A refund bigger than the fare is the kind of claim that usually dissolves on contact with the terms. AbhiBus's does not — its FAQ sets out precisely how the 150% is assembled: 100% of the booking back to however you paid, plus up to 50% more paid separately to your UPI ID or as non-promotional AbhiCash, with the choice left to you.

What the advertising does not say is that the Assured programme has four separate triggers paying four different amounts, that quality complaints are settled by arbitration between AbhiBus and the operator, and that every claim dies 24 hours after the journey ends. Below: all four payouts, the evidence each needs, the two six-hour cancellation windows, and the exclusions. Quoted as AbhiBus printed them on 3 October 2026.

Up to 150% on a cancelled service — 100% to source, up to 50% by UPI or AbhiCash

Claims close 24 hours after the journey ends
📅 Update log:
3 October 2026 — first published. abhibus.com/faq was read on 3 October 2026 with plain scrapling, logged out, in India, with nothing booked, travelled, cancelled or claimed. The AbhiBus Assured and Free Cancellation blocks quoted here are roughly thirty of the page's 190 lines of text; the AbhiCash validity figures come from the wallet block on the same page. Every rule, percentage and time window is AbhiBus's own published text as it read on that date and can be changed without notice. All compensation figures are stated by AbhiBus as maximums, using the word 'upto', and are reproduced that way here.

What the 150% actually consists of

A refund larger than the fare sounds like marketing. AbhiBus's FAQ is unusually precise about it, and the precision is the useful part.

'Customers are eligible for upto 150% refund in case of bus service cancellation. While 100% of the booking amount will be refunded back to the source or mode of payment, the remaining upto 50% amount will be refunded back through UPI ID of the customer or through Non-Promo Abhicash (100% redeemable on bus bookings) based on customer preference.'

Three things to take from that. First, the 100% comes back as money, to however you paid. Second, the extra 50% is paid separately — to a UPI ID you give them, or as non-promotional AbhiCash, and you choose which. Third, the word throughout is 'upto'. AbhiBus does not promise 150%; it caps the compensation there.

The AbhiCash option is worth a note of its own, because AbhiBus distinguishes two kinds. Non-promotional AbhiCash is described elsewhere in the same FAQ as having 'no expiry date' and being usable 'in full or part for booking bus tickets', while promotional AbhiCash carries 'a 90 days validity for promotional money from the day it gets added'. The Assured top-up is stated as non-promotional, which is the better of the two.

What went wrongWhat Assured pays, in AbhiBus's wordsConditions stated

Bus arrives more than 2 hours after the scheduled boarding timeFull refund — 'even if you avail the service'2-hour buffer, Assured partners only
Bus or crew quality below standard10% to 100%, 'depends on the arbitration between Abhibus and Bus partner'Photos, videos or audio may be requested
Wrong bus type to the one bookedCompensation stated, amount not specifiedAssured partners only
You cancel more than 6 hours before departureUp to 100% of base fareUnder AbhiAssured cancellation protection
You cancel less than 6 hours before departureBus partner's own cancellation policy appliesNo Assured protection
You miss the bus yourselfNo refund'arriving late at the pickup point is not considered for refund'
Partial cancellation of a multi-passenger bookingAssured benefits still apply to the travellers still bookedStated explicitly
Look for the ASSURED tag before you book, not after. AbhiBus states it plainly: 'Look for the ASSURED tag while booking your bus ticket to avail such benefits. The Assured benefits are limited to the AbhiBus Assured Bus Partners only.' None of the compensation on this page applies to a booking on a non-Assured service.

The 24-hour deadline that voids the whole thing

Every payout above depends on filing a grievance, and there is a window on it that is easy to blow past after a bad overnight journey.

'To get benefits and resolution for grievances related to Assured booking, please file the claims within 24 hours of journey end.'

Twenty-four hours from the end of the journey — not from booking, not from the incident. A bus that arrives three hours late at six in the morning gives you until six the following morning to file, and the FAQ describes no extension.

The mechanism is the same for every category: 'Simply visit your My Bookings section and file your grievance with Abhibus help team.' Evidence requirements differ by category, and AbhiBus is clear about which: 'While customers don't need to provide anything for bus delays and cancellations, for other categories such as quality issues customers can be asked to submit additional documents and evidence such as photos, videos and audio recordings.'

