An intercity coach on a wet ghat road, from AbhiBus's own header photograph — the kind of private bus journey this roadside assistance programme covers

If a private bus you booked on AbhiBus breaks down on a highway at night, there is a free programme that will send a vehicle to pick you up and take you up to 300 kilometres. It is published only inside abhibus.com/terms, it covers private operators and not state RTC buses, and you have one hour from the breakdown to ring the helpline or it does not apply. We read all thirteen clauses of the Roadside Assistance section on 11 October 2026, alongside the bus terms around it. Below: who qualifies, what the 300 km actually buys, the four things it will not pay for, and where a dispute goes. Published text only; not legal advice.

📅 Update log:
11 October 2026 — First publication. AbhiBus's terms page read in full from abhibus.com/terms: the User Agreement (eligibility, intellectual property, user representations, registration, the fraudulent activities and fake calls section, prohibited activities, user-generated contributions, contribution licence, review guidelines, mobile application licence, social media, submissions, third-party websites, advertisers, site management, privacy, IP infringements, fees and payments, term and termination, modifications and interruptions, governing law, corrections, disclaimer, limitations of liability, indemnification, user data, electronic communications, miscellaneous and contact) and the Terms of Service sections for Buses, Flights, Trains, Hotels, AbhiCash and the Roadside Assistance (RSA) programme. The RSA section's thirteen clauses are covered here in full: introduction, third-party service provider, eligibility, scope of service, limitations of liability, safety or security obligation, passenger data, exclusions and force majeure, liability for accidents or insurance claims, dispute resolution, severability, amendments and acceptance of terms. Also recorded on this read: the bus section's operator-compliance clause referencing the Motor Vehicles Act, the "arrival and departure times… are approximate" clause, the 30-minute boarding advice, the non-transferable ticket rule, the non-refundable convenience fee clause, and the anti-fraud statement naming AnyDesk and TeamViewer. The page carries no visible 'last updated' stamp; the read date is the only date asserted here. Terms verified 11 October 2026.

What the programme is, in AbhiBus's own words

Buried inside abhibus.com/terms, below the user agreement and the bus, flight, train and hotel sections, is a thirteen-clause document describing something AbhiBus does not advertise on its homepage: a complimentary Roadside Assistance programme.

The opening clause sets out the whole shape of it. "Le Travenues Technology Limited ('AbhiBus')… offers a complimentary Roadside Assistance ('RSA') program to eligible customers who have booked private bus tickets through the AbhiBus platform… This program is intended solely to facilitate coordination with an independent third-party service provider ('RSA Partner') in the event of an unplanned journey interruption, including mechanical breakdown or accident, that prevents the passenger from completing their journey. AbhiBus does not itself provide roadside assistance services."

Two things are true at once here, and both matter. It is a real benefit that costs you nothing and that most passengers will never find, because it is published only in the terms. And it is narrower than the phrase "roadside assistance" suggests — it is a lift, not a repair, and it comes with a one-hour clock.

The one-hour window is the clause that decides everything

Clause 3, on eligibility, ends with a sentence that is easy to miss and that governs whether any of the rest applies: "To avail of RSA, the passenger must report the journey interruption through the official AbhiBus helpline within one hour of the incident occurring."

One hour, through the helpline. Not the app chat, not an email, not a complaint raised the next morning when the replacement bus failed to appear. If your bus breaks down on a highway at two in the morning, the document's position is that the call has to happen by three.

That is the single most useful thing on this page, and it is the reason to read it before you travel rather than during a breakdown. Save the AbhiBus helpline number in your phone before a long private-operator journey, because the hour starts when the bus stops, not when you think to look for a policy.

Who is covered, and the RTC exclusion

Clause 3 limits the programme to "passengers holding a valid, confirmed ticket for a private bus journey booked through the AbhiBus platform", and then rules out a very large share of AbhiBus's own business: "This program does not apply to government-operated Road Transport Corporation (RTC) services or any bus not booked through AbhiBus."

That exclusion is worth sitting with. AbhiBus is best known in India as the booking channel for state road transport corporations — APSRTC, TGSRTC, KSRTC, UPSRTC and the rest — and we have written about their coupon codes separately. If your ticket is on an RTC service, this programme is not available to you. It covers private operators only.

