Hold the cooling capacity still and the efficiency label is the most expensive thing on Croma's air-conditioner shelf. A 1.5-ton 3-star sells at a median Rs. 37,740. The same 1.5 tons with a 5-star label: Rs. 49,990.

We read 46 in-stock listings on 4 September 2026. Below: what each tonnage actually costs, why a Carrier badged 50% off and a Croma badged 24% off land at the same money, and why the star ratings on this aisle are not worth sorting by.

📅 Update log:
4 Sep 2026 — first published. All 46 listings were read from croma.com's own search API on 4 September 2026 for the queries air conditioner and split ac, two pages each, as served to a logged-out visitor with nothing purchased and de-duplicated by product code. Tonnage and star groupings were derived from the model names Croma publishes. This is an early-September reading at the back end of the cooling season; Croma re-ranks these results continuously and moves prices without notice, so we re-read the shelf and log what has changed here.

The same 1.5 tons of cooling costs Rs. 12,250 more with a 5-star label

We read 46 in-stock air conditioners from Croma's own search API on 4 September 2026 — 42 split units and four window units. Twenty-nine of the 46 are the standard 1.5-ton size, which lets us hold cooling capacity constant and price the efficiency step on its own.

The 18 listings that are 1.5 Ton, 3 Star sell at a median of Rs. 37,740. The nine that are 1.5 Ton, 5 Star sell at a median of Rs. 49,990. That is Rs. 12,250 for one efficiency grade at the same tonnage, and the badge does not flag it — the 3-star group is badged a median 28% off and the 5-star group a median 26%.

Whether that premium is worth paying depends entirely on how many hours a year you actually run the machine and what you pay per unit of electricity, which is not something a price shelf can tell you and not something we are claiming to know. What the shelf can tell you is the size of the cheque: Rs. 12,250 up front, on the same cooling capacity, before installation.

What each tonnage actually costs on this shelf

Across all 46 listings prices run Rs. 26,490 to Rs. 55,090 at a median of Rs. 35,642 and a median 28% off. The shelf is narrower than most electronics aisles: the dearest AC here is barely twice the price of the cheapest.

One ton is 11 listings at a median Rs. 32,990, running Rs. 28,790 to Rs. 37,490. One-and-a-half tons is the bulk of the shelf at 29 listings and a median Rs. 39,490, but it is also the widest band by far — Rs. 29,990 to Rs. 55,090 — because it holds everything from a 2-star fixed-speed window unit to a Rs. 55,090 O General inverter split. Two tons is only three listings, all above Rs. 46,000.

Four window ACs survive on this shelf, all of them 1.5 ton, running Rs. 29,990 to Rs. 35,290. Three of the four are Croma's own label. If you want a window unit, that is effectively the choice on offer here.

A note on timing. This is an early-September reading, which in most of India is the back end of the cooling season rather than the front of it. We are not forecasting where these prices go next and we have no visibility into Croma's stock or promotion plans; the figures here describe one morning only.

The discount percentage is a brand policy, not a model-by-model markdown

Group the 46 listings by brand and the badges cluster hard. Carrier's three listings are badged 43–50% off. LG's four are 41–47%. Samsung's single listing is 43%, Lloyd's two are 39–41%, Voltas 29–42%, Blue Star 32–41%.

Then the other cluster. Croma's own label runs 12–28%, Godrej 21–31%, Daikin 21–28%, Panasonic 26–27%, and a single O General carries a 2% badge on a Rs. 55,090 machine. The two groups sell into the same price band — Carrier's median is Rs. 34,190 and Croma's Rs. 32,990 — but their stated reference prices differ enormously. Carrier's deepest listing is Rs. 34,190 off a stated Rs. 68,290; the Croma unit closest to it in price is Rs. 30,994 off a stated Rs. 40,500.

We cannot verify whether any stated maximum retail price on this shelf was ever a live selling price, we make no claim either way, and no wrongdoing by Croma or by any brand named is alleged or implied. The practical point is narrow and useful: on this aisle a 50%-off badge and a 24%-off badge can land on machines that cost about the same.

