Mamaearth publishes two return windows, and the one people miss is the short one. Seven days to report a wrong or expired product; two days to report a damaged or missing one. The two-day clock covers leaks, crushed cartons and items absent from a combo - the problems a courier creates.
The cancellation rule is just as specific: "Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'", after which there is no change-of-mind route left, because a change of mind is not grounds for a return either. Below: the full five-step return process with the brand's own timings, where the money lands, and why cancelling beats returning.
📅 Update log:
1 October 2026 — first published. Written from Mamaearth's own refund policy page at mamaearth.in as it stood on 1 October 2026; every quotation is the brand's own wording, reproduced as printed. No order was placed, cancelled or returned, and no timeline stated here has been tested.
Seven days for the wrong product. Two days for a damaged one.
Mamaearth's refund page runs two clocks, and almost everyone remembers only the longer one. "Raise a return/ replacement request within 7 days from the date of delivery, if you've received wrong or expired product(s)," it says - and then, three lines later, "In case of damaged/ missing product(s), raise a return/ replacement request within 2 days from the date of delivery."
The short window covers exactly the problems a courier creates. A leaking bottle, a crushed carton, a missing item from a combo - two days from delivery, not seven. The seven-day window applies to a wrong or expired product, which are faults you might reasonably notice later. Both figures are the brand's own, read on 1 October 2026.
Neither window is a change-of-mind return. The page lists the accepted grounds explicitly - wrong product delivered, expired product delivered, damaged product delivered (physical damage or tampered product or packaging), and an incomplete order with products missing - and lists the refusals just as plainly: opened, used or altered products; missing original packaging such as mono cartons and labels; and any request made after those windows close.
| Mamaearth's published windows, read 1 Oct 2026 | Time allowed |
|---|
| Wrong product delivered | 7 days from delivery |
| Expired product delivered | 7 days from delivery |
| Damaged product delivered | 2 days from delivery |
| Missing product from the order | 2 days from delivery |
| Changed your mind | Not accepted |
| Opened, used or altered product | Not accepted |
| Original packaging missing | Not accepted |
The one-line version: check a Mamaearth parcel for leaks, crushed cartons and missing items the day it lands. That claim expires in two days, not seven - and the mono carton you throw away is part of what the policy requires back.
You can only cancel until the order says 'Ready to Ship'
"Note - Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'." After that point the published policy offers no cancellation route at all, and since a change of mind is not grounds for a return either, an order that has moved past that status is an order you are keeping unless something is wrong with it.
The mechanism is straightforward while the window is open: "You can cancel order from CANCEL button from order details page under My account section. You just need to give reason for cancellation, and leave rest on us." Money for a cancelled order is processed "within 7 business days", which is faster than the return route below.
The page also reserves a right in the other direction: "Mamaearth reserves the right to cancel any order without pre-confirming the customer at any time and may verify any order before shipping the same to the customer that may include having a verbal or written confirmation from the customer." Order verification clauses of this kind are standard across Indian e-commerce; it is quoted here so that a cancelled order and a verification call are not a surprise.
A return takes two weeks after pickup, by the brand's own estimate
The return process is published as five steps, and the timings add up to longer than most people expect. Mamaearth asks for two working days to review a request; says its courier partners collect "within 5-7 business days after your return request has been received"; and then states that after pickup "this entire process takes 2 weeks" - warehouse quality check included - before the money moves.
Cancellation is the fast route and a return is the slow one. A cancelled order is refunded within 7 business days; a returned one is reviewed, collected, inspected and only then refunded. Replacement rather than refund is offered where stock allows - the page says plainly that "replacement will depend upon the stock availability".
Where the money lands depends on how you paid. For prepaid orders the page says money returns "to the bank account/ credit/debit card or where the payment was made from within 7 business working days"; for cash-on-delivery orders "customers will be required to provide bank details where they would like to receive the refund". If reverse pickup is not available at your address you self-ship, and Mamaearth reimburses the courier charge "either in your PayTM Wallet or Mamapay Wallet" - wallet credit rather than cash. Partial returns are allowed: any eligible product can go back within the stated window.
| The return process as published, 1 Oct 2026 | Stated time |
|---|
| Mamaearth reviews your request | 2 working days |
| Courier collects the product | 5-7 business days after the request |
| Verification, then refund or replacement | About 2 weeks after pickup |
| Refund on a cancelled order | Within 7 business days |
| Prepaid refund route | Back to the original payment method |
| COD refund route | Bank details required from you |
| Self-ship courier cost | Reimbursed as PayTM or Mamapay wallet credit |
| Replacement | Subject to stock availability |
What this page is, and what it is not
This is a plain-English reading of mamaearth.in/policies/refund-policy as it stood on 1 October 2026. Quotations are the brand's own words, reproduced as printed, including its own spelling and punctuation. We did not place an order, cancel one, raise a return or test any timeline. Policies change without notice and a brand may handle an individual case more generously than its written terms require; the live page and Mamaearth's own support channels are the authority on your order, not this article.
Before you buy: keep the mono carton until you have checked the bottle, and if you are having second thoughts, cancel rather than wait - the CANCEL button disappears at 'Ready to Ship', and after that there is no change-of-mind route at all.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mamaearth's return window?
Two windows, depending on the problem. Wrong or expired products: within 7 days of delivery. Damaged or missing products: within 2 days of delivery. Those are the brand's own figures as published on 1 October 2026. The page states that "No return or any other claim" is valid once the window has passed, and that opened, used or altered products, and products missing their original packaging, are not accepted at all.
Can I cancel a Mamaearth order?
Only up to a point in its journey. "Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'," using the CANCEL button on the order details page under My Account, giving a reason. After that status the published policy offers no cancellation route. Money on a cancelled order is processed within 7 business days, which is quicker than the return route. Mamaearth also reserves the right to cancel any order itself without pre-confirming the customer, and to verify an order before shipping it.
How long does a Mamaearth refund take?
It depends which route you are on. A cancelled order is refunded within 7 business working days. A returned product takes longer: 2 working days to review the request, 5-7 business days for pickup, and then - in the page's own words - "this entire process takes 2 weeks after the return has been picked up". Prepaid money goes back to the original payment method; cash-on-delivery customers must supply bank details. We have not tested any of these timelines.
Can I return a Mamaearth product I have opened?
No, under the published policy. The refusal list includes "Opened/ used/ altered products" and products whose "Original packaging (mono cartons, labels, etc.)" is missing. Returns are accepted only where the product delivered was wrong, expired, damaged - including tampered packaging - or where the order was incomplete. Contact Mamaearth's support about your specific order, since a brand may choose to handle an individual case differently from its written terms.
Who pays to ship a Mamaearth return back?
Mamaearth sends a courier partner to collect from your address. If reverse pickup is not available at your location, the page says you self-ship and the courier charges are reimbursed "either in your PayTM Wallet or Mamapay Wallet" - that is, as wallet credit rather than cash back to your bank. Partial returns are allowed, so you can return just the eligible products from a larger order.
