Twenty-five mouthwash listings read on 7 October, reduced to one number. The price of 100 ml varies by a factor of eighteen.
A mouthwash shelf is a wall of 150 ml, 215 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml and one-litre bottles sold singly and in threes, so we reduced it to one number: what 100 ml costs. Across 25 listings read on 7 October 2026 that number runs from Rs. 44.40 to Rs. 807.60, an 18.2-fold spread — and from Rs. 47.00 to Rs. 807.60 inside the Listerine name alone. Amazon prints the rate itself, and our own division matched it on 30 of the 38 listings whose volume a title would give us. The eight that disagreed were the useful ones: two titles understate the volume in their own bottles, and on four listings that field is not a rate at all.
Every price below was pulled from Amazon on October 7, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Amazon coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.
The cheap end of the shelf, from Rs. 44.40 per 100 ml — including the listing whose own search title undercounts its volume by two thirds, and the cheapest price tag in the read, which is not the cheapest mouthwash in it.
Colgate MaxFresh Plax antibacterial mouthwash, three 250 ml bottles, Rs. 333.
Why it earned its spot The floor of the only measurement this page makes.
Listerine Cool Mint, two 500 ml bottles, Rs. 470.
Why it earned its spot One end of the page's central comparison: a litre of Listerine at its cheapest.
Mintfresh antibacterial mouthwash, two 250 ml bottles, Rs. 279.
Why it earned its spot The cheapest non-Colgate, non-Listerine rate in the read.
Listerine Cool Mint, three 250 ml bottles, Rs. 429.
Why it earned its spot The most-rated listing in the read, at a rate near the bottom of the range.
Colgate MaxFresh Plax, 0% alcohol, four 250 ml bottles, Rs. 580.
Why it earned its spot The clearest bigger-pack-worse-rate pair on the shelf, within one product line.
Listerine Original, three 250 ml bottles, Rs. 440.
Why it earned its spot The cheapest way to buy Listerine Original in this read, and not the biggest pack.
Listerine Total Care Cavity Fighter, three 250 ml bottles, Rs. 480.
Why it earned its spot The listing that proves you cannot trust a search title's volume.
Colgate Plax antibacterial mouthwash, fresh mint, one 250 ml bottle, Rs. 157.
Why it earned its spot What a single small bottle of a national brand costs per 100 ml.
Himalaya Active Fresh Miswak mouthwash, no alcohol, one 215 ml bottle, Rs. 132.
Why it earned its spot The lowest price on the shelf, which is not the lowest rate on it.
Seven listings covering the same products at different pack sizes: one twin-pack that costs exactly double for exactly the same rate, one larger pack that is 31% dearer per 100 ml, and a second title whose stated volume is 167 ml short.
Listerine Original, one 500 ml bottle, Rs. 399.
Why it earned its spot Half of the pair that shows a twin-pack saving nothing at all.
Listerine Original, two 500 ml bottles, Rs. 798.
Why it earned its spot The pair that settles what a multipack is and is not worth on this shelf.
Listerine Total Care Cavity Fighter, one 500 ml bottle, Rs. 361.
Why it earned its spot The honest comparison for the card whose title undercounted its own volume.
Listerine Total Care Sensitive Soothing Taste, one 250 ml bottle, Rs. 215.
Why it earned its spot The single-bottle penalty, measured on a third Listerine variant.
Salt. Oral Care Balance alkaline probiotic mouthwash, Rs. 345.
Why it earned its spot The second listing whose own search title understates what is in the bottle.
Himalaya Active Fresh Saunf mouthwash, no alcohol, one 215 ml bottle, Rs. 148.
Why it earned its spot The same brand, same size, different flavour, at a measurably different rate.
Perfora activated charcoal mouthwash, alcohol free, one 200 ml bottle, Rs. 125.
Why it earned its spot Where the direct-to-consumer brands land once the packaging is divided out.
Five listings that are not substitutes for the nine above — a fluoride rinse and four imported litres, ending at 18.2 times the cheapest rate on the shelf and at the largest price tag in the read, Rs. 14,234.