The triggering event is also narrow. Assistance applies where there is "an unplanned journey interruption caused by mechanical or technical failure of the bus, or an accident or collision that immobilizes the bus and renders it incapable of continuing the journey." And explicitly not: "voluntary cancellations, operator-initiated route changes, scheduled halts, delays where the bus remains operational, or any force majeure event". A bus that is six hours late but still moving is not covered.

What you actually get: a lift, up to 300 km

Clause 4 is the scope, and it is precise about both the benefit and its ceiling. "Subject to availability, the RSA Partner will endeavours to arrange pickup of stranded passengers and transport them to their desired destination or the nearest major town/city, within a maximum distance of 300 kilometres from the location of the journey interruption." (The grammatical slip is the document's own and is reproduced rather than corrected.)

Three hundred kilometres is a genuinely useful number — it covers most intercity routes in India end to end. What it does not cover is a long-haul overnight that fails near its start: a Bengaluru–Hyderabad bus breaking down an hour out of Bengaluru is roughly 500 km from its destination, and the document's promise is a lift to the nearest major town, not to where your ticket said you were going.

The exclusions list is short and absolute: "Towing, mechanical repair, or recovery of the immobilized vehicle; Reimbursement of any costs, fares, or expenses incurred; Alternative accommodation, meals, or travel arrangements; Any service beyond passenger pickup and drop." If you give up waiting and book your own cab, nothing in this programme pays for it.

And the guarantee is explicitly withheld: "Service availability is subject to the geographic location of the journey interruption, availability of the RSA Partner's resources, road conditions, and other operational constraints. Immediate or guaranteed assistance is not assured."

The liability clauses, and what they leave with you

Clause 5 puts the programme on an "as is" and "as available" basis and states that "AbhiBus's role is limited to facilitating communication between the passenger and the RSA Partner." The exclusions that follow are broad: no liability for "Personal injury or death; Loss of baggage or personal property; Loss of time, opportunity, or profit; Inconvenience or mental distress; Any damages arising from the RSA Partner's acts or omissions."

And the cap: "In any event, AbhiBus's aggregate liability, if any, shall not exceed the value of the ticket purchased by the passenger on the AbhiBus platform." On a Rs. 900 fare, that is the ceiling the document puts on AbhiBus's exposure.

Clause 6 is blunter still: "AbhiBus is not liable for the safety, security, or well-being of passengers or their personal belongings at any point during or after the journey, including during RSA pickup or transit arranged through the RSA Partner. Passengers are solely responsible for their personal safety, valuables, and belongings at all times. AbhiBus strongly advises passengers to exercise caution and vigilance."

Clause 9 disclaims the insurance question entirely: AbhiBus "is not the insurer under, nor a beneficiary, insured, co-insured, or party to, any insurance policy obtained, maintained, or arranged by the RSA Partner", and "The provision, facilitation, or coordination of RSA Services by AbhiBus shall not be construed as an admission of fault, liability, responsibility, warranty, or guarantee of any kind."

None of this is unusual drafting for an intermediary, and stating that a contract allocates risk is not the same as saying it is unfair or unenforceable — a point this page makes no judgment on. What it does mean practically is that the programme is best understood as a free lift of last resort, not as cover.

The rest of the bus terms worth knowing on the same page

The RSA section sits inside a much longer document, and a few lines from the bus section around it change how a breakdown plays out.

AbhiBus positions itself as a facilitator throughout. On operator compliance: "The bus operator shall be solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, including but not limited to the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act… Any legal consequences, including prosecutions, penalties, fines, or actions resulting from violations of such laws… shall be the sole responsibility of the bus operator." And on enforcement action: "the user agrees to directly address such grievances or claims with the respective bus operator."

Timings are approximate. "The arrival and departure times shown on the ticket are approximate. User are advised to contact the bus partner to confirm the boarding point and departure time on the day of travel." Passengers are advised to "reach the boarding place no later than thirty (30) minutes before the scheduled departure time", to carry a printout plus a government photo ID, and tickets are "non-transferable".

On refunds, the service fee stays with AbhiBus. "Convenience/Service fee and other charges by Abhibus at the time of booking the tickets are non-refundable" — we read the full cancellation picture in a separate piece on cancellation charges.

