A washing machine, a refrigerator and an air conditioner from Reliance Digital's own listing photographs - three of the appliance categories the resQ Care Plan covers - on a colour-block banner

Reliance Digital offers the resQ Care Plan at the till on almost every appliance it sells, and publishes the terms in full on its own site. We read them on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India.

The plan's payout falls every year you hold it. A written-off fridge settles at 80% of its sum insured in year two and 20% in year six. A microwave invoiced under Rs. 10,000 settles at 50% in year two and 5% in year six - and the settlement arrives as store credit, not money.

📅 Update log:
26 Oct 2026: first published. Every percentage, period, fee, exclusion and quotation on this page was transcribed from Reliance Digital's own terms documents at reliancedigital.in/page/resq-care-plan-tc and /page/resq-home-care-plan-tc, located through the store's own page sitemap and read by plain fetch on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India. No plan was purchased, no appliance was registered, no claim was made and no engineer visit was booked, so no service behaviour has been tested.

Reliance Digital sells an extended-warranty and maintenance product called the resQ Care Plan alongside almost every large appliance it stocks. It publishes the full terms on its own site. We read them on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India, and every figure below is transcribed from those documents.

The headline fact is a table resQ publishes itself: what a written-off appliance pays out falls every year of the plan, from 80% of the sum insured in year two to 20% in year six - and for appliances invoiced under Rs. 10,000, from 50% down to 5%.

What a write-off actually pays, year by year

If a repair would cost more than 75% of the sum insured - or of what is left of it after earlier claims - the terms call it Beyond Economic Repair, and you stop getting a repair and start getting a settlement. The settlement is "% value of Balance Sum Insured", and resQ publishes the percentages:

Product range2nd year3rd year4th year5th year6th year
TV / Home Theatre80%70%50%30%20%
Refrigerator / AC / Air Cooler / Vacuum Cleaner80%70%50%30%20%

Water Purifier / RO over Rs. 10,00080%70%50%30%20%
Water Purifier / RO under Rs. 10,00050%40%20%10%5%
Read the two halves of that table against each other. A fridge written off in year two settles at 80% of its sum insured. A Rs. 9,000 microwave written off in year six settles at 5% - on a Rs. 9,000 invoice value that is Rs. 450 of store credit. Both are the same product, bought the same way, under the same plan name. The invoice value of the appliance decides which row you are in, and nothing on a shelf label says so.

The settlement is store credit, and the appliance stops being yours

Three consecutive lines in the terms govern what a BER settlement looks like in practice, and they are worth reading together. The settlement "shall be made only in the form of Electronic Gift Voucher or Store Credit or any other mode as decided by resQ". The "un-repaired defective device shall become property of Reliance". And "upon settlement, the cover under resQ Care Plan ceases to exist and the plan will end".

So the end state of a claimed-out plan is: no appliance, no cover, and a credit note spendable at the store that sold you both. That is a legitimate way to run an extended warranty and it is stated plainly in the published terms - but it is not what most people picture when they buy "protection" at a till.

The rules that decide what the plan is worth

The questionWhat the terms sayWhat it means in practice
How much a claim can be worth"only upto the Sum Insured or Product's invoice value whichever is lower"The lower of the two numbers is your ceiling for the whole contract.
Whether that ceiling refills"will not be renewed or restored on a yearly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis during the tenure"One ceiling for the entire plan, not one per year.
When a repair becomes a write-offcost of repair exceeding 75% of the Sum Insured or Balance Sum Insured is "termed as Beyond Economic Repair (BER)"Past 75%, you get the settlement table above instead of a repair.
What a settlement is paid in"shall be made only in the form of Electronic Gift Voucher or Store Credit or any other mode as decided by resQ"Store credit, not money, and the mode is resQ's choice.
Who keeps the broken device"The un-repaired defective device shall become property of Reliance"You hand the appliance over to collect the voucher.
What happens to the plan after a settlement"the cover under resQ Care Plan ceases to exist and the plan will end"One BER settlement ends the contract, whatever is left on it.
Cancelling and getting money back7-day "Free Look Period" for a full refund; "cancellation/termination and refund beyond 7 days" is "not be entertained"Seven days from purchase, and no claim may be made inside them.
Refund after a claim"No refund of RCP Plan shall be permitted if the Plan has been enforced or if any claim has been availed"Use the plan once and the fee is non-refundable.
If the plan is terminated"Reliance shall, under no circumstances be responsible for refunding any amounts to the Customer including due to termination of Contract by Customer or by Reliance"Termination pays back nothing, whoever triggers it.
Maximum liability"Reliance's liability hereunder to the Customer, if any, shall in no event exceed the total of the charges paid by the Customer to Reliance"Capped at what you paid for the plan.
The seven-day window is the one date to diarise. The terms give a "Free Look Period" of 7 days from purchase in which the plan can be cancelled for a full refund - and state that in those same 7 days "the Customer shall not be eligible for any claims under RCP". After day seven, cancellation is "not be entertained", and once any claim has been made no refund is permitted at all.

