Two big Indian retailers, ninety-six hair dryers and straighteners between them, and exactly one product that both of them sell.
We read both shelves on the afternoon of 19 September 2026. Below: the single matched model and its two different MRPs, the brand-level discount rule running through Tata CLiQ's badges, and the full price list from each chain.
📅 Both shelves read 19 September 2026
Vega Adore straightener: Rs. 1,049 at Tata CLiQ vs Rs. 1,099 at Croma
Every Ikonic Professional listing at Tata CLiQ is badged exactly 21% off
📅 Update log:
19 Sep 2026 — first published. Croma's 49 listings came from croma.com's own search responses for "hair dryer", "hair straightener" and "grooming kit"; Tata CLiQ's 47 came from searchbff.tatacliq.com for "hair dryer" and "hair straightener". Both were read on the afternoon of 19 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India with nothing purchased. The matched-model check is ours, made by comparing brand and model names across the same session's results. Both retailers re-price without notice, so we re-read both shelves and log what has changed here.
One product is stocked by both chains, and it costs Rs. 50 less at the shelf claiming the bigger discount
We read both hair-tool shelves on the afternoon of 19 September 2026 — 49 listings at Croma, 47 at Tata CLiQ — expecting the usual matched-model comparison. There is almost nothing to match. Exactly one product appears on both shelves: the Vega Adore ceramic-plate straightener.
It is Rs. 1,049 at Tata CLiQ and Rs. 1,099 at Croma. Tata CLiQ's listing carries the bigger badge — 25% against Croma's 15% — and that gap is produced entirely by the MRP each retailer states: Rs. 1,399 at Tata CLiQ, Rs. 1,299 at Croma. Same iron, same plates, two list prices typed by two different companies.
The ratings differ too, which is the part most shoppers never see. Tata CLiQ shows 4.3 from 70 ratings on it; Croma shows 4.2 from 20. Neither number is wrong. They are two separate pools of customers rating the same product in two separate places, and the averages happen to agree to a tenth of a point — which is the most reassuring thing on this page.
| The one matched model | Croma | Tata CLiQ | Cheaper |
|---|
| Vega Adore straightener, ceramic plates, quick heat-up | Rs. 1,099 — 15% off a stated Rs. 1,299 | Rs. 1,049 — 25% off a stated Rs. 1,399 | Tata CLiQ by Rs. 50 |
| Ratings published on that listing | 4.2 from 20 ratings | 4.3 from 70 ratings | Tata CLiQ has the larger pool |
On Tata CLiQ the discount is set by brand, not by product
Read Tata CLiQ's 47 badges in a column and the pattern is impossible to miss. All seven Ikonic Professional listings are badged exactly 21% off. All five Ikonic Me listings are badged exactly 30%. Ten Vega listings are badged exactly 25%. The prices behind those badges run from Rs. 1,049 to Rs. 8,888.
That is a brand-level margin rule showing through the discount display, not 22 separate deals. It means the percentage on a Tata CLiQ hair-tool tile tells you which brand you are looking at and nothing about whether this particular dryer is keenly priced today.
Croma's badges behave differently: they are per-listing and range from 8% to 65%, with the deepest claims on its own house label. Croma states Rs. 20,000 for a 1600 W house-brand dryer selling at Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 3,500 for a straightener selling at Rs. 1,549 — while pricing another of its own dryers at Rs. 2,299 against Rs. 2,500, an 8% claim. Both shelves ask you to ignore the percentage; they just ask for different reasons.
₹ The rule that falls out of this page. A discount badge is only comparable between two retailers when the stated MRP underneath it is identical. Across these 96 listings that is true for exactly zero pairs, because only one product is stocked at both and the two chains state different MRPs for it. Compare the rupee price, then the rating count.
Two shelves that sell almost completely different things
Tata CLiQ's hair-tool shelf is a Vega and Ikonic shelf. Nineteen of its 47 listings are Vega and twelve are Ikonic (seven Professional, five Me) — 31 of 47 from two brand families. Add Ktein, Torima, Mr. Barber, VGR, Lifelong, Remington, Dafni and Groomiist and you have the whole shelf, plus three Dysons at the top.
