Every D2C checkout looks the same and every cancellation clause behind it is different. We read six brands' own /policies pages on 9 October 2026 — Mamaearth, mCaffeine, Minimalist, Dot & Key, Beardo and Snitch, plus WOW — and the window a buyer actually gets ranges from three hours to nothing published at all.
Only one of them lets you do it yourself. One of them tells you, in writing, that cancelling burns your discount code. Three of them reserve a cancellation right for the brand that is wider than the one they give you. Below: every clause quoted verbatim, a side-by-side table, the full text in a drop-down, and what to do about it before your next festive order. Published policy only; nothing here is legal advice.
Verbatim, from mCaffeine's own refund policy

"If you wish to cancel your order, you can do so by sending us an email at woot@mcaffeine.com within 3 hours of placing the order"
📅 Update log:
9 October 2026 — First publication. Seven brands' /policies/refund-policy and /policies/terms-of-service pages fetched first-party, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased and no order placed: Mamaearth, mCaffeine, Minimalist, Dot & Key, Beardo (Marico Limited), Snitch, WOW (buywow.in) and Sugar Cosmetics. Six are quoted. Clauses read and recorded: mCaffeine's three-hour cancellation window, its email and phone routes and stated customer care hours, and its five-day complaint windows; Mamaearth's self-serve CANCEL button, its "Ready to Ship" status limit, its seven-business-day cancellation refund commitment, its two-day damaged-or-missing window, its seven-day returns window and its reserved right to cancel without pre-confirmation; Snitch's cancellation-until-dispatch rule, its seven-day returns and exchange window, its Rs. 100 courier credit and its thirty-working-day refund ceiling; WOW's no-cancellation-after-dispatch rule, its 1-4 business day and 7 day dispatch targets, its one-time-voucher-treated-as-used clause, its loyalty-points-restored clause and its 24-hour damage and shortage reporting windows; Beardo's 48-working-hour refund initiation, its 4-8 day credit estimate, its same-account refund route and Marico's sole-discretion cancellation right; Minimalist's absence of any cancellation clause, its three stated refund grounds, its seven-day hard cut-off and its 24-hour refund initiation; Dot & Key's absence of any customer cancellation clause, its pricing-error cancellation right, its 48-hour return notification window and its 7 and 14 working-day refund timings. Sugar Cosmetics is excluded: both policy URLs served navigation markup and no policy body to a plain fetch on this date. Policies verified 9 October 2026.
The shortest window is three hours, and you cannot use a button
mCaffeine publishes the tightest cancellation clause of the six brands read here, and it is worth quoting in full because every word of it costs something: "Cancellation Policy : If you wish to cancel your order, you can do so by sending us an email at woot@mcaffeine.com within 3 hours of placing the order. You can also call on our Customer Care number +91-9357933933 (Timings: 9:30 am - 6:30 pm) Once orders have been dispatched, they cannot be canceled."
Three hours is short. What makes it shorter is the route: there is no cancel button in the account area, so the clock runs against an email that somebody has to read, or a phone line that is open nine hours a day. An order placed at 8 pm has a three-hour window that overlaps with no staffed hours at all. That is not an allegation of anything — a brand is entitled to set its own hours and its own window — it is simply the arithmetic a buyer should do before clicking pay at night.
For comparison, mCaffeine's post-delivery windows are generous by the standards of this group: five days to report a wrong, missing, leaked or damaged item, and a stated 24-hour response commitment on each of those routes. The tight number is specifically the pre-dispatch one.
Only one of the six gives you a button
Mamaearth is the only brand in this read whose published policy describes self-serve cancellation: "You can cancel order from CANCEL button from order details page under My account section. You just need to give reason for cancellation, and leave rest on us."
The limit is a fulfilment status rather than a clock: "Note - Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'." That is a different kind of deadline from mCaffeine's three hours — it could be longer or very much shorter depending on how fast the warehouse moves, and nothing on the page says how long it typically is. Mamaearth also states the refund timing for this specific case: "We will process your refund within 7 business days incase of cancellation of an order."
Snitch ties its window to the same event in plainer words: "Cancellations will only be possible till the order has not been dispatched from our warehouse." WOW (buywow.in) states it as a negative: "Orders once dispatched are not eligible for cancellation", alongside a published dispatch target of "within 1-4 business days" and a maximum of "7 days from the Date of Order", which at least lets a buyer estimate the window.
Two of the six publish no customer cancellation window at all
Minimalist's refund policy does not contain the word "cancel", and neither does its terms of service. What it does publish is a narrow returns rule: "We offer refunds / replacements only in following cases: You received a wrong shipment You received a damaged product You received an expired product", with a seven-day deadline and "No return or any other claim will be acceptable or valid after the expiration of 7 days from the time of delivery of the product." Credit where it is due on speed: "If the issues described by you are verified, our team will initiate a refund within 24 hours."
Dot & Key's refund policy is also silent on customer cancellation. Its terms of service mention cancellation only as the brand's own right: "In the event that a product is listed at an incorrect price or with incorrect information due to an error in pricing or product information, Dot & Key shall have the right, at its sole discretion, to refuse or cancel any orders placed for that product, unless the product has already been dispatched."