What the plan does not cover

The exclusion list is long and specific, which is to resQ's credit - it is published rather than buried. These are the ones most likely to matter to a household buying cover on a fridge, a washer or a laptop.

Not coveredThe terms' own wording
Physical, accidental and liquid damage"Does not cover physical, accidental or liquid damages"; separately, "water seepage" and "unauthorised servicing" void cover
Anything cosmetic"Aesthetic defects which do not affect functionality are not covered"; "wear and tear, gradual deterioration due to rust, cracks, flaws or fractures"
Plastic and metal parts, by nameshelves, trays, gaskets, fridge doors and handles, AC fins, grills, filters and casing, washer body cabinets, TV cabinets - each listed per product type
Consumables and accessories"magnetic media, adapters, batteries, stylus, docking stations, maintenance kits, add-on cards/devices"; remote controls are "not covered" for replacement, only repair
Software"Software support or installations, software-related issues"; for laptops "only diagnosis support will be provided"
Power problems and fire"Failures due to power fluctuations will not be covered"; "Burned & Fire Breakout cases will not be covered"
Rodents, and acts of God"unusual physical or electrical stress, or rat bite/urination"; fire, looting, arson, terrorism, flood, lightning and earthquake
Devices over five years old"More than 5 years old (from date of manufacture/purchase)" - the terms exclude AC, refrigerators and washing machines from this one
Moving house too far"Relocated from original place of installation to a location outside the municipal limits of the town/city where service centre is located" - also a termination trigger
Commercial use, and datacover is for "domestic use only"; "loss of data on device or on memory cards" is excluded
The single most consequential exclusion is the first one. "Does not cover physical, accidental or liquid damages" rules out the three things most people imagine a protection plan is for. resQ sells this plan as repair and maintenance cover for breakdowns - mechanical and electrical failure - and the terms define "Breakdown" in exactly those words. Accidental damage cover is a different product.

Buying cover for an appliance that is already out of warranty

The terms carry a separate section for out-of-warranty products, and the order of events in it is unusual enough to spell out.

StepWhat the terms say
An engineer must visit firstFor an out-of-warranty product, "provision of service shall be contingent upon payment in advance and verification/validation of Product at Customer's premises by authorized resQ engineer".
You pay before you know if you are coveredThe plan fee is paid in advance; the engineer then decides. The declaration in the terms has the customer agree that "resQ reserves its right to decline the RCP without giving any reason whatsoever".
A refusal costs Rs. 250 plus taxes"Fee of Rs. 250/- plus taxes shall be charged towards visiting charges" and the "balance amount will be refunded within 2 weeks".
The refund may come back as store credit"Mode of refund will be same as mode of payment or via Electronic Gift Voucher/Store Credit".

The free maintenance service, and what it actually is

Each plan year includes preventive maintenance. The terms state what that means per category: for a window or split air conditioner, "Jet Service - 1 Qty, Wet Service - 1 Qty" every year; for all other products, "1 Qty of PMS" a year. That is the entitlement in full.