Croma's is a house-label and Philips shelf. Thirteen of its 49 listings are Croma's own, twelve are Philips and eight are Havells — 33 of 49 from three names, with Braun, Xiaomi, AGARO, Pigeon, Beardo, Gillette, Groomiist and two Dysons filling the rest.
Neither chain's most popular products exist on the other. Philips, the brand with the most-rated dryer at Croma, does not appear in Tata CLiQ's 47 listings at all. Vega, which has the five best-sampled listings at Tata CLiQ, appears once at Croma. This is not two shops competing on the same catalogue; it is two different catalogues aimed at the same shopper.

Where each shelf publishes real feedback
Both chains publish ratings on roughly two-thirds of their listings and both are thin underneath: Croma has six listings with 20 or more ratings out of 49; Tata CLiQ has five out of 47. The median rating count, where a count exists at all, is 2.5 at Croma and 3 at Tata CLiQ. Several 5.0 averages on both shelves rest on a single rating.
The six well-sampled Croma listings are a Philips trimmer (111 ratings), the Philips EssentialCare dryer (97), the AGARO HD1214 (67), the Philips 3000 Series dryer (47), the Havells Keratin straightener (36) and the Vega Adore (20). All five well-sampled Tata CLiQ listings are Vega: the 3-in-1 styler (106), the Insta Glam dryer (84), the Blooming Air dryer (81), the Adore straightener (70) and a 2100 W dryer (31).
So if review history is how you choose, the two shelves answer different questions. Croma can tell you which Philips dryer people like. Tata CLiQ can tell you which Vega tool people like. Neither can tell you much about anything else it sells.

The cheap end, the Dyson end, and where the value actually is
Croma starts lower. Its own 1200 W dryer is Rs. 699, the cheapest listing across both shelves, and its 1100 W is Rs. 849. Tata CLiQ's floor is Rs. 775 — but that Rs. 775 buys a Vega Insta Glam foldable dryer carrying 4.4 from 84 ratings, which is more published feedback than anything Croma sells under Rs. 1,000. Cheapest and best-evidenced are not the same listing here.
Tata CLiQ goes higher. Both chains stock Dyson, but not the same machines: Croma lists the Airstrait and the Corrale, both at Rs. 29,900, while Tata CLiQ lists the Supersonic at Rs. 24,900, the Airwrap Origin at Rs. 32,900 and the Airwrap i.d. set at Rs. 45,900 — the dearest listing in this read, carrying the smallest badge on either shelf at 8%.
In the middle, Tata CLiQ has a whole price band Croma does not: the salon-facing Ikonic Professional dryers from Rs. 2,410 to Rs. 8,888, all badged 21%. Croma's equivalent middle is Philips and Havells at Rs. 1,349 to Rs. 3,099, all with restrained badges and, in three cases, samples worth reading.
Buy on the rupee price and the rating count - the badges are noise on both shelves
There is no shelf-wide winner here, because the shelves barely overlap. On the single product both chains stock, Tata CLiQ is Rs. 50 cheaper and shows three and a half times the ratings. On everything else you are choosing between two different catalogues: Philips and Havells with a house label underneath at Croma, Vega and Ikonic with a salon tilt at Tata CLiQ.
If you want the best-evidenced dryer under Rs. 1,500 across both, it is the Philips EssentialCare at Rs. 1,349 on Croma (97 ratings) or the Vega Insta Glam at Rs. 775 on Tata CLiQ (84 ratings). If you want a straightener, the Havells Keratin at Rs. 1,549 on Croma (36 ratings) and the Vega Adore at Rs. 1,049 on Tata CLiQ (70 ratings) are the two with anything behind them. Ignore every percentage on both pages: one chain sets them by brand, the other by whatever MRP it typed for its own label.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Croma or Tata CLiQ cheaper for hair dryers and straighteners in September 2026?
Neither, on most products — because the two shelves barely stock the same things. On 19 September 2026 we read 49 Croma listings and 47 Tata CLiQ listings and found exactly one product on both: the Vega Adore straightener, Rs. 1,049 at Tata CLiQ against Rs. 1,099 at Croma. On shelf-wide figures they are close: median price Rs. 1,749 at Tata CLiQ against Rs. 1,849 at Croma, median badge 25% against 26%. Croma's floor is lower (Rs. 699 against Rs. 775) and Tata CLiQ's ceiling is higher (Rs. 45,900 against Rs. 29,900). Checkout offers at either chain can change what you finally pay.
