Udemy's Personal Plan costs Rs. 500 a month in India and Udemy compares it against courses priced “Rs. 599 – Rs. 7,900”. Both numbers are real; only one of them is what you would actually pay.

Below: the plan price as the page shows it, the 21 course prices the development shelf was charging the same day, what the 28,000-course collection leaves out, and the break-even. Read 2 September 2026.

Rs. 500 a month, and what Udemy compares it against

Udemy's Personal Plan page, read on 2 September 2026, prices the subscription at “Starting at Rs. 500.00 per month. Cancel anytime”, billed monthly or annually. The annual figure is not shown to a logged-out visitor, so the only number on the page is the monthly one.

Next to it sits Udemy's own comparison card for buying courses one at a time: “Rs. 599.00 – Rs. 7,900.00, one time purchase”. Against that band, Rs. 500 a month looks obvious. The problem is that the band is Udemy's list pricing, and the storefront almost never sells at list.

On the same day, the development shelf was running its usual “Courses from Rs. 449.00” banner with a two-day countdown. The most popular bootcamps on it — the ones with hundreds of thousands of students — were Rs. 449 to Rs. 609, marked 86 per cent off list. That is the price the subscription is actually competing with.

💡 Rs. 500 a month is about Rs. 6,000 a year. At today's sale prices that is roughly a dozen courses bought outright, with lifetime access, from the full 250,000-course catalogue rather than the curated 28,000.

The two products, side by side

The subscription and the one-off purchase are not the same product, and the differences that matter are not the ones the pricing card leads with.

A bought course is yours permanently — Udemy's own FAQ says so: “When you purchase a single Udemy course, you get lifetime access to that course and course material only.” A Personal Plan course is yours while the card keeps clearing. The plan also reaches a curated slice of the catalogue, not all of it.

What the plan adds is breadth without commitment: 28,000 courses, 20,000+ practice exercises, AI Role Play simulations, labs and certification practice tests, plus the Udemy AI Assistant while you learn. If you genuinely graze — start six courses, finish two — that is worth more than any single purchase. Our September course price band page tracks what the one-off shelf is charging.

Not all Udemy courses are in the plan. Udemy states the 28,000 courses are curated from a catalogue of 250,000 — about one in nine — and that you can “still purchase courses outside of the subscription at any time”. Check that the specific course you want is inside the collection before subscribing for it.

What Rs. 6,000 buys if you just buy the courses

This is the development shelf as it was priced on 2 September 2026 — sale price, Udemy's list price beside it, and the discount Udemy itself displays. Twelve months of Personal Plan is about Rs. 6,000.

Fourteen of these twenty-one courses cost Rs. 509 or less. The Rs. 3,199 and Rs. 3,549 list prices in the middle column are the numbers behind Udemy's “Rs. 599 – Rs. 7,900” comparison card, and they are the prices almost nobody pays: the shelf was 86 per cent off across the board.

Read the two columns together and the subscription maths gets simple. If you finish more than one course a month, and the courses you want are in the curated 28,000, the plan wins. If you take four or five courses a year, buying them on sale is cheaper and you keep them.

The numbers Udemy publishes on the plan page

Every figure below is printed on udemy.com/personal-plan/ itself. The one Udemy does not put side by side is the ratio: 28,000 courses inside the plan against a catalogue it advertises as 250,000-plus.

Udemy says the collection is picked by its content experts using “insights from 75,000 global learners” and skews to in-demand professional topics — web development, IT certification, data science, web design, digital marketing, leadership — plus some personal-development subjects such as language learning and personal finance.

Billing, cancellation and the free trial, in Udemy's words

From the FAQ block on udemy.com/personal-plan/, read 2 September 2026: if your subscription begins with a free trial, you are charged the subscription fee for your first billing cycle at the end of the trial; if you sign up for a paid subscription the fee is charged immediately. Udemy states you will be billed “your subscription fee plus applicable transaction taxes on the same day each year”, and that your billing date is visible on the Subscriptions page in your account. Cancellation is self-serve: “you can manage or cancel your trial or subscription at any time”. Note that Udemy's page advertises the plan as billed monthly or annually but does not display the annual price to a logged-out visitor, and free-trial availability is not shown as a fixed term on the page — both are things to check at checkout rather than take from here.

