Professional Email is GoDaddy's mailbox-on-your-own-domain product, and the contract behind it — the Email Services Agreement — is published in full on its legal shelf. We read it on 3 November 2026 from India, with nothing bought.

Its most important sentence is about what the product declines to be: "Except for customers using the Email Backup service, the Email Services are not intended for archival purposes. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent back-up copies." That is sensible drafting — no hosted mailbox can promise to be a legal archive. It is also not what most people assume they are buying.

📅 Update log:
3 Nov 2026: first published. Every clause described and quoted on this page was read from GoDaddy's own published Email Services Agreement at godaddy.com/en-in/legal/agreements/email-services-agreement on 3 November 2026, from India, with nothing bought and no service used. No price is quoted on this page because the agreement states none — it incorporates plan limits and pricing from the product landing pages by reference.

GoDaddy's Professional Email is the mailbox you get on your own domain. The contract behind it is the Email Services Agreement, published in full at godaddy.com/en-in/legal/agreements. We read it on 3 November 2026 from India, with nothing bought and no service used.

The sentence that matters most is about what the product is not: "Except for customers using the Email Backup service, the Email Services are not intended for archival purposes. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent back-up copies of your emails, files, distribution lists and other content." A paid mailbox that explicitly declines to be your record of what you sent.

To be clear up front: this is sensible drafting, not a red flag. No hosted mailbox can promise to be a legal archive, and a provider that implied otherwise would be the one to worry about. Banning bulk mail and scanning for spam are equally ordinary. Nothing on this page alleges wrongdoing by GoDaddy. It is here because the archival disclaimer, the plan-limit consequences and the identity of the software supplier are all things people assume rather than check.

The mailbox is not an archive, and the backup add-on is not a compliance tool

The base position is stated once and stated plainly. "Except for customers using the Email Backup service, the Email Services are not intended for archival purposes. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent back-up copies of your emails, files, distribution lists and other content. We expressly disclaim any liability or responsibility for any loss, damage or destruction of your emails, files, distribution lists or any other content."

Buying the paid Email Backup add-on narrows that, but less than the name suggests. The agreement says backup "frequency, retention periods, restoration capabilities, availability and storage scope may vary depending on the applicable service plan, configuration, system limitations and third-party service availability"; that GoDaddy "uses commercially reasonable efforts" but "does not warrant that all data will be available, recoverable or restorable in all circumstances"; and that "backup data may be permanently deleted following expiration, cancellation or termination of the applicable Email Services or Email Backup subscription".

Then the sentence that decides whether this product answers a compliance requirement: "Email Backup is not intended to satisfy legal retention, compliance or archival obligations unless expressly stated otherwise." If a regulator, an auditor or a contract requires you to retain correspondence for a fixed period, this agreement does not say the add-on does that job.

Drive carries the same warning. "You are responsible for maintaining independent backup copies of files stored in Drive. Drive is not intended to serve as a backup or archival service, and files may be deleted following expiration, cancellation, downgrade or termination." Note downgrade — moving to a smaller plan is listed alongside cancelling.

If email is a business record for you, export it somewhere you control. The agreement's own position is that independent backup copies are your responsibility on the base service, that the paid add-on is best-efforts rather than warranted, and that backup data may be deleted once the subscription ends. The one storage figure the document states is up to 50 GB of backup per licensed mailbox on Titan-supplied plans.

Nine kinds of limit, and no number for any of them

The agreement says plans carry limits and then lists what they may limit, without quantifying a single one. "Our Email Services are offered with different plan levels or limits including without limitation the plan limits set forth below, those we may impose from time to time in the prevention of abuse and other limits that may relate to" — and then the list below.

The numbers live on the product landing pages, not in the contract, which means they can move independently of it. The agreement also reserves the right to "MODIFY, CHANGE, OR DISCONTINUE ANY ASPECT OF EMAIL SERVICES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION FEATURES, PRICES AND FEES FOR THE SAME, AT ANY TIME" — capitals GoDaddy's own.

Recipients allowed per email messageNot stated in the agreement

What happens when you cross one is a three-way choice, and it is GoDaddy's. "If your account usage for any Email Service exceeds your plan-specific limits disclosed to you at the time of signup, you must either (i) upgrade to a plan that sufficiently meets your account usage, or (ii) reduce your account usage... Should you fail to take one of these two actions, we reserve the right to (a) limit the features and the functionality of the Email Services (b) charge additional usage fees to your account or (c) terminate your account."