Colgate Phos-Flur fluoride mouth rinse, mint, one 500 ml bottle, Rs. 698.
Why it earned its spot The first card above Rs. 110 per 100 ml, and the start of a different kind of product.
Lavoris mouthwash, original cinnamon, one 1 litre bottle, Rs. 2,060.
Why it earned its spot Four and a half times the cheapest rate, for a bottle not sold by the Indian brands.
Crest Pro-Health mouthwash, clean mint, one 1 litre bottle, Rs. 3,034.
Why it earned its spot The second imported litre, at half again the rate of the first.
Listerine Total Care Zero anticavity mouthwash, fresh mint, two 1 litre bottles, Rs. 14,234.
Why it earned its spot The biggest number on the shelf, and not quite the worst rate on it.
Listerine Antiseptic mouthwash, original, one 1 litre bottle, Rs. 8,076.
Why it earned its spot The far end of the measurement, 18.2 times the near end.
The exceptions that break any automated reading of this shelf: four medicated antiseptic rinses carrying a genuine M.R.P. in the field that holds a per-100-ml rate everywhere else, with nothing on the tile to tell them apart. Priced only, compared on nothing.
Clohex ADS, a chlorhexidine antiseptic mouthwash, one 200 ml bottle, Rs. 236.
Why it earned its spot The first of four listings where the same numeric field means something else entirely.
Hexidine, a chlorhexidine antiseptic and anti-plaque mouthwash, one 160 ml bottle, Rs. 130.
Why it earned its spot The second of the four, and the cheapest price tag in this chapter.
Rexidin SRS, a chlorhexidine mouthwash IP, one 150 ml bottle, Rs. 156.
Why it earned its spot The third of four, confirming the pattern is not a one-off.
Septodont Calypso, a professional dental mouthwash concentrate, one 200 ml bottle, Rs. 421.
Why it earned its spot The last of the four, and the narrowest gap between price and stated MRP in the read.
Four checks, and one caution. First: find the small grey per-100-ml rate Amazon prints under the price and read that instead of the price. On this shelf it ranges from Rs. 44.40 to Rs. 807.60, and the cheapest price tag in the read — Rs. 132 — is only the ninth-cheapest rate in it. Second: do not assume a bigger pack is better value. Colgate MaxFresh Plax at 4 x 250 ml is 31% dearer per 100 ml than the same line at 3 x 250 ml, and a Listerine Original twin-pack costs exactly double the single bottle for exactly the same rate. Sometimes the multipack does save: the same comparison on Listerine Cavity Fighter is worth 11%, and on Total Care Sensitive 40%. There is no rule, only the rate. Third: do not trust the volume in a search title. Two of the 38 titles we could read understated their own bottles — one says 250ml for 750 ml of product, because 'Combo Pack of 3' falls off the end of a ninety-character title. Open the product page and read the Unit Count field before you rely on a number. Fourth: check whether that second figure is a rate or an M.R.P. On four listings here it is an M.R.P. and nothing on the tile says so. And the caution: mouthwash is not all one product. A fluoride rinse, a chlorhexidine antiseptic and a cosmetic breath freshener are different things with different purposes, and the four medicated rinses on this page are priced here and compared on nothing else. Nothing on this page was used or tested and nothing here is dental, medical or pharmaceutical advice — ask a dentist or pharmacist, not a price page.

Each selling price, star average, rating count and stated volume on this page was read on 7 October 2026 from amazon.in, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased. 80 tiles came back across two searches and 64 were unique by ASIN. Six product pages were opened individually to settle figures the search tiles could not.
Amazon prints a per-100-ml figure on most of these tiles. We divided price by volume ourselves and compared. On 30 of the 38 listings whose volume was readable from a title, our figure and Amazon's matched to the rupee. Every per-100-ml number on this page is therefore confirmed twice, by our arithmetic and by Amazon's own label, except where stated otherwise on the card.