For laptops the terms add free at-home service with pickup and drop for repairs claimable under the plan, and - on selected plans only - "Only 1 time Free of Cost change of Battery & Adapter, subject to conditions applied". For water purifiers, where consumables are covered at all, "consumables will be replaced only once a year during extended warranty period".

Five questions to ask at the till

One: what is the sum insured on this plan, in rupees? Every percentage in the settlement table is a percentage of that number, and claims are capped at it or the invoice value, whichever is lower. Two: is this appliance in the over-Rs. 10,000 row or the under-Rs. 10,000 row? The two rows differ by a factor of four in every year of the contract.

Three: is the failure I am worried about a breakdown? Physical, accidental and liquid damage are excluded in terms, as are power-fluctuation failures, fire, cosmetic damage and all the listed plastic parts. Four: am I inside seven days? That is the entire cancellation window. Five: am I willing to be paid in store credit? A written-off claim ends with a voucher, not a transfer, and the appliance becomes Reliance's property.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Reliance Digital resQ Care Plan actually cover?
Repair and maintenance for breakdowns - which the terms define as "mechanical and/or electrical defects and/or failure of a Device that causes it to not function in its intended manner" - plus preventive maintenance service each year. It is not accidental damage cover: the terms state it "does not cover physical, accidental or liquid damages", and also exclude cosmetic damage, listed plastic and metal parts, consumables, software, power-fluctuation failures and fire.
How much does resQ pay if my appliance cannot be repaired?
A published percentage of the Balance Sum Insured that falls each year. For a TV, fridge, AC, washing machine, dishwasher or a laptop invoiced above Rs. 10,000 it runs 80% in the second year, 70%, 50%, 30% and 20% by the sixth. For microwaves, geysers, inverters, small appliances, laptops and water purifiers invoiced below Rs. 10,000, the same ladder is 50%, 40%, 20%, 10% and 5%. A repair quote above 75% of the balance triggers this instead of a repair.
Is the resQ settlement paid in cash?
No. The terms state the settlement "shall be made only in the form of Electronic Gift Voucher or Store Credit or any other mode as decided by resQ". They also state that the un-repaired device "shall become property of Reliance" and that once settled, "the cover under resQ Care Plan ceases to exist and the plan will end".
Can I cancel a resQ Care Plan and get a refund?
Only inside the 7-day Free Look Period from the date of purchase, by surrendering the bill of purchase and acknowledgement slip; the refund goes back to the original payment mode. The terms say cancellation and refund "beyond 7 days" will "not be entertained", that no claim may be made during those 7 days, and that no refund is permitted once any claim has been availed.
Can I buy a resQ plan for an appliance already out of warranty?
Yes, with conditions. The fee is paid in advance and an authorised resQ engineer then visits to verify the product; resQ "reserves its right to decline the RCP without giving any reason whatsoever". If it declines, Rs. 250 plus taxes is kept as visiting charges and the balance is refunded within two weeks - possibly as an Electronic Gift Voucher or store credit rather than to your card.

Every percentage, period, fee, exclusion and quotation on this page was transcribed from Reliance Digital's own published terms documents - reliancedigital.in/page/resq-care-plan-tc and /page/resq-home-care-plan-tc - read by plain fetch on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India. No plan was purchased, no product was registered, no claim was filed and no engineer visit was booked, so nothing here describes how any claim is handled in practice, how long a repair takes, or how any individual case was decided. The settlement percentages, the 75% Beyond Economic Repair threshold, the 7-day Free Look Period, the Rs. 250 out-of-warranty visiting charge and every exclusion quoted are the documents' own words at the moment of reading. Plan terms, percentages, prices and covered-brand lists change without notice and may be amended, in the terms' own words, "from time to time, without any advance notice" - read the version handed to you at purchase, which is the one that binds you. Which plan variant applies to a given appliance, what sum insured is attached to it and whether any specific model is eligible are decided by resQ, not by this page. Nothing here is legal, financial or insurance advice, nothing on this page alleges any wrongdoing by Reliance Retail Limited or resQ, and a plan being structured in the way described above is ordinary commerce, reported as published fact.
