A hundred and twenty-two pet food listings read on one morning. Amazon prints the unit rate itself, which makes this the rare shelf where the comparison is already done — and the answer is a ten-fold spread.
Pet food is bought by the kilo and sold by the bag, which usually makes a shelf like this hard to compare. Not here: Amazon prints a per-100-gram rate on the tile itself, and on 98 of the 122 listings read on 10 October 2026 that rate reconciles with the pack weight the title states. Across those, food runs Rs. 10.15 to Rs. 108.20 per 100 g — a 20 kg Chappi sack at Rs. 101 a kilo against a Royal Canin breed bag at Rs. 1,082. And only six of the 122 listings are discounted at all.
Every price below was pulled from Amazon on October 10, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Amazon coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

A 6 kg Meat Up adult chicken pack, sold as 2 x 3 kg, at Rs. 764.
Why it earned its spot The largest rating pool on the page sits near the cheapest end.
A 5 kg bag of Amazon Basics chicken and rice dry dog food at Rs. 664.

Why it earned its spot 22% more per 100 g than the 2.8 kg bag of the identical recipe.

A 3 kg bag of Pedigree PRO adult large breed kibble at Rs. 879.
Why it earned its spot 61% more per 100 g than ordinary Pedigree in the same 3 kg bag.

Why it earned its spot 2.3 times the cheapest Pedigree, in the same 3 kg bag format.
From Rs. 53.80 to Rs. 108.20 a hundred grams — three Royal Canin breed bags of identical size priced 15.7% apart, and the Rs. 2,571-a-kilo treat the same search returns.
A 3 kg bag of Drools Focus puppy super premium food at Rs. 1,614.
Why it earned its spot Three times the standard Drools rate, on the thinnest evidence here.
A 3 kg bag of Canine Creek ultra-premium adult chicken food at Rs. 1,700.
Why it earned its spot 5.6 times the Chappi rate for the same job, from a specialist brand.
A 4 kg bag of Royal Canin Maxi adult chicken pellets at Rs. 2,864.
Why it earned its spot The cheapest Royal Canin rate here, and still seven times the Chappi floor.
A 3 kg bag of Royal Canin Labrador Retriever adult food at Rs. 2,806.
Why it earned its spot The cheapest of three identically sized breed-specific bags.
A 800 g bag of Royal Canin Mini Puppy dry food at Rs. 862.
Why it earned its spot The small-bag penalty at the premium end, with 9,361 ratings.

Why it earned its spot 10.7 times the cheapest kibble on the same shelf.
A 70 g pack of Chip Chops chicken tender dog treats at Rs. 180.
Why it earned its spot Rs. 2,571 a kilo, and the query returns it beside a Rs. 101-a-kilo sack.
Four checks before you order. First, read the per-100-gram line, not the price. Amazon prints it under the price on these tiles and it is the only number that compares a 800 g bag to a 20 kg sack; on this shelf it ranges ten-fold across ordinary dry food. Second, buy the biggest bag your animal will finish fresh — and no bigger. The same Pedigree chicken biryani recipe costs Rs. 15.71 per 100 g in 2.8 kg and Rs. 19.10 in 1 kg; Chappi is Rs. 10.15 in 20 kg and Rs. 12.39 in 2.8 kg. Kibble does go stale, so the saving is only real if the bag gets eaten. Third, do not expect a sale here. Six of 122 listings carried any discount badge in festive season, so waiting for one on this shelf is waiting for something that mostly does not happen. Fourth, separate food from treats before comparing anything. The same searches return dental sticks, munchy sticks and chicken tenders at up to Rs. 257 per 100 g, which wrecks any ranking they are mixed into. Nothing on this page is veterinary or nutritional advice — what an animal should eat depends on its age, breed, weight and health, and that is a question for a vet, not a price page. Nothing here was bought, opened, weighed or fed to an animal.

