A sixth publishes no MRP at all.

We are describing what the two sites displayed to us on one morning, not alleging anything: these read as data errors of the ordinary kind, no wrongdoing by Amazon, by Croma or by any brand named is alleged or implied, and any of them may have been corrected since. The practical instruction is simply this — on Amazon read the reviews and ignore the badge; on Croma read the reference price and ignore the stars.

All 36 Amazon listings carry a review count, at a median of 151 reviews each, and only five have fewer than ten. The deepest is a Voltas 183V Vectra 1.5-ton inverter at Rs. 33,999 with 1,973 reviews at 3.6; behind it a Daikin 1.5-ton with 823, and two Carrier listings with 456 apiece.

Set that against Croma's median of two ratings and the difference is not one of degree. For a purchase in this price range, where the failure modes are installation quality, compressor noise and how the machine behaves in its third summer, a pool of several hundred owners is worth something and a pool of two is worth nothing.

That said, read those Amazon ratings with the usual care. The star averages on the deepest pools sit at 3.6 to 4.3 rather than the near-perfect scores thin pools tend to produce, which is what a real distribution looks like — but a review count is not a quality guarantee, we have not verified any individual review, and none of these machines was installed or run by us.

For a like-for-like entry point, the cheapest 1.5-ton unit was Rs. 28,999 on Amazon (Voltas, inverter window) against Rs. 29,990 on Croma (Croma's own label, 2-star fixed-speed window). The cheapest 1-ton was Rs. 27,200 on Amazon against Rs. 28,790 on Croma.

Croma's shelf carries something Amazon's does not: its own house label, which is 11 of the 46 listings and the biggest single brand on the aisle. Amazon's 36 listings spread across 16 brands with no house label among them. If brand breadth matters to you, Amazon has more of it; if you want a single accountable seller, Croma's own units are the shelf's cheapest cluster.

Buying one ton? It is a coin toss on price. Rs. 32,740 against Rs. 32,990 median. Decide on the specific model, the installation terms and whatever card offer you are holding, because the shelves are the same price.

Buying 1.5 tons? Check Amazon first, then check the same model on Croma. The Rs. 4,990 median gap is real but it is a stock-mix effect, so it will not necessarily survive on the particular unit you want — and Croma's 29-listing 1.5-ton shelf is nearly twice as deep as Amazon's 17.

Read the right field on each site. On Amazon, use the reviews — median 151 per listing, up to 1,973 — and treat the discount badge as unreliable, because six of 36 are computed from a broken reference price including one “99% off”. On Croma, the reference prices are coherent but the ratings are built on a median of two votes, so use the price and ignore the stars.
