MakeMyTrip's gift card is simple to buy and simple to send. Its own page is less simple about whether you can use it during a sale — it answers that question both ways.
📅 Update log:
5 November 2026: first published. Every rule, price and quoted sentence read from MakeMyTrip's own gift-card page at makemytrip.com/gift-cards/, from India, with nothing purchased. The conflicting statements about clubbing the card with offers are both reproduced exactly as published, without resolving them.
A MakeMyTrip gift card starts at Rs. 1,000, lasts a year and can be sent over WhatsApp in a minute. We read the entire gift-card page on 5 November 2026 — FAQs, terms and the long marketing section underneath — and found the page answering one important question two different ways.
Can you use a gift card on top of a MakeMyTrip sale? The FAQ says no. The marketing copy further down the same page says yes, three separate times.
We are not calling either statement false. Both are published by MakeMyTrip on the same URL, and we quote both exactly below. What we will say is that a restriction written into a terms-and-conditions block is the version that normally governs at checkout, and a buyer should plan around the restrictive reading rather than the promotional one.
The contradiction, in MakeMyTrip's own words
| Where on the page | What it says |
|---|
| FAQ 12 — "things to keep in mind while buying a gift card" | "The MakeMyTrip Gift Card cannot be clubbed with any ongoing offer/discount/cashback or promotion run by MakeMyTrip." |
| Marketing section — "Use MakeMyTrip Travel Vouchers with Existing Offers" | "they can be used alongside existing deals, offers, and promotions on the MakeMyTrip app or official website. This feature allows the recipient to enjoy fantastic discounts..." |
| Marketing section — "The Amazing Benefits of a Travel Voucher" | "they can take advantage of ongoing promotions and offers on MakeMyTrip to unlock even bigger discounts." |
| Marketing section — "A Present with Amazing Benefits" | "they can take advantage of ongoing promotions and offers on MakeMyTrip to score even bigger discounts." |
The FAQ statement is the narrower and more specific one. It appears under the heading "What are the things to keep in mind while buying a gift card", sits in a list with the validity rule and the no-cash rule, and names four things it cannot be combined with: offer, discount, cashback or promotion.
The three permissive statements all sit in the long SEO prose at the bottom of the page, in sections headed "Use MakeMyTrip Travel Vouchers with Existing Offers", "The Amazing Benefits of a Travel Voucher" and "A Present with Amazing Benefits".
The practical consequence is about sequencing. If you are holding a card and waiting for a sale, you may find the coupon field and the gift card field do not co-operate. Test it in the booking flow with a cancellable booking before you count on the stack.
Apply the gift card last, and watch what happens to the coupon. MakeMyTrip's redemption route is: pick your travel, reach the payment page, choose "More options" then "Gift Card", enter the 16-digit number and 6-digit PIN, and pay any balance by another method. If a promo code silently drops off when the card is applied, that is the FAQ rule taking effect.
The expiry rule, and how the money can disappear
| What happens | MakeMyTrip's published rule |
|---|
| You cancel a booking inside validity | The cancellation charge is deducted and the balance returns to the same card |
| You cancel a booking after the card has expired | "No refund will be processed for the amount paid using the Gift Card" |
| A transaction fails after the card is applied | The amount is auto-refunded to the same card within 24 hours |
| You lose the card number or PIN | Nothing can be done — "we will not be able to reset the PIN or reissue a new Gift Card number" |
| The card is lost, stolen or used without permission | "MakeMyTrip is not responsible", and will not issue a replacement |
| A dispute over the rules | MakeMyTrip "is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules"; exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New Delhi |
| The most MakeMyTrip can be liable for | The value of the card — "In no event shall the liability of MakeMyTrip for any claims exceed the value of the card" |
The expired-cancellation rule is the one that costs real money. Book a trip with a gift card, cancel after the card's validity has run out, and MakeMyTrip's terms say plainly: "no refund will be processed for the amount paid using the Gift Card". The refund has nowhere to go, because the only place it can be returned to is the card, and the card is dead.