Why is the same Vega straightener badged 25% at Tata CLiQ and 15% at Croma?
Because the two retailers state different maximum retail prices. Tata CLiQ states Rs. 1,399 and sells at Rs. 1,049; Croma states Rs. 1,299 and sells at Rs. 1,099. The badge is the gap between each retailer's own two numbers, so the chain with the higher stated MRP prints the bigger percentage — and in this case it also happens to be the cheaper one, by Rs. 50. A stated MRP is the manufacturer's claim as reproduced by the retailer, and we cannot verify which figure, if either, was ever a live selling price.
Why do all the Ikonic products on Tata CLiQ show the same discount?
Because the discount is set at brand level rather than per product. In our read, all seven Ikonic Professional listings were badged exactly 21% off, all five Ikonic Me listings exactly 30%, and ten Vega listings exactly 25% — across prices from Rs. 1,049 to Rs. 8,888. That is a margin rule showing through the discount display. It means the percentage tells you which brand you are looking at, not whether this particular dryer is keenly priced.
Which hair dryer has the most customer ratings at these two retailers?
At Croma, the Philips EssentialCare at Rs. 1,349, with 4.6 from 97 ratings (a Philips trimmer has 111, but it is not a dryer). At Tata CLiQ, the Vega 3-in-1 styler at Rs. 1,649 with 4.1 from 106, followed by the Vega Insta Glam dryer at Rs. 775 with 4.4 from 84. Both shelves are thin overall: only six of Croma's 49 listings and five of Tata CLiQ's 47 carry twenty or more ratings, and several 5.0 averages on both rest on a single rating.
Where is Dyson cheaper, Croma or Tata CLiQ?
They do not stock the same Dyson machines, so the question has no clean answer. On 19 September 2026 Croma listed the Airstrait and the Corrale, both at Rs. 29,900, while Tata CLiQ listed the Supersonic at Rs. 24,900, the Airwrap Origin at Rs. 32,900 and the Airwrap i.d. set at Rs. 45,900. The Rs. 45,900 listing carries the smallest badge in this read, 8% off a stated Rs. 49,900. If you want a specific Dyson model, check that model's page at both chains and at Dyson's own India store before buying.
Prices & codes last verified: 19 September 2026
Both shelves behind this page were read on the afternoon of 19 September 2026 as served to a logged-out visitor in India, with nothing purchased and no account used. The Croma side is 49 listings from croma.com's own search responses for "hair dryer", "hair straightener" and "grooming kit"; the Tata CLiQ side is 47 listings from Tata CLiQ's own search service for "hair dryer" and "hair straightener". Every selling price, stated maximum retail price, discount percentage, star average and rating count is the retailer's own published figure reproduced without adjustment. The matched-model check is ours, made by comparing brand and model names across the same session's results; a product stocked by both chains but absent from these particular search responses would not appear here, so treat "one matched model" as a statement about these 96 listings rather than about the two retailers' full catalogues. We cannot verify whether any stated maximum retail price was ever a live selling price and make no claim either way — the same Vega Adore straightener is listed against Rs. 1,299 at one chain and Rs. 1,399 at the other. The observation that Tata CLiQ's badges cluster at fixed percentages by brand, and that Croma's deepest claims sit on its own house label, describes these listings on this date; no wrongdoing by Croma, Tata CLiQ, Tata Sons, or by Vega, Ikonic, Philips, Havells, Dyson, AGARO, Braun, Pigeon, Ktein, Torima, Mr. Barber, Remington, Lifelong, Groomiist or any other brand named is alleged or implied, and setting a uniform brand-level discount is an ordinary commercial practice. Wattages, motor types, plate coatings, ionic and keratin claims are each listing's own text, quoted as printed and not tested by us; nothing here was plugged in, timed or measured, and no judgement is offered on drying speed, heat accuracy or durability. Ratings and rating counts are each retailer's own figures reproduced without auditing them, and the samples behind most of them are very small. Prices change without notice; coupon codes, bank card offers, exchange offers, delivery charges and anything applied at checkout are not visible in listing data and can move your final price in either direction at either retailer, and the prices and terms shown at your checkout prevail over anything here. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay, and nothing here was reviewed or approved by either retailer or any brand named.