And the finding of fact is GoDaddy's too: "Account usage determinations shall be made by us in our sole and absolute discretion." One smaller clause worth knowing alongside it: "unused monthly allotments will not accrue or carry over from month to month".

What you may not use the mailbox for

Four prohibited uses are named directly, and the first is the one that catches small businesses. "You acknowledge and agree that you will not use any of the Email Services to (i) send high-volume, mass or bulk emails, (ii) except where such storage is an intended functionality of an applicable Email Service, store audio or video files (or other large files or media not intended for emailing), (iii) provide a backup solution for hosting accounts, or (iv) any other uses in violation of our policies."

The enforcement line follows immediately: "We may block, suspend or terminate any Email Services if you or your account is in violation of this Agreement." A newsletter sent from a professional mailbox is exactly the pattern this clause describes.

UseStatus under the agreementWhat to do instead
High-volume, mass or bulk emailProhibitedUse a dedicated marketing-mail product; a professional mailbox is not one
Storing audio, video or other large mediaProhibited unless it is an intended feature of the serviceDrive exists for files, within its own limits
Using the mailbox as a backup for a hosting accountProhibitedNamed explicitly as a banned use
Hosting high-traffic website content on Drive public linksProhibited, as determined by GoDaddy "in our sole and absolute discretion"Drive sharing is for sharing, not for serving
Any other use violating GoDaddy's policiesProhibited, "as may be updated from time to time"The policies can change without the agreement changing

The spam filter you cannot turn off, and cannot be compensated for

"All email sent to and from your email address will automatically be scanned... and this feature cannot be disabled or configured by you." That is the whole of your control over it.

The agreement is candid about the consequence. The filter "is not guaranteed to be one hundred percent (100%) effective or error-free and may delete email messages and/or attachments that you wish to send or receive, or allow the transmission of spam and/or viruses".

And the liability position: GoDaddy "shall have no liability to you or any third party with respect to our spam and virus protection feature, your failure to send or receive any email messages and/or attachments as a result thereof". If a filtered message costs you a contract, the agreement places that loss with you. This is standard across hosted mail and is stated here rather than buried.

Who actually runs your GoDaddy mailbox

The agreement discloses that third-party software sits behind the product, and names the supplier:

"Without limiting the foregoing, where the Email Services are provided using tools or software supplied by Titan Solution Ltd SEZC (‘Titan’), your use of such Email Services is subject to" — and then Titan's own terms, which apply "in addition to (and not in lieu of)" the GoDaddy agreement.

Two practical consequences. First, support stays with GoDaddy: "We, and not any third-party provider, will provide technical support for the software." Second, anything you buy from a third party alongside the mailbox is yours to cancel: "You must cancel or terminate any such paid subscription and/or account with the applicable third-party provider and not with GoDaddy."

GoDaddy also states that it will "share your information with trusted third-party service providers" for payment processing, security, risk management, compliance and identity verification.

Two setup details worth knowing before you buy

  • Your DNS is edited for you. "We will automatically add necessary DNS records (including but not limited to SRV, MX, CNAME and TXT records,) to your domain if it is registered with GoDaddy." You can manage them afterwards — and the agreement notes they "may be removed when the last email address associated with the domain name is removed or when the domain name is transferred".
  • The interface may not be in your language. "Email Services do not support all local languages. If a local language is not supported, then the product will default to English only." No list of supported languages appears in the agreement.
  • The calendar needs CalDAV. Online Calendar "is available via the CalDAV protocol", and if that is not native to your client "you will need to install an application that supports CalDAV" — or, if none exists, "you will not be able to synchronize Online Calendar across platforms".
  • Free is a smaller version of paid, under the same rules. "Free Email Services may offer fewer features than the paid versions", and either way "your use... is subject to both the general provisions of this Agreement and the provisions specific to whichever Email Service(s) you use".