That distinction is worth planning around. If the complaint is about cleanliness or crew behaviour, take photographs on the bus — by AbhiBus's own description you may be asked for them, and the payout in that category is explicitly negotiable: 'The amount of refund depends on the arbitration between Abhibus and Bus partner and depending on the issue and grievance can be from 10% to 100% for this category.'

The delay rule is the most generous clause on the page

Most travel compensation schemes stop the moment you accept the service. AbhiBus's delay rule does not, and the FAQ answers the question directly.

'Can I claim a upto 100% refund even if I boarded the bus?' — 'YES. This is the advantage of the Assured Program. Even if you avail the service, if the bus arrives later than ASSURED time, you will get a upto 100% refund.'

The threshold is stated separately: 'In case of delay of the bus arrival beyond the buffer time of 2 hours after the scheduled arrival at the boarding point chosen in the booking, the customers will be compensated with a Full refund for the inconvenience caused. This benefit is exclusively for AbhiBus Assured Bus Partner services.'

Two hours is a long buffer — a ninety-minute delay, which ruins a connection, is not covered by this clause at all. But past that line the compensation is a full refund on a journey you actually took, and no evidence is required because delays are one of the categories where 'customers don't need to provide anything'.

Free Cancellation: what it costs and what it returns

All read from abhibus.com/faq on 3 October 2026.

  • It is a paid opt-in, not a default: 'Free cancellation is an add-on service provided by Abhibus... It's an opt-in and optional program. Once opted-in the updated fare (with Free cancellation charge) will be shown before the payment.'
  • The window: 'Travellers who opt for Free Cancellation can cancel their booking any time before 6 hrs of journey start time, however for certain bus partners the FC benefit can be availed even if cancellation is done upto 1 hour in advance of bus start time and will be eligible for upto 100% refund of the base fare.'
  • What comes back: 'Cancellation within the applicable time window will be refunded 100% of ticket base fare. Cancellation after the time window will be refunded based on the bus partner cancellation policy.'
  • What does not come back: 'The ticket base fare is refunded back 100% however the Free cancellation charge will not be refunded.'
  • How it is paid: 'With AbhiBus Free Cancellation option, refunds will be automatically processed and credited to the original mode of payment.'
  • Where to check your window: the FAQ says the applicable duration is shown on the 'Passenger & Journey Review Page in the section of Free Cancellation opt-in'.

Note the two phrases doing the work: 'base fare', not total fare, and 'upto 100%'. The Free Cancellation charge itself is a sunk cost whether or not you cancel.

Where AbhiBus says it will not pay

  • If you miss the bus through your own error. 'AbhiBus provides upto 100% refund if the bus is missed due to either AbhiBus or its partner company's fault. However, if the bus is missed due to any other reasons not directly related to AbhiBus it does not provide any refund (for example: waiting at the wrong pickup point or arriving late at the pickup point is not considered for refund).'
  • If the service was not an Assured one. 'The Assured benefits are limited to the AbhiBus Assured Bus Partners only.'
  • If the partner offered a replacement service. The cancellation payout applies 'If the bus services have been canceled and no replacement has been offered by the partner'.
  • If you file late. Claims must be filed 'within 24 hours of journey end'.
  • On the Free Cancellation fee itself, which 'will not be refunded' in any scenario the FAQ describes.
  • Beyond the base fare. Free Cancellation returns 'ticket base fare', and the Assured cancellation payout is calculated on 'the amount of booking' with the top-up capped at 50%.
Everything on this page is stated as a maximum. 'Upto 150%', 'upto 100%', '10% to 100%' — AbhiBus uses the qualifier consistently and this page reproduces it rather than rounding it away. The quality-issue category in particular is explicitly discretionary: the amount 'depends on the arbitration between Abhibus and Bus partner'. We have not filed a claim and cannot tell you what any category pays in practice.

