Lipstick averages 27.9% off here. Sunscreen averages 13.0%. The badge is telling you whether the product is bought because you want it or because you need it.
We read 101 discounted products from Nykaa's own listing payload on July 28, across sunscreen, face serum, shampoo, lipstick, face wash and body lotion, and the discount depth splits along a single visible line. Lipstick averaged 27.9% off across sixteen products. Scented body lotion averaged 24.6% across twenty. Shampoo sat at 20.8%. And then the other half of the store: face serum at 14.4%, sunscreen at 13.0% across nineteen products, and face wash at 12.9% across fifteen — the least discounted category of the six. Colour cosmetics and fragranced body care are marked down roughly twice as hard as sun protection and actives, and the reason is not complicated once you say it out loud. A lipstick and a perfumed body lotion are bought because they are appealing and cheap, which is demand that a percentage can create. A sunscreen, a barrier cleanser and a niacinamide serum are bought because a dermatologist, a friend or an internet consensus said so, which is demand that already exists and does not need buying. The clearest single pairing in our data: the most-rated lipstick here has 4.26 million ratings and sits at 50% off, while the most-rated skincare product, a deliberately boring non-foaming cleanser with 418,437 ratings and decades of clinical recommendation behind it, sits at 10%. Two of the biggest audiences on the site, two completely different badges. We have printed every rating count beside its score throughout, because Nykaa's counts are enormous and genuinely informative — and because they pool across shades and sizes, which we can prove: two separate Nivea body lotions in our pull carry the identical 315,134 count. And we have printed the places the pattern breaks rather than hiding them, including a Rs. 66 lip liner at 5% off. Our skincare rating-count piece goes further into reading those numbers.
Every price below was pulled from Nykaa on July 28, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Nykaa coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

If the badge is mostly telling you which side of the want-versus-need line a product sits on, four things follow. First: stop waiting for sunscreen and actives to go on sale, because in our reading they largely do not. Sunscreen averaged 13.0% off and face wash 12.9%, and the best-selling items in both categories sat at 10% and 5%. If your SPF has run out, buy it — a bottle you did not buy protects nobody, and the fifty rupees you are holding out for is not coming. Second: do the opposite in colour and scented body care, where 40% and 50% are routine and where nothing is urgent. A lipstick will still be there next month, and it will probably still be discounted. Third: read rating counts rather than scores, and remember they pool across shades and sizes — 4.26 million ratings tells you the formula works and tells you nothing about the colour you are looking at, and a Rs. 1,995 serum resting on 1,385 ratings is a considerably weaker proposition than a Rs. 593 one resting on 138,815. Fourth: the levers that actually move the price on the need side are the site-wide events and the first-order concessions rather than the product tiles — our Nykaa new-user codes, sale calendar and upcoming sales page track when sunscreen and serums genuinely move, which is a handful of times a year rather than continuously.

Across the 101 discounted products we read on July 28, the split is stark. Lipstick averaged 27.9% off across sixteen products and body lotion 24.6% across twenty. Sunscreen averaged 13.0% across nineteen, face wash 12.9% across fifteen and face serum 14.4% across fourteen. Shampoo sat between them at 20.8%. Colour cosmetics and scented body care are discounted roughly twice as hard as sun protection and actives.
Whether the purchase is wanted or needed. A perfumed body lotion and a lipstick are bought because they are appealing and affordable; a sunscreen, a barrier cleanser and a niacinamide serum are bought because a dermatologist, a friend or an internet consensus said to. Demand that arrives with a reason attached does not require a discount to convert, and in our pull it does not get one — the most-rated skincare product here, with 418,437 ratings, sits at 10% off.
Nykaa's counts are enormous and genuinely useful — 4.26 million on one lipstick — but they pool across shades, sizes and variants, so a count describes a product family rather than the exact item on screen. Two separate Nivea body lotions in our pull carry the identical 315,134 count, which proves the pooling directly. Every pill on this page is labelled with its count for that reason, and the range here runs from 1,241 to 4,259,933.
A Rs. 66 lip liner with 302,141 ratings sits at 5% off, because at that price there is nowhere for a discount to go. A soap-free face wash sits at 34% in a category averaging 12.9%, and we do not know why. An imported K-beauty essence sits at 30% in a serum category averaging 14.4%. These are averages across categories rather than a law that holds product by product, and we would rather show the exceptions than hide them. Prices and ratings read July 28, 2026.
Because it is bought on advice rather than on impulse, and demand that already exists does not need a percentage to convert. In our July 28 pull, sunscreen averaged 13.0% off across nineteen products while lipstick averaged 27.9% across sixteen. The best-selling sunscreens sat at 10% and 5%, with 130,546 and 63,024 ratings behind them. The practical conclusion is to stop waiting: if your SPF has run out, buy it, because a bottle you did not buy protects nobody.
Colour cosmetics, by a clear margin. Lipstick averaged 27.9% off in our July 28 pull, with two products at 50% and several at 40%, and scented body lotion was second at 24.6%. Shampoo sat at 20.8%. Against those, face serum was at 14.4%, sunscreen at 13.0% and face wash at 12.9% — the least discounted of the six categories we read. If you want a bargain rather than a specific product, the colour and fragrance aisles are where the percentages live.
They are real and unusually large, and they pool across shades, sizes and variants — so a count describes a product family rather than the exact item on your screen. We can demonstrate the pooling: two separate Nivea body lotions in our pull, sold under different names, carry the identical 315,134 rating count. That means 4.26 million ratings on a lipstick is strong evidence the formula works and no evidence at all about the shade you are considering. The counts still beat the scores, which cluster between 4.1 and 4.5.
The Aqualogica Glow+ dewy gel at Rs. 382 is the deepest discount among our picks at 15% and has 198,326 ratings behind it, which is a rare combination in this category. If you want a formulation with more thought in it, Dr. Sheth's ceramide sunscreen at Rs. 449 pairs SPF 50+ PA++++ with barrier lipids. Whatever you choose, read the PA rating as well as the SPF — SPF only describes UVB protection, and PA++++ is the UVA rating that matters just as much.
Check the rating count before the price. In our pull a Rs. 593 niacinamide serum carried 138,815 ratings while a Rs. 1,995 peptide serum from an imported brand carried 1,385 — a forty-fold difference in evidence for more than three times the money. Niacinamide has genuine support for barrier function and oil regulation at a fraction of the cost. That does not make the expensive serum bad; it means you are buying a hypothesis rather than a consensus, and it is worth knowing which one you are doing.