A policy that does not publish a cancellation window is not a policy that refuses cancellations, and no such suggestion is made here — most customer-service teams will stop an order that has not left the building if you ask. The practical difference is that you have nothing in writing to point at, and you cannot plan around a rule that is not stated.
What each brand's own page says, side by side
| Brand | Can you cancel yourself? | Stated window | Stated refund timing |
|---|
| mCaffeine | No — email or phone only | Within 3 hours of placing the order; none after dispatch | Not stated for cancellation; 24-hour response on complaints |
| Mamaearth | Yes — CANCEL button in My Account | Until order status is “Ready to Ship” | Within 7 business days of cancellation |
| Snitch | Not stated | Until the order is dispatched from the warehouse | Within 30 working days of confirming entitlement |
| WOW (buywow.in) | Not stated | Until dispatch; stated dispatch is 1–4 business days | Initiated after the product is returned and verified |
| Beardo (Marico) | Not stated | No customer window published | Initiated within 48 working hours, credited in 4–8 days |
| Minimalist | Not stated | No cancellation clause on either page | Refund initiated within 24 hours once verified |
| Dot & Key | Not stated | No cancellation clause on either page | 7 working days online, 14 working days for COD |
Every cell above is the brand's own published wording on 9 October 2026 or an honest "not stated". “Not stated” means the two policy pages we read did not address it — it is not a statement that the brand refuses, delays or mishandles anything. Sugar Cosmetics is absent from the table because its /policies/refund-policy and /policies/terms-of-service both served navigation markup and no policy body to a plain fetch, so there was nothing to quote.
The clause that costs you money even when the cancellation works
WOW publishes a consequence the others do not: "Discount vouchers are intended for one-time use only and shall be treated as used even if you cancel the order." Cancel an order placed with a one-time code and the code is gone; the goods come back to the warehouse but the discount does not come back to you.
The same policy treats loyalty currency the other way: "If you had redeemed loyalty points for an order, the same will be credited back to your account in the case of a cancellation." Points return, vouchers do not.
Neither rule is improper and no wrongdoing is alleged — single-use promotional codes are single-use almost everywhere, and WOW is being unusually clear by writing the consequence down rather than leaving a buyer to discover it. The reason it matters is that it inverts the usual advice. On a brand with this clause, an order placed with a hard-won festive code is an order you should get right the first time, because the cheapest way to fix a wrong shade or size is to wait for delivery and use the returns route, not to cancel.
The right the brands keep for themselves is wider than yours
Three of the six publish an explicit, unqualified right to cancel your order. Mamaearth: "Mamaearth reserves the right to cancel any order without pre-confirming the customer at any time and may verify any order before shipping the same to the customer that may include having a verbal or written confirmation from the customer." Marico, which owns Beardo: "Marico Limited reserves the right to reject or cancel any orders at its sole discretion without any prior notice." Dot & Key's pricing-error clause, quoted above, is the narrowest of the three.
Mamaearth's terms also set out when it expects an order to be cancelled from its side: "Please note that your order will be cancelled due to: (i) unavailability of the Product ordered; or (ii) at your instructions, in the event of failure to deliver the Product on the expected time of delivery by our delivery partners", followed by "You agree that the Company shall not be liable to pay for any damage or loss either direct or indirect owing to such cancellation of the order or delay in delivery."
Seller-side cancellation rights of this kind are standard across Indian e-commerce, entirely lawful, and are mostly used for stock-outs, pricing errors and fraud screening. Nothing here suggests any brand uses them otherwise. The only observation worth making is the asymmetry: on four of these six sites the brand has a written cancellation right and the customer does not.

What to do with this before your next festive order
Four practical consequences. One: on mCaffeine, place the order inside 9:30 am to 6:30 pm if there is any chance you will change your mind — the three-hour window is only usable while someone is there to read the email. Two: on Mamaearth, the cancel button lives in My Account under order details and stops working the moment the status flips to "Ready to Ship", so check it the same hour rather than the next morning. Three: on WOW, a cancelled order burns a one-time discount voucher permanently, so if you used a festive code, taking delivery and returning is the cheaper correction. Four: on Minimalist and Dot & Key there is no published window to rely on, so write to customer care immediately and keep the timestamp — and note that Minimalist's stated refund grounds are limited to a wrong, damaged or expired product, with a hard seven-day cut-off after delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have to cancel a D2C order in India?
It depends entirely on the brand, and the range in this read of six brands' own policies on 9 October 2026 is wide. mCaffeine states three hours from placing the order, by email or a phone line open 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. Mamaearth allows self-serve cancellation until the order status reaches “Ready to Ship”. Snitch and WOW both tie the window to dispatch, with WOW stating that it usually dispatches in 1–4 business days. Minimalist and Dot & Key publish no customer cancellation window at all on either their refund policy or their terms of service. Those are the published rules on that date; policies change, and nothing here describes how any brand actually handles a request.
Can I cancel a Mamaearth order after placing it?