So who is the plan actually for?

Three profiles come out of the numbers. The grazer — someone sampling four or five subjects a month, using the practice exercises and role-play labs, not finishing everything — gets more out of Rs. 500 a month than out of any single purchase.

The certification candidate is the closest call. The plan bundles practice tests and labs, but the specific AWS, Azure or CompTIA course you want may sit outside the 28,000; our IT certification price page shows those courses starting at Rs. 449 on the one-off shelf.

The one-course buyer — the person who wants the Python bootcamp and nothing else — should buy it. Rs. 459 once, kept forever, against Rs. 500 a month that stops working the day the card is declined.

The short version

Personal Plan is Rs. 500 a month in India, billed monthly or annually, for 28,000 of Udemy's 250,000-plus courses — roughly one in nine — plus 20,000+ practice exercises, and access ends when you stop paying.

Udemy compares it against a Rs. 599 – Rs. 7,900 one-off band, but the shelf was selling its biggest bootcamps at Rs. 449 – Rs. 609 on the same day. The honest break-even is about one finished course a month, and only if the course you want is inside the curated collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Udemy Personal Plan cost in India?
Udemy's Personal Plan page showed “Starting at Rs. 500.00 per month. Cancel anytime” to a logged-out Indian visitor on 2 September 2026, with the plan described as billed monthly or annually. The annual price is not displayed on the page before you sign in, so the only figure Udemy publishes publicly is the monthly one. At Rs. 500 a month, twelve months works out to about Rs. 6,000.
Is Udemy Personal Plan cheaper than buying courses?
It depends entirely on how many courses you finish. Udemy's own comparison card puts individual courses at Rs. 599 to Rs. 7,900, but those are list prices — on 2 September 2026 the development shelf was selling its most popular bootcamps at Rs. 449 to Rs. 609, marked up to 86 per cent off. Twelve months of the plan (about Rs. 6,000) is roughly a dozen courses at those prices, bought outright with lifetime access. If you finish more than one course a month the plan is cheaper; if you take four or five a year, buying is cheaper and you keep them.
Are all Udemy courses included in Personal Plan?
No. Udemy states the plan covers a curated collection of 28,000 courses selected by its content experts from a catalogue it advertises as 250,000-plus courses — about one in nine. Its FAQ says you “can still purchase courses outside of the subscription at any time”. Before subscribing for one specific course, check that the course itself is inside the collection.
What happens to my courses if I cancel Personal Plan?
Access is tied to the subscription. Udemy's FAQ draws the distinction plainly: with Personal Plan you gain monthly access to the collection, whereas “when you purchase a single Udemy course, you get lifetime access to that course and course material only”. Courses you bought outright are unaffected by cancelling a subscription; courses you were watching through the plan are not available once it ends. Udemy says you can manage or cancel a trial or subscription at any time from the Subscriptions page.
When does Udemy charge for Personal Plan?
Per the FAQ on Udemy's plan page: if your subscription starts with a free trial offer, the first billing cycle is charged at the end of the trial; if you sign up for a paid subscription directly, the fee is charged immediately after signing up. Udemy adds that you are billed the subscription fee plus applicable transaction taxes on the same day each year, and that your billing date is shown on your Subscriptions page.

Udemy's course prices change constantly with its promotional calendar — the shelf carried a countdown banner when we read it — and subscription pricing, free-trial availability, billing terms and the contents of the 28,000-course collection can change without notice; the price and terms shown at your checkout are the ones that apply. The annual Personal Plan price is not published to a logged-out visitor and is not stated here. Taxes are additional per Udemy's own billing wording.