Combine that with "validity cannot be extended under any circumstances" and the honest advice is simple: treat the card as having a hard deadline, and do not use it to pay for travel that sits close to the end of its life.
The PIN rule is the other quiet trap. MakeMyTrip states it cannot reset a PIN or reissue a card number, and recommends saving both "till the amount on the gift card exhausts". A card with a balance and no recoverable PIN is simply gone.
The basics, as published
| Detail | What the page says |
|---|
| Minimum value | INR 1,000 |
| Extra charges | "There are no extra charges on this voucher and the receiver can use the whole amount" |
| Validity | 365 days in the FAQ, 12 months in the terms — both from date of purchase |
| Can validity be extended? | "The Gift Card validity cannot be extended under any circumstances" |
| How many cards in one booking | Up to 3 can be combined |
| Partial redemption | Allowed — the balance stays on the card and can be reused within validity |
| What you need to redeem | The 16-digit card number and the 6-digit PIN |
| Can it be exchanged for cash? | No — "cannot be cancelled or exchanged for cash" |
| Delivery | Email or WhatsApp, instantly, worldwide |
The validity figure appears twice in two forms — "valid for 365 days from the date of purchase" in the FAQ and "valid for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase" in the terms. In a non-leap year those are the same thing, and we note it only so nobody is surprised by a one-day difference.
What a MakeMyTrip gift card cannot buy
| Product | Status |
|---|
| Tours & Attractions | Not valid |
| Visa services | Not valid |
| Cruise | Not valid |
| Forex Card & Currency | Not valid |
| Flights, hotels, holidays, trains, buses, cabs | Valid — redeemable online or in the app |
| Holiday packages booked offline | Valid, by calling 0124-4628747 between 9 AM and 9 PM; card code or physical copy plus ID proof required |
| Use by travel agents | Banned — "Travel agents found using the card will lead to cancellation of booking and no refund will be made" |
Forex, visa and cruise are the exclusions most likely to catch people, because all three are sold on MakeMyTrip and all three feel like travel spending. Tours & Attractions is the fourth, which rules out the activity bookings often added to a holiday.
Offline holiday redemption is possible but manual — MakeMyTrip gives a dedicated number, 0124-4628747, staffed 9 AM to 9 PM, and requires the card code or physical copy plus ID proof.
Support contacts and the fine print on disputes
The page publishes three separate email addresses: giftvouchers@makemytrip.com for order status, delivery, purchase or usage queries; gifts@makemytrip.com for offline holiday package bookings; and feedback.giftvouchers@makemytrip.com for feedback and other concerns. Offline holiday redemption runs on 0124-4628747, and the customer care number given for gift-card holiday bookings is 0124-4859657.
Three clauses decide how any argument ends. "MakeMyTrip is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules." "In no event shall the liability of MakeMyTrip for any claims exceed the value of the card." And "In the event of any dispute, parties agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New Delhi" — which matters if you do not live in Delhi NCR.
MakeMyTrip also "reserves the right to deny acceptance of any Gift Card if it suspects duplicity of cards", and bans travel-agent use outright, with cancellation of the booking and no refund as the stated consequence.
Buying one? Three things first
Do not count on stacking it with a sale. The FAQ says the card "cannot be clubbed with any ongoing offer/discount/cashback or promotion run by MakeMyTrip", even though the marketing copy on the same page says three times that it can. Assume the restriction.
Treat the expiry as a hard wall. Validity "cannot be extended under any circumstances", and cancelling a booking after it lapses means "no refund will be processed for the amount paid using the Gift Card".
Save the 16-digit number and the 6-digit PIN somewhere you will not lose them. MakeMyTrip states it cannot reset a PIN or reissue a number, and is not responsible if the card is lost, stolen or used without permission.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a MakeMyTrip gift card be used with a coupon or sale offer?
