What Udemy Personal Plan Costs in India
Read from Udemy's own India pricing panel on 21 August 2026. Personal Plan is billed yearly: Udemy prints Rs. 500.00 /month, Rs. 6,000.00 /year, and labels the column "Starting at", which is why we quote it as an entry price rather than a flat one.
The second column on the same panel is Udemy's alternative to itself - buying courses one at a time, which it states runs Rs. 599.00 to Rs. 7,900.00 as a one-time purchase. Those two columns are the whole decision, and the rest of this page is arithmetic between them.

The subscription is annual, not monthly. The Rs. 500 figure is how Udemy expresses the yearly price per month - the panel says "Billed yearly". You are committing Rs. 6,000 up front, not Rs. 500 a month you can stop after two. Cancel-anytime stops the renewal, not the current year.
What a Single Udemy Course Actually Cost the Same Day
We read Udemy's own development listing on the same morning and took every card carrying a checkout price and a stated list price - 22 of them. Nineteen were priced Rs. 399. The other three were Rs. 409, Rs. 449 and Rs. 469. Not one was above Rs. 469.
That matters because Udemy's own plan panel, one page away, states that individual courses start at Rs. 599. Every course in our sample was below that stated floor. The bestselling bootcamps - the Python, web-development and React courses with the largest enrolments on the platform - were all at Rs. 399, against stated list prices of Rs. 3,199 to Rs. 3,549.

The stated list prices in that third column are Udemy's own strike-through figures and we have not verified that any of these courses was ever sold at them. What we can say is what the checkout price was on the day, and for 19 of 22 cards it was the same number: Rs. 399.
The Break-Even: How Many Courses Before the Subscription Wins
Rs. 6,000 a year is the number to beat. Divide it by what a course actually costs and you get the number of courses at which paying one-by-one becomes the more expensive route. At Rs. 399, Rs. 6,000 buys 15 courses outright - so the subscription only starts winning at the sixteenth.
Fifteen courses a year is roughly one and a quarter a month, every month, finished. That is the honest bar. If you are buying two or three courses a year - which is what most people do - the subscription costs you several times what the courses would.

The one case where the subscription is obviously right: if the courses you want sit at the top of Udemy's stated range rather than at the Rs. 399 promotional price, the maths inverts fast. At Udemy's stated Rs. 7,900 ceiling, a single course costs more than the entire year of Personal Plan. Check the price of the specific courses you want before deciding - not the category average.
What Personal Plan Does and Does Not Include
Udemy states Personal Plan carries 28,000+ courses, 20,000+ practice exercises and 9,000+ instructors, with a stated 4.5/5 average rating, curated from a catalogue it puts at 250,000+. The subscription is therefore about 11 per cent of the catalogue - the curated top-rated slice, in Udemy's description, across web development, IT certification, data science, web design, digital marketing and leadership, plus some personal-development topics.
The exclusion is the part worth reading twice. If a specific course is outside the collection, subscribing does not unlock it and you would pay for it separately on top. And Udemy's own comparison notes that a bought course is yours for life, while subscription access ends when the subscription does.
Personal Plan vs buying a course, in Udemy's own words
From Udemy's Personal Plan FAQ, read 21 August 2026: "With Personal Plan you gain access to over 28,000 of our top-rated courses and practice activities in top tech, business and personal categories. When you purchase a single Udemy course, you get lifetime access to that course and course material only."
And on coverage: "No. The 28,000 courses in personal plan are our highest rated courses in tech, business, and personal development... You can access all of the in-demand courses within Personal Plan while you're subscribed, and still purchase courses outside of the subscription at any time."
Billing, in Udemy's words: you are charged the subscription fee for the first billing cycle immediately on signing up for a paid subscription, or at the end of the trial if your subscription began with one, and then on the same day each year.
So Which One Should You Pay For
The honest read
If you finish fewer than 15 courses a year, buy them one at a time. At the Rs. 399 price Udemy's own listing showed on 21 August 2026, that is simply the cheaper route, and every course you buy stays yours after you stop paying.
If you genuinely work through a course or more a month, Personal Plan at Rs. 6,000 a year is the cheaper route - provided the courses you want are inside the 28,000-course collection rather than the wider 250,000-course catalogue. Check two or three specific course pages for the subscription badge before you commit the year.
The trap in the middle is the Rs. 500-a-month framing. It reads like a monthly subscription you can quit in March. It is billed yearly.
