Amazon SSD and Memory Card Prices September 2026: Rs. 4 to Rs. 187 a GB

Three storage devices from this Amazon September 2026 price read — a SanDisk Extreme portable SSD, a UnionSine 1TB external hard drive and a SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card — shown as the packshots appear on their amazon.in listings
Zoutons Picks — Amazon, September 2026

Sixty-seven storage listings read on one morning and divided by the number printed on the box. The cheapest gigabyte costs Rs. 4.05, the dearest Rs. 187.38, and the two listings that make the point sell for exactly the same Rs. 1,499.

Prices & codes last verified September 14, 2026

The short of it Amazon storage read 14 September 2026, 67 listings, 63 stating a capacity, median Rs. 19.43 per GB, median badge 37%. Cheapest per GB: Rs. 4.05 on a 1TB hard drive. Dearest: Rs. 187.38 on an 8GB SD card — at the same Rs. 1,499 as a 128GB pen drive. Most rated: 85,145 on a Rs. 1,243 pen drive. Shared review pool: four cards, 644 ratings each. Best-evidenced drive: 81,966 ratings.

Storage is the one shelf where the headline specification is a plain number, so we read sixty-seven listings on amazon.in on 14 September 2026 and divided every price by the capacity printed on it. The rate runs from Rs. 4.05 to Rs. 187.38 per gigabyte, and the thing that moves it is format, not brand — hard drives sit at a median of Rs. 5.21 a gigabyte, memory cards at Rs. 29.56. The neatest proof of that is a coincidence of price: a 128GB pen drive and an 8GB memory card both sell here for Rs. 1,499, against the same Rs. 2,499 list price.

Every price below was pulled from Amazon on September 14, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Amazon coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

Four rules for buying storage on Amazon

First: divide the price by the capacity before anything else. On this read that single sum separates a Rs. 4.05 gigabyte from a Rs. 187.38 one, and it is the only calculation on the page that needs no specialist knowledge. Second: pick the format before the brand. A memory card costs about 5.7 times what a hard drive costs per gigabyte here, and no amount of brand shopping closes that gap. Third: never buy the small rung of a family. The halving penalty is universal on this shelf — a 32GB HIKVISION card costs 64 percent more per gigabyte than the same range's 64GB, and a 500GB hard drive 49 percent more than the 1TB beside it. Fourth: check the rating count against neighbouring capacities. Four cards in one range here display the identical 644-rating sample, so the stars on each describe the group. Our keyboard, mouse and router read prices the rest of this aisle the same way.

What we skipped — and why

What we skipped, and why: the four listings that state no capacity in the title at all — an SD-card adapter, two unbranded portable drives and a Crucial BX500 whose capacity sits only in a dropdown — since the whole page is built on dividing by a stated number; the second MAYUMI 1TB drive, which sells at the same Rs. 4,950 and shares the same 258-rating sample as the one we seated but prints a Rs. 12,500 MRP instead of Rs. 9,500, described on that card rather than given its own; the second WD Green 1TB and the Kingston Exodia S, near-duplicates of listings already seated; and the HIKVISION Extreme 16GB, the fourth member of the 644-rating family, which is named in the criteria instead.

What we look for

We divided every price by the capacity printed in the title

Storage is the rare shelf where the headline specification is a plain number, so this whole page is priced per gigabyte. Sixty-three of the sixty-seven listings we read state a capacity, and across them the rate runs from Rs. 4.05 to Rs. 187.38 per GB — a 46x spread, against a median of Rs. 19.43. The arithmetic is ours, on Amazon's displayed price and the seller's own stated capacity. Formatted capacity is always somewhat less than the number on the box, for every product here equally, so the comparison between them holds even though the absolute figure is generous.

We grouped by format before we grouped by brand

Because format is what actually sets the price. Median per gigabyte: spinning external hard drives Rs. 5.21 across 9 listings, pen drives Rs. 14.75 across 11, SSDs Rs. 17.08 across 18 and memory cards Rs. 29.56 across 22. A memory card costs roughly 5.7 times what a hard drive costs for the same gigabyte on this same shelf. Brand barely moves it — SanDisk holds both the cheapest-per-GB portable SSD chapter entry and the dearest listing on the entire page.

