Nykaa Makeup Prices September 2026: Median Rs. 314, Max 40% Off

We read 91 makeup listings from Nykaa on 7 September 2026 — lipstick, foundation, kajal, compact, mascara and concealer — every one carrying a price, an MRP and a rating. The shelf runs Rs. 66 to Rs. 1,709 at a median of Rs. 314, with 43 of the 91 under Rs. 300 and 64 under Rs. 500.

Now the number that makes this shelf unusual. The median discount is 15%. The deepest discount anywhere in the 91 is 40% — not one listing here is half off. And 26 of the 91 are discounted by less than 10%, which for the cheap end means a Rs. 66 lip liner marked down from Rs. 69.

The median MRP is Rs. 399 against a median price of Rs. 314 — 1.27 times. Hold that number, because we read two fashion shelves in the same week and it is the whole difference between them and this one.

On 7 September we also read 97 footwear listings on Myntra and 120 ethnic wear listings on AJIO. Set the three side by side and beauty is doing something completely different from fashion.

Myntra footwear: median Rs. 1,035 against a median stated MRP of Rs. 3,999, a median 70% off, and 18 of 97 listings with no rating at all. AJIO ethnic wear: median Rs. 613 against Rs. 2,433, a median 75% off, and zero of 120 listings carrying a rating. Nykaa makeup: median Rs. 314 against Rs. 399, a median 15% off, and 91 of 91 rated.

We are not saying anyone is doing anything improper, and we allege nothing against any of the three retailers or any brand — an MRP is a lawful ceiling, not a claim that anybody ever charged it, and different categories genuinely have different margins and different pricing customs. What we are saying is what a shopper can actually use: on this beauty shelf the MRP is close enough to the price that the discount means something, and on those fashion shelves it is not. A 15% off badge on Nykaa is a real 15% off a number in the same neighbourhood as the price. A 70% badge on a shoe is arithmetic over a number 3.9 times the price. All 91 of the 91 listings we read carry a star rating, and the pools behind them are the largest we have seen on any Indian shelf. Maybelline's Fit Me Matte+Poreless foundation shows 4,480,051 ratings at 4.4. Nykaa Cosmetics' So Creme lipstick shows 4,316,997 at 4.3. Swiss Beauty's Pure Matte lipstick shows 1,420,492 at 4.3.

It holds at the bottom of the price range too, which is the part worth knowing. The cheapest listing in the read — a Swiss Beauty lip liner at Rs. 66, marked down from Rs. 69 — carries 310,999 ratings at 4.4. A Blue Heaven kajal at Rs. 73 (3% off) has 10,192; a Blue Heaven volumising mascara at Rs. 87 has 32,778 at 4.2.

So the cheap end of this shelf is not the unevidenced end, which is exactly what it was on both fashion shelves we read. If you are buying makeup under Rs. 100 here, you are not choosing between a price and a track record. That does not make any of these products good — a four-million-rating average is still an average of strangers' opinions about a shade that may not suit you, and we have worn none of them.

Nykaa Cosmetics, the retailer's own label, is 11 of the 91 listings, and it is the one part of this shelf where discounts get deep: a median 30% off against 12% for every other brand here. Four of the six deepest badges in the entire read are its.

And it is still the dearer option. Nykaa Cosmetics' median price is Rs. 377 against Rs. 307 for everything else. The bigger percentage is being taken off a bigger number, and the result lands above the shelf.

That is the second inversion on this page. On Myntra's shoe shelf the house label HRX discounted hardest and was the cheapest thing there; here the house label discounts hardest and is the pricier choice. Between them the two shelves make the point better than either does alone: the badge does not reliably tell you which product is cheap, in either direction. What Nykaa Cosmetics does have is evidence — a median 95,579 ratings per listing against 23,618 for the rest of the shelf.

The category ladder here is steep and consistent. Kajal and eyeliner sit at a median Rs. 191, compact powder at Rs. 249, concealer at Rs. 269 and lipstick at Rs. 331. Foundation is the expensive end at Rs. 585 — three times the median kajal, and the only category here with a listing above Rs. 1,000.

That ordering is not arbitrary. Kajal and mascara are small volumes of a simple pigment formula sold in enormous numbers; foundation has to be manufactured and stocked in a whole ladder of shades, each one a separate line, and the ones that sell slowly still have to sit on a shelf. You are partly paying for the shade range.

For a first purchase that makes the cheap categories the low-risk ones and foundation the one to be careful with, because it is both the dearest and the hardest to get right unseen — a shade that reads correctly on a screen may not match your skin, and a Rs. 585 mistake is a bigger one than a Rs. 191 mistake. Buying makeup online is in that sense the opposite of buying a shoe: the size is not the problem, the colour is.

Stop waiting for a big badge on beauty. The deepest discount in 91 listings is 40% and the median is 15%, so a 15% off makeup listing is not a weak deal — it is this shelf's normal. If you have been holding a cart waiting for the 70% you see on clothes, it is not coming from this aisle.

Compare rupees, not percentages, especially against the house brand. Nykaa Cosmetics discounts at 30% against 12% for the rest and still lands dearer, Rs. 377 against Rs. 307 at the median.

Spend your care on the foundation, not the kajal. Foundation is the dearest category here (Rs. 585 at the median) and the one where an unseen shade can be wrong; kajal and mascara at Rs. 191 and Rs. 382 are far more forgiving.