What to settle before you buy a mailbox

  • Decide where your real archive lives. The base service is "not intended for archival purposes" and independent backups are explicitly your job.
  • Do not buy Email Backup to answer a compliance requirement without checking it against that requirement: it "is not intended to satisfy legal retention, compliance or archival obligations unless expressly stated otherwise", and backup data may be deleted once the subscription ends.
  • Find the plan numbers on the product page. The agreement names nine kinds of limit and quantifies none of them except 50 GB of backup storage per licensed mailbox on Titan plans.
  • Send newsletters from a newsletter product. High-volume, mass and bulk email is prohibited outright, and violation allows GoDaddy to block, suspend or terminate the service.
  • Expect the spam filter to be permanent and imperfect. It cannot be disabled, it may delete mail you wanted, and GoDaddy accepts no liability if it does.
  • Know that Titan supplies the software on the relevant plans, that its terms apply in addition, and that GoDaddy — not Titan — handles support.
  • Budget for price changes. The agreement reserves the right to change features, prices and fees "at any time" and states no price itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does GoDaddy Professional Email keep a backup of my emails?
Not on the base service, on the agreement's own wording. "Except for customers using the Email Backup service, the Email Services are not intended for archival purposes. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent back-up copies of your emails, files, distribution lists and other content." GoDaddy "expressly disclaim[s] any liability or responsibility for any loss, damage or destruction" of that content. The paid Email Backup add-on is provided on a "commercially reasonable efforts basis", does not warrant that all data will be recoverable, and states up to 50 GB of storage per licensed mailbox on Titan-supplied plans. Export anything you need to keep.
Can I use GoDaddy email to send a newsletter or bulk mail?
No. The agreement prohibits it outright: "you will not use any of the Email Services to (i) send high-volume, mass or bulk emails". The same clause bans storing audio or video files in the mailbox and using it "to provide a backup solution for hosting accounts". Enforcement is stated in the next sentence: "We may block, suspend or terminate any Email Services if you or your account is in violation of this Agreement." Use a dedicated marketing-email product for campaigns. No threshold for "high-volume" is given in the document.
What happens if I go over my GoDaddy email plan's limit?
GoDaddy gets a three-way choice and makes the finding of fact itself. If usage exceeds the plan limits you must upgrade or reduce usage, and failing that GoDaddy reserves the right to "(a) limit the features and the functionality of the Email Services (b) charge additional usage fees to your account or (c) terminate your account". "Account usage determinations shall be made by us in our sole and absolute discretion." Note also that "unused monthly allotments will not accrue or carry over from month to month". The actual numbers are not in the agreement — it names nine kinds of limit and quantifies none.
Can I turn off GoDaddy's email spam filter?
No. "All email sent to and from your email address will automatically be scanned... and this feature cannot be disabled or configured by you." The agreement also states it "is not guaranteed to be one hundred percent (100%) effective or error-free and may delete email messages and/or attachments that you wish to send or receive", and that GoDaddy "shall have no liability to you or any third party" for mail you fail to send or receive as a result. That combination — always on, imperfect, no liability — is standard across hosted email and is disclosed here rather than buried.
Who actually provides GoDaddy's email software?
A third party, named in the agreement: Titan Solution Ltd SEZC. "Where the Email Services are provided using tools or software supplied by Titan Solution Ltd SEZC (‘Titan’), your use of such Email Services is subject to" Titan's own terms, which apply "in addition to (and not in lieu of)" GoDaddy's. Support still runs through GoDaddy: "We, and not any third-party provider, will provide technical support for the software." But anything you buy separately from a third party must be cancelled with that provider "and not with GoDaddy".

Every clause described, paraphrased or quoted on this page was read from GoDaddy's own published Email Services Agreement at godaddy.com/en-in/legal/agreements/email-services-agreement on 3 November 2026, from India, with nothing bought and no service used. This page is a plain-English reading of a commercial contract. It is not legal advice, it is not a complete summary of the agreement, and it must not be relied on in place of the document itself or of professional advice. The agreement incorporates GoDaddy's Universal Terms of Service, Titan Solution Ltd SEZC's own terms and the plan limits published on GoDaddy's product pages by reference, so it is not the whole of what binds a user. GoDaddy reserves the right to change features, prices and fees at any time — check the live document before acting on anything here. Nothing on this page alleges wrongdoing by GoDaddy: disclaiming archival duty, scanning all mail for spam and prohibiting bulk sending are ordinary and sensible terms for a hosted mailbox, disclosed openly in the contract.