We looked for two listings at the same price

And found the clearest illustration of the above. A Kingston DataTraveler Exodia S 128GB pen drive and a SanDisk 8GB Class 4 SDHC card both sell at Rs. 1,499, both against a Rs. 2,499 MRP. Same money, same printed list price, sixteen times the capacity on one of them. The card is the oldest and slowest format in this read — Class 4 — and it is the dearest thing here per gigabyte at Rs. 187.38, which is 9.6 times the rate of a 1TB SanDisk Extreme portable SSD sold on the same page.

We checked rating counts against neighbouring listings

Four HIKVISION Extreme microSDXC listings — 8GB at Rs. 387, 16GB at Rs. 667, 32GB at Rs. 1,200 and 64GB at Rs. 1,466 — all display 4.1 stars from exactly 644 ratings. Identical to the digit across four capacities means one review pool behind four differently-priced products, so none of those averages describes the card in its own photograph. Three of the four are seated below and each says so on its card; the 16GB is named here instead.

We did not test a single drive

This page prices listings. It does not measure read or write speed, verify a V30 or UHS-II class claim, check endurance, count write cycles or say anything about how long any of these will hold data. Those are the claims that matter most on storage and exactly the ones a search-results page cannot settle. Where a listing's stars come from a shared pool we say so on the card; where the sample is thin we print the number in words rather than as a star pill.

FAQs

What should a 1TB external hard drive cost on Amazon?

On this read, between Rs. 4,152 and Rs. 7,599 — that is Rs. 4.05 to Rs. 7.42 per gigabyte, and the nine hard drives here have a median rate of Rs. 5.21. The cheapest 1TB carried no brand name and no published rating at all; the dearest carried 4,642 ratings at 4.2 stars. Inside this format the extra money buys evidence rather than capacity, which is the opposite of how the SSD chapter works. A 500GB drive at Rs. 3,009 is the cheapest ticket price here but costs 49 percent more per gigabyte than the 1TB above it.

Why do four HIKVISION memory cards show the same number of ratings?

Because the reviews are pooled across listings Amazon treats as variations of one another, and no listing page says so. In this read the HIKVISION Extreme 8GB at Rs. 387, 16GB at Rs. 667, 32GB at Rs. 1,200 and 64GB at Rs. 1,466 all displayed 4.1 stars from exactly 644 ratings. Four capacities, four prices, one sample. When neighbouring listings show an identical count to the digit, the stars describe the family and not the specific card, so check the sibling capacities before treating a rating as evidence for the one in front of you.

Is an SSD worth the extra money over a hard drive?

That is a speed question this page cannot answer, but it can price it exactly. On this read the cheapest solid-state gigabyte costs Rs. 12.50 against a hard-drive median of Rs. 5.21 — roughly 2.4 times as much — and the cheapest portable SSD costs about 2.4 times what a portable hard drive costs for the same carried terabyte. Above 1TB the multiple narrows: the Rs. 30,500 2TB portable SSD here works out cheaper per gigabyte than four of the 1TB portable SSDs on the same shelf.

Which Amazon storage listing has the most reviews?

An HP v236w 128GB pen drive at Rs. 1,243 with 85,145 ratings at 4.2 stars — the largest sample in this read, and also the listing with the most inflated list price on the page at Rs. 5,999, a 4.8x multiple. After it come a SanDisk Extreme 1TB portable SSD with 81,966 ratings, a SanDisk Ultra 128GB pen drive with 75,260 and a Kingston 128GB pen drive with 65,806. The best-evidenced memory card is a SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC with 62,147.

Why does a small memory card cost so much per gigabyte?

Because the price of a storage product is not mostly the storage. Packaging, controller, testing, distribution and shelf presence cost roughly the same whether a card holds 8GB or 128GB, so the fixed part dominates at the bottom of the range. On this read that shows up as an 8GB SD card at Rs. 1,499, or Rs. 187.38 per gigabyte — the same Rs. 1,499 that buys a 128GB pen drive on the same page. If your device can take a larger card, the larger card is almost always cheaper per gigabyte; it was without exception across all five formats here.

Every selling price, MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count here was read on 14 September 2026 from amazon.in search results as served to a logged-out visitor in India. The per-gigabyte rates, the format medians and the MRP multiples are ours, computed from the displayed price and the capacity the seller states in the title. Stated capacity is a seller claim and is always more than the space a formatted device actually offers. MRPs are quoted because Amazon displays them and are not treated here as evidence of a saving. Nothing on this page tests read or write speed, endurance or real capacity. Prices and stock change without notice.