Each selling price, printed unit rate, star average and rating count here came from what amazon.in returned for the queries 'pet food dog', 'dog food 3kg' and 'cat food 1.2kg' on 10 October 2026, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased. 134 rows came back, 122 unique ASINs after removing listings that appeared under more than one query, and 20 are seated.
Amazon prints a per-100-gram rate on these tiles. We also computed the rate independently from the pack weight each listing states in its own title. On 98 of the 122 unique listings the two agree to within 12%, and only those 98 are used for any count, range or median on this page. Where a title does not state a weight plainly enough to check, the listing is excluded rather than estimated.
Nothing here was bought, opened, weighed or fed to an animal. Pack weights, ingredient lists, life-stage and breed suitability and every nutritional claim are the listings' own printed text, reproduced as printed. A price per 100 g compares what two tiles claim, which is the comparison a shopper makes on a search results page.
Only 6 of the 122 unique listings displayed any discount badge at all, in the middle of the festive season. There is therefore no stated-MRP arithmetic on this page and no card claims a saving; the cards show the selling price and the unit rate, which are the only two numbers the shelf actually publishes.
Rating pools on this shelf range from 9 to 25,253. No card carries a rating pill unless Amazon published a star average backed by at least 100 ratings, and the thinnest pool seated — nine ratings on a Rs. 1,614 bag — is named in its card rather than dressed up. This is a price page and nothing on it is veterinary or nutritional advice.
By unit rate, which is the figure that matters for food, a 20 kg Chappi adult chicken and rice bag at Rs. 2,031 — Rs. 10.15 per 100 g, or Rs. 101.55 a kilo, in this read of 122 listings on 10 October 2026. Below 5 kg the cheapest rates were a 3 kg Kennel Kitchen bag at Rs. 11.10 and a 2.8 kg Purepet bag at Rs. 13.75 per 100 g. The median across the 98 listings whose rate could be verified was Rs. 25.22 per 100 g. Those figures describe these listings on that date, not Amazon's full catalogue.
Use the per-100-gram or per-kilo rate, and on this shelf you do not have to work it out — Amazon prints the unit rate on the tile under the price, and on 98 of the 122 listings read it matched the pack weight stated in the listing's own title. The rule it reveals is consistent: the bigger bag is almost always cheaper per 100 g. Chappi is Rs. 10.15 in 20 kg against Rs. 12.39 in 2.8 kg; Royal Canin Maxi is Rs. 71.60 in 4 kg against Rs. 107.75 for an 800 g Mini Puppy bag. The exception is across recipes: Pedigree's 1 kg chicken biryani beats its own 3 kg Healthy Belly bag.
This page can report the gap but not justify it. Royal Canin's cheapest listing here is Rs. 71.60 per 100 g and its dearest is Rs. 108.20; Pedigree runs Rs. 15.71 to Rs. 36.00. At the extremes that is seven times the rate for the same stated purpose. Royal Canin sells breed-specific and life-stage formulations through veterinary channels, with different ingredient and nutrient specifications, and many owners and vets consider that difference material. Nothing here analyses, tests or compares the foods themselves, and nothing on this page is veterinary advice — what to feed an animal is a question for a vet.
Barely, on the evidence of this read. Only 6 of the 122 unique listings displayed any discount badge at all on 10 October 2026, in the middle of the festive season. That is unusual and it is worth knowing before planning a bulk order around a sale date: on this shelf there is almost no stated MRP and therefore almost no discount arithmetic to read. The lever that does exist is pack size — moving from a 1 kg bag to a 2.8 kg bag of the same Pedigree recipe saves 22% per 100 g, which is larger than most sale discounts on this shelf.
They are a different product and should not be compared on unit rate at all, which is exactly why this page seats one. A 70 g pack of Chip Chops chicken tenders at Rs. 180 works out at Rs. 257.14 per 100 g, or Rs. 2,571 a kilo — 25 times the cheapest kibble in the same search. Treats are fed in grams, not meals, so the rate is not the relevant number for them. The practical warning is for the search page: the same queries return food, treats, dental sticks and biscuits together, so sorting the results by unit price produces a ranking that compares things nobody would substitute for each other.