Eight listings disagreed and six were resolved by opening the product page. Two were title errors: Listerine Cavity Fighter's title says '250ml' and its Unit Count field says 750.0 Millilitres; Salt. Oral Care Balance's says '330ml' and its Unit Count says 497.0. Four were not rates at all. Both title cases are reported on their own cards rather than quietly corrected.
A search title is capped at about ninety characters and 'Combo Pack of 3' is exactly the kind of phrase that falls off the end. Every multipack seated here was confirmed from the listing photograph, the Unit Count field or Amazon's own printed rate — usually all three. One listing on this page would have been reported at three times its true rate if we had trusted its title.
The pools behind these 25 listings run from none at all to 32,837 and the averages from 3.9 to 4.8. Four listings publish no rating and are seated anyway; one card's 4.7-star average rests on five ratings and says so. No star appears without its sample size, and a rating count measures attention rather than quality.
Nothing on this page was bought, opened, used, rinsed with or tested. No product is assessed or compared for efficacy, safety, taste, alcohol or fluoride content, or suitability for anyone. 'Removes 99.9% germs', 'antibacterial', 'anti-plaque', 'clinically proven' and every other such statement is the packaging's or the listing's own printed text. Four seated listings are medicated rinses; they are priced and nothing more. Nothing here is dental, medical or pharmaceutical advice.
It depends whether you mean the cheapest to buy or the cheapest per millilitre, and on this shelf they are different listings. The smallest price tag in this read was Rs. 132 for a 215 ml Himalaya bottle, which works out at Rs. 61.40 per 100 ml. The cheapest rate was Rs. 44.40 per 100 ml, for a Colgate MaxFresh Plax three-pack at Rs. 333. Eight listings delivered mouthwash at a better rate than the cheapest price tag did, and every one of them cost more to buy. Prices change continuously, so check the live page.
Sometimes, and on this shelf not reliably. Colgate MaxFresh Plax at 4 x 250 ml came to Rs. 58.00 per 100 ml against Rs. 44.40 for the same line at 3 x 250 ml — the bigger pack was 31% dearer per 100 ml. A Listerine Original twin-pack at Rs. 798 worked out at exactly the same Rs. 79.80 per 100 ml as the single 500 ml bottle at Rs. 399, so it saved nothing at all. Elsewhere the multipack did save: 11% on Listerine Cavity Fighter and 40% on Total Care Sensitive. The only way to tell is to divide, or to read the per-100-ml rate Amazon prints.
Because a search-results title is truncated at roughly ninety characters, and the pack count often sits at the end. One listing in this read reads 'Listerine Cavity Fighter … 250ml C…' in search results; its product page's Unit Count field reads 750.0 Millilitres and its photograph shows three bottles, because the words 'Combo Pack of 3' were cut off. Had we divided by 250 we would have published Rs. 192 per 100 ml instead of Rs. 64. A second listing's title said 330ml against a Unit Count of 497. Open the product page and read Unit Count before trusting any size in a title.
On most listings it is Amazon's own unit rate, and it is the most useful number on the tile. We checked it by dividing price by volume ourselves on the 38 listings whose volume was readable, and our figure matched Amazon's on 30 of them to the rupee. But it is not always a rate: on four medicated rinses in this read — Clohex ADS, Hexidine, Rexidin SRS and Septodont Calypso — the same field carried a maximum retail price instead (Rs. 270, Rs. 149, Rs. 179 and Rs. 430, each confirmed on the product page). Nothing on the tile distinguishes the two, so check the product page before relying on it.
This page cannot tell you and does not try. Nothing here was bought, opened, used or tested, and no product on this page is assessed or compared for efficacy, safety, taste, alcohol content, fluoride content or suitability for anyone. Every claim quoted — 'removes 99.9% germs', 'antibacterial', 'anti-plaque', 'clinically proven', 'alcohol free' — is the packaging's or the listing's own printed text, reproduced as printed and not verified. Four of the listings seated here are medicated chlorhexidine or professional dental preparations, which are not cosmetic products and are not things to choose on price. Ask a dentist or pharmacist. Nothing on this page is dental, medical or pharmaceutical advice.