And a genuinely good clause. On fraud: "AbhiBus representatives will never ask for any personal information like credit/debit card number, CVV, OTP, card expiry date, user IDs, passwords, etc. Also, you will never be asked to install any third-party applications, such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer, that grant access to your mobile or computer screen." Naming the remote-access apps by name is more useful than the generic warning most platforms publish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AbhiBus provide roadside assistance if my bus breaks down?
It coordinates it, free, on private bus bookings. The terms describe a "complimentary Roadside Assistance ('RSA') program" under which an independent third-party partner will "arrange pickup of stranded passengers and transport them to their desired destination or the nearest major town/city, within a maximum distance of 300 kilometres". Two hard conditions: the bus must be immobilised by mechanical failure or an accident, and you must report it through the official AbhiBus helpline "within one hour of the incident occurring". AbhiBus states it "does not itself provide roadside assistance services". Read on 11 October 2026 from abhibus.com/terms.
Is AbhiBus roadside assistance available on APSRTC, TGSRTC or other RTC buses?
No. The eligibility clause is explicit: "This program does not apply to government-operated Road Transport Corporation (RTC) services or any bus not booked through AbhiBus." Since AbhiBus is one of India's main booking channels for state transport corporations, that excludes a large share of its own tickets. The programme covers confirmed tickets on private bus journeys booked on the AbhiBus platform only.
How long do I have to claim AbhiBus roadside assistance?
One hour. "To avail of RSA, the passenger must report the journey interruption through the official AbhiBus helpline within one hour of the incident occurring." The route is the helpline specifically, not app chat or email. Practically, that means saving the AbhiBus helpline number before a long private-operator journey, because the hour runs from when the bus stops. We did not test the helpline, place a call or make any booking.
Will AbhiBus pay for a hotel or my own cab if the bus breaks down?
Not under this programme. The scope clause excludes "Reimbursement of any costs, fares, or expenses incurred" and "Alternative accommodation, meals, or travel arrangements", along with "Towing, mechanical repair, or recovery of the immobilized vehicle" and "Any service beyond passenger pickup and drop." Separately, "AbhiBus's aggregate liability, if any, shall not exceed the value of the ticket purchased by the passenger." Statutory consumer rights apply to a transaction regardless of how a programme's terms are drafted; nothing here is legal advice.
Where do AbhiBus disputes get settled?
Hyderabad. The RSA terms require good-faith discussion with customer support first, then "binding arbitration in accordance with the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (India), with the seat of arbitration in Hyderabad, Telangana", adding that the terms "shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, and courts in Hyderabad shall have exclusive jurisdiction over matters not subject to arbitration." Unlike several international platforms, the governing law here is Indian law — the forum is simply a single city.

Nothing on this page is legal, consumer-law, insurance, safety or regulatory advice or a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. Reporting that this programme is limited to private buses, excludes state Road Transport Corporation services, requires reporting within one hour, caps assistance at 300 kilometres, excludes towing, repair, reimbursement, accommodation and meals, places primary recourse with an unnamed third-party RSA Partner, shares a passenger's name, contact number and location with that partner, caps AbhiBus's aggregate liability at the ticket value, or routes disputes to arbitration seated in Hyderabad, is a description of what the published document says. It is not a statement that Le Travenues Technology Limited, AbhiBus, ixigo, any RSA Partner, any bus operator, any state Road Transport Corporation or any of their officers or employees has refused assistance to any passenger, failed to collect anyone, mishandled anyone's data, denied any refund, provided deficient service, operated any unsafe vehicle, engaged in any unfair trade practice, used any unfair contract term or dark pattern, or failed any statutory or contractual obligation, and no such wrongdoing is alleged or implied. Offering a complimentary coordination service through a third party, limiting its scope, and allocating liability and forum by contract are ordinary and entirely lawful commercial choices that many travel intermediaries make, and a company may change or withdraw such a programme at any time — which these terms expressly reserve the right to do, "at any time without prior notice". No bus operator named or referred to on this page is assessed, rated, recommended or criticised, no vehicle's safety, maintenance or roadworthiness is assessed, and nothing here should be relied on in deciding whether a journey is safe. In an emergency on an Indian highway, contact the emergency services on 112 and the police on 100 rather than relying on any commercial assistance programme. No fare, price, discount or coupon is stated on this page. Programme terms, scope, distances, timeframes, helpline numbers, partners and availability change without notice and the document described here may already differ from the one that applies to your booking; the terms published on abhibus.com at the time of your booking prevail over anything on this page.
