One hundred and fourteen school bags read on 28 September. American Tourister prints a smaller list price than a Rs. 283 bag does.
A school bag is bought once a year against a deadline, which is exactly when a big red percentage does its work. We read 114 Flipkart listings on 28 September 2026, priced Rs. 121 to Rs. 1,291. The median one states an MRP 4.34 times what it charges, and 73 state at least four times. The interesting part is who does not: the four bags here from luggage brands you could name in a shop all claim less than the shelf median, and the biggest claim of the lot sits on a Rs. 283 bag.
Every price below was pulled from Flipkart on September 28, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Flipkart coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.
The cheapest end of this shelf holds the two widest gaps in the entire read - Rs. 283 and Rs. 294, both against a stated Rs. 2,999 - and also the bag with more ratings than anything else on Flipkart's school-bag shelf.
The floor of the shelf, and it is a plush toddler bag rather than a school bag.
Why it earned its spot The floor, and what it actually is.

Why it earned its spot The pattern is not a one-off.
This is where most of the 114 listings sit, where the first recognisable luggage brand appears at Rs. 329, and where one brand's 36,981 ratings turn up on three different bags.
A big crowd behind a bag whose strike-through is half again the shelf median.
Why it earned its spot Popularity and inflation together.

Why it earned its spot Third shared pool on the shelf.
The other half of the three-listing rating pool.
Why it earned its spot Why the pool matters at checkout.
Above Rs. 500 the stated multiples fall to 2.09x-2.93x, the branded bags appear, and - with one exception - the rating counts collapse from tens of thousands to double figures.
The second-lowest multiple on the page, from a recognisable brand.
Why it earned its spot The brand split, again.
Seventy-three thousand ratings at Rs. 548, and a 4.01x stated MRP.
Why it earned its spot Best-evidenced bag over Rs. 500.
Nearly three times the shelf's median price, and the second-smallest badge here.
Why it earned its spot The clearest brand contrast.
Near the top of the shelf on price, near the bottom on evidence.
Why it earned its spot Where the money stops buying feedback.
Two sellers, one bag, one price, one stated MRP, two rating counts.
Why it earned its spot The duplicate, half one.
The other half of the pair, with 40 ratings instead of 17.
Why it earned its spot The duplicate, half two.
First: ignore the percentage and read the two numbers. The median listing here states an MRP 4.34 times its price, so an 80% badge is the shelf's ordinary behaviour rather than an offer - and the bags with the smallest badges on this page are the ones from brands with shops. Second: check whether the rating count belongs to the bag. Four brands in this read display one count across two or three separate listings, including 36,981 ratings on three different Martucci bags; a pooled number tells you about a family, not about the bag in the photograph. Third: search the title before you buy. Two sellers here list a bag with the same title at the same Rs. 1,291 against the same stated Rs. 2,699, with 17 ratings on one and 40 on the other. Fourth: treat stated litres as a claim. Bags at Rs. 270 and Rs. 395 on this page claim 35 and 70 litres respectively; we have not measured any of them, and capacity is the number these listings are loosest with.

Each selling price, stated MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count on this page was read on 28 September 2026 from flipkart.com's own search results for "school bag" and "backpack for kids", server-side, logged out, in India, with listing keys deduped so no product is counted twice. 114 distinct listings, Rs. 121 to Rs. 1,291. Nothing was bought.
The 'x times' figure on each card divides the MRP the listing itself displays by the price it itself charges. We have not verified that any bag on this page was ever sold at its stated MRP, so these are arithmetic over two published numbers rather than measured savings. The 4.34x shelf median describes all 114 listings in the read.
Four brands in this read display one rating count across two or three separate listings - 36,981 on three bags, 40,953 on two, 11,495 on two, 2,732 on two. Where a card's rating count is shared, we say so on the card, because a pooled count is evidence about a product family rather than the bag photographed.
This page reads prices, stated MRPs, badges, star averages and rating counts. Nothing was bought, carried, loaded, weighed or tested. Stated litre capacities, waterproofing, strap comfort, back support and whether any bag is safe or suitable for a child to carry loaded are not assessed here, and no claim about them is made or implied.
Because the stated MRP behind them is several times the selling price. In our 28 September 2026 read of 114 listings, the median stated MRP was 4.34 times the price and 73 listings stated at least four times. The widest was Rs. 283 against a stated Rs. 2,999 - 10.60x, displayed as 91% off. A high MRP is legal and commonplace in Indian retail and we allege no wrongdoing by Flipkart or any seller; we simply have not found evidence that these bags sell at those figures, so we would not reason from the badge.
In this read the shelf ran Rs. 121 to Rs. 1,291, with a median of Rs. 370. Under about Rs. 250 you are mostly looking at plush nursery and toddler bags rather than book bags. The best-evidenced options sat between Rs. 239 and Rs. 548 - a Rs. 239 plush bag with 77,600 ratings and a Rs. 548 school bag with 73,831. The only bag here above Rs. 1,000 with a real crowd behind it was the Rs. 1,099 American Tourister, with 5,945.
That depends on what you want from the money, and this page cannot test durability. What we can report is that the four recognisable-brand listings in this read - at Rs. 329, Rs. 439, Rs. 529 and Rs. 1,099 - all state an MRP below the 4.34x shelf median, at 4.25x, 3.53x, 2.93x and 2.37x. They also carry far fewer ratings than the unknown labels: 5,945 on the American Tourister against 77,600 on a Rs. 239 bag. You are buying a more believable list price and less published feedback.
Because Flipkart pools reviews across linked listings. In this read Martucci showed 36,981 ratings on three separate bags priced Rs. 418, Rs. 441 and Rs. 500; Dejan showed 40,953 on two; SEEBA 11,495 on two; HINEX BAGS 2,732 on two. When a count is shared it cannot help you choose between the listings that share it. Separately, we found one bag listed by two different sellers at the identical Rs. 1,291 with separate counts of 17 and 40 - that is a duplicate listing, not a pool.
In this read, a Rs. 239 plush kids' bag with 77,600 ratings at 4.2 stars. Behind it came a Rs. 548 school bag with 73,831, a Rs. 475 bag with 40,953 - a count shared with a second listing - and a Rs. 418 Martucci with 36,981, shared with two others. Every one of the five largest crowds on this shelf sits under Rs. 550, and the median rating count across the 109 rated listings was 379.
