Nykaa's rating counts run from 64 to four and a half million while every score sits in a half-point band. And five pairs of listings share one count between them.
We read Nykaa's own listing data on July 29, 2026 across five makeup searches — lipstick, foundation, mascara, kajal, compact powder — and collected 86 in-stock products carrying a discount, every single one of them with a real customer score and a real rating count attached. That is genuinely more than most Indian retailers publish, and it is also where the trouble starts. The counts in that sample run from 64 to 4,462,037, a spread of roughly seventy thousand to one, while every score sits between 4.0 and 4.5. A half-point band cannot separate eighty-six products from each other, so the star on a Nykaa listing is decorative and the number beside it is the entire content — except that the site renders both at the same size, in the same colour, with the same weight. A 4.4 resting on sixty-four ratings and a 4.4 resting on four and a half million look identical until you read the small print. There is a second complication, and it is the one that gives this page its title. Five pairs among our 86 listings share an identical selling price, an identical MRP, an identical score and an identical rating count across two separately-titled listings: two Nykaa kajals at 92,953 apiece, two Faces Canada compacts at 132,337, two Faces Canada Magneteyes kajals at 113,260, and — most instructively — two Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascaras at 80,434 each, where one is the waterproof formula and one is not. Two genuinely different products, one pooled verdict. So a count on this site describes a product family rather than the thing in front of you, and a search returns fewer distinct products than the scroll suggests. What survives all of that is the price and the specification: transferproof also means drying, waterproof needs an oil-based cleanser, powder foundation suits oily skin where liquid suits dry, and no pooled rating in the world can tell you a foundation shade. Our skincare rating-counts piece found the same pooling one aisle over, and our impulse-versus-need piece covers how a Nykaa basket actually forms.
Every price below was pulled from Nykaa on July 29, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Nykaa coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

Four rules follow from a shelf where every score is between 4.0 and 4.5. First: read the count, never the star. In these picks the counts run from 64 to 4,462,037, and a 4.1 from sixty-four people tells you only that a product is not catastrophically broken. Second: treat the count as a family verdict rather than a product one, because five pairs of listings here share a single pooled figure — including a waterproof and a non-waterproof mascara sitting on the same 80,434. Third: notice that the badge and the evidence often point in opposite directions. The most-rated product in our read carries a 5% discount because it sells regardless, while Nykaa's own lipstick with a similar count carries 50% because a retailer can cut its own margin. Neither number is about quality. Fourth: on foundation, the shade decides everything and the rating can tell you nothing about it — buy a shade you have matched in person or already own, and treat the star rating as noise. Our Nykaa coupon page tracks the codes and bank offers that move the final number, and our Hot Pink Sale guide and fragrance piece apply the same reading elsewhere on the site.

Every price, MRP, rating and rating count on this page comes from nykaa.com's own listing data on July 29, 2026 — 86 in-stock discounted products across five searches covering lipstick, foundation, mascara, kajal and compact powder. Every one of the 86 carried both a score and a count, which is more than most Indian retailers publish.
They run from 64 to 4,462,037 — a spread of roughly seventy thousand to one — while every score in the sample sits between 4.0 and 4.5. A star average cannot separate products inside a half-point band, and the site displays a 4.4 resting on sixty-four ratings exactly as it displays a 4.4 resting on four and a half million. We have printed the count on every pick for that reason.
Five pairs in our 86 share an identical price, MRP, score and rating count between two separately-titled listings — two Nykaa kajals both at 92,953, two Faces Canada compacts both at 132,337, two Faces Canada Magneteyes kajals both at 113,260, two Maybelline Sky High mascaras both at 80,434 including one waterproof and one not. Treat a count as a verdict on a product line rather than on the specific listing you are reading.
A lipstick at Rs. 172 with 1,381,131 ratings scores 4.3; a foundation at Rs. 3,000 with 686,343 scores 4.4. A mascara at Rs. 705 with 80,434 ratings and one at Rs. 2,680 with 320 both score 4.4. Where the scores agree to within a tenth of a point, what is left is what the product actually does — transferproof also means drying, waterproof needs an oil cleanser, powder suits oily skin and liquid suits dry, and a pooled rating can never tell you a foundation shade. Prices and ratings read July 29, 2026.
Read the count rather than the star. In our July 29, 2026 read of 86 discounted makeup products, every score sat between 4.0 and 4.5 while the rating counts ran from 64 to 4,462,037. A half-point band across eighty-six products cannot separate them, so the star is decorative; the count is the part carrying information, and the site displays a 4.4 from sixty-four people exactly as it displays a 4.4 from four and a half million.
Because the counts appear to be pooled across a product family. Five pairs in our sample shared an identical price, MRP, score and rating count between two separately-titled listings — two Nykaa kajals at 92,953, two Faces Canada compacts at 132,337, two Magneteyes kajals at 113,260, and two Maybelline Sky High mascaras at 80,434 where one is waterproof and one is not. Treat the number as a verdict on the line, not on the specific listing you are reading.
In our read, Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation at 4,462,037 ratings, Nykaa Cosmetics So Creme lipstick at 4,262,695 and Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink at 4,100,771 — all three rated between 4.3 and 4.4. For value, a Swiss Beauty Pure Matte lipstick at Rs. 172 carries 1,381,131 ratings at 4.3, which is the strongest evidence-per-rupee combination on the page.
Because it does not need to be. The Fit Me foundation with 4.46 million ratings carried a 5% badge in our read — thirty-four rupees off — while Nykaa's own So Creme lipstick with a comparable count carried 50%. The difference is ownership rather than quality: a retailer discounting its own manufactured line is making a margin decision, where discounting a third-party bestseller means giving away money on something that sells regardless.
The ratings will not settle it for you. A Rs. 4,080 Charlotte Tilbury foundation scores 4.4 from 82,133 ratings and a Rs. 645 Maybelline scores 4.4 from 4.46 million. At the luxury end you are paying for finish and texture rather than coverage, and the samples are far thinner — 320 to 834 ratings on three of the four luxury picks here. What matters far more than either number, on any foundation, is getting the shade right, and a pooled rating cannot help with that at all.