Croma's own label is the biggest brand on Croma's AC shelf

Eleven of the 46 listings are Croma-branded — more than any other name on the aisle, and more than LG, Carrier, Voltas, Lloyd and Samsung put together. They are also the cheapest cluster by median at Rs. 32,990 against Rs. 37,490 for everything else, and they carry the shallowest badges: a median 24% off a median stated Rs. 44,000, against 34% off a median stated Rs. 57,990 for the rest of the shelf.

Read that carefully, because it is the opposite of how the badge usually reads. The house label is not discounting deeply; it is starting from a lower stated price and ending up cheaper anyway. Three of the four window ACs on the shelf are Croma units, and the cheapest 1-ton split at Rs. 28,790 is a Croma too.

What the shelf cannot tell you is anything about how these machines perform, how the installation or the service network compares, or what the warranty covers. We have not tested any air conditioner on this page.

The star ratings on this shelf are too thin to lean on

Thirty-two of the 46 listings carry a customer rating. The median number of ratings behind those scores is three. Twenty-four of the 32 have fewer than ten ratings, and the best-supported listing on the entire shelf has 39.

Seventeen listings show a perfect 5.0, and 15 of those seventeen are built on fewer than five votes. A 5.0 from two people and a 4.8 from 39 people are not the same object, and the shelf displays them the same way.

This is not a criticism of Croma's review system and we are not suggesting anything is wrong with it — big-ticket appliances simply do not accumulate reviews the way phone cases do. It does mean that on this particular aisle, sorting or filtering by rating is close to sorting by noise, and you are better off checking the specific model number somewhere with a deeper review pool.

How this page was read, and what it does not tell you

All 46 listings were read from croma.com's own search API (api.croma.com/searchservices/v1/search) on 4 September 2026, as served to a logged-out visitor in India with nothing purchased and no account used, for the queries “air conditioner” and “split ac”, two pages each, de-duplicated by product code. Every selling price, maximum retail price, discount percentage, star rating and rating count is Croma's own published figure reproduced without adjustment; the medians, counts, tonnage and star groupings and brand groupings are ours, derived from the model names as Croma publishes them.

What that means for what you can conclude. Four pages of two search queries is not a catalogue: this page describes the front of Croma's air-conditioner aisle as it was ranked on one morning rather than everything Croma sells, and nothing here is a claim about the cheapest or most expensive AC available from the retailer. This is an early-September reading, at the back end of the Indian cooling season, and we make no forecast about where these prices go next. Prices change without notice and Croma re-ranks these results continuously; coupon codes, bank card offers, exchange values, extended-warranty add-ons, delivery and installation charges are not visible in listing data and can move your final price substantially in either direction — an air conditioner in particular is rarely the price on the listing once installation is booked. The prices and terms shown at your checkout prevail over anything here. We cannot verify whether any stated maximum retail price was ever a live selling price and make no claim either way; the brand-level badge ranges are an observation about published fields and no wrongdoing by Croma or by Carrier, LG, Daikin, Godrej, Blue Star, Voltas, Lloyd, Panasonic, Samsung, O General or any other brand named is alleged or implied. Nothing here is a judgement of cooling performance, noise, build quality, running cost, installation quality, service network or warranty terms: no air conditioner was installed, run or tested by us, no energy-cost calculation is offered, and a discount percentage is not a recommendation to buy.

What to do with this before you buy

Price the star rating, then decide. On the same 1.5-ton capacity, the 5-star median is Rs. 49,990 against Rs. 37,740 for 3-star. Whether Rs. 12,250 comes back to you depends on your running hours and your tariff — but you should at least know you are being asked for it, because the badge does not say so.

Ignore the percentage, compare the rupees. A Carrier at 50% off and a Croma at 24% off both land near Rs. 32,000–34,000 on this shelf. The badge is tracking each brand's stated reference price, not the money you hand over.

