Ticket prices on Flipkart's stationery shelf span 8.3x. Divide by what is actually in the box and the spread is 29.7x - and the discount badge sorts none of it.
We read 116 colour pencil, crayon and sketch pen listings from Flipkart's own search results on 23 October 2026. Forty-four of them state how many pieces are in the box - and divided out, one pencil, crayon or marker costs between Rs. 2.62 and Rs. 77.80. That is a 29.7x spread on a shelf whose ticket prices only span 8.3x, which means the number on the tile is telling you about box size far more than about value. The cheapest piece in the read carries a 43% badge and the dearest carries 40%, so the discount column cannot be used to find either end. Below, the shelf sorted by what a single piece actually costs.
Every price below was pulled from Flipkart on October 23, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Flipkart coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

Rs. 389, stated Rs. 650, badged 40%, 4.4 stars from 107 ratings published by Flipkart
Why it earned its spot it is the most expensive single piece in the entire read, from the same brand that supplies the third-cheapest.
First, divide the price by the piece count before comparing anything. It is on almost every title, it takes five seconds, and on this shelf it changes the order completely - the Rs. 761 listing is better value per pencil than the Rs. 150 one. Second, ignore the badge as a value signal. Recognised houses here carry a median badge of 23% and everyone else 70%, at overlapping prices; the deepest badge in the read is on the eighth-cheapest piece. Third, check whether two tiles are the same box. Three listings in this pull describe a 25-shade pastel pack from one brand and sell at Rs. 95, Rs. 110 and Rs. 176. Fourth, compare within a format. A 24-pen alcohol marker set and a 24-shade pencil set divide to similar-looking figures and are not remotely the same purchase - read the title, not the arithmetic, for that.

Each selling price, stated MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count on this page came from the product data flipkart.com itself serves on its search results, read on 23 October 2026, logged out, from India, with nothing bought and customer service not contacted. The queries were "sketch pens", "colour pencils" and "crayons", one page each, returning 116 distinct listings, of which 24 are seated below. Every count, median and range on this page is computed over all 116, not over the 24 shown.
Forty-four of the 116 listings state how many pencils, crayons, pastels or markers are in the box, and dividing the selling price by that number gives Rs. 2.62 to Rs. 77.80 a piece — a 29.7x spread, against a ticket-price spread of only 8.3x. The median is Rs. 7.00. Where a title gives no count we do not guess one, and those listings are excluded from the per-piece figures while still counting in the price and badge statistics.
We split the 116 listings into brands with an Indian retail presence (DOMS, Camlin, Faber-Castell, BRuSTRO, Fevicryl) and everything else. The 41 recognised-brand listings carry a median badge of 23%; the other 75 carry a median of 70% — and the two groups sell at overlapping prices. Rs. 999 is the stated MRP on 20 of the 116 listings, printed on sets ranging from 12 pieces to 68.
109 of the 116 listings publish a star average and a review count; seven publish neither. The median pool is 108 ratings and the deepest seated here is 3,325. No uniform editorial score is applied anywhere on this page: where a tile has no rating, the card carries no pill.
Nothing here was bought, opened or used. No claim is made about pigment quality, tip life, blending, coverage, erasability or whether any of these is safe for a particular age of child. "Non-toxic", "dual tip", "alcohol based" and the piece counts themselves are the listings' own printed descriptions, reproduced and not verified — our per-piece arithmetic inherits any error in a stated count. A stated MRP is the figure a listing prints; nothing here says any such figure is false or improper, and a 24-piece marker set and a 24-shade pencil set are not the same object even where the arithmetic looks comparable.
The 116 listings in this read run Rs. 92 to Rs. 761, with a median of Rs. 212. But the ticket price is close to meaningless on this shelf, because the boxes hold anywhere from 5 pieces to 72. The useful figure is per piece: Rs. 2.62 to Rs. 77.80, median Rs. 7.00, across the 44 listings that state a count. A Rs. 92 crayon tin and a Rs. 761 pencil set can be Rs. 3.29 and Rs. 10.57 a piece respectively — the cheaper box is not always the cheaper pencil, and here it mostly is not. These were the prices Flipkart published on 23 October 2026; check the live listing before buying.
A Camlin 50-shade oil pastel box at Rs. 131, which is Rs. 2.62 a stick — the floor of this read. The ceiling is a DOMS five-shade hexagonal pastel pack at Rs. 389, or Rs. 77.80 a stick, 29.7 times more, from the same house. Among pencils specifically, a 68-pencil set at Rs. 218 works out at Rs. 3.21 each. Note that the cheapest piece on the shelf is badged 43% and the dearest is badged 40% — the discount column does not sort this shelf at all.
No. On this shelf they point the other way. The 41 listings from houses with a retail presence — DOMS, Camlin, Faber-Castell and the like — carry a median badge of 23%, while the other 75 carry a median of 70%, and the two groups sell at overlapping prices. Of the ten deepest badges in this read, not one appears in the ten cheapest per piece. The cleanest single example: two 50-shade pastel boxes from the same brand sell at Rs. 274 and Rs. 276 — two rupees apart — but are badged 31% and 54%, because the printed MRPs are Rs. 399 and Rs. 599.
Because Rs. 999 is the single most common stated MRP in this read: 20 of the 116 listings print it. They are not comparable products — the same Rs. 999 strike-through sits on a 12-piece crayon pack and on a 68-pencil set, which differ nearly six-fold in what is in the box. Their selling prices run from Rs. 163 to Rs. 277, so the badge reads anywhere from 72% to 84% off the same number. A stated MRP is simply the figure a listing prints; nothing here says any of them is false, but a strike-through shared by twenty different boxes cannot help you choose between them. Divide by the piece count instead.
On per-pen cost, usually yes — but the count is not the only thing that moves. In this read the 48-marker sets work out at Rs. 4.62 to Rs. 6.96 a pen, while the 24-piece sets run Rs. 4.71 to Rs. 8.83. Four listings state 48 dual-tip markers and sell at Rs. 222, Rs. 270, Rs. 288 and Rs. 334 — a Rs. 112 spread on an identical stated count, with badges of 66%, 66%, 52% and 67% that do not order them. The deeper review pool is on the Rs. 270 one, not the Rs. 222 one. Nothing here was drawn with; ink volume, tip quality and pigment are not things a price-per-piece figure can see.
