Four rules for buying a room heater on Flipkart

First: ignore the percentage entirely and read the MRP multiple, which we print on every card. On this shelf it runs from 1.09 to 4.25, and the listing with the smallest badge - an ORPAT at 9 per cent - is stating the most credible MRP on the page. Second: at the cheap end, buy the sample. Four listings under Rs. 900 carry more than six thousand ratings each, and the cheapest listing of all carries none. Third: decide between a fan heater and a quartz heater before you compare prices - a quartz heater warms what sits in front of it, a fan heater warms the air in the room, and they are not substitutes. Fourth: look for a stated 1000/2000W dual setting if you are heating a bedroom rather than a hall; several heaters here have one, and 2000W is a great deal of electricity to run all evening. We have not metered any of these appliances - that last point is about the rating on the label, not a measurement of ours.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: our three searches returned 196 listings carrying both a selling price and a stated MRP, and we have seated 23. The ones we left out fall into three groups. First, the industrial and panel heaters - an 'Airex Space Heater Electrical Panel Switch Gear' at Rs. 395 and Rs. 253 - which are switchgear components, not room heaters, and would have made the Rs. 613 floor of this page look artificially high. Second, the near-duplicate listings: the unleash Fayra appears four times at the identical Rs. 705, and we seated one. Third, the oil-filled radiators and the large HAVELLS and BAJAJ room-heating appliances between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 17,900 that the same searches returned - they are a different purchase at a different budget, and averaging them into a page about sub-Rs. 2,500 heaters would have been meaningless. One more exclusion worth naming: a 'NETVULL MULTIPURPOSE 2000W SQUARE ELECTRIC KITCHEN COOKING HEATER AND ROOM HEATER' at Rs. 1,988, which is sold as a cooking appliance as well as a heater and which we would not put on a page people may buy from for a bedroom.

We say on every card which of the two types a listing is, because a quartz heater warms what is in front of it and a fan heater warms the air, and that difference matters more than any badge here.

In our 23 September 2026 read the cheapest listing with a price and a stated MRP is a StonSell two-rod room heater at Rs. 613, which publishes no rating and no rating count at all. The cheapest heater we would actually consider is the MinMAX fan heater at Rs. 668, which carries 4.0 from 6,297 ratings, or the zigma Z-30 at Rs. 750 with 4.0 from 13,214. Under Rs. 800 the difference between a listing with thirteen thousand ratings and one with none is worth far more than the Rs. 137 between them.

Why do three heaters at Rs. 999 show different discounts?

Because the discount is calculated from the MRP the seller states, and the three sellers stated different ones. We cannot tell you that - nothing on this page was plugged in, run or metered.