Do not sort by rating here. The median listing has three ratings and 17 of the 46 show a perfect 5.0, most of them from fewer than five people. Look the exact model number up somewhere with a deeper review pool, and get the installation cost quoted before you commit.

The short version

Croma's air-conditioner shelf, read on 4 September 2026, returned 46 in-stock listings from Rs. 26,490 to Rs. 55,090, median Rs. 35,642 at a median 28% off — 42 split units and four window units, with 29 of the 46 at the standard 1.5-ton size.

Three things are worth carrying away. The 5-star premium is Rs. 12,250 at the same 1.5-ton capacity (median Rs. 49,990 against Rs. 37,740), and the badge actually gets shallower as you pay it. The discount is a brand policy — Carrier and LG badge 41–50% while Croma's own label badges 12–28%, and both land in the same price band. And the ratings are unusable: median three ratings per listing, 17 perfect 5.0 scores, 15 of them from fewer than five voters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest AC on Croma right now?
Across the 46 in-stock listings Croma's own search returned on 4 September 2026, the cheapest was a DAIKIN 0.8 Ton 2 Star split AC at Rs. 26,490 against a stated Rs. 36,000 (26% off) — though 0.8 ton is a small-room size. The cheapest 1-ton unit was a Croma 7-in-1 Convertible 3 Star inverter split at Rs. 28,790, and the cheapest 1.5-ton was a Croma 2 Star fixed-speed window AC at Rs. 29,990. This is the cheapest listing we found on four pages of two search queries rather than a claim about the cheapest AC Croma sells, and installation, delivery, coupons and bank offers applied at checkout can move the final figure in either direction.
Is a 5-star AC worth it over a 3-star on Croma?
The shelf can tell you the price of the upgrade but not whether it pays back. Holding capacity constant at 1.5 tons, the 18 3-star listings sell at a median Rs. 37,740 and the nine 5-star listings at a median Rs. 49,990 — a Rs. 12,250 premium for one efficiency grade. Whether that returns depends entirely on how many hours a year you run the machine and your electricity tariff, which we have not modelled and are not claiming to know. Worth noting: the 5-star group carries a slightly shallower median badge (26% against 28%), so the discount percentage gives you no warning that you are paying the premium.
Why are Carrier and LG ACs discounted 45% on Croma when Croma's own brand is only 24%?
Because the percentage is measured from each brand's stated maximum retail price, and those reference prices differ far more than the selling prices do. On the shelf we read, Carrier's three listings were badged 43–50% off a median stated Rs. 68,290 and landed at a median Rs. 34,190; Croma's eleven own-label listings were badged 12–28% off a median stated Rs. 44,000 and landed at a median Rs. 32,990 — cheaper, on half the badge. We cannot verify whether any stated MRP was ever a live selling price, we make no claim either way, and no wrongdoing by Croma or by any brand named is alleged or implied. Compare the rupee prices of the specific models you are choosing between.
How much does a 1.5 ton AC cost at Croma?
On the shelf we read on 4 September 2026, the 29 1.5-ton listings ran Rs. 29,990 to Rs. 55,090 at a median of Rs. 39,490 and a median 27% off. Split by efficiency, the 18 3-star units had a median of Rs. 37,740 and the nine 5-star units a median of Rs. 49,990. The cheapest 1.5-ton unit on the shelf was a Croma 2-star fixed-speed window AC at Rs. 29,990 and the dearest an O General inverter split at Rs. 55,090, which carried the shallowest badge on the whole aisle at 2%. Installation is charged separately and is not part of any figure on this page.
Can I trust the star ratings on Croma's AC listings?
They are too thinly supported to sort by. Thirty-two of the 46 listings carried a customer rating, but the median number of ratings behind a score was three, 24 of the 32 had fewer than ten, and the best-supported listing on the shelf had 39 ratings. Seventeen listings showed a perfect 5.0, and 15 of those came from fewer than five voters. That is not a criticism of Croma's review system — big appliances simply do not gather reviews quickly — but it does mean a 5.0 here carries almost no information. Look the specific model number up somewhere with a deeper review pool before you decide.