MakeMyTrip's own page answers this two different ways, and the restrictive answer is in the terms. Its FAQ on things to keep in mind when buying states: "The MakeMyTrip Gift Card cannot be clubbed with any ongoing offer/discount/cashback or promotion run by MakeMyTrip." Further down the same page, in the long marketing section, it says three separate times that the vouchers "can be used alongside existing deals, offers, and promotions" and let the recipient "take advantage of ongoing promotions and offers". Both are published by MakeMyTrip, read 5 November 2026, and we are quoting both. A restriction written into a terms-and-conditions block is normally the version applied at checkout, so plan around the restrictive reading and test the combination on a cancellable booking before relying on it.
How long is a MakeMyTrip gift card valid, and can it be extended?
One year, and no. The FAQ says the card is "valid for 365 days from the date of purchase and can be used multiple times within this period unless the amount is exhausted"; the terms block says "valid for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase". On extension the page is unambiguous: "The Gift Card validity cannot be extended under any circumstances." There is a sharper consequence buried in the same block: "In case of cancellations where the Gift Card validity has expired, no refund will be processed for the amount paid using the Gift Card." So if you book travel with a card and cancel after the card has lapsed, that money is not returned at all — the only place a refund can go is the card, and the card is dead.
What can you not buy with a MakeMyTrip gift card?
Four things are excluded by name: "This Gift Card is not valid on Tours & Attractions, Visa, Cruise, Forex Card & Currency." Everything else on the platform is in scope — flights, hotels, holiday packages, trains, buses and cabs — redeemable on makemytrip.com or the Android and iOS apps. Holiday packages can also be redeemed offline by calling 0124-4628747 between 9 AM and 9 PM, with the card code or a physical copy plus ID proof. The card also cannot be exchanged for cash or cancelled, and travel-agent use is banned outright: "Travel agents found using the card will lead to cancellation of booking and no refund will be made."
How do you redeem a MakeMyTrip gift card, and can you use more than one?
Up to three cards can be combined in a single booking, and partial redemption is allowed. MakeMyTrip's route: select your travel and fill in details until the payment page, click "More options" and choose "Gift Card" as the payment mode (on the apps, pick "Gift Card" directly), enter the 16-digit card number and 6-digit PIN, then pay any remaining balance with another method. Unused value stays on the card for the rest of its validity and can be used across multiple transactions. If a transaction fails after the card is applied, the page says the amount is automatically refunded to the same card within 24 hours.
What happens if a MakeMyTrip gift card is lost or the PIN is forgotten?
It cannot be replaced. MakeMyTrip's terms state: "MakeMyTrip is not responsible if the Gift Card is lost, stolen, or used without permission", and its FAQ adds that "MakeMyTrip will not be responsible for any kind of theft, fraud, or loss of a card" and will not issue a new one. On the PIN specifically: "we will not be able to reset the PIN or reissue a new Gift Card number", with the page recommending you save both "till the amount on the gift card exhausts". Three further clauses are worth knowing: MakeMyTrip "is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules", its liability "for any claims" cannot exceed the value of the card, and any dispute goes to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New Delhi.
Prices & codes last verified: November 5, 2026
Every rule, price, contact detail and quoted sentence on this page was read from MakeMyTrip's own gift-card page at makemytrip.com/gift-cards/ on 5 November 2026, from India, with no gift card purchased and no booking made. Where the page states two incompatible things — the FAQ saying the card cannot be clubbed with any ongoing offer, discount, cashback or promotion, and the marketing copy saying three times that it can be used alongside existing deals and offers — both statements are reproduced here exactly as published. We have not tested the combination at checkout and we are not asserting that either statement is false. Our observation that a terms-and-conditions clause normally governs over marketing prose is general reasoning, not a ruling on MakeMyTrip's terms. This page is not legal advice and is not a complete account of the gift-card terms; the live terms shown at purchase and checkout govern. MakeMyTrip states that it "is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules", that its liability for any claim cannot exceed the value of the card, and that disputes fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New Delhi. Terms, validity, exclusions and contact details change without notice.