Mamaearth's own policy says yes, with a status limit: "You can cancel order from CANCEL button from order details page under My account section", and "Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'." It is the only brand of the six read here that publishes a self-serve route rather than an email or phone one. For the money, the policy states "We will process your refund within 7 business days incase of cancellation of an order." Mamaearth separately reserves the right to cancel an order from its own side without pre-confirming the customer, which is a standard and lawful e-commerce clause.
Do I lose my coupon if I cancel an order?
On at least one of these brands, yes, and it says so plainly. WOW's policy reads "Discount vouchers are intended for one-time use only and shall be treated as used even if you cancel the order." Loyalty points are handled the other way: "If you had redeemed loyalty points for an order, the same will be credited back to your account in the case of a cancellation." The other five brands read here do not address vouchers in their cancellation clauses at all, which means you cannot assume either outcome. Single-use promotional codes being single-use is ordinary and lawful, and no wrongdoing is alleged of anyone. The practical consequence is that if you paid with a code you care about, returning after delivery may cost you less than cancelling.
What happens if a brand cancels my order?
Three of the six publish an explicit right to do so. Mamaearth "reserves the right to cancel any order without pre-confirming the customer at any time"; Marico, which owns Beardo, "reserves the right to reject or cancel any orders at its sole discretion without any prior notice"; Dot & Key may cancel where a product was listed at an incorrect price "unless the product has already been dispatched". Mamaearth's terms add that it will not be liable "for any damage or loss either direct or indirect owing to such cancellation of the order or delay in delivery". Seller-side cancellation rights are standard across Indian e-commerce and entirely lawful, and are typically exercised for stock-outs, pricing errors and fraud checks. Your money comes back by the brand's stated refund route; nothing here is legal advice about any particular dispute.
Which D2C brand refunds a cancelled order fastest?
On stated timings rather than observed ones, Beardo publishes the quickest start — "Your refund will be initiated within 48 working hours of receiving the refund request", with the money "credited in the account, between 4-8 days after initiating the refund". Mamaearth states 7 business days specifically for a cancelled order, which is the only clause of the six that names a figure for cancellation rather than for returns. Dot & Key states 7 working days online and 14 working days for COD, and Snitch states up to 30 working days from confirming entitlement. These are each brand's own published commitments read on one day; we did not place, cancel or refund any order, and nothing here reports how long a refund actually takes.

Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every clause quoted here was read on 9 October 2026 from the brand's own /policies/refund-policy and /policies/terms-of-service pages, fetched logged out, in India, with nothing purchased, no account created, no order placed, no order cancelled and no customer service team contacted. Quotations are reproduced verbatim including the originals' own spelling, spacing and punctuation. This page describes published policy text as it stood on one date. It does not describe how any brand applies that text, how quickly any request is answered, whether any cancellation or refund is granted in practice, or what any individual customer's experience has been or will be. A brand's published policy can be amended at any time without notice and several of these pages are undated, so the wording you see today may differ; always read the brand's own current page before relying on anything here. Where this page says a window or a timing is "not stated", that means the two pages we read did not address it — it is not a statement that the brand refuses cancellations, withholds refunds, delays money, or treats customers unfairly, and no such suggestion is made of any brand named here. Sugar Cosmetics is excluded from the comparison solely because both of its policy URLs served navigation markup rather than policy text to a plain fetch on this date, which is an ordinary consequence of client-side rendering and says nothing whatsoever about its policies. Setting a cancellation window, tying it to dispatch or to a fulfilment status, requiring cancellation by email or telephone rather than by a self-serve button, operating limited customer-care hours, treating a single-use promotional voucher as consumed on cancellation, restoring loyalty points on cancellation, reserving a right to reject or cancel orders at the seller's discretion, excluding liability for loss arising from a cancellation or delivery delay, and limiting refunds to stated grounds are all ordinary and lawful commercial decisions taken by retailers throughout India and worldwide, and the presence, absence or shortness of any clause on this page is not evidence of wrongdoing. No statement here alleges an unfair contract term, an unfair trade practice, a dark pattern, misleading advertising, deficiency in service or any breach of the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, the Legal Metrology Act, the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, the Information Technology Act or any other law, rule or policy by Honasa Consumer Limited, Mamaearth, The Derma Co, mCaffeine (PEP Technologies Private Limited), Minimalist (Uprising Science Private Limited), Dot & Key, Marico Limited, Beardo, Snitch, Fab Box Retail, BuyWOW, WOW Skin Science, WOW Life Science, Sugar Cosmetics or any other company named or unnamed, and no view is expressed on whether any clause quoted here is valid, enforceable, reasonable or binding. Company ownership attributions are taken from the brands' own published pages. Nothing on this page is legal advice, and nothing on it should be relied on in a dispute. If an order of yours has gone wrong, contact the brand's own customer service in the first instance, and seek qualified advice about your rights under Indian consumer law. Product photographs are earlier listing images from these brands' own stores, already held on our CDN, shown to illustrate the brands this page concerns; they are not offers, no price is stated for them, and the products shown are not the subject of any clause quoted. Prices, offers, dispatch times and policies change without notice; the terms shown at your own checkout prevail over anything here.