Five things to do on an Assured booking

  • Check for the ASSURED tag at the point of booking. Nothing on this page applies without it, and it cannot be added later.
  • Decide on Free Cancellation before paying. It is an opt-in add-on whose charge is shown before payment and never refunded, so it is worth it only if there is a real chance you will cancel.
  • Note the two different 6-hour rules. Free Cancellation's window is 6 hours (1 hour with some partners); AbhiAssured cancellation protection also uses 6 hours. After that, the bus partner's own policy decides.
  • Photograph a quality problem while you are on the bus. Quality claims are the category where AbhiBus states it may ask for 'photos, videos and audio recordings', and the payout range is 10% to 100%.
  • File within 24 hours of the journey ending. Through My Bookings, for every category. The delay and cancellation categories need no evidence at all, so filing is quick — there is no reason to leave it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AbhiBus really refund 150%?
Up to 150%, in two parts, and only in one specific situation. 'Customers are eligible for upto 150% refund in case of bus service cancellation. While 100% of the booking amount will be refunded back to the source or mode of payment, the remaining upto 50% amount will be refunded back through UPI ID of the customer or through Non-Promo Abhicash (100% redeemable on bus bookings) based on customer preference.' So the money part is 100% and the extra is paid to a UPI ID or as non-promotional AbhiCash, your choice. It applies when an Assured bus partner cancels the service and 'no replacement has been offered by the partner'. Every figure is stated as a maximum, not a guarantee. Read from abhibus.com/faq on 3 October 2026; we have not filed a claim.
What counts as a bus delay for an AbhiBus refund?
More than two hours, and you can still claim after travelling. 'In case of delay of the bus arrival beyond the buffer time of 2 hours after the scheduled arrival at the boarding point chosen in the booking, the customers will be compensated with a Full refund for the inconvenience caused.' Asked directly whether a refund is possible after boarding, the FAQ answers: 'YES. This is the advantage of the Assured Program. Even if you avail the service, if the bus arrives later than ASSURED time, you will get a upto 100% refund.' The two-hour buffer is the catch — a delay of an hour and a half, enough to miss a connection, is not covered. This benefit is 'exclusively for AbhiBus Assured Bus Partner services'.
How long do I have to claim an AbhiBus Assured refund?
Twenty-four hours from the end of the journey. 'To get benefits and resolution for grievances related to Assured booking, please file the claims within 24 hours of journey end.' Claims are filed through the My Bookings section. Evidence requirements differ by category: 'While customers don't need to provide anything for bus delays and cancellations, for other categories such as quality issues customers can be asked to submit additional documents and evidence such as photos, videos and audio recordings.' If your complaint is about cleanliness or crew behaviour, take photographs on the bus rather than trying to reconstruct the case afterwards.
Is AbhiBus Free Cancellation worth paying for?
It depends entirely on how likely you are to cancel, because the fee is never returned. 'The ticket base fare is refunded back 100% however the Free cancellation charge will not be refunded.' The cover itself is real: 'Travellers who opt for Free Cancellation can cancel their booking any time before 6 hrs of journey start time, however for certain bus partners the FC benefit can be availed even if cancellation is done upto 1 hour in advance of bus start time and will be eligible for upto 100% refund of the base fare.' Two details to note: it returns base fare rather than the total you paid, and cancelling after the window falls back to 'the bus partner cancellation policy'. The charge is shown before payment on the passenger details page, so you can price the decision at the time.
Will AbhiBus refund me if I miss the bus?
Only if the fault was AbhiBus's or the operator's. 'AbhiBus provides upto 100% refund if the bus is missed due to either AbhiBus or its partner company's fault. However, if the bus is missed due to any other reasons not directly related to AbhiBus it does not provide any refund (for example: waiting at the wrong pickup point or arriving late at the pickup point is not considered for refund).' The two examples AbhiBus gives are the two most common ways people miss intercity buses, so this exclusion is doing real work. Separately, the FAQ advises arriving 'a minimum of 15 minutes before departure' with a government-issued ID, and notes that boarding and dropping points can affect the fare you were quoted in the first place.

Every compensation figure is stated by AbhiBus as a maximum using the word 'upto' and must be read that way; the quality-complaint category is expressly discretionary, with the amount depending on 'arbitration between Abhibus and Bus partner'. Nothing here alleges that AbhiBus, Zenith Leisure Holidays Limited, or any bus operator on the platform has acted improperly, unfairly or unlawfully, or has breached the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, the Motor Vehicles Act or any other law, rule or regulation; offering capped, conditional and partner-limited compensation schemes is an ordinary and lawful commercial practice.
